Hi Sarah. I have just binge watched all your videos up to this point. I am in awe! I bought an ashford 20 inch rigid heddle loom earlier in the year, but I spin and knit, so I always half joked my retirement plan would be to learn to weave (it's still a few years off yet) but I am so inspired by what you have shown in your videos that I might have to have a go sooner.I've just bought your get weaving book to inspire me further. I love the idea that I could wear clothing from my hand woven fabrics, and I am amazed at all the different types of yarn you have used - I never imagined that my novelty ribbon yarns bought so many years ago when I was a new and novice knitter would be loom fodder. And I am now regretting getting rid of some bamboo and cotton yarns which I wasn't keen on knitting with, they would have made great weaving yarns! Thankyou for taking the time and effort to show us all your amazing projects.
Ha ha, they wouldn't allow me on it as I'm not really an amateur. I'd find the transformation challenge the most difficult as I spend hours planning my projects and there's no time for that!
It's Such a relief to hear someone of your caliber say that you get excited about starting a new project before having finished prior projects. I have Boxes of prior and unfinished projects. And that's only talking about the weaving aspect of my life 😂. Your fabrics shown here are gorgeous.
I've stopped beating myself up about it, finally. I just get up and do what I feel like doing, as long as orders go out on time and I answer peoples questions I'm content. And I do love a new project! Who cares if I haven't finished stuff- no-one!
Very inspiring! I especially liked your idea if finishing a jacket using fabric for the front edges and color facing. A great way to indulge in buying some of that beautiful quilt fabric, too! 😊
Oh such a lovely bit of joy that you've shared with us. I have been a quilter for a dozen years, but have taken up weaving in the last two years. I've started working on my rigid heddle with 8/2 cotton making a lovely alternating huck lace and have entirely convinced my heart that I must make a piece to wear. Have you make any clothing with fiber threads such as 8/2 cotton? I am seeing the 4 ply beauties that you have and I'm in love ❤
I've made lots if things using 4ply yarn- I use wraps per inch as my measurement as a lot of my yarns have lost their labels! I like mixing yarns as well so wpi gives me a good idea to see if they'll work together.
Thank you Sarah for showing us your works in progress and all the lovely fabrics. What is your normal length and width that you usually weave when you weave fabric?
The size of the fabric is completely determined by the pattern I'm making, enough for a top, or a coat for example. It's all cut in a single layer so the fabric is narrow but long. You can see all the fabric requirements on the back of the patterns, in my etsy shop. www.etsy.com/uk/shop/GetWeaving
@@getweaving8459 That would be great. If it helps, I am curious how you change your method for roving (as yet un spun fiber of whatever prep) vs. yarn.
Wow so much great stuff in this episode! I know I’ll watch it several times. Thank you for sharing - I always look forward to seeing what you’re making. You have plenty on your ‘I’m working on that’ list but if you ever have time I’d love to see how the jam jar dyeing process works - do you use it as a way to get the colour into the fibre and then heat set it afterwards?
Yes, that's how it works. The skeins can be wetted first then dipped and moved depending how much you want the colours to merge. Then cooked in the microwave! Quick and very effective 👌
Do you have any tips on making fabric covered buttons? I've made a lot of them with commercial fabric but never with fabric I made. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Karla, yes, I've certainly made them from handwoven fabric. If it's wool or similar you could try felting it a bit first. I put some fine, iron on woven interfacing on mine to stabilise it. Cut it large enough then trim If necessary. Tuck it on the top piece as tightly as you can- either in the metal or plastic teeth. Try to avoid too much bulk in the centre or the back won't clip on. Practice on some spare fabric 1st!

Ooh exciting times ahead! I'm putting your book in the post today, planning another video soon.
@@getweaving8459 thankyou so much, that's so amazingly prompt! I look forward to more inspiring videos.
Sarah, I have no doubt that when (not if) you get on the great British sewing bee, you will be one to contend with

Love that you are never bored. I can totally understand. The ideas never run out. ❤

Love the blues and greens. Where do you get your yarns?
Often from a sales table, someone having a clear out! The blue and green ramie was from Hilltop Cloud in the uk
Beautiful work

Inspiration!
Would you consider making a video about jam jar dyeing? It seems to give a stunning result, and I have a ton of jam jars.
@naomikatepp I've done it myself, great fun. Not on my list...yet...but I'll video it next time I do it.

@naomikatepp it depends what method I'm using- there are lots of alternatives! I'll add it to the list!

Could you make your patterns available as pdf? Postage to the US is very expensive.
Sorry, I'm afraid that format doesn't work for me.

I use plastic and metal ones
Where do you get the tape yarn from?
Mainly from ebay uk, search cotton ribbon or cotton tape yarn.
