I went to every comic shop in Michigan (part one)
I was in the Gospel/Christian music industry for years as a lyricist/songwriter, drummer, singer, etc.- look up "BEN*JAM." Then I was a literary author/novelist. Now, I'm writing/making comics - look up "B. L. Blankenship." They're all their own animals.
So I appreciate this video so much. I’ve been a lifelong comic fan but I haven’t read any X-Men comics (I know please don’t kill me) I’m a massive X-Men fan just never had the time for the comics. So I’m very much getting some comics for these heroes.
The Dad is a real Pedro Pascal homage.
I had so many of those Die Cast Marvel Characters as a kid! Really brings me back
“Rocketfellers” is not a good book title.
At 28 years old, with a decent sized graphic novel collection, this video made me immediately go to eBay and order the complete collection. I’m so excited to read this and share it with my 3 sons
You can build more of an understanding and context if you read the advance story in the Ghost Machine One Shot. I'm really excited to read this family story, and maybe that has to do with being a father. So it probably appeals more to older readers with children.
That might be the case - I did read the one shot, but it’s been so long that I forget what happened
Spiderman Noir is my new tattoo idea
Bought it and hyde st. Hyde caught me not this. Can't wait for more Hyde
Francis Manapul was at my shop today signing copies. I don’t collect single issues, but I’ll be picking this up in trade. His art alone is worth price of admission.
I’m jealous! I would love to meet Francis.
Not good. Due to result of reboot and reboot as well as on and on🙏😄
I appreciate your thoughts on this debut issue. You always provide thoughtful and thorough detailed feedback with no spoilers. I agree kids these days won't read... speaking of reading... make sure you finish Akira. I keep getting distracted by ONLY the first volume on the shelf. Keep grinding.
Yeah I didn’t like the writing either , I’m definitely not continuing this series. 😬
I saw this today at my LCS and flipped through it. It didn't grab me. I think the art is objectively good, but it doesn't appeal to my personal taste. And I agree, the story looks a little boring. There's just so much out there that I'm more interested in.
Hey kurt love and really enjoy your videos but i would love some mature comic recommendations if you could bro keep up the good work bro and thanks.
The Deviant, Something is Killing the Children, Where Monsters Lie Cull de Sac & Beneath the Trees where Nobody Sees. Those are the ones I personally would recommend. My two cents 😉
I second these suggestions!
I was excited to read this book because of Peter Tomasi. Tomasi is my favorite writer and I love his DC stuff specially his Nightwing run. Overall, I thought the issue was just good but not as amazing like the other Ghost Machine books.
Are you now a new member of the TMNT?
The other day - i found a bunch of 90’s star trek comics! (Singles.)
4:16 cool!
Have you read “atari force”? I have a few issues of it. Its quite a time capsule.
Jupiters legacy is cool .
Love seeing stuff like this Hope the poison ivy is healing …
This Just in Kurt's statement Angers Slice Bread lovers every where His webshow's future in Jeopardy guess where that joke came from
Just finished issue 5. It really is a gem when reread. Not infidel level but solid
I liked it.. I'll be more patient for the upcoming issues.. What no Wonder Woman??
I with you bro, I thought Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman were excellent, but I didn't like this one. The way the writer presented the new world to us was just so ham-fisted.
The cover is awesome! The story - I'd have to agree with you. I read it before watching your review and I wasn't thrilled by it. I'll also give it a few more issues before I axe it.
great video!
Hard disagree, this was like Green Lantern Earth One combined with Superman Birthright for me - both of which I love. I’d recommend Superman Secret Identity for your alternative Superman story fix, it’s very touching. Made me tear up and the art is fantastic
Hey I found uuuuuu😂😂
I totally understand your opinions, but when it comes to it being too simple specifically you’re “clear good guy clear bad guy” comment, I agree that it’s true but I think it’s okay in my book especially for an issue #1. I’m honestly kinda tired of super complex shades of grey story telling, but that’s just me. Let’s dig deeper first into this new universe before we make it more “complex”
So you can write better than Jason Aaron is what you;re saying? Damn,Jim Lee should hire you!!!!! You;re sooooo smart!
Chillax, it's just his own personal take on the story 💀
Maybe Lana Lang will be his love interest.
Book was fire soy boy
TY FOR THE HEADS UP MY FRIEND, LIKED AND SUBBED
It felt like a shadow of the excellent Superman Birthright series (even though it's just starting, so who knows!)
I saw this as a return to the Golden Age of Superman. A two fisted populist battling against oppressive power structures. One of my favorite Golden Age stories is there's two armies at war. Superman kidnaps the army leaders, throws them in a pit and forces them to fisticuff to the death for victory. Neither leader is willing to do that so they call a truce. I could see this Superman doing that
Because of reboot on and on.
Disapointing cause absolute batman is really cool
Read it it’s good
It seems like DC is trying to get a "new" Superman in people's brains as Superman gets closer to public domain.
Peak of Superman Series are in the 80s and early the90s (especially aftermath he is death). Any way this is in my perspective.
Spot on. This was Meh at best. I didn't think it was terrible, but it wasn't anything new...just slightly different. The Lois Lane panel had me groaning out loud - what an unnecessary splash page. Great review
So, I am with you on Aaron's writing outside this issue. Outside God of Thunder, I haven't liked anything he has written, including this larger Thor run. His Avengers run is abysmal. But I really liked Absolute Superman, largely because both Brazil and Krypton seem to be the world I grew up in and is still real. Absolute Batman, on the other hand, was the biggest disappointment for me. It feels like White Knight mixed with Stan Lee's Batman/Wayne Williams. None of them are bad issues, tho.
I didn't make it to my LCS yesterday, but this is on my wish list. Thanks for the review.
Not hearing good things
It’s good
"The really good stuff", for me, needs New 52 Action Comics (also by Morrison)
thats right dude,"Absolute" is trend,sold out,sell out
Nahhh you’re a hater this was great
exactly
Fr
I'm still going to give it a try, but for future reference, having a negative opinion of something doesn't mean someone is being a "hater". It just means they didn't like it, especially if they can explain their reasons in detail.
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought it was good but not amazing like absolute batman or wonder woman
Lazarus Corps seems to be Braniac’s company. Man, I really liked this first issue. The cape (which we haven’t seen yet) is made of dust from his dead planet.
Dude thank you for putting me on Skin Police I'm a huge blade runner cyberpunk type scifi fan and this book is just the fix I needed
Once Upon a Time at the End of the World lost me when it went down this weird rabbit hole with the whole free love sex commune thingamajig. Maybe the story got better in the 3rd arc, but it lost me in the 2nd arc, so I stopped reading it.
The third arc had dragons art, which was a plus, but the dialogue was so unnecessarily full of language that it was just hard to get through
Yeah I thought it was terrible as well.
