Mystisue raised Nightcrawler from birth in more than one reality like in Age of Apocalypse and a 616 What-if, Children in the attic.
In both of these, Nightcrawler isn't abandoned, isn't part of the X-Men and the only reason he dies is either on a mission or directly because of Mystique and Destiny.
Nightcrawler also dies in DoFP (written by Claremont may I add), a timeline kickstarted by Mystique and Destiny, and already died once in 616 with Mystique being surprised by both his death and return to life in 2014.
616!Mystique also met AoA! Nightcrawler and knows she raised him from birth in that reality as his biological single mom after picking his father, that father being Azazel.
Azazel who in AoA hasn't pulled a single takeover and like in 616 would need Nightcrawler to exist to even try any to begin with.
Remove Nightcrawler and there's no option for Azazel to try a takeover.
11:00 Except Nightcrawler has never forgiven Mystique in any of the previous versions of his origins.
Except he never forgive her in the future where TJ was born.
Except he didn't even forgive Mystique when she made the reveal to him in Claremont's 2nd X-Men run.
Because forgiveness is a case by case situation and in Nightcrawler's, he legitimately has no reasons to forgive either of Mystique and Destiny...
Because the new version of his origins turned them into unforgivable people. Because on top of their actions you have all the plotholes and inconsistencies I explained previously which makes their "desire to protect him by abandoning him" a joke.
11:11 Mystique and Destiny didn't save his life by doing this and no this wasn't the only way they could have done this.
You have half a dozen worlds where Nightcrawler dies before he even met them which all breached from 616 and have him with the same backstory with the Szardos and circus.
Not even the argument of "you needed to be part of the X-Men so Azazel doesn't kill you" works because Nightcrawler was part of X-Calibur in AoA (he dies with Mystique by someone else's hand there) and has spent more time as part of Excalibur in 616 than he did with the X-Men.
Terrible retcon with terrible followups.
