Francis Manapul was at my shop today signing copies. I don’t collect single issues, but I’ll be picking this up in trade. His art alone is worth price of admission.
I was excited to read this book because of Peter Tomasi. Tomasi is my favorite writer and I love his DC stuff specially his Nightwing run. Overall, I thought the issue was just good but not as amazing like the other Ghost Machine books.
You can build more of an understanding and context if you read the advance story in the Ghost Machine One Shot. I'm really excited to read this family story, and maybe that has to do with being a father. So it probably appeals more to older readers with children.
I appreciate your thoughts on this debut issue. You always provide thoughtful and thorough detailed feedback with no spoilers. I agree kids these days won't read... speaking of reading... make sure you finish Akira. I keep getting distracted by ONLY the first volume on the shelf. Keep grinding.
The Deviant, Something is Killing the Children, Where Monsters Lie Cull de Sac & Beneath the Trees where Nobody Sees. Those are the ones I personally would recommend. My two cents 😉
I saw this today at my LCS and flipped through it. It didn't grab me. I think the art is objectively good, but it doesn't appeal to my personal taste. And I agree, the story looks a little boring. There's just so much out there that I'm more interested in.
The Dad is a real Pedro Pascal homage.

I’m jealous! I would love to meet Francis.

That might be the case - I did read the one shot, but it’s been so long that I forget what happened

“Rocketfellers” is not a good book title.
