Thanks for the love from State of Comics owner! Appreciate this video. It’s wonderful to see what everyone is doing around the state and even more so to see there are so many great shops still thriving! Also great to have insight on how my team and I can improve my shop! Thanks again!
Growing up I moved a lot all over Michigan. It’s a HUGE wave of nostalgia seeing so many of these shops again. Thank you for doing this. So many good memories.
Mike's comics used to have an insane amount of back issues. I used to go there a lot as a kid and picked up many comics through out my time growing up. It's really cool to see the small shop I loved, get some love. I don't live around there anymore so I don't go there as often but I'm glad to see it's standing, and in a new spot it looks like! Thank you for making these videos, cheers!
I wish you could have experienced it, but there was a place called Readers in Westland on Warren. I'm 48 and my older cousin used to take me there and it was mind-bending. I was feverishly trying to collect all of the Godzilla Marvel comics at that time. Such great times in the early 80s.
Im one of the part-time guys at 9 Planets. Thank you for the review! We were approving things every day, and you're always welcome to come back in. Were ever changing!
Hey thanks man! That was one of the shops where I wished I had more specific footage to share, I think I was only able to portray part of the awesomeness. Keep up the good work!
@AlexGamingConsole your always welcome to stop in! Open 7 days a week 12-6 Sunday, Monday and 11-7 the rest of the week we will be closed August 16th and 17th but if you buy anything mention this and we will give you 9% off your purchase
Mike's Comics in New Baltimore has been my store for over 20 years! So happy you gave him such a great review! He got a little shafted when Comic City moved in right down the road. Both are great shops, but Mike's always got my business!
My dad used to run Classic Comics & Movies in Livonia back in the 90s and early 00s. He was the Comic Book Guy to many people, even interviewed by the Free Press when comic-related news would make regular headlines (death of Superman, etc.). It's closed now, but growing up around all of this has made me very happy to see that brick & mortar comic shops are still alive.
I used to go to that shop all the time as a kid. I drive by the storefront where the shop used to be pretty regularly and get a deep pang of nostalgia every time. It's one of my key childhood memories.
Time Travelers opened in 1987. The same month and year I was born. In my hometown. Not only does it kook the same as it did the first day I went in 1992, it's the same vibe. Its the best comic shop ive ever been to, and i ooay all ny tcgs there for locals even though I live an hour away now.
Green Brain was my shop before I moved. The owners Dan and Katie are great people and do a lot to promote comics. They have a great Free Comic Day event.
Excellent video! Comix Corner is my home shop, but I’ve been to many of the others in Metro Detroit. State of Comics in Plymouth is one of my favorites and is always worth the trip!
When i was deepest in my comic buying days I went to Green Brain every single week because i worked nearby, and they are INCREDIBLE. So friendly and genuinely interested in helping you navigate the store.
Comix Corner Fraser was the first comic shop I ever went to as a kid. These days my local shop is the Detroit Vault of Midnight. While their back issue selection leaves a lot to be desired, they're by far the friendliest shop I've ever been to. And their small press section is the star of the show. I think Grand Rapids has the best small press section, but it warms my heart when any shop has one in general. For me the most important thing in a shop is back issues and small press, that's what makes every shop unique to me.
I'm really glad that you warmed up to the Ann Arbor/Detroit locations of VoM. Detroit's has been my go-to "Oh, you're new to comics? I have just the place" location for friends and family and they've always been insanely accommodating to me in all my years going there. Also dang, it's surreal seeing someone just casually talking about Green Brain and Warp 9 on UA-cam like this ha. Those are my, like...childhood shops, glad to see you enjoyed them. Killer video, man.
Mike's comics is great. Correction on the video, he is located in New Baltimore. I like how you emphasized stores leaning into TCG's because that store does both well. I've been in there doing deals on cards, and someone would walk in picking up comics. Great mix and solid environment.
I’ve been to many of the shops around metro Detroit and I found Big Ben’s in Allen Park to be by far the best! They have the best selection of high end back issues. Definitely my favorite!
I grew up in Clawson. Warp 9 was my first comic store and is still my favorite. It may be small, but it has a lot of cool stuff in there. The original owner was pretty cool. I don't go in there as much anymore but the new owner and staff are awesome. Back in high school, my mom would give me lunch money on Sunday. I'd save it for Wednesdays. My high school was just across the street from Warp 9. So I would go there during my lunch and use my lunch money to buy comics. It's definitely a staple in the 2 square miles of Clawson.
oh i'm so glad i got this video recommended to me! i found so many new stores to go to, and i'm glad to see mike's comics here! i used to play dnd there and mike introduced me to so many new titles :)
Damn it, now I’ve gotta go back to vault of midnight 😭. I’m moving away for the first time at the end of this month, and I’m really gonna miss VoM- it was my first comic store, and a lot of my current obsessions started there. Thank you for reminding me
I started at comix corner (Fraser) as a comic collector as a kid with my dad. They used to have a buy by the pound discount section that was amazing. I got almost whole series that way.
I am very surprised that you did not cover Guild of Blades in Clawson, maybe it was for one of the last reasons listed but that would be surprising to me. I'm not the biggest comic book nerd so maybe they don't qualify for one of the reasons given to determine if they are in deed a comic shop but again I would be very surprised to find that out. They have a very large selection of comics, new and old, statues, super hero action figures, Funco pops, manga, rpgs, miniatures, play areas, community boards, email groups, etc. Hope they get covered in your next video of MI shops.
As a Michigander just starting to dip my toes into the hobby, these videos are a great resource. Thank you for putting in all the effort to put them together ✌️
It's really interesting seeing all the various comic shops I frequent (or used to frequent depending on where I lived) in a video, including some of what I figured were small rinky-dink shops. I'm pretty sure Mike's is in New Baltimore. Lived there for two years and that was my go-to. I even googled Mike's in St. Clair Shores, and yeah... Time Travelers was my childhood comic shop. Haven't been in a while since I moved, but it's never left my mind. Liberty Comics was my main shop for a while since I used to work in Roseville. I did get scorned a couple times when I was "a little" late in picking up a new issue of something only for them to be sold out. But they were great for back issues. And Big Ben's is where I would go whenever I slept over at my girlfriend's house downriver. Apparently, my girlfriend's cousin works there, but that has never done me any good. Currently, she and I don't live down there but she still has family in that area. It's still on the radar anytime we go downriver.
Amazing video. A lot of really great looking shops that often feel like they reflect the areas they’re in; shaped by the community. and damn are they big out in Ypsi and Ann Arbor. My local shop is A to Z and I was curious how it’d stack up against some of the flashier stores I haven’t been to. Exciting that it’s up there with best as far as having whatever you need. I’m looking forward to checking some of these out! Green Brain is new to me and nearby, and the Comix Corners definitely look worth the drive as someone who mainly does nostalgia buying - filling out series I either loved or wanted to have in the 90s. Always excited to pull up old Valiant comics or weird horror themed stuff I haven’t seen before in the discount and older back issue bins.
They became my local go to for comics (though I'm somewhat closer to Comix Corner in Fraser), but yes it's higher priority is board games/role playing games.
The owner is not a pleasant person. All the wall issues are damaged from UV expose. They do have a large and organized back issue section. Many other shops that I’d rather patronize than GOB.
I got PTSD after going to Time Travelers. They had boxes stacked upon boxes so high that I vowed to never go there again. Then I forgot about it and accidentally walked back in it. It was much more organized but the PTSD kicked in and I walked out. Big Bens is perhaps my favorite shop.
I've got a soft spot in my heart for A to Z. My dad knew the owner and love collecting baseball cards, so he'd take me for an hour or two while he searched for stuff, and I'd browse the comics. The owner always made me repeat "Readers make leaders" whenever I went up to the register. I'm not too into the comic scene anymore, but I go into VoM Ann Arbor and Fun 4 All all the time for gaming and graphic novel stuff. I like Vault of Midnight, just with they had more of a Magic scene or a gaming area. State of Comics really impressed me when I discovered it. Downtown Plymouth was my high school hangout spot, and my friends and I would have never left that place if it existed then. Really cool spot with something for everyone.
22:28 Technically they've only been there for about a year, but they were in the same strip mall before that, closer to the Outback Steakhouse. It's my go to local shop.
I cant believe comics archives has been closed since 2011 and got mentioned twice in the comments. Miss my peeps from there. ❤ great video! This is very good content.
love seeing my main comic book stores, especially my hometown one Warp Nine! i can always count on them to have issues im looking for, even if its been weeks. Nicest staff ever too!
Prime Time Comics and Card is actually in downtown Lake Orion, which is about 20ish minutes south of Lapeer. Also it's definitely more of a card store over comics, but still has a decent comic selection. I think a 14/30 is reasonable.
As someone who's been driving around Michigan trying to complete runs of DC Comics Presents, Marvel Team Up and Brave and the Bold (50+) this series has been incredibly useful.
Prime Time is in Lake Orion, 20 miles south of Lapeer where you said it was located. But Mike didn't let you film inside so I guess he gets what he deserves 😅
Great video! It’s too bad Chris didn’t want the shop to be filmed! Comics n More is a cool shop. But, glad to see Green Brain got a deserving score! Amazing shop and owners. They do a ton for the local community and comic community at large!
Liberty has been my shop since it started as Fantasy in Comics on Frazho and Groesbeck, then it was Bob's Comics 2 and finally when Gail bought it from Bob and moved to Gratiot, it became Liberty. Love that place, it feels like home.
Great video! Hilarious that 2/3 of my personal LCSs wouldn’t let you film, Comics N’ More (Chris is great and was always finding vintage toys/chatchkis for my collection - also I had a pull box there since I was 7) and Prime Time (it was the closest shop when I lived in the Oxford/Orion area so I could get my monthly fix) but Comix Corner in Fraser has impeccable service. Dan is always great to talk to and is pretty knowledgeable on what is going on currently in comics. There’s a rad history there too because he’s a second generation owner as he took over for his dad. Also has a strong memory when it comes to variants if that’s your thing. Also love Time Travelers (that was always a regular haunt once I started collecting) and so many more that you listed and sadly, the ones that are no longer with us like Dave’s Comics and Detroit Comics. Definitely appreciate your attention to detail and I’ll definitely take you up on some of your recommendations! Can’t wait to see what the comic shops in Georgia are like!
I live in Texas, but I still really enjoyed seeing all the interesting comic shops. Excellent job on the video! If I were you, I'd be soooo broke now, lol!
Oh I am, lol I was thinking about doing Texas later this year, but there’s a surprisingly high number of shops - I would probably need more than a week to cover it all
I wouldn't consider them a comic shop, they are more of a gaming store that also has comics. They are also expensive compared to other stores in the area.
Yo, it's nice to see my LCS Comics & More in Madison Heights got visited Chris is a cool guy been a customer for over 20 years. Thanks for great review 😎👍
My opinion lol Liberty Comics deserves a 5 for organization. Back issues are organized alphabetically and numerically with dividers that have the comic books logo on it. Maybe I’m one-sided because I have OCD lol but it’s nice to be able to go in and immediately find what I’m looking for without any hassle.
You should add in rating customer service pets in store/pet friendly I love your videos I’m a newbie to your channel but I watched one and this video in Michigan I live in alpena mi I agree with you with bobbys bullpen i go there all the time my bro know the owner personally want more of these your taste in comics toys geeky stuff is fantastic I give 10 for 10 stars as a reviewer we need more michaganders like you to review mi no one ever talkes about mi EVER mi is so so underrated as a state just saying a huge thank you soo much for these 2 videos I subscribed liked and a thumbs up for these 2 first time watching your videos top man all thumbs up for your channel already great job
You missed a shop when you were at A to Z. It’s so stupid, so I don’t blame you for missing it, but 2 miles down Ford rd, there’s an Ace Hardware. The back half of the store is a comic book shop, as advertised on the sign. I have no idea why this is a thing, but I bought three issues of Task Force Z a couple years ago there.
They sell comics there? The Nankin Hardware one? I know it’s also a hobby shop but I thought that just meant like model trains and gunpla and stuff, I’ve never gone in to investigate I guess.
I feel like 24 is a bit low for the first Big Ben's they are by far the best comic book store in the state I'll even throw in Toledo, Ohio too since I have ventured down there too and no store compares!
Thanks for the spot and the kind words! We enjoyed your visit, stop by anytime.
I live in Dearborn, got my Sea of Thieves comics from you.
Thanks for the love from State of Comics owner! Appreciate this video. It’s wonderful to see what everyone is doing around the state and even more so to see there are so many great shops still thriving! Also great to have insight on how my team and I can improve my shop! Thanks again!
Thanks, I love your work! SOC is clearly in pursuit of excellence, I hope business is booming 🤟
Growing up I moved a lot all over Michigan. It’s a HUGE wave of nostalgia seeing so many of these shops again. Thank you for doing this. So many good memories.
The most satisfying reaction 👌 glad you enjoyed it!

Mike's comics is in New Baltimore not St. Clair shores just sharing as that was my local store for years he has been there forever nice guy
I love Green Brain soo much. The owners are awesome.
Glad to see Mike's Comics get some praise. You're right--he's as genuine as they come. Great job, Mikey!!
I wish you could have experienced it, but there was a place called Readers in Westland on Warren. I'm 48 and my older cousin used to take me there and it was mind-bending. I was feverishly trying to collect all of the Godzilla Marvel comics at that time. Such great times in the early 80s.

Ive lived down the street awhile but never been. Always go to big bens

Green Brain Comics is fabulous, all shops should be this nice
as someone who grew up in jackson and has lived in ypsi long enough to be considered a townie i really love your reviews of my favorite shops

Big Ben’s is my shit bruh. So is green brain I love both
When i was deepest in my comic buying days I went to Green Brain every single week because i worked nearby, and they are INCREDIBLE. So friendly and genuinely interested in helping you navigate the store.
I used to live in Dearborn and Greenbrain was my go to especially after the comic archive shut down :(. They also host a ton of events.

Great vid bro!! Cant agree more on Big Bens Comic Oasis!! Been going there for years!! And shout out to Allen who runs the 2nd store!!
Allen was awesome!

This was a really good video! Some may underestimate the amount of time and work that was involved.
Any chance to tour comic stores in the U.P.?
Comix corner in fraser was my childhood store! Loved them when I lived there!
Another great part of the series. Leaving a comment hope it helps grow the channel!

Stadium is better for cards I think than comics. I love this dude, I'm an Ann Arbor/Ypsi kid my whole life. Brought me joy
Blast of nostalgia. I worked at Time Traveler’s throughout high school. Just recently returned to Michigan.
oh i'm so glad i got this video recommended to me! i found so many new stores to go to, and i'm glad to see mike's comics here! i used to play dnd there and mike introduced me to so many new titles :)

Just watched part one yesterday and was looking for part two - so jazzed to see it pop up this morning - great videos dude 👍
Good timing! Thank you much 🤟
you are my hero dude, will reference these videos for years
As a Michigander just starting to dip my toes into the hobby, these videos are a great resource. Thank you for putting in all the effort to put them together ✌️
I've been going to Big Ben's for years, but your video pointed a new one, and a few others I need to go back and visit. Good content.
Stores I wish you got to see that are sadly long gone, Comics Kingdom and Comics Archives. Two of the earliest and legendary stores in Detroit

Looking forward to seeing some familiar spots and new shops to check out. Stadium comics and cards are awesome!
Amazing video. A lot of really great looking shops that often feel like they reflect the areas they’re in; shaped by the community. and damn are they big out in Ypsi and Ann Arbor.

Great video! I think you missed GOB Retail and its right down the street from warp 9 comics in clawson!
Oh man, you’re right! They never showed up in any of my searches. I’ll reach out, thanks for letting me know!
GOB Retail for sure needs a review. i do most of my board game buys there. there comic section looks good to. its right down the street from Warp.
They became my local go to for comics (though I'm somewhat closer to Comix Corner in Fraser), but yes it's higher priority is board games/role playing games.
GOB is definitely more of a game store. They have comics, but it's no where near their focus.

That’s amazing, I’m gonna start saying “readers make leaders” now. We may have crossed paths at Fun 4 All!
Nice video dude. I’m not even into comics, and I still really enjoyed following your adventure
IIRC, there is another just a bit South of Flat Rock in Monroe. Can't recall the name but I think it's in their old mall.
Just wanna say stadium was also my first shop I still go there and have a pull list cool to see u go there
Love that A to Z had allthe one piece volumes when I went there
Thus is crazy! Bro is really at my local comic book shops
22:28 Technically they've only been there for about a year, but they were in the same strip mall before that, closer to the Outback Steakhouse. It's my go to local shop.
Man! This was awesome!! Thank you so much for your time and effort putting this together! Looking forward to part 3!!
Thank you so much!
I cant believe comics archives has been closed since 2011 and got mentioned twice in the comments. Miss my peeps from there. ❤ great video! This is very good content.

Employee from Fun 4 All thanks for all the support! Loved the video!
Cosmics comics is the main one near me, and its super cool that you reviewed them! I hope your channel only expands from here
Thanks so much! Expansion is my middle name
Big bens representation! Literally been going there since i was a kid, and so did my father lol
Love it!
Mikes Comics is definitely in New Baltimore, not St Clair Shores. Great shop though, they've been open for over 20 years.
Damn I didn’t know about Galaxies Most Wanted and I live right around the corner 😂. Great video!!!
You’re from Michigan: Subscribed!!!
Awesome
Great video btw! I found more stores thanks to this!
Thanks for stopping at STADUIM first they were my first shop
As someone who's been driving around Michigan trying to complete runs of DC Comics Presents, Marvel Team Up and Brave and the Bold (50+) this series has been incredibly useful.
Warp 9 was my first comic book store ever (this was 20 years ago). Glad to see they're still doing well!
Another great video, thanks. From the south side of the Detroit River.
That's an interesting way to say you're from downriver 😂
@@BriskQuick No. Windsor
First two are my childhood spots man thank you algorithm
I live in Davison, Mi. This is such an epic concept. Thanks so much for documenting your journey.
Oh it’s my pleasure, believe me
“Lapeer” dawg you’re literally in down town lake Orion RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE LAKE ORION
Prime Time is in Lake Orion, 20 miles south of Lapeer where you said it was located.
But Mike didn't let you film inside so I guess he gets what he deserves 😅
he would have had to actually open the store for that to happen.
Great video! It’s too bad Chris didn’t want the shop to be filmed! Comics n More is a cool shop. But, glad to see Green Brain got a deserving score! Amazing shop and owners. They do a ton for the local community and comic community at large!
I’m a local for comics and more, I love that spot n Chris the owner is awesome
Liberty comics in roseville is my shop i go to and when they are out of stuff i hit up comix corner in fraser
Liberty has been my shop since it started as Fantasy in Comics on Frazho and Groesbeck, then it was Bob's Comics 2 and finally when Gail bought it from Bob and moved to Gratiot, it became Liberty. Love that place, it feels like home.
Mike’s Comics & Games is in New Baltimore, not St Clair Shores
How did you not review GOB in clawson!
Comics & More didn't let you film?! I like those dudes. I'm gonna have to give them the business tomorrow.
Mikes comics is great but it’s located in New Baltimore, not St. Clair Shores.
Dan Sr. was a hell of a nice guy. I was in Comix Corner every week religiously through much of the 80's. He was always very kind. RIP.
Lmao I have never been to any of the stores in the first episode (met a few owners in novi at comic con) but this episode seemed just for me haha
I live in Texas, but I still really enjoyed seeing all the interesting comic shops. Excellent job on the video! If I were you, I'd be soooo broke now, lol!
Oh I am, lol
I was thinking about doing Texas later this year, but there’s a surprisingly high number of shops - I would probably need more than a week to cover it all
Great video… I was going to say You should check out back to the past in Wixom probably been around for 20 years or more.
Prime time is in lake Orion. We do have a shop in lapeer called comic explosion
Incredible video. I used to play Yugioh at Fun 4 All as a kid and one time an old guy gave me some cards for free that made my deck twice as good.
Some guy gave me like 3 cubic feet of heroclix for free at fun 4 all a few years ago. Love that place
hey!! I go to Time Travelers all the time!!
This is a cool series, I appreciate your attention to details. Time Travelers is one of my favs too. Ofc Lapeer shop was the only dud lmfao.
Attention to detail? Like placing several stores in the wrong city? That attention to detail? lol
I think you missed GOB retail in clawson, an excellent shop just down the street from warp 9
I wouldn't consider them a comic shop, they are more of a gaming store that also has comics. They are also expensive compared to other stores in the area.
A lot of y’all have mentioned this shop - they do sell new issues each week, right?
Yo, it's nice to see my LCS Comics & More in Madison Heights got visited Chris is a cool guy been a customer for over 20 years. Thanks for great review 😎👍
Mike’s comics is in New Baltimore NOT Saint Clair Shores.
Please include your haul from the stores in the last part of the series!
I really like this idea this needs more views for sure.
Big Ben's in Allen Park is tops 🍻
My opinion lol Liberty Comics deserves a 5 for organization. Back issues are organized alphabetically and numerically with dividers that have the comic books logo on it. Maybe I’m one-sided because I have OCD lol but it’s nice to be able to go in and immediately find what I’m looking for without any hassle.
Another place you can hunt for comics at is Town Peddler in Livonia. It is hit or miss but it’s an option
Would you consider this knife in the thin "lazer" segment of gyutos?
Come back to see us at Cosmic comics. I'm the manager there rn and I got it really nice 👌🏾

This scoring rubric was handed down to me from the heavens like the Ten Commandments were to Moses, they are infallible and speak the truth! Lol
Giving a shoutout to a GREAT book/comic store in the Keewanaw, Black Ice Comics.
Great video!
