Before all that though we had events from Who's Number One? and UFC Fight Pass Invitational featuring the likes of Kaynan Duarte, Felipe Pena and Mikey Musumeci. Sick!
Appreciate it guys 🫶
Congrats on a great year! Looking forward to watching you in 2025
Gabe Sousa vs Josh Cisneros as an honorable mention maybe
Craig Jones biggest piece on him too
Will your opponent at CJI 2 be able to compete in this department?
Should this be a category for next years awards??
Biggest piece and forehead.
Ryan Aitken and pgf should both be honorary mentions
c jones greatest every year
Best grappler? Best promoter? Best everything???
Great technique!
Thanks
I’m not a great wrestler but as a competitive brown belt who’s done a couple of the adcc opens . The no point period emphasizes heavy collars to fatigue the opponent vs burning energy for pointless scores… it’s either be chill n only go for big openings or Going full marcelo Garcia straight for the submission to save energy I think In bigger main adcc matches like finals guys are extremely careful with risking shots ( or any technique) due to positional risk and energy. Defensive wrestling to get the back is a huge winner in adcc matches ( at one point it was more successful then offensive wrestling) I take pride In my turtle defence n reversals but it’s extremely energy consuming to escape from points and while escaping you’ll usually get caught in another defensive cycle ( like gramby rolling into a stack or leg drag ) which may cause repeated turtleing n escaping. You could also just slip up at any moment, even if your extremely experienced your walking a tight rope. A missed micro movement n your loosing big points + in bad position or just getting submitted while avoiding the final hook
You should do this in an actual fight you won't get graped
What’s graped? Is that how they make wine?
@JiuJitsuOracle-lz9yf graped is when there's a banana entering a part of your body...but it's not the mouth...well in some cases yes but that's another strory which btw is very disturbing
@Clesmgram781 The things you learn online... Although not sure why it's graped when a banana is involved.
This would fs work in a street fight😃
Calum’s a street fighting legend, like a cross between Ryu and Zangief
@@JiuJitsuOracle-lz9yfdoes he do any other martial art?
He did, but he’s like a mystical, wise, old grappler. He keeps his powers hidden until he needs them.
Submission of the year- fabricio andrey flying armbar at Brazil trials. Never seen a better flying armbar. On lipe machado none the less
It’s definitely in consideration.
Damn That Barnet is atrocious
I’m not taking any haircut, style or fashion advice from any jiu jitsu players. Get to over 40 with a strong hairline and you can do what you want. Any haircut is great. Having hair is great.
You really should take advice that hairline is as far back as your crown brave the shave shaggy it’s time.. your old enough for it to not look weird
@@MurDrumHD Keep the comments coming. It helps with the algorithm. Let's see how you're doing at this age - enjoy the nervy wait.
@ just say thank you for the comments then, no need to get all triggered because someone mentioned you look like the main character of a sting video
@@MurDrumHD My response kept the comments coming. It worked perfectly.
Dorian Olivarez would be a great match up for Mikey !
Good shout. It would be interesting to see if Dorian’s style of passing could keep him away from Mikey’s leg entanglements. And on the flip side, if Mikey could get a hold of him.
So happy, team tournament in BJJ is the best entertainment
You’ll be loving the next year then, with AIGA, Polaris and CJI doing them. 2025 is the year of the teams.
Any thoughts on who Craig's supposedly effeminate opponent might be? My first thought was Mikey.
Craig vs Mikey could be fun. Although there's a big weight difference, especially as Mikey is committed to competing at lighter weights even for him. Also, I'm not sure about the exclusivity of Mikey's FPI contract and whether he can compete for other promotions. But the match and the build-up could be entertaining. I wonder if Craig will look outside of grappling for an opponent, maybe a big name from MMA, or a former fighter. - Ross
@@JiuJitsuOracle-lz9yf That's a good point. Maybe Brian Ortega given their run in on TUF in the lead up to the Volk fight.
I am so excited for this team style format! Would be really cool to see that in the pit! And for super fights I would like to see Ffion back for one.
It'll be a great spectacle with the teams around the pit (or alley as they say in CJI). I think there should definitely be some women's matches on the event and Ffion as P4P #1 should be in one for sure. - Ross
Big fan of your podcast, would be cool to see you guys cover scottish grapplers perhaps adcc scotland in january.
Cheers. We’ve got another chat with Shay coming soon. We’d love to get Big Mark back on. We’ve spoken about those two guys and the likes of Cammy Donnelly who compete internationally. As for shows in Scotland, Stoom has done a good job covering them. - Ross
All I’m saying is I’m the best grappler in every empty room I walk into
You lads deserve more subscribers. Would love to see you doing some interviews too.
Thanks. Who would you like us to speak to? I’m up for trying to get more interviews if people want them. - Ross
@@JiuJitsuOracle-lz9yf Eoghan O'Flan would be a good one. In your neck of the woods and always brings the banter. Levi Jones-Leary would also be interesting heading into CJI 2.
@@Shaka_Garami Thanks for the suggestions.
Interviews would be great. Suggestions: Levi, Espen, Shay, Tarik. And please include technique and match breakdowns if you can.
@@Flyingworm An interview with Shay looking at where the grappling game is and where it is heading should be recorded soon. As for the other guys, good shouts. Thanks for the suggestions.
lucas valente is super underrated... i love his gi jiu jitsu he has some nasty footlock variations ive never seen before ( ive been in n out of bjj since 2005 and follow it pretty hard) and now he's getting more golds no gi
He’s definitely firmly on my radar now. Hopefully he has a muscle sweep tutorial somewhere! Love seeing attacks from closed guard. - Ross
Glad the voice was explained. Wasn’t sure if you were trialling a new husky voice for the pod!
Maybe I’m stuck with it…
It will be a new format
We know you've all your own channels but if you ever fancy a chat with us about CJI, please let us know. We'd love to talk to you. Cheers.
The return of the GOAT to competition is great for Jiu Jitsu as a whole, personally I am very excited to see him face off against imanari. I also hope that Craig Jones has a matchup lined up for him on the CJI 2 card as it will create even more hype for the event.
Yes - Marcelo on CJI 2 would be great. Hopefully his One contract isn't exclusive. - Ross
Great discussion as always -- very much appreciated. Three quick points (mainly to generate some activity, which allegedly pleases the algorithms): 1) More NFL analogies! (e.g., "three yards and a cloud of dust", razzle dazzle trick plays, hail marys, tush push, etc.). 2) I'm just an old guy who likes the gi, but I did think that BJJ Stars had some exciting matches (more so, in my humble opinion, than WNO and FPI). 3) Regarding the Downey question at the end: I suppose Pixley was not a Division I wrestler, but he does, I think, compete in the Gi. Thanks again for the great podcast!
Thanks for the comment. I (Ross) will gladly use more football analogies. I’m a big fan of college ball and the NFL. Calum’s all about the NBA. But he’s young and there’s time to convert him. I had a busy weekend (it was championship Saturday after all…) so I’m yet to see BJJ Stars but it’s on the to watch list.
Good to see guys back 🎉🎉
Thank you!
Sebastian Attard is one to look out for on the WNO undercard for sure!
Thanks for the heads up. We'll keep a look out for him. - Ross
You guys forgot Kaynans loss at karate combat which was beyond terrible. God I couldn’t believe he looked like that considering his skills. I’m not a 100% convinced that his adcc performance alone is enough he faced both Declan n cyborg twice . The adcc was lacking, If Nicky rod was in absolute I highly doubt he’d of won. But that said I guess there isn’t anyone else because of the split talent pool n many others doing a lot more gi like pato mica etc
Fair points - Kaynan's strength of schedule in the ADCC isn't the best. But, he beat who was there decisively going 7/8 on sub wins. Hopefully someone books Kaynan v Nicky Rod - seems like an easy storyline match. - Ross
Has calum lost his glasses?
Good question. Where are Calum's glasses??? All suggestions welcome... - Ross
Cool guy.
How will you separate the Marcelo Gordo Hoger trifecta Snowman was pretty boring in MMA as well tbf. Pronouncing Rani with the hard R hit my old man ear weird
The trifecta separation has been decided and will be revealed in the final part. Calum's pretty strong on the #1 Perhaps the way we Scots roll our Rs added to the ear hit...
@@JiuJitsuOracle-lz9yf we'll see... can make arguments for each Always heard it pronounced like Hawnee
Crazy Nicky Ryan won’t be in C or D seeing what happened at CJI. Looking forwards to where you put Marcelo on this list. Also y’all should do one who each of you think are top 5 of all time nogi or gi?
It’s a pre-made tier list, I then added a bunch of people too it, Nicky Ryan and a few others were already in it but don’t make this tier list.
Great vídeo! Keep it up the good work
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Except Mica Galvao now uses PEDs, like Gordon Ryan. I'm not sure how you can match them up with those who do not cheat.
When it comes to top level BJJ and certainly ADCC lots of guys are on super supplements. Some have failed tests from other tournaments. Some have spoken openly about taking PEDs. Some deny it altogether. We can't know who is and who isn't on PEDs for sure. Or who was and who wasn't. We're not going to guess or speculate. That's a minefield. We're just ranking the greats based on their credentials.
Lovely excuse for a trip down memory lane
thanks for the videos lads. would it be terribly difficult to put up the name of who you're talking about? Cheers
Suggestion noted. We'll look into it for the grand finale of the A+S tiers.
Dude on the right has the paddy pimbeltt retard cut , thats wild😂 must be a trend in uk
How about this for a ruleset: Sub only, no time limit, but, as soon as there's no action for say, a minute (ie both too tired to finish) it's a draw. In a tournament it's a double elimination, which might seem crazy, but if you've fought to the point of exhaustion you're next match is likely to be a wash anyways. For the finals, maybe they get a warning or two, and if they're both too tired, it's a draw. Incentivize getting the sub, and being in shape. Or maybe sub only, and if no sub whoever had more top control. If you're sticking with a points system, how about some points for throws/takedowns, a la Judo/wrestling. In a street fight a throw can be devastating. If you want to go for the entertainment factor, let the crowd choose the winner, the ole applause-o-meter. They can also chant one more round for finals or particularly exciting matches. I don't know, there doesn't seem to be a perfect system, or even a great one. They are all either too subjective or too contrived or too open to sandbagging.
It is tough to get a good system. The first idea makes me think of Antonio Inoki seeing an awful pro wrestling match in Japan, walking out and ordering it to be stopped. Maybe we need a Gordon Ramsay-esque promoter to come out and call off any boring match, then berate both competitors for their inactivity. - Ross
BJJ ruleset is very difficult to get right
Re: kani basami - I'm one of those "it's not dangerous if you do it right" guys. It's a *scissor* takedown - you're supposed to take out your opponent's near leg, therefore you shouldn't be able to blow out that knee. It's an amazing technique, especially if you attack leg locks. It should be legal and if you do it wrong/maliciously/negligently you get punished, the same way slams can be legal but you're not allowed to spike someone on their head. Cheers
If guys are given the chance to do it right but the consequences are too severe to the opponent if they do it wrong, I think it should be banned. Blame the guys who do it wrong for ruining it for everyone else… - Ross
Cji rules really looked good compared to fpi
I reckon rather than the specific rules CJI had a better mat space and a better roster of guys to put on exciting matches. Although as we said on the pod the one scoring thing that we both disagree with is delaying the awarding of points. - Ross
William Tackett vs Levi
That’s an interesting match and I’d like to see William’s awesome top game v Levi’s awesome guard. But for storyline I’d go Andrew v Levi first seeing as they never met at CJI. William v Kade makes sense as Kade beat Andrew. Or could do an Andrew v Kade rematch with Tye v William also on the show. - Ross
Get my guy Ricardo Almeida on the list
I mean Craig basically defeated ADCC 😂
Also Kynan V Gordon will never happen IMO. Gordon isn't gonna be healthy enough.
Intrigued to see who the GOAT is in your opinions. Potential Big Roj bias incoming... tune in next time.
Guess which one of us rates Rog higher???
Another great video!
Thanks
