Just restart the round where the previous ended. Gives the guy who earned top his position back, and if they are going for easy to understand rules, seems pretty easy to grasp!
That makes even less sense to me. Why just go back to the same place after taking a minute off? What's the point in taking a minute off? And the rest usually benefits the bottom player because the position is never as snug and they've had time to recover. - Ross
We saw most of the top pros in adcc n cji do aiga events all around the world this year and the round system works just fine. I can’t say it hurt (or helped)a single match in regards to excitement.. I do think the pride round idea seems slightly better Because there’s no minus for pulling guard ( with connections) you’ll see fighters who want fight on the ground get there and the wrestlers can wrestle
I just hope the grapplers get enough time to work. 5 mins for elite athlete v elite athlete still seems short to me for one to make something happen and be allowed to build on it. In Aiga there are a lot of mismatches. Plus, there are still plenty of boring rounds/bouts. We'll see over the weekend. - Ross

Hopefully strict stalling calls stop that from happening. But it's always a risk. I've watched 40-minute ADCC finals where there is little action. - Ross
I personally don't like rounds in Jiu-Jitsu. Most of the time people take minutes just to get to the ground and there's little submission attempts. I know people sight other shows as good example but in general it's better to have just one 10 to 15 minute match, sub only with stalling cards. I hope this doesn't ruin the show😢
Don’t worry It’s not gonna ruin the show. many of the top guys in world did multiple aiga events and the matches were exciting. . There’s no minus for guard pulls in cji so there’ll be a lot less hand fighting at the minus 80 .. heavy weights don’t pull guard as much ( the heavier you are, the better your passing will be just due to physics. Also heavier guys are stronger and strength helps the passer- flexibility the bottom player)
That's my fear, that when it comes to elite grappler v elite grappler, guys need more time to work. The norm seems to be 10 or 15 min matches for this caliber of athlete, so I think it would have been safer to stick to that. - Ross
To me, that seems a bit contradictory to what jiu jitsu / submission grappling is. It's slower and longer than freestyle wrestling. Guys need time to work. - Ross
In any jiu jitsu match someone can be losing and still win by pulling off a sub right at the end. It doesn't matter if there are rounds or not for that to happen. Someone can be 20-0 down in IBJJF and still win. - Ross
I think starting on the feet and then pulling with a grip and maintaining connection is fine. Sitting down with no grip and shuffling around isn't jiu jitsu. There needs to be contact. ADCC has the penalty point for pulling which usually persuades people to wrestle and that's (mostly) good, it's a big part of the game. But, it can turn into long portions of pretty poor wrestling. I still think there's an optimal solution to be found in how to have athletes start on the feet and wrestle, also have the option to go to the ground and make it as interesting/entertaining as possible. - Ross
i enjoyed this
Thank you!

I heard they might be doing that

It would be helpful if they put out a video with some explanations of how exactly it will work.
- Ross
I do believe the next round starts where the last ends. I heard Craig say that early on, but I haven’t heard that confirmed since.
I think they near to clear up this and other rules by releasing a video. With less than a month to go, we shouldn't be guessing at this stage.

I hope at the start of the round they get reset back into the same position they ended the previous round in.

going to have 4rounds of collar ties and last round maybe some grappling
Hopefully strict stalling calls stop that from happening. But it's always a risk. I've watched 40-minute ADCC finals where there is little action.

5 mins is just way too short for jj.
Agreed I like how Fight 2 Win gives update on who's winning without stopping action.
It’s 3 five min rounds so 15 min match total

More so than boxing or MMA this will be like getting 3 shorter fights for each matchup

But, it's good if u r down 2 rounds & pull off a sub in rd 3

Rule set sux....should be 15 minute matches...and 10 min overtime....Finals 20 min match with 10 o-time
Something like that sounds better to me.

Butt scooting is stalling some grapplers prefer standup and you should have to meet your opponent on your feet
