One thing I think will be a talking point after the CJI event is the "alleyway" walls. I've noticed in B-teams' training videos they have a mock wall made up. No ADCC style flying off the mats etc and I think the wall work is unchartered territory which will create some upsets.
We’ve seen the same idea in Karate Combat with The Pit. It’s good for not having matches spill off the mat on to the floor. And as the ref tries to avoid that, the need for constant resets. The Alley should favour wrestlers to keep the action in the middle and have space to complete takedowns. We’ve only seen a wee bit of action actually on the wall. I’m sure we’ll see more this weekend. And it’ll be interesting to see if anyone comes in with a strategy of trying to take the action there. - Ross
That's what we've been going with and that's what the graphic says. But he's a big dude who can chuck people around, we'll call him whatever he wants... - Ross
Nobody in 80+ kg has ever felt heavy hands like Kerkvliet’s. At 285lbs he will also be the fastest. He has very dangerous Greco-Roman throws. Extreme pressure downwards in all positions.. His scrabbling ability down is crazy fast. Nobody in this division will get a Takedown on him. He has incredible Cardio & pace as well. Will be tough to not be worn out by him. He has very limited Submission Grappling experience. Nicky Rod is an average lower level college Wrestler. He has definitely improved his submissions. Nicky Rod has good Wrestling/Jiu Jitsu. Nicky Rod was man handled in a Super Wrestling match vs Pat Downey. In 2020. Nicky was 30lbs heavier. Pat Downey is 5-8 years past his prime. Kerkvliet is in his PRIME.
There's definitely a very high chance that Kerkvliet will have to defend a foot lock from Fellipe and if he can't then he's out in round one. If he makes it through, then Rocha or Tackett will no doubt attack the legs as well. - Ross
Thanks for the info on Kerkvliet. We're super interested to see how he will do and he's new on our radar. That said, the big question for him is, can he defend leglocks? - Ross
@@JiuJitsuOracle-lz9yf I agree on the Leglocks are a big problem for Kirkvliet. Kirk’s Takedowns & Mat returns, preasure. Will cause problems for competitors who are not used to the pressure he is going to apply. Another problem is his ability to dominate & control positions. The Grapplers with the best Submissions & quickest to Subs. Worst match up for Kirk. Anyone who attempts to Wrestle him. Best match up for Kirk. Nobody will put Kirkvliet on his back/guard. Your going to be shocked when you see Kirkvliet step on the Mat. What he does.
I don’t think that’s too wild a take. William is really good and very experienced in competition. And yes, Nicky Rod is the #1 seed. We’ve plotted how we think the +80kg bracket will play out in a video out on Wednesday. Our -80kg prediction is out today (Tuesday). - Ross
I'd be really surprised if Lucas swept Victor and probably more surprised if he passed the guard. But your confidence in Lucas has certainly upped my interest in this match, so thanks for commenting. - Ross

starting already with Luke on C made me chuckle
Where do you have him ranked?
@@JiuJitsuOracle-lz9yf comparing him to people like Nicky Rod makes him an obvious S+
Absolutely no suspense whatsoever in the 80+ category. Victor Hugo is miles ahead of anyone.
Good shout. Look out for our 80+kg prediction show which will be out really soon. We plot out the whole bracket and pick who we think will win.

I love your guys coverage of this! … but it’s Greg Kerkvliet not Daniel. Keep making videos it’s good content

Good comment, but I have to point out the "scrabbling ability". Really looking forward to being wowed by these guys' depth of vocabulary.
