I just found your channel, glad to see another wandering soul. That's a lovely spot you found there :) Stay away from these crazy midges and maybe i'll meet you somewhere on a trail :)
Fair play Jason. With the summer as bad as it is you probably have the right attitude, make the best of what it is.
Take it as it comes 👍
Great video jason, nicely placed in the commeraghs. The hiliberg tent looks Savage, considered the palace of wild camping
Cheers Ross 👍
Just curious - what kind of temperatures are you having during the days and nights up there in the hills? Rab jacket...I recently bought Rab pants for riding bicycle on rainy days myself. A bit clammy, but at least I don't get soaked when riding in the rain. As for the view...Love it!
This camp was about 8 Celsius later in the night but in the morning the wind chill definitely dropped it to feel like 2 or 3 Celsius. It was one of the warmer camps this summer. The waterproof trousers are a necessary evil sometimes, not so bad when you're sitting around but working up a sweat in them can be nasty 😄
😊love love your chuckles, have subbed,I am an Irish girl living in Canada PS this Irish “girl “ is 80 years old xxx
Thank you very kindly, take her handy 🍀
Good to see you and the Hilleberg hitting the trail again Jason. I really like that colour too. You find amazing pitches🤗 Take care mate.
I'm in love with that tent, what's even better is it can fit on those not so ideal camp spots without much fuss. Take her handy Lee 🍀
Hi Jason love the footage looks great I'll be out next weekend to somewhere around glenmalure I'll see if I can find a nice quiet spot and relax
I hope that the weather is good to you, Glenmalure will be class. Enjoy it 👍
Great video, love that tent .. €€€€S..! Peregrine Falcon chicks for sure, plenty in the comeraghs ..
I'd love to have seen them, mystery solved I reckon
Great video Jason, keep em coming❤
Thanks a mill Joan, I'm hoping to get back to weekly uploads with any luck 🤞
Cracking video Mate. Not sure what the bird was , possibly a budgie being harassed, LOL.
🤣 a stressed out budgie, love it
Good stuff Jason. I think you're right, summer has just skipped us this year!
100% just skipping summer this year I reckon
Great video jason, call of the wild with the sound of birds. Love watching ❤❤
Thank you Alan, the wildlife on this one was pretty cool. I love seeing them going about their days as if no one is watching 😄
Thanks
Thank you so much Alan, massively appreciated 🙌🍀
Cracking video pal. Just loved it. It kind of gave me an excitement for winter camping for some reason. Maybe Ireland shite summer. Great job man and well edited. You looked happy out to be out.
Yeah the summer has been a wash out so far. Hopefully this winter we'll get some proper winter conditions to make up for the lack of a proper summer 🥶
The comeraghs are such a great mountain range. Lot of history such as the story of highwayman William Crotty and the Hermit known as Lackendarra Jim. Wonderful wildlife.
Thanks a mill, I hadn't heard of Lackendarra Jim, I've just been reading about him. Very interesting 👍
@RamblingOn There's a video about him on Vimeo.
Fab shots of the fox and the moody landscape Jason! The dried fruit was to die for too 🤗 You won’t be waiting too long for some more good Soulo practice no doubt 🤩
The dried fruit is a must have for me now, a perfect camping breakfast. I've been out since and I'll hopefully be out again very soon. Hope all is well, I haven't seen you take your Akto for a spin for a while. I'd imagine you have just not on camera
@@RamblingOn such a long time since I've had the Akto out 😕 I had the Hubba Hubba out on Sunday night which was a joy! Just got a message tonight that my new XMid 2 has cleared customs...I've lusted after one for a long time and finally gave myself the treat!! 🤩 I definitely plan to dehydrate some fruit - just haven't got around to it yet!! All good with me thanks Jason!!
@@MiriamKennedy pooh now I'm wondering did you go for the xmid solid again or the pro 🤔 I have a new tent too 🤫🤣
@@RamblingOn xmid 2 with a 3 season mesh inner and the solid inner!! I got both for the XMid 1 and I love having them both...I still haven't got over my trauma of a single skin tent to have any interest in the pro 😇
Boy do you ever make a cuppa tea look so very good Jason. I always get such peace from your videos..amazing how the weight of the world just melts off just by watching you in your element. Well done again friend...I always learn something new from you. With thanks always for sharing.
You can't beat a cup of tea out in the elements. I'm delighted to hear that you enjoyed this one as much as the others, I've much more ambitious plans to come
Hi Jason, for the bird sounds their's an app called birdnet. When you get a good recording of the song you can highlight it and submit and it sends back what bird it likely is.
Hi Jason another cracking video looked really atmospheric loved it👍
Thanks a mill 🙌
Very nicely filmed, little Timelapse inserts captured the essence of the place. I’ve hiked through countless spectacular places like this and it’s lovely to see it first thing in the morning.
It's hard to beat the colours in the sky just before sunrise, the bad weather only added to the atmosphere of it. I really loved watching it all pass by me. Cheers for watching 🍀
Looking to buy this bag as hand luggage for a month long trip in Indonesia/Thailand. Do you bring any packing cubes or anything to organize your camera gear?
I keep my cameras out and close to hand. I have a spider holster for my mirrorless and my action camera lives on my tripod while I hike. I've not travelled outside of the country with my cameras yet so I can't comment unfortunately
Pro move. Ace.
Nice one again Jason. Take care
Alright Jason, a nice night out, fair play for taking a chance with the weather, it worked out nicely. For the birds, a while back I started using Merlin Bird ID, it has a feature where it uses the microphone and if it can pick up the sound it’ll tell you what they are, I use it for all birds now, it’s worth checking out I think, and free 👍
That is savage, thanks a mill. I had wanted to get to know the different bird calls. As well as the different tree and plant species. That's deadly, I'll definitely use that
Hey, Jason, what rucksack are you using?
I've got the Atom packs MO50
@@RamblingOn Cheers, Jason. Looks lightweight, unlike my back-breaking monster Wisport.
@scotbotvideos I think it's about 800grams ish. That could be a total lie 🤣 it's a very VERY comfortable pack. No issues at all to be fair but it's pricey compared to the likes of Osprey.
@@RamblingOn But what's the airflow on the back like. A sweaty back is the absolute pits.
@scotbotvideos I thought the very same but now it doesn't bother me at all. There's no inbuilt ventilation system or anything. The comfort and how it carries the load, for me at least, far outweigh any benefit of having extra back ventilation.
How far is the drive for you to these stunning locations mate??
This one is about two hours for me, some are three hours or more and others can be about an hour it depends
Great campimg spot, lovely views👌👍
So I listened closely to that noise a few times now and yes. 100% Banshee. Lovely to see the fox, beautiful creature. Probably out looking for nest eggs 🙂
🤣 thankfully a banshee never crossed my mind. The fox was class, I saw a little bird hassling him so I reckon you could be right
Super video as always Jason. Keep em coming 👍
Hi Jason, It's another great camp . You make it look easy, but you have good experience and equipment. I enjoyed your video. Thanks. See you next time.
Thanks a mill, it's not always easy but it's definitely always been worth the effort. Thanks a mill for joining me 👍
Looked so peaceful Great spot, caught some wildlife shots as well, brilliant Regards Jeff
Need to get me one of those TARDIS bags…
It's sounded like a lesser spotted ground haggis lmao 😅.the summer is definitely hit or miss at the moment was out Friday used the windmaster petral combo for 1st time worked well don't see me using my jetboil again lol
I honestly think its the best stove and pot combo you can get. Works a treat with the triflex attachment
£20 for woolen jumper in a charity shop is ridiculous. merino wool or otherwise. it's getting too common with overpicing in charity shops. i buy a lot of clothing from them and support where i can. but £20..? nah, lol
@gallente4TW 😄 yeah I agree it was a bit steep but I just couldn't leave it behind. To be fair it's perfect for hiking although probably not the most hard wearing.
Peregrine falcons on them cliffs, they would have had a nest up there and chicks somewhere around. That screeching is an alarm call. They were worried about your presence.
Ah that is class, I'd love to have seen them but I wouldn't want to worry them. I think they were pretty high up , binoculars wouldn't go astray next time
How ya Jason, damp camp there! C'mere where did you get those ration packs, they look a good yoke? Was that kerry? Keep her lit, mind yourself
How's it going... I reckon damp camps is all I'll get for the foreseeable 😄 The ration packs I bought off a guy in Germany through ebay. I don't have a link for them but there's a few sellers on there. Postage is pretty expensive because of the weight. This was down in Waterford, the weather dictated where to go. The rest of the country had weather warnings that day so it was the best option of a bad bunch. Take her handy 🍀
@@RamblingOn thanks for that! Looking forward to next outing myself, only 2weeks since last one but feels like a lifetime already
@pipandbenji it's hard to get the time, but when it's been a while it's even better when you do get out. Hopefully you'll get out soon enough 👍
I love this guy!!! Great review 😎🔥
lol i'm the same, my mum never sits down and i think i'm carrying the baton.
One of the funniest jolliest guys i ever worked with ended his own life, but i knew there was some inner torment within him and i only found out what it was after he had passed. Guys don't really talk do they.
I would like to think that with each new generation, men will get better at talking about their troubles. Getting outdoors is a great release from the stresses of life but nothing tops talking things through with someone
Yeah I'm 55 and trying to muster up the courage and camp out, I got all the gear but no idea where or when to go for my first one. I suffer with anxiety to.
Anxiety still gets me every time I'm due to leave for a camp. I know there's some wild camping campsites about. That could be a good place to start if there's one close to you
My daily motto is live, laugh, toaster bath. Then my guy Jason drops another video. Keep it up brother and keep ramblin on. Much love from America.
@@robertpayne2822 🤣 I love your motto, both catchy and lethal if taken seriously 😄
Hi Jason, Could you recommend a camping pillow and cook set for me please? I'm gathering a few new bits
The pillow that I've been using for the last few months is the flextail zero pillow. It's a really good size, the pad strap is really strong and holds well. I think it's a very good pillow, better than the trekology aluft that I also have. I recently bought the Soto windmaster stove, it is definitely the best stove that I have tried. The burner is massive, the simmer control is spot on and the pot support is huge. It also has a built in regulator which is fantastic. I bought the triflex attachment too just for a lighter setup when I want that option. I'll be using that as my main stove I reckon especially in the winter. Pair that with a pot that has a heat exchange built in and you're golden. The pot's I use are fire maple pots but any pot will do the job. The heat exchange just improves the over all efficiency. Here's a few links to make it handy.. Soto: amzn.to/4fcUx3S 1 litre pot: amzn.to/4cMqiih 600ml pot (I use this more often now, it will work well with the triflex but sits high with the standard support on the soto) amzn.to/3LBD33e Pillow: amzn.to/3LuzL23
@@RamblingOn Thanks alot Jason. I just had a look at the Fextail and I am a site sleeper. Im not keen on the tapered design for that however, the Trekology Aluft pillow with its height seems to suit me better, if you want to send me a link you get commission for it?
@@cahillp3 I was a bit worried about it myself, Im a side/belly sleeper 😄 I noticed that there's a a few versions of the aluft now... The pro version amzn.to/4cPwPJ4 The ultra amzn.to/3Lz6Nhp and the one that I have which is the plus amzn.to/3SgXoyQ I might have to try the Pro or the ultra myself 🤫😄 If you end up going for one, thank you for offering to make a purchase through my links, it does help me out 👍
@@RamblingOn Fantastic stuff. ill go for the Ultra version. I like a big pillow and I don't mind the extra weight. Ill also try and 600 ml pot. Looks ace.
@cahillp3 that's class let me know how you get on with them 👍
Thanks
@alanrobertson5497 thank you Alan 🙌 That is massively appreciated, I'm getting packed at the moment for the next camp. I hope all is well with you 🍀
All is well, will have a week off work soon, so if I can get the arse in gear, I hope to be in Wicklow for a hike and if lucky a camp. Will be my second venture, I usually find it challenging to get out, have been trying to motivate myself and look forward to it.
Also my back and left leg were bothering me for the last 5 weeks, sciatica pain, not pleasant. Feel ok now.
@alanrobertson5497 Hopefully, the weather goes easy on you for your camp. Every single time it comes time for me to go for a camp I struggle to get myself out. Everytime, even if I've been looking forward to it all week. When the time comes it can be very hard to get going, so you are not alone. Sciatica is horrendous, I hope it doesn't give you any more grief. I'm doing yoga and strength training every day to try keep myself going. It's good that you have it back to normal now, hopefully it stays that way. DDP Yoga is great for back pain but you'd have to do it consistently for a good few weeks to start seeing the difference
