- I took the Minipeak 2 out for a spin. The weather forecast was horrendous, but you have to take the good with the bad.

Really nice and relaxing video Jason. What I found is that each hike is a mini adventure unto itself. Even if you return to a good pitch , it's never the same experience. The weather conditions are different, the light, your mood and thoughts. As for the views, it's a matter of scale: on a fine day you get the vista, the sunset, sunrise, moon rise etc. On foggy days it's the few feet in front of your tent/nose. On these days it's the purple of the bell heather, the black slug you step over, the rain drops on your flysheet. All mini worlds and adventures and why hiking and camping never get boring. 😊
Very well said my friend, I won't even try and add to that. Spot on 🙌🍀
i Agree with you completely. There's no point sacrificing the whole day for a chance of a sunrise. Excellent video again. Thanks.
Absolutely, thanks a mill and cheers for joining me 🍀
Brilliant Jason, my home turf , The Sgilloges lakes.. water blown back up the top of that fabulous waterfall is known locally as "Bean Piobra" which means "Woman with the Pipe." It has been given this name because when the wind blows from the south west, the water is blown back over the watefall and from a distance it looks like smoke rising..
If you did hike up on to the ridge top you wouldn't have been a whole lot distance from your last overnight at top of Mahon. Fairly flat up there too. Great video once again, thank you .
That is class, it's such a stunning place. I can't wait to get back there but I'll be going to some new places before I do. Cheers for the info Tony, much appreciated 🙌🍀
The can looks like end 1980s. Those dots patterns were in fashion at the time. Thumbs up for picking it up and carrying it home, you could get a nasty cut from those old cans.
I use that little dry bag to keep things like that separate from my gear. I always seem to find something, so it's handy to have a place to put it. That can is possibly the oldest thing that I have found so far
Hi Jason, thanks for another cool video. I did my first solo wild camp a few weeks ago. All went well.
That is class, fair play. Nothing like it 🙌
Well done, it.will take a couple for the worries to disappear. But when they do it's magic
Another chill video, Jason. I'm heading out this friday hopefully, not sure yet where, but a bit of peace and quiet out in the middle of nowhere will do the world of good. Take care.
That sounds class, I can't wait to get out. Somewhere new but like yourself the destination is unknown 😁
That can was at the latest 1975 as it doesn't have the stay tab, nearly 50 years old and it's still intact. Well done for picking it up.
I'm just amazed that it sat there for so long without someone seeing it
Nice chilled post..shall I walk up the mountain..can't be arsed! 🤣 I'll just enjoy myself and make a nice relaxing film.
Fair play to you Jason, its all about enjoying yourself; especially when you work hard for a living.
I would have liked to have heard your thoughts and review on the new quilt that you brought on this trip.
It either worked so well that you took it totally for granted, and forgot all about it. Or it was so crap that you purposely didn't talk about it; and disturb this chilled post..haha.
Sit in your tent, drink tea, eat biscuits and watch a waterfall blow back uphill!🤣
Looking forward to your next post..Take care Jason ☺
😄 I'm learning to slow down a bit. It paid off on this one, such a great little spot.
I'm testing out a few bits of gear at the moment, the quilt included, so I don't want to say too much about them just yet. There's a few reasons. The main one is that I don't want to be bombarding people by showing or talking about gear. I'll briefly mention it but I don't want to over do it. The main reason I mention it is so that when I do a review, the viewer can look back through my channel and see that I have actually been using the product.
The other reason is that I would hate to say that the quilt was amazing and then after my fifth use the stitching starts to fail or something while in the meantime someone has gone and bought it from my recommendation.
I won't accept any item from a company unless I am given the time to properly test the equipment and then do a dedicated video on it in my own time. A lot of company's want review videos immediately as well as a whole host of other things in order to bombard your viwers with their product. That's not fair on anyone, and it won't be happening on my channel.
I've turned down hundreds of euro worth of camping equipment because I wouldn't jump through hoops. I don't enjoy recording review videos, but I do enjoy hearing that they have helped people out.
Sorry, that's a long winded explanation 😄 the quilt did well on the night. That's better 🤣
I'm heading somewhere very special tomorrow. The weather looks horrific but it will be grand 🙌
@@RamblingOn I appreciate what you say; and I think you do yourself, and your channel a great favour, with that attitude. I truly respect that approach! That's great.
Take care Jason😊
I appreciate your photography, your time, your channel and your land so very much Jason.
"What a place!" Indeed. Thank you dear friend. This was just the holiday trip I needed this AM.
Cheers Joe, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll do my best to go somewhere new next time. We'll be nation wide soon enough 😄 Have a good one 🍀
@@RamblingOn Always a.good one whenever you pop up in my notices Jason. I am like a kid at Christmas. Best wishes and safe travels.
A sliver of flat ground. What more could you ask for in such a great location. Thanks for making this little film.
Cheers for joining me 🍀
Class video Jay. Brilliant camera work too.
The sheep staring back at you was deadly!🤣
I reckon by the look of the dinking hole that can was from the 80's!
Do you ever get a sixth sense kinda thing and think "nope...I'm not camping here"?
😄 that was my favourite shot out of the whole video. I thought that it must have been at least the 90's, I'd say you could be right. We'll go with the 80's.
Oh yeah I've had that once or twice. On three occasions now I've had very vivid dreams in certain areas. Some places just have an energy about them, I can't explain it
Excellent Job man. Really enjoyed the nice relaxed atmosphere of it. That tent is savage man. Really nice. Great spot you picked. Loved it.
Cheers man. I really like that little tent, it does the job 🏕
Lovely pitch and the changeable weather made for some good light and skies. Wild camping should be an enjoyable experience, not always a long slog up a mountain.
It was nice to let go of those expectations of a sexy sunrise and just pop down the tent. It took the unnecessary pressures away
Enjoyed this. Love the laid back attitude. As a middle aged fat lad considering going for a long walk with a tent to get fitter and challenge myself, I seem to be getting caught up in details but this chilled me out.
The little details don't matter too much. You don't even have to walk far to find a spot to spend a night in your tent. Hopefully you can get out for that walk soon 👍
Even my wife was concerned about you and the weather in this video Jason lol. Love that tent too. 👍 Fire maple kit is very good value and be good to see your reviews of their kit. Stunning location again mate. All the best and have great week 👍
😄 Its only going to get worse as we go into the colder months, I can't wait 🤫 The firemaple gear is spot on, cheers Lee. I hope all is well 🙌
Loving the sheep walking over the bridge, great footage!😂😂😂
I couldn't believe it when I saw him crossing the bridge, it was gas
I need to keep this in mind
You chose a great spot, it's beautiful. If not for the type of sheep and that heather all around you I'd have sworn you were in NZ! Thanks for taking us along 👍
No worries, thank you for joining me🍀
First time tuning in and thought it was excellent! You've got a new subscriber! 👍
Class, thanks Mark 🙌
Aye aye fella'. You're right enough about not needing to scale every peak just because it's there. Sometimes it's perfectly acceptable to just stop and chill and do sod all. Fair play mate.
Thanks for the video. Good to see you out and about. 👌
Cheers man, it was definitely the right decision. I'll go back and head up top some other time. Take her handy 👍
@@RamblingOn lol, I had to look that up... ".. An Irish farewell which implies that the recipient should have a safe journey, stayed relaxed, take care, not strain themselves and if at all possible be drunk..."
Dang, I like that.! Superb.! 👌
Smashing video Jason. You enjoyed it without putting yourself under undue pressure....
Cheers Alan 🙌
Pedantic observation - your tent (4-sided) is the Luxe Outdoor Minipeak, mine (the 6-sided one) is the Luxe Outdoor Hexpeak.
That aside, I share your approach to pitch selection. Just find a bit of flat ground that will provide good holding for your stakes and won't flood if it rains - anything else is merely a bonus, although reasonable proximity to a water source is nice. Personally I also value remoteness and solitude so prefer to steer well clear of seeing, or being seen by, other people. Plus, avoid exposed positions when it's windy, and seek them when it's calm/midgey.
You are spot on man, I've just been making a complete arse of myself 😄
Having a water source close by is always welcome, I have become very reluctant to carry water when there is so much available from natural sources. Cheers for the tips and the heads up on the tent, have a good one 👍
Same thing with backpacking imo, people watch UA-cam and think the only way to do a multi-day hike is to do 25 mile days that end with a wild camp and a fire.
I personally find doing 15 miles a day that end up at site with a shower and a toilet just as agreeable. And some of the farm sites I've been on haven't been that far off a wild camp, tbh.
You are not wrong my friend, that is a very good point. There's plenty of trails out there that can be completed without having to wild camp. Fair play, I hadn't thought of that but I'm delighted you mentioned it 🙌🍀
Enjoyed your video. Easy going. Sliver of flat ground...yes.¡
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers 🍀
Nice relaxing camping video, a gentleman with a good old laid back view of the world around him, don't see many irishmen on here, nice for a change, I got Irish ancestors too.
Glad you enjoyed it, if you haven't been to Ireland you should try nip over for a visit. If you can't make it over then hopefully I can help you see some of it. Have a good one 👍
Love that weather. Beautiful views and beautiful camping.
Cheers Phillip 🍀
Hi Jason, lovely spot for the night that was in it. There was no point lugging yourself and the gear up to the top of the mountain when the weather is like that. Looked like you had a chilled out time. That tent looks interesting, it seems to have a good bit of space in the vestibule area. Hopefully the weather will be better for your next visit to the Comeraghs. Thoroughly enjoyed your video. All the best 👍
Cheers Andrew, it was a class little spot. Somewhere that I'd like to go back to when there is snow on the ground 🥶
Jason, a typically lovely day in the Comeraghs😊 Just a pity you didn't get more rain to keep the Gore-tex going🌧 There has been nothing certain about the weather this summer! That waterfall was way cool fighting against the wind as was all that mist floating about👍 A super camp spot beside the lough with the sound of the waterfall as a backdrop👍 Who needs a phone or book when you have that lantern🕯Nothing like sexy mist filled morning views. #LeaveNoTrace👍
I actually got a lot more rain on the hike up than was shown in the video, I had a camera issue which meant I was standing in the pouring rain trying to sort that out. By the time I had it sorted the rain had pretty much blown over 🤣 Such a rookie.
I reckon that it was by far my best camp spot to find. Without the worry of seeing a sunrise or sunset I was able to relax a lot more. It really took the pressure off. The little lantern will be nice now when there's some frost on the ground 🥶 If nothing else it will give the illusion of feeling warm 😄
Nice one Jason.
A stunning little spot mate I bet your go back there again especially with out the rain.
Atb Graham
I'm looking forward to getting back there when there is snow on the ground 🥶
Love the set up, lantern looks really relaxing to sit and watch.
Cheers Paul 🍀
What a gorgeous spot Jason. Shame the weather wasn't kinder to you, but it's what we're used to in our parts of the world hey?!
I do like the look of the Hexpeak 2. I might have to check that out. Great video mate.
I got pretty lucky with the weather considering the forecast. It was supposed to be a very rough night. I'm looking forward to the colder months now, Cheers man. Have a good one 👍
Good to see you back out Jason ... 🏕🌞
Cheers Dean 🍀
Great video friend! 👏 Taking the Hexpeak Minipeak 2 out for a spin in challenging weather conditions definitely adds an element of adventure to wild camping. Your willingness to embrace the less-than-ideal weather and share your experience is commendable. It's true, sometimes we learn the most from our camping mishaps, and your insights about avoiding bad habits are valuable for anyone looking to enjoy the great outdoors. Thanks for the informative and entertaining content! 🏕🌧
100% I have learned the most from making mistakes, it's by far the most effective way to learn. Cheers for joining me on this one 🙌
Hey ..I really enjoy your manor..👌
Cheers Jason 🍀
Tutt Tutt ~ No roughing it with you're Xboil ... Nothing better than getting away from it all. Kids back to school, means less drone videos for me ... Time to put my feet up & take it easy.
Hopefully you can still manage to make some time to get out and about 🤞
Interesting tent.... Wouldn't mind one of those....
It’s just nice to see and hear an Irishman on UA-cam!
Ah cheers for that, have a good one🍀
Great video, thank you
Nice video especially with the heather in full bloom, I would just say when pitching, put the rear of the tent facing the wind, plus your head should be higher than your feet when sleeping
Cheers man, I would always have the head end higher than my feet. You are spot on about the position of the tent, I just find that it's not always possible to have that perfect pitch. Especially in my case, the spots I camp on are flat-ish at best 😂
@@RamblingOn although I know the ideal situation, most of my vids i pitch in the dark, so i have no idea what i am pitching on lol
Lovely spot and as you say, if it's flat, grab it. You can always pitch and then go have a wander, it's not like anyone's around like 😂 didn't realise that tent was as cheap as that, looked really idyllic with the lantern on. You say you were in Connemara? Lovely relaxing video. Cheers!
He said 'Comeragh mountains' . 😊
Yeah it wasn't a bad price when I bought it, it's got its quirks but it's a nice little tent. I was down in the Comeragh Mountains. It's beautiful down there, cheers man. Take her handy 🍀
Hi Jason. Loved the video as it shows me what hikes are out there in other parts of the world. I just did a winter hike and hot and dry, top of 24 and low of 11. And i was grumbling about the cold.
Oh don't you worry, I am always giving out about the cold. Wait until I'm out camping in the snow this winter 🥶 Fair play man, take her handy 🍀
@RamblingOn No worries mate, I'll match your snow hikes with 40+ degree hikes, and we'll equal each other out. Won't be long before we're there
🦘🍻
Nice one Jason, was only checking this morning for a new video. How did storm Betty treat you?
All good, I've been working the whole time so I haven't been out 😄
Just found your channel, great craic! Pls tell me again what the tent is.
The tent is a Hexpeak Minipeak 2, it's got it's quirks but it's a nice little tent. I might do a review of it down the road 👍
@7:54 If only we humans could secrete lanolin like the sheep, we wouldn't need to buy expensive goretex coats!🤣
😄the sheep have it figured out
I pulled my hamstring watching this .
🤣 comedy gold
The Comeragh mountains are a fantastic.
They are fantastic, I can't wait to go back
I love your videos. Would love to wild camp sometime
You should definitely do that 🍀
Have you done a review of that tent ,considering buying one or the one tigris tetra
I haven't done a review but I might do one in the near future maybe we shall see.
You were talking about the sheep with no fear. Did you hear about the fella walking in the Mourne’s who had a sheep land on him fallen from the cliff above! Broke the fella’s back but the sheep walked away no bother! Laugh or cry what do you do..
In that situation, if I was the guy, I would definitely cry 😄 What are the chances of a sheep falling on you
Awesome view my friend
Cheers man 🙌
Class video mate
Cheers man 🙌
I simply drink unfiltered water 💦 direct from the streams, rivers and lakes.
It’ll take just one bout of S&D during a camp and the following week dreaming of a dry fart to change your ways.
@@RichardOutdoors Well... it's been 65 years and exploring across 💯 different countries so far, drinking unfiltered water... and still dry farting nicely. Although I occasionally get the shits after a hot curry.
@@RichardOutdoors How long since you got S&D?
I'd rather play it safe and avoid the scuts 😄
😂 well said
Where do you leave your car and is it always left alone? Parked up for a hike and came back window was smashed 😩
There are normally small car parks or lay by's for a few cars to pull in. I can't say that it is always safe because there might come a time when I return, as you did, to a smashed window or worse.
I don't let myself worry about those things, worrying about something that might never happen isn't going to do me any favours. If it happens I doubt I would even worry about it then. I would much prefer to just get it sorted and carry on with life rather than allowing it to impact on my life.
I'd hate for something like that to stop me for going up into the mountains and experiencing a night out in my tent. Life is too short
That’s from the eighties as has the old style ring pull
It's amazing how it just sat there for so long, in full view of everything
@@RamblingOn funny thing is it tasted better then than the crap we get now
@@swordfish1414 I'd well believe it
Is there a coupon code required for the Firemaple?
The discount should work just by using the link but if it doesn't, you can try 'Rambles10' and that should do the trick
Ok thanks! NIce videos Btw. @@RamblingOn
@@JimmyDevere thanks a mill 🍀

Fucking great channel Bai!
Cheers Dave 🍀
Late 80s early 90s for the can I'd say
Yeah it's spent a lot of years sitting up there anyway
@RamblingOn fair play I always admire the fact you Bring other people's rubbish back with you
A comment regarding a flat space to place a tent: Me personally I like to have a slight incline to place the tent on where my head and upper body is on an incline for sleeping. For people that suffer from acid reflux being on a slight incline can be beneficial.
Well done on your videos sir 👍🏻
My daughter suffered really bad with acid reflux when she was a baby, it's a bad aul dose. I never thought of that and again it goes to show that there's not one rule that suits everyone. Cheers for that man, take her handy 🍀
I'd love to have a camping buddy...anyone out there from Wiltshire?
