  • I brought my Lanshan 2 out for a spin on a night when really, I wasn't feeling it and I struggled to just get myself out of the house. Somethings things aren't always as easy as they might seem.

Do something for yourself? Ha... I'm 60. 93-year-old mom, 88-year-old mom and dad in-laws, 5 girls, 5 grandkids, Wife, dog, cats. What is backpacking? I have been waiting 30 years to do a week backpacking. There's always hope. That said... I am very blessed and appreciate it. Thanks for the video. Great work.👴

It's like the weather, if I waited for nice weather to be able to go camping I wouldn't get out half as much as I do. If you wait for a week to free up you will never get out, take a few hours to have a quick over nighter. If you are happy, every around you will benefit. Sometimes we have to be a little selfish. It's not easy, I often feel guilty for going but I'm a better dad and husband because of it. That's just my opinion but I hope you can get out sooner rather than later 🍀

I haven't been out camping in months for exactly these reasons. Even just this past week I was all packed and made an excuse not to go. Hoping I can get over it soon as it's doing my head in. That was an idyllic spot you found there Jason. Cheers.

I've done the exact same thing too many times. It's a battle against your self, there's an arsehole in there that wants you to be miserable. In my experience you have to quite literally visualise him in your mind so that you can tell him to feck off and go do what you love doing. It won't be easy but it gets easier the more you do it 🍀

Man, I've literally just uploaded a video where I talk about exactly the same thing!
Anxiety has stopped me in my tracks many times! Making daft excuses as to why I "can't" go camping. No idea why it happens because once I'm out, it actually does me the world of good.
Frustrating thing but you're not alone mate. 👍

I appreciate your honesty Jason - in sharing how hard it was to drag yourself out of the door to your home to spend a night camping in the outdoors...and how at ease you became once you finally got your tent pitched and settled in.
Tea and digestive in hand...life can be very good sometimes. And I am glad you share those precious moments with us.

Just over my first venture out, managed a day hike. Was wondering what my next venture would be and woke up thinking about a local spot and thought yeah and then the excuses came like it's private property, it's cold, it might not work out. That spot where you pitched up is one of the most idyllic places to camp that I've ever seen. Bloody hell, mate.
I doubt I was alone in saying 'it's up here' and pointed at my head when you said it yourself about the stag, lol. I'm an amateur street-photographer, so am always at the ready if I see something or someone that catches my eye. But when that moment in time has gone, I'm never annoyed. Because as you say, it's all in your head. Think of it this way, you could have gotten a picture, that you wouldn't be happy with anyway, and then showed people. Fair enough. But to actually *describe* the creature and give people an account of how majestic it was and almost surreal and unique the situation in that moment for you would to me, be better than a rushed snapshot.
Mate, that you *got* to the front door and then pushed your mind and body through it is something to self-acknowledge. I totally get you. Alike yourself, I'm no stranger to anxiety and I wouldn't be surprised if you too have times when just getting out of bed is a struggle, let alone the front door. Little victories mate, little victories...
Thanks for the video and the effort that goes into it. I appreciate you fella'..

I've got some sexier spots that I'll be going to over the next few weeks all going well. 100% I often just stand and watch, I only reach for the camera if I know that it will be worth it, a rushed shot is not as good as a detailed memory.
There are so many people who go through the same thing, I never realised it was so common until everyone began commenting here. Little victories add up to big victories, every time we get out there are no regrets. Deciding to stay home will leave you regretting that decision for days.

Hey Jason, sorry to here the old anxiety problem has raised it's ugly head again. But you should be chuffed with yourself m8y. Because with ur mental health, coupled with your back problems; you could easily give in, and stay in..but you don't!!!!
Enjoyed the story about the stag. Try this when watching wildlife, and let me know how you get on. I think it works!
An old fella once told me, that predators have both eyes facing forward, whereas most herbivores have eyes on either side of their heads.
Both eyes facing forward means a predator can focus on it's prey. Whereas having eyes either side of the head gives all round vision; so they can avoid becoming prey.
Anyway, getting to the point. The old fella told me that when you're watching wildlife, turn your head so you're only watching with one eye.
Apparently, this causes the animals less stress as they mistake you for a herbivore, and don't feel threatened. Seeing one eye they assume your not a predator, focused on them. Often you can watch them for much longer, before they run for it!
Grand to see the trusty old Lanshan out again. So much better than that tent you used last time.🤣 I'm only teasing you!
A great little post! I quite like your yarns around the tent. Spliced with your usual great photography and epic time lapse shots.
I do have one criticism though. How the hell can you go camping with such a pitiful supply of biscuits? That tiny Tupperware thing, with about 4 biscuits in it. Mate, you need the whole packet..at least! Get your act together Jason!🤣
    Take care buddy! 😊

Ah that's a good tip, I never heard that before but to be I didn't even see the stag until he ran off. I was coming through the trees and he must have been on the other side.
😄 I think it fits six but I agree, I need to improve things in that department. Maybe on the longer winter nights I'll bring extra biscuits. I'm dreading the day that I forget the tea bags 😯

    • @RamblingOn
      @RamblingOn  Рік тому +2

Anxiety isn't something that is easy to understand. Even if you live with it and it haunts you it's hard to understand, it can be very hard to deal with because its a part of you and it's fighting against you. Your mind is making you feel physically sick, like you have the runs, maybe it's making you feel absolutely exhausted or worse it can send you in to a panic attack. Then you decide to pack it in and all those symptoms go away.
Its like a parasite that you can't see or feel. I love heading out but all too often that little fecker tries to stop me from doing the things I love. It's a long aul battle but it gets easier the more you overcome it. Enjoy your trips out, it's the best thing you can do for you. Cheers man 🍀

@@RamblingOn Thanks for nicely explaining mate! You put it very well.
I think I had that too, when I was young I was heavly bullied at school for few years, I failed my last school tests and I did not knew what to do with my life.
I kinda run here to Scotland when I was 18 managed to live and survived on my own without languange working all kind of crappy low payed jobs.
Anyway 20 years later im alot stronger and dont fear much anymore I guess.
Just love being out whenever I can but I always do long 3± multi day walk, hikes etc. to new places to make it very interesting and to have an adventure, makes me keen to go every time.
Just finished 300km West Highland Way + Great Glen Way 11 days was epic!
Have learned alot about me, my gear etc
