Born into a paint and body family many moons ago. Escaped for a brief period to become a helicopter mechanic/beer drinker in the United States Army. Eventually drawn back into the game by shiny paint jobs and beer money. Definitely a DIY guy since I have the knowledge and skill but no dinero. Just trying to share some of what I do to help others and also because my daughter laughed when I said I was going to start a UA-cam channel.
Hope you folks enjoy this channel and will subscribe to see what happens next.

Project Show Truck Spotted!
I finally ran into Mr. Jody Reed and the C10 Show Truck Project that is on this channel. He has been showing the truck since about the middle of last year and I caught up to him at the Grounded Truck Gathering in Cumming, Ga. The truck is outstanding! Be sure to check it out if you happen to run across it at a show somewhere.

Finally got around to sanding out some runs on the inside of the bed. Not a lot of fun and a high risk of sanding through. Part of the game though. #stoutcustom #c10 #restoration

Hows it holding up ?
@@swartzkoft7886 I sold the truck but I’m sure it’s doing fine. I’ve painted chrome in the same manner many times and never had an issue. This method is also used by aftermarket restyling companies when they take a factory truck and paint all the chrome and resell as part of their package offerings.
Magnetic strips on steel vehicles save a lot of tape cost in the long run.
Good info. Thanks and thanks for watching
All that work smoothing and sanding the bed floor covered up. Looks great. I can’t wait to paint my ‘63
I think you are talking about two different trucks. The one I smoothed the floor on was an 86 squarebody. This is a 67 I painted a while back. They are similar in color/two tone though. Thanks for watching!
Filler on a bed
Gotta love it

Nice work wow👍
Nice work I recently purchased a 69 C-10 at which someone had already applied seem sealer but it cracked i want to redo it is there a way to remove the old sealer withou damaging any metal ?
@@mkmbleed you usually just have to scrape it out with a flat screwdriver or something. You may get lucky and have it peel out easily once you get it started but just have to try and see. Hopefully you can keep the damage to where it will be under the next layer of seam sealer
Piece of Cake😎

Surgical! Very nice work!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
I used to work at a paint store and people always asked me what was the blackest black, I always answered in Africa. 😂😂😂 but honestly the blackest black is a Pure Tone called New Jet Black from PPG.
Minor fender bender
@@gmctx5487 Ehhhh. It ain’t hurt. 😳
It’s been a while.👍
@@gmctx5487yes it has

@@RobertBusby-qm6ih Thank you!
I'd like to say thanks for all your videos! I started watching you a year ago and you inspired me to take on my 1970 Gmc 2500. I've painted Harleys that I've restored but nothing this involved. My Grandpa said "If you are afraid to fail, then you will never succeed!! At 53 yrs old, I'm here to say that a person is never too old to learn! Peace
@@bruceprosser4283 Thanks Bruce! It’s good to know there are folks out there that get something out of these videos. Thanks for watching and best of luck on your GMC!
Why didn't you just buy the primer bumper?
@@fortyseven1832 I buy most of my parts from AMD. They are right down the road from me. They didn’t offer a primered bumper so…..
I have a k10 the fit and finish of these trucks was just garbage
Yeah some were better than others but overall, not great.
Using the arm to hold the rod for nut removal w a cheater pipe just never occurred to me. That nut was a show stopper until I saw your video. LoL... who needs a vise... Thanks! Oh and instead of a warning board I just rested my arms on a big tree w wheel chocks along with the standard arm lock that came w my S300.
Took me a minute to think of it but worked out well. Gotta use what you got, lol. Thanks for watching!
Look, im addicted to this level of detail. But im gonna be honest, unless im sending that thing to Mecum, or Barret Jackson i dont have the patience for all this for a tailgate my kid is gonna slam a billion times 😂
If you slap that kid hard enough they won’t slam it a second time, lol. JK. Yeah, it turned out almost too nice for a daily. Definitely more of a show truck. I sold it and one thing that set it above most was the time spent inside the bed. Thanks for watching!
Awesome work. Did you replace the wiring for the engine harness?
Yes for the engine. Used a Holley TerminatorX Used the factory harness for the lights and turn signals
@@StoutCustom that Holley came with the wiring?
@@ceaserthemighty yes. The TerminatorX has the ELECTRONIC CONTOL UNIT (ECU) and wiring necessary to run an LS engine or other electronically controlled engine. This one was based on a 1999 LM7 (5.3 truck engine) so it was wired for a 24x reluctor wheel and multec injectors I think. You just have to match the terminator up to what you are planning on running. The TerminatorX Max will also give you what you need to control an electronically controlled transmission if you need it.
@@StoutCustom thanks man!
Awesome work! Very cool to watch you work and put a ton of time into this repair. It shows that you really care.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
The only thing bigger than the trucks are the flags, perfect!
👍👍
That’s what I’m talking about.👍
👍
the truck is work of art but spraying that beautiful chrome bumper wasn't needed
Thanks but I disagree on the bumper. The chrome bumper that got painted didn’t go on the truck in this video. It went on the squarebody. Helped to make it just slightly different from every other squarebody out there. Thanks for watching!
nice vid, wondered how you cleaned and prep the inside of the rail where the roof and rail spot weld to gather. i need to get out rust that appears to be in the narrow part of the rail next to the shoulder that's created by the layering of metal that's been spot welded together within the rail. also there's an area in the drip rail where there's lead work done with a few wholes where the lead didn't take to the metal (my guess is it wasn't cleaned good enough). the lead work in the rail moves up a bit onto the roof (lead on the roof looks good), just a couple of spot in the rail where there's the problem. can i try to evening the lead in the rail (it's a bit globbie) and paint/seam seal over it? any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This truck had been blasted clean and epoxied before I got it. I think they removed any lead they came across as well. Lead can be problematic so most times it is removed and the seam welded if needed or just seam sealer if it’s in an area not seen. As far as rust, blasting is usually the best way to get the surface stuff out. If it’s bad and has gotten between the seams and rotted then removing the bad areas and replacing the metal is what is needed. It may need a small patch, roof skin, or cab replacement. I would blast first and see what it looks like.
Good repair job.
Thanks 👍
Where can I get vantablack? Vantablack, known for being one of the darkest substances available, absorbs 99.965% of visible light
👍
Would’ve liked to see it on the vehicle
There are some later videos with it installed. Thanks for watching!
Have you sold your square body what’s the next build? Definitely some nice builds, I can’t keep the parts I’ve finished looking good long enough to get the next area/ parts put together 3 years now since I started my truck.
Yeah, sold the squarebody. Next project is building a small shop. After that I’ve got a couple options on projects but not sure which one I’m going to start on just yet. I’ve got a 47 ford truck cab I started to make into a rat rod a few years ago. I may do that one or start on another C10. We will see….
Nice build!! My 86 has a 600hp 468. It will definitely come alive when pushed around!!
Thank you! Fun stuff for sure. Thanks for watching!
Looks great ! I see this video is a few years old, I was just wondering what was that air powered sealer dispenser do I need that to put the sealer on ?
There are manual and pneumatic guns for these seam sealers. Both will work, just a little easier to be consistent with the pneumatic.
Wide body kit's increase overall speed and coolness factor. Scientific facts.
Absolutely!
Whatcha building
Just putting on a wide body kit for an older capri race car
Hell yeah 🤠

condenser bracket video?
I mounted the condenser at the beginning of the video. Just two straight pieces of aluminum mounted vertical from top to bottom of the radiator support with the condenser mounted in between
Do you still have everything to set the truck back up like a proper truck ? Scooting on the ground is for dogs.
If you don’t like it, move along. Plenty of “proper” trucks out there for people like you.
Io avrei assicurato la pompa sommersa ad un tubo in polietilene. Sembra che l'acqua sia corrosiva laggiù. Vedo molta ruggine😮 Ad ogni modo, gran bel lavoro.
Thank you
Good job , how it coast ?
Where did you buy the dashboard panel from? I need to replace mine also but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
It came from Honda. Just a factory part.
Hey mr Jim I know you said what to use on one of your videos.but I can't find it,but what kind of paint would or do you recommend on painting the interior with? Single stage or BCCC? I am wanting to paint the outside of my truck an candy color.miss your project builds you got to do some more.
If I’m doing a solid color on the inside I like to use single stage. It can usually be painted over existing finishes. If you are going metallic or a multi layer candy color I would use BCCC but on an older vehicle the interior would need to be stripped to bare metal. Painting BCCC over old finishes often leads to problems. Thanks for watching!
@@StoutCustom thanks for the information. Hope to see you doing some projects soon. An obs or another squarebody..
Who did you get your fender wells from?
They are factory style from AMD but I modified them. Had to add about 2 1/2” because I raised them up
