  • Bought a new TCI transmission 4 1/2 years ago for my project truck. Now that I finally got it on the road, the trans died within first 60 miles. Not sure yet the reason for the failure yet. #c10, #stoutcustom , #squarebody

I had something very similar, I had 4L80e rebuilt by local shop, it was about a year and a half before I got my truck going, I didn't have any symptoms, but I was looking in HP tuners to make sure trans as locking up and it never seemed to lockup. Looking further the trans was slipping, constantly. I put very few miles on it and was on they way to burning it up. Transmission shop was so nice and rebuilt it again and even changed some more internal parts, in addition to the clutches... I did pay them to take it out and back in instead of struggling with it myself on the floor on jackstands. Nice work!

I think it pays to deal with a local shop for sure. Thanks for watching!

This is why the brain surgeon never never messes with the Powertrain Control Module to diagnose the root cause. In the shop, using a 40 Amp stereo system, never never exceed the number #5 volume setting as this will re-reset the 3rd clutch band wearing the friction material completely off if pulling a trailer. It destroys the captured check valve quickly. This I why I rebuild my own 4L6e and use a 50/50 mixture of solvent & ATF applied with a eye dropper and watch for leaks over a minute or more. Rock, Paper & Scissor is the final test with Scissors winning 3/4 of the time. No drip, good to go! Suggest a new senator plate as these get beat to death and Sonnix pinless accumulators.
Oh well, years ago a guy told me the black transmissions last almost five to six years, better deal. Either way, stay cool doing your garage work! Have a lucky one!

Oh my my you just got to experience the way my luck generally rolls lol. A bonus tho is it didn't last long enough for it to get filthy and the zip ties make things a bit easier. Just another day in the life buddy. Man that trans jack is a blessing to have, back in the day it was belly then floor hehehe

4L80 is much better anyway. Basically a Turbo 400 with overdrive and electric valve body. Rock solid.

@@StoutCustom Depending on the shops work load, ask them what went bad.

Transmission guy said the input sprag exploded. Said it was usually caused by abuse but with the low miles on the truck he was really unsure of the cause.
