- Attempting to smooth out the old dash so I can get it covered with the rest of the interior. Not sure this is how it's done but it's how I'm doing it, lol. #c10, #squarebody, #stoutcustom

Jay Leno Garage had an episode where he went to a father & son business called "JustDashes" and like you, they cut out old bad stuff, filled it. But now covered it with a foam, heated a sheet of plastic and vacuum formed it over the entire dash one piece.
They trimmed the extra, painted some color, UV protection and finish it looking new. They are in CA, but shipping and their services would be $$$$. I don't have Jay Leno money laying around but they did darn fine work since the 80's. There father needed something fixed and could find anyone. Bought some equipment and went from their. I worked at a boat dealership and yes, fiberglass sucks! DK, Omaha.
I’ll have to see if I can find that episode. Sounds interesting. TMI makes a nice dash for C10’s but I think you need Leno’s money to get one.
@@StoutCustom Just search for it on the internet. Cool company but I don't know what they charge!
Happy holidays Jim.
Awesome video! Glad to see I’m not the only one who hates fiberglass work. 😂
Lol. Thanks. Yeah, not my favorite for sure.
Just walk away! lol. Looks like it is coming together! Nice job.
Thanks! Slowly but surely. Thanks for watching!
I just redone the dash in my 87 but I repaded and revinyled mine. It was a whole lot easier than it seems, I used the faux aligator vinyl. Turned out alot better than I thought it would honestly.
I’m hoping this one turns out good. Im going to let my interior guy work his magic if I can find the funds. We will see. Thanks for watching!
@@StoutCustom I bought an extra one from a junkyard to practice on before doing the one in my truck.
@@TheREALOC1972 good idea. This is my practice one, lol. It was so rough I figured I couldn’t mess it up too bad.
@@StoutCustom agreed. because you need to figure out what works and what doesn't.
This its the best looking method,,, at the end looks better then vinyl, with joints in the middle,,,
What a process hope it turns out for you
Thanks. You and me both
Looking good!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
I concur, fiberglass sucks bad. Made a few cacti myself. Personally would rather pour salt in an open wound.
Agreed, lol. Thanks for watching!
You know if it was easy everybody would do it lol
Nice job man pain in the rear I know but you are getting closer and closer
Looking forward to the continuation
Haha, yeah that’s what they say. I looked at the ones online again…man they even look crappy in the pictures. Im gonna try to stay the course. Thanks for watching!
...created a cactus 🌵😄
Yep. It was a prickly son of a gun, lol. Thanks for watching!
great messy job! on mine i just remove the old skin and put an old plastic cover dash find in market place for $30 look great at 5 feet lolll
Lol. I love a good challenge…except fiberglass. 😂
Man I know the feeling, did I tell you I hate fiberglass? Lmao
At least when you’re done it will take a few years to forget how much you hate it. Love the videos
Haha yeah I’m sure I will mess with it again at some point down the road. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
I laughed way to hard at the cactus comment. I felt that! Fiberglass is the worst
Lol. I think the bleeding has finally stopped
Not only does automotive fiberglass suck but house insulation sucks too. Dang I’m itching now.
Fiberglass=suck. No matter what, lol. Thanks for watching!
Looking good. Fiberglass work does suck.
Thanks. Yeah lots of uses ….but not much fun.
Looking good. So are you going to do fiberglass work full time now?
Haha, that’s a hard N0! Lol. Thanks for watching!
Fibreglass……never touched the stuff myself but I get the feeling you don’t like it!😂
In case you missed it….not a fan, lol. Thanks for watching!
💪🏾💪🏾but imma try. nice wrk
Gotta give it a shot. Thanks
When is there more c10 content coming. I enjoy the information and helps with my project(‘52 GMC)
I hope to be back to it soon. Taking care of a few other projects around the house that I’ve been putting off.
Cactus 🌵 maker 😆
Lol. Yeah it was a prickly son of a gun.
Fill it in and leather wrap it.
After I got it smoothed out I had it wrapped. Didn’t like the way it turned out so I bought a new dash and painted it to match.
@@StoutCustom 😂 yeah. I think stuff we used to get away with 15 years ago will not fly nowadays.
@@imonaroll9502 I’ve seen some wrapped that I liked but mine had some issues
@@StoutCustom most of the problem is the transition. I used to glue that part down first. Clamp it. Wait a day. And then do the right and left side. Reclamping till the next day. In the end it was cheaper and faster to redye the plastic cover and glue it down. 😂
Keep going… it’s shaping up to be nice…will separate the original structure from the fiberglass structure?
No, it will all remain together. I’m gonna try to make it work. Thanks for watching!
Off subject: Is all square bodies single stage paint? I have a 87 that needs a lil box repair and I’m not sure. Paint looks very good. If it’s single stage can I still prep box and shoot base clear or single or do I take all of paint to metal and epoxy and work up for base clear?
Most likely the paint on the truck is lacquer. I would go with a single stage paint if you do not strip it to metal. If you want base/clear best bet is to go to bare metal and epoxy first. Reason is that basecoat is mainly solvent and may attack the lacquer underneath it. Single stage is much less likely to create a problem. Thanks for the question and good luck with your truck!
Certainly a lot of time and work involved! It's starting to look like your vision I suspect! Great job! Quick question for you. What brand is your mini - belt sander?
Thanks Frank, it’s getting there. The sander I have is a 3M. It works great.
So next are you going to wrap it in leather or texture and paint it?
Going to wrap it in leather. Still a little ways to go but that’s the plan. Thanks for watching!
@@StoutCustom @ u going to wrapping?
@@gerardolopez5875 I think so. Still haven’t got it finished so it depends on how good it looks once it’s primed
@@StoutCustom @ just apply thick 2k primer, and it would simulate the texture, then paint it to match,,
@@gerardolopez5875 I hope to be priming today or tomorrow. Then stick the vents and molding on it to see how it looks. Will depend on how well they all fit
Fiberglass Sucks! LOL
Lol. Yes it does. Thanks for watching!
