      You do a great job but in my opinion they are no actually beginners techniques ,simple one has to start to learn from somewhere,but that does not mean those techniques are beginners techniques. Just a question when you show beginners throws or take downs which techniques you teach them at first?

    I learned a lot about guard retention in this video: use foot grips to prevent the torreando, prevent consolidation with your second layer of frames, capitalize on space in the side smash, look for the underhook or knee shield against the knee slide. Great to think about it in both directions!

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Рік тому +7

      Definitely! I always find that really cool that the videos can be reversed engineered. I could basically make the same video twice but with the opposite angle. But the viewer doing it themselves is a great learning tool!

    You are my favorite BJJ channel on UA-cam. I get so much out of it.
    Listening to condensed commentary on live rolls, instead of lengthy technique demonstrations in a vacuum, makes it easier to absorb by just watching and trying it in training later.
    You keep things simple and put emphasis on all "small" fundamental movements and positions that happen in between techniques. That is what makes or breaks actually successful moves, especially for beginners and intermediates, who make up the majority of the practitioner base. A lot of schools miss systematically teaching those fundamentals and leave it to students to figure it out themselves.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Рік тому +7

      I appreciate that a lot man! Honestly feeling appreciated and valued is what keeps me motivated to continue making videos. Always feels really good to help people so much. And I 100% agree most gyms leave all this stuff out. I had to figure it all out for myself. Always asking myself "why did it work this time, but not this time" "why did I have to work so hard this time, but it as easy this time."
      Thats the approach I think everyone should take to improve rather than collecting more techniques. For example I was doing positional sparring in mount at a gym I was visiting last night. A guy was trying to arm triangle me and putting tremendous crossface pressure on my chin and not choking me what so ever. When we switched positions I just slowly put on the squeeze with minimal effort and zero discomfort for him. That's what it's all about. Working smarter not harder!

    Always very informative, helpful and well produced. Since you’re asking about issues in JJ, I have a really difficult time rolling against larger opponents. I am purple belt, 5’7” 155# and sometimes I have to roll against people who are 200#+. Any good strategies for top, bottom, high success submissions and how to bring it to the ground (takedown or pull guard) would be extremely helpful. Thanks! 🙏

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  Рік тому +3

      Thanks man! Against bigger opponents mostly everything remains the same and you just need to work harder, be even more disciplined to be technical as well as be faster. As unfortunate as an answer as that is. There are some techniques I'd avoid against bigger guys but overall everything remains the same. It's just the reality of jiujitsu that size matters quite a bit.

  • @keithagee8972
    @keithagee8972 11 місяців тому

    I comprehend why "grappling" has so much pass emphasis. Why does MMA have so little pass execution? I'm thinking the answer is mindset; involving "guard to submission" & "energy conservation".

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  10 місяців тому

      It's because there's different goals in BJJ and MMA. In BJJ the goal is to get a submission, which in general is much easier to do when you're not in someone's guard. Not only is it eaiser but it's also less likely you'll get submitted when you are passed the guard in a position such as mount, side control, or the back.
