For everybody asking how to slide on the mount, I found that it is easiest to get a floor jack and put a piece of wood and lift the motor from the oil pan about 1-2 inches then break the bolts loose from the top motor mount next to the timing belt cover. You don't have to remove it, just loosen the bolts so you can move the bracket up or down 1-2 inches. Then slowly bring down the jack and lock the jack when you bring it down enough to clear the ears of the new lower mount under the frame. Then lift the jack again so you can put the bolts in place for the lower mount. Then go back and hand tighten the upper bolts that were loosened. Bring down the jack a bit and I mean a BIT. Then tighten up against the upper bolts with a breaker bar. And youre done.

Found same mount broken on a friend's car. The 2000 civic had been having idle problems, stalling, and at times a significant engine vibration. The only problem I ran into was getting the frame of the new one onto the bolt. Without the "missing part" of this video; you know what I mean, I found that removing the plastic wheel shroud was the trick. The "pull down" comment I figured had to do with physically pulling down on the rear end of the mount in order to compress the mount and pop it into place behind the metal obstruction. Once I did that all that was left was hitting it with a rubber mallet to slip it the rest of the way onto the shaft.

So there's a significant gap between the bolt and the round part of the mount that the bold goes through. I don't know if it's supposed to be like that or if it need some kind of collier or washer inbetween. I found the mount dangling and the bolt about to fall off so I don't know if there was more to it. No nut either but it wouldn't have anything to block in

Kind of a pain but not too bad. I ended up taking off the front plastic skid plate and pulled half the plastic wheel well off and bent it out of the way. Jacked the car up and removed the tire a well to get as much access as possible. I positioned the front of the mount near it's final position and got both hands on the rear of the mount and pulled down as hard as possible to clear the lip in the frame. Needed a mallet to tap it fully in place and was good to go.

Place the car on jack stands. Then place a bottle jack with a piece of plywood under the engine oil pan. Next remove the upper driver side motor mount bracket. Then you can unbolt the lower mount. To provide space for removing and reinstalling the mount, lower the engine with the bottle jack. Remove the old mount then slip the new mount on the shaft. Raise the jack and install 19mm bolts. Replace upper mount bracket then torque down the lower mounts nut

Thank you for posting this video. VERY helpful and inspirational.
However, so ok, the most difficult part of this procedure is getting the new mount onto the spindle. Working on a 97 CRV is same procedure as the Civic. But, apparently slight difference of ability to easily slide on the new mount to the spindle.
So, I placed about 100 pounds of iron weights from the home gym on top of the valve cover, voila, pushed the engine down JUST enough to slide the lower engine bracket onto the spindle. :) Genius?
I tried various other approaches. Wish I would have thought of the weights before I started, could have been done with entire procedure in 15 minutes including clean up. hehe.

My mechanic friend is working on a 1982 Honda Civic Wagon. But having issues with the engine, even though it is brand new on the bottom, and changed the heads a few times.
The machine shop installed the wrong (smaller) O rings on the auxiliary valves housing. Ran great for a week. The oil and fuel leaked by the auxiliary valves, and washed the rings. The best cylinders, #4, has blown now, but it was not the other day. Even the compression changed on the good cylinders.
He has tried to get the rings to reseat, but it won't work. He tried to a small amount of transmission fluid down each cylinder and put in new spark plugs. Spark plugs were fouled before, now burning beautifully, but the compression has not returned.
How to reseat the rings on this engine?

    • @averyalexander2303

You can jack the engine/trans up by the oil pan and the bottom of the transmission. Using a piece of wood between the jack and the oil pan or transmission is recommended to prevent damage. If possible, OEM mounts are the way to go, but they aren't cheap. You get what you pay for. Aftermarket mounts are notoriously bad and they frequently transfer more vibration than the broken mounts did. If you can't get OEM mounts, I'd just look for a mount kit with decent reviews and ideally a lifetime warranty and hope for the best.

The actual mounting bolts have nuts tack welded inside the frame with no access. The nut has 4 spot welds the size of a pin head and the bolt protruding a half inch beyond. With force the bolt will come out an eighth inch hit the exposed rusty section then pop the welds. Then you have a loose bolt and a nut inside a metal box.
You can see he has already installed and removed the new mount by the bolt wear on the mount.

I have 96 Civic. Last night while changing out the alternator, power steering and A/C belts I discovered that the lower motor is no good. It crumbled in my hand just like in your video. I removed the 19mm nut and the front most 14mm bolt. The second rear most 14mm bolt will not come out because it looks like the threaded insert that it screws into came free. So the bolt is 3/4 of the way out but now it is just dangling there with the remainder of the mount bracket. Say, by some strange luck, that I am able to somehow get the bolt out, how in the world am I going to install the new motor mount if there is nothing for the the 14mm bolt to screw into?

Yeah, I fixed mine. You have to use a rivet nut, also called a rivnut. And you will need a rivnut installation tool. First I used my Dremel tool to cut off the bolt. You can get some metal cutting disks and a bit for the Dremel tool for like $15 at Home Depot. The stock bolt is a M10 with 1.25 thread pitch. They do not make a M10 x 1.25 rivnuts (unless you go to an aeronautical supply and have some custom made for you, F that!) so you will have to get some rivet nuts M10 x 1.5 (from Amazon) get the steal w/nickle plated or stainless (you don;t want it to rust and you want it to be strong enough). You will need the installation tool too. Made by Astro Pneumatic, Model # 1427, Hand Rivet Nut Kit for M5, M6, M8, M10 & M12. It cost $40 plus shipping from Amazon. When installing the M10 rivnut you will need to drill the old hole out with a 9/16 bit. Make sure you buy a new bolt with the same pitch and hardness. I got mine at Fastenal. Tell them that you will be installing an engine mount and they will hook you up with the correct one. Remember to get a M10 x 1.5 to match your rivnut You can special order the rivnuts from them too but might cost more. Good luck!

5 min my ass. Dude, you have to drop the engine 6 inches to get that lower mount on. You must have gotten your mount from autozone or Oreilly's where the mount rubber material is garbage and soft. The real mount that rubber is very very stiff and not very flexible so the engine has to be dropped to get it on.
