- Our $500 Civic handles like linguine, so we decided to give it a little love in the form of coilovers, strut tower bars, rear brace, and rear sway bar.

I miss the old money pit videos. This is filling that hole in my heart.
Yes we need more 😢😂
Basically is money pit without the series name on it
and i miss bart too
The Miata Money Pit series was the greatest 🐍
@@AntoineLaw which is an odd choice to not add the title to it. Money Pit is already a solid series why not just lump this in with that
Money pit reincarnated, oh how I've missed it. Thank you Zach and Donut for bringing this back again!
I definitely expected a longer comparison and better explanation of how it feels with the new suspension.
Thank you for saving me time in watching the video.
so was I thats why I skipped most the video just to be let down
As someone that lives in the “rust belt” I’m so jealous of how easy that car came apart for 400k miles and 25+ years old 😅
I live in Vermont, anything over 8 years old always requires alot of PB Blaster and/or a Torch to remove. I despise winter and salt for this reason....really would like to move southwest very soon.
I bought a 98 Impreza and was no match for 25 years of New Hampshire rust LMAO
I always think they need to do a series on them working on a rust belt vehicle to feel our pain!!!
@@brendanberndt6064 YES.
As a person who lives in region with average 3months of snow. These civics are now being either re-welded for the third time or are missing the floor. And srews become one with the frame. This one for it's condition alone would be worth around 2-3k eur :')
This seems like a money pit season 3, and I love it. Please continue the season 1 vibes
@JOKOWITHEGREATPRESIDENTLaugh with me Joko !!
@JOKOWITHEGREATPRESIDENTwtf did u just say ?
I may not know much about Civics, but I've heard that their aftermarket is pretty deep. Can't wait to see what the Donut team does with this Civic!
Oh yeah, so much aftermarket other than the Integra/RSX.
Really brings me back to the time I overhauled the suspension on my 2001 Toyota Corolla and then 2 days later my engine seized up. Those were the days!
I like the way Zach works on cars. It may be an old junky Honda, yet he cares enough to paint the holes he drilled. I definitely enjoy this kind of "Money Pit" video, and getting more of the gang involved is good too. This channel is a sleeper with some of the best content out there anywhere.
7 MILLION subs, 'sleeper', you need to learn what words mean...
@@cenciende9401 was going to say the same thing. I agree though this type of video makes for good content
@@cenciende9401 That'd suit Gears & Gasoline.

The paint also plays a role in keeping the bare metal covered so no rust can form

The way he described it in the first few seconds is EXACTLY what I'd expect a $500 civic to be AT BEST 😂😂
I love how the Donut crew are able to turn a wrench as compared to other car review channels!
I've never seen Donut review a car
@@kychristell1779 they have tons of reviews?
Not all of 'em though, which makes it even better 😂 they're not afraid to show you when they mess up
Love to see the old school "money pit" style videos back!
Swap Engine & Trany with tuned biturbo set up. Keep it manual. ❤️🔥
I don’t think it’s a money pit. This is all optional. For me money pit is when it’s not a choice. But if you just want to put money into a personal project to make it better, why not if money isn’t an issue.
I’m exceedingly jealous at how easily all the bolts just came right out 😂. Here in Pennsylvania it would take a week, a torch, bloody knuckles and plenty of profanity to get that suspension apart lol
Same every bolt on my da9s had to be hammered out, PA boiz

I just found this channel a few days ago and binge watched several hours of videos. I love your variety, straightforwardness, and synergy between members! You guys have the masterclass connection and I feel like I’m watching modern TopGear. Truly a golden channel you guys have.

This is the kind of content I want to see from Donut!!
I remember running custom ground control springs with Koni Yellows on my '99 Integra. I had pretty insane spring rates, I think 350lb up front and 450lb in the rear, no sway bars. Thing was a beast, immediate lift throttle oversteer. I remember when I had H&R race spring with no bumpstops, my upper a-arms started hitting the chassis in the wheel well. No fun. I even had aftermarket angles upper a-arms. Good times, always wanted a Civic hatch, that's my favorite color. I would never advise a FWD noob blast down a canyon in an oversteer setup Civic. Literal lift throttle oversteer, most "racers" aren't used to it.
The EG is such an incredible platform! I've been a diehard Mopar guy forever (my first car was a 72 Challenger that I still have), but when it came time to buy my first "practical" car, I went with a 92 hatch, because I wanted a car that got over 40 mpg, super reliable, easy to wrench on and large aftermarket support. Over the course of 6 years I put over 200k miles on mine and absolutely loved it! And whenever parts wore out and needed replacing, I upgraded to high performance parts, because in comparison to what I was used to, they were really cheap. And I have to say after I went through and upgraded the brakes, suspension and a bit of performance upgrades it was a great little go kart.
YES!!! REAL CAR VIDEOS AGAIN!!! Love this. I hope we see more of this! I miss Money Pit and just legit videos actually about cars.

This is pretty much Money Pit
@JOKOWI THE GREAT PRESIDENT Get the fuck out of my internet
bro honestly
DUDE CONTINUE THIS SERIES , it’s helping me understand my car better!
My father is from antigo Wisconsin. A man right down the street from his home founded Polaris. He basically invented snowmobiles. Because of this, my grandfather was a pioneer of snowmobile racing. The man who founded the company was apparently a salt of the earth type of guy. After a while, he sold the company and started another company named artic cat. You may have heard of em. Anyway, Polaris rocks and they have NO EQUAL on the trail as far as side by sides are concerned. Cheers to them for continuing to strive for better than was previously available. Also, thanks to the smoking tire for reviewing stuff that is outside of their comfort zone. Another great video matt!
Hell yeah, I've always wondered what the shiny bar was in the rear of Hondas. I always thought it was just a brace... You learn something new every day 🙌🏼
As someone from the Midwest, it is INCREDIBLE to see an old civic with high miles like this on a lift with absolutely no rust underneath. In its current state, I could see that car selling for 10x what you paid where I'm from.
Literally I'm in Washington state and the most clapped out jank civics will sell for 3k minimum if they run. I've been trying to find a crx to replace my dying 93 accord and unless it's super clapped out I'm looking at 5000 for a 200k mile one 😭 which is so hard to justify for a 30 plus year old economy car. Where I'm at under 4000 is basically just crown vic central and nothing else
@@michaelheckman3474 same thing here in Wisconsin. 200k mile civics still going for 3-4k in crap condition.
I feel yalls pain. I live adjacent to Chicago, and car prices are stupid right now.
@BlackRalliart it's crazy my auto 93 accord 10th anniversary was worth like 1000 max 3 years ago and now it's like a 3000 dollar car just because it runs.

Man I love these Civics! Not the fastest cars by a long shot but they handle phenomenally thanks to that all around fully independent suspension. I never had one of my own but man do I want to after watching these.
Love these upgrade videos, Zach is so good at explaining it simply and clearly.
So happy you guys are finally building a Honda! As a B-Swapped EK owner suspension was one of my first big upgrades and I was in a very similar boat with worn out parts. I would love to see the braking system gone through in a future episode. Mine at 250k miles had black fluid from disintegrating master cylinder/caliper seals. Brakes were first upgrade/maintenance item. Rear disc swap, new calipers, rotors, pads, brake lines, master cylinder, fluid. Made a huge difference in braking feel and confidence. Also would love to see some old school b-swap action.
I just felt surprised that he didn't inspect anything else! What else is wrong?! :)

Love the build vids. Keep them coming.
Couple notes for the kids at home: Do not use an impact wrench to tighten bolts to final torque, is almost no cases where its a good idea and you should zip it on lightly and finish by hand... Also when replacing most suspension bushes its a good idea to only lightly assemble them and then lower the car so weight it on suspension bringing it to ride height before tightening. They're using mostly spherical bushings that are self aligning but other types you can have issues with binding where if tightened when fully extended will be over stressing the bush at full compression and it will fail prematurely and not preform as it was designed..... Most good alignment shops will have a 4 post hoist to make tightening at ride height easy ✌ do most at home and trailer it in and have the lads put the final touch on with the alignment.....
It should already be on jackstands if you don't have a lift, so use your jack to raise a tire until it barely lifts off the stand. That's your ride height / preload and you can tighten that corner.
I learned long ago that impact wrenches are only for taking bolts off. Its always worth the extra few min to not worry about cross threading something trying to zip a bolt on.
As long as you're careful and paying attention to what you're doing, using an impact to snug your bolts up isn't that big of a deal. Don't break out your 1000lb impact to do it either. I have a nice little dewalt 120lb battery powered impact that will make sure I don't go overboard with snugging things up.
it's funny how they do all that work and keep the stock Dean Stingers.
Upvotw this especially about the impact things😂
I'm from New England and i cannot believe this car is so rust free and in such good shape for the miles on it! everything is just coming apart with no issues....it's nuts!
A lot of places in the US don't have any/much snow at all. If there's not, for the most part no rust. Southern states really have it easy with that. Up north car will eventually rust to pieces. You can get a lot of good engines in the junkyard because the drivetrain is still good, the rest of the vehicle just rusted apart lol
These guys are lying, they did not pay 500$
@@blue88aw11at least $5k. Even 10 years ago you couldn’t get a non-rusted out one of these for less than $1000
@@roddydykes7053 even at their cheapest this was still a $3k car

I have a 2008 Civic LX 5 speed coupe and I love it. Beast has 355000km. It is the PERFECT commuting car for work. The muffler rusted off 3 years ago, and it has sounded DOPE ever since. Recently another part of the exhaust rusted off (probably right at the manifold), and it now backfires 3-5 times when I rev match downshift. It is basically the best little beater car you could ever want. Never any issues, ever. Just replace the brakes and change the oil. I always recommend a Honda.
