    Thank you very much - this video is excellent. Just one thing for anyone trying this at home : the technique of pounding with a hammer on the lower control arm taper at 02:46, in order to loosen it, didn't work for me. I actually damaged the thread of the ball joint, and had a big problem putting the castle nut back on, once the job was done.
    Next time, I would use a metal wedge to dislodge the lower control arm, taking care not to damage the rubber gaiter. Thats how I ended up breaking the rusty joint open and by then as I said, I'd damaged the thread by hammering.
    Again, thanks very much indeed for taking the time to make this video. It was very useful and saved me $$$$.

      I damaged the thread on my ball joint too! Maybe you could share how you solved that? I figure I can either replace the ball joint or buy a die and try and restore the threads, but the bolt would probably just turn along with the die. New ball joint?

    Funny, I made a how to for CV joint on a Tahoe but never did my kids 2000 Honda Civic. So thanks for making yours I was able to fast forward to just what I needed. I wrench so could follow.
    Key points I would not have caught dropping the lower cotter pin and bolt which allowed me to move the whole assembly. Also I could not get the cv joint all the way back in and thought it was the clip in the way but you showed just slamming it in with the weight of the CV joint itself.
    Thanks for making your video, saved my butt today jobs all done ready to drive again.

      Paul Wyndham haha a lot of fails

    • @builditgarage
      @builditgarage  7 років тому +8

      Alex Aviles - I don't think there were a lot of fails. I think I made some good decisions to put my life in a better position. Dannie asked his question 5 years after I posted the video. My brother needed a car so I gave him the Civic. I purchased a much less expensive house (that need work) on a couple acres and am working on building a new shop as I get other house projects done.
      You can be a troll if you want and make fun of me, but I think I did fine and I helped a bunch of people with the video - even if I called it the wrong body style and what not. Thanks for watching and reading the comments.

    Yes, the owners manual says that you should use Honda Fluid, but it does state that you can use 10-30 Motor Oil temporarily if Honda Manual Tranny fluid is not available. I did not have a chance to go to a Honda dealer to get fluid before I had to replace the clutch. I have since then. Thanks for the comments.

    I can say for a fact this is the same procedure as my 99 civic ex sedan 1.6l. Except for the part where the axle just prys out with a flat headed screw driver. I had to beat the axle for an hour before it finally popped out.

  • @mailpup
    @mailpup 11 років тому +1

    The inner CV joint slipped out of the transaxle case. When one axle slips out the other does not get power to it. Evidently, you didn't push it in completely. It should "click" in and you should test it by lightly pulling or prying out on the inner joint to make sure it is clicked in. In rare cases you might have gotten the wrong axle. When you compare the new with the old, make sure the snap ring is in the same position as the old one or it won't click in properly.
