Tactics ogre will remain as the best game in my life. I just couldn’t find a deeper and darker compared to it. The characters, the branches of the stories, even the good ending made my sad.
Same
Yeah, I must've played through it 10 times. So much depth to the combat: what side you hit from, height, element, terrain, and even weather. I just wish the enemies scaled with your level, kinda sad getting to the end of the game and being able to solo every battle with just Denim.
Same dude
@@LongToad Try playing the Tactics Ogre One Vision mod! It comes with rebalances to better the game overall. I was surprised when I discovered that people still play this awesome game and decided to mod it.
same
Knight of Lodis remains my favorite GBA game to this day.
Greg Mine as well! I wished they made a direct sequel that picked up on everyone’s story from the game :(
Same.
@@jewelquinones452 The "secuel" is let us cling together. Maybe you recogniced the MC in that game, as part of the bad guys.
TheOwwen Yeah, I know! I wasn’t a much of a fan for that game. I wanted a sequel that allowed us to play as the old characters again and follow up on their new lives. Not one with where the mc that saved the world became rouge and filthy lol!
Do you remember who Alphonse was ?
Ogre battle was one of my favourite classic. The feeling of getting a tarot card, and assembling warriors really just gets me. It is a one time thing I supposed, I miss Warren and his magical ways... rip
Libération !!
Lucky you!!
Look up symphony of war. It is the closest thing to ogre battle I've seen since ogre battle 64
I'm convinced Matsuno is nothing short of a genius. The games he created are top quality in every aspect. Amazing.
an ogre battle title on Switch would do so well
Is it way too much to hope for a collection? I realize that would take a lot of work hours but to hold a copy of an Ogre retrospective collection...
You can check Project Triangle Strategy
fingers crossed they bring it to switch
I can’t gush about this series enough. Tactics Ogre and FFT created and launched the massively successful isometric tactics genre. Released in 95, it was well ahead of its time in the scope of the plot and storytelling, mirroring more modern western RPGs. It is so extremely impressive for something running on the SNES.
It's so good to listen a person talk about ogre battle saga, this is my favorite saga of rpg, my favorite game rpg all my life is ogre battle person of lordly caliber✌️ good video men, salute from Venezuela
You have no idea how much this hurts mate... Tactics Ogre is my all-time favorite Tactical RPG (with Vandal Hearts 2: Heaven's Gate being a close second). That unresolved cliffhanger will forever haunt me. The PS1 translation of TO was *so good.* I still prefer it over the PSP re-translation. The language was raw and violent, and really captured the feel of a genocidal war going on. It is no coincidence that Yasumi Matsuno was a student of political science and international relations, and Tactics Ogre was written with the backdrop of the 1990s Yugoslav Wars in mind, with Valeria Island being a fantasy version of Yugoslavia and Walsta, Gargastan, and Bacram being analogues of the Bosnians, Serbs, and Croats, with King Dolgare being a Tito figure and the Kingdom of Zenobia and the Holy Lodis Empire being stand-ins for the United States and Soviet Union.
Anyway the reason the saga starts at "Episode 5" is because Matsuno is also a big Star Wars fan so he followed in its footsteps by starting in the middle of the story.
Thanks for the info
Very good point!
Tactic Orge let us cling together is my Top 1 game of all time. Fun fact, I played this 1 game only for 2 years. (Only can play game during weekend, no game in weekday) Beat twice the game with 2nd time manage to complete the 100 floor dungeon.
There are so many hidens weapons and sets and floor 100 is not the last floor. You can go to 115 collect the ogre set, defeat blackmoor, nibeth before him, and the heavenly generals and their special weapons. You'll have to farm racks, pinions, oricholchem etc
Maybe you can help me lol!!!
Ogre Battle is my favorite saga of all times. March of the Black Queen was my very first jrpg. Even the spinoffs have an amazing story, the world is awesome, the characters, the art style, everything! Only a few negative points here and there.
It is hard as hell, but is the kind of difficulty that rewards you for learning how to play properly. I LOVE OGRE SAGA! And recommend it to EVERYONE who loves jrpgs.
You should download the Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen balance hack rom. The guy worked hard to balance are useless class by making them better so now we can use those cool other classes and monsters that sucked in the original version. He made more change to the game adding a little bit of content I think...
I liked Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together for psp.
i liked better the version from ps one but it was still ok on psp ,
@@Moon-rune I learned later on that the ps1 version existed haha.
yes i understand that happen sometimes :) there is really one thing that annoy me about the psp version is the change of names of the characters
@@Moon-rune i didn't know that.
yeah i guess it does not look strange to you if you didnt play the ps1 version before , anyway both version are good :)
I would pay a large amount for a remake/remaster of Ogre Battle!!!!
I would pay $150+ for a reboot/remake/or whatever as long as the tarots , the gameplay , liberation mechanic is still there...
I'd throw a couple thousand at it. But ik that's not enough
@@life_in_genunicorn overlord is what you seek, it will be release on March 2024 ps5 switch
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 yup 😁✊
THANKS for that video, I asked for it after your first What the Hell Happen and I knew you'd do it eventually. Keep up the great work!
Thanks
My favorite series to strea.
.
Funnily enough, we never did get 3 of those 4 first chapters.
Time to annoyingly nitpick! (Sorry)
They technically didn't quit Quest, they were sorta...pushed there. One of those "higher ups say so" situations. He went into details about that in a recent interview.
The sad part about Knight of Lodis is that it brought in a lot of interesting ideas that could have been a great jumping off point for other games. Also, I believe it was generally considered to be chapter 2, presumably having 3-4 being other antagonists' origins, with 1 being the original Ogre Battle story, and 8 being what FFT became, with original story ideas seeming like a big team up from all the games.
Also of note, before leaving, Matsuno had submitted plans for an Ogre Battle 3. It sounded like they would have done if it he was there.
While the project was ...a long story, Unsung Story was apparently related somehow. A currently unreleased mobile game called Lost Legion (I think) was also supposed to use a lot of old Ogre Battle scrapped ideas, and early videos even used a similar look to the PSP remake's menus.
A note, though, the PSP remake was still successful, considering the niche genre. On top of that, the thing was a labor of love, and it shows (even if they forgot to balance 2 of the classes). I mean for a 1500+ hour strategy game to have only 2 known and barely reproduceable bugs, that's something. That aside, the game had 3 DLCs, and apparently sold like hotcakes overseas. It was less so here, but still regularly ranks among the best PSP games.
That all aside, the official series may be questionable, but they're trying Ogre Battle into FF Online now, it seems, with a (technically impossible) part of LUCT's story being added only recently. Plus many of the armors in game are from TO. Maybe it will spark some new life back to the series, since, truth be told, Matsuno isn't needed for this. He created it, but OB64 and KoL did just fine without his pen, and he's written some...really bad stuff since then.
Also, the modding scene is alive and kicking.
MOTBQ has Hard Type (In the Lap of the Gods, a great difficulty rebalance.
LUCT SNES has Chronicle Valeria, a massive rebalance that introduces a ton of stuff, like new characters, classes, a deeper morality system, personal reputations, a day/night cycle, and more. (Jp Only, unfortunately)
LUCY PSP has One Vision, an Immersion Overhaul that remakes every single Class, Skill, Ability, and Item in the game to a really awesome degree, I have an entire site dedicated to trying to document it all (niche-games.com). He's still updating this regularly.
OB64 Hammerfall is also being worked on by folks that love the game. This one's newer, but coming along nicely with general needed rebalances.
Ok, schpiel done!
YES YES YES!!! I am like the only OB fan in my entire country and looking around the usual places on the net for good info, or mods is like trying to find a rusted needle in a haystack. Thanks for this! bookmarking your site and checking out the mods. Thanks!!!
@@rufrox9947 Sure thing, man! Our little community is surprisingly lively, and I do my best to keep everyone posted on what's new with this series. Enjoy!
Great summary!
When you said "Lost Legion", I think you mean Lost Order, which was announced years ago and still hasn't seen the light of day.
You also said:
"and he's written some...really bad stuff since then".
Can you tell me what you're talking about here, specifically?
@@Omnibus4Everyone That I did, who knows if it'll ever come out at this point. Yup, I'm mostly talking about the MMO stuff. It's arguably subjective, but when I saw the Tactics Ogre bits, all I could think was "What did you do? This is nothing like TO at all..". Also seemed a little odd that the flashback they used never actually happened. I know, subjective, some folks might be into it, but as a TO nut, it was pretty hard to watch.
@@CoffeePotato My biggest issue is that after you put in all the work and the hundreds of hours to beat all 4 CODAs, you get the saddest screen ever. "There will be another Ogre Battle"
8 years later I'm still waiting.
Also, I swear to god Square Enix why would you waste an amazing villain like Rashidi? WHY?
Tactics Ogre "The Knight of Lodis" will always have a part in my heart.
I have yet to start and finish that game. How is it?
@@leonard9624 are they 2 separate games? I want to know because I already beat FF tactics war of the lions and A2.
@@leonard9624 I beat that game already and I enjoyed it.
I wish I got the third death ring to get 3 Lich....
Knight of Lodis is actually a direct prequel to Let Us Cling Together
Great video! The Ogre Battle series is by far one of my favorites! Well done!
It is really good to know i am not the only thinking ogre battle is the best rpg, my favorite is Ogre Batle 64, i have played it over 600 hr xD
I had all the special spells and made a party with 3 of them I one shoted Out-of-Contol-Crazed-Mutated-Danika with that party and I had a bunch of dragon units that could solo entire armies by themselves...
Ogre battle 64 probably one of my favorite game ever.
Tactics Ogre LUCT has the best plot and story of any RPG I've played. Three different story routes and the ability to jump around in the story and play different paths once you have completed it. Also great character customisation with lots of jobs and i loved the music. Turn based games went through a phase of being unfashionable but i think they could have success if they made something new for the Switch. The reality is if they made a new Tactics Ogre game it would probably be a First Person Shooter ...
Great choice for a video, thanks. Love tactics ogre.
Ogre battle 64 was one of my favourite games as a teen.
2020 and I'm still waiting for a new Tactics Ogre or a FFT
2021 now, still waiting
Came here after playing the project triangle strategy demo on switch and got reminded of these beautiful games
Tactics Ogre on psp is one of my favourite games of all time. I bought it three times, one standard on psp, the collectors edition on psp and digitally on psvita :).
*I'm finishing it now for the third time and I'm still discovering new paths
I WANT A PC VERSION SO BAD
I like the video, but there is a major problem: saying that the series was a commercial failure is not quite true. I decided to look for the number of games sold in the series, and I posted the results on Wikipedia (just look for the article Ogre Battle, about the series). There were more than 2 million games sold in the series. Tactics Ogre alone sold almost 1 million copies, and this is not counting the Virtual Console sales (in Japan) or the number of copies the PSP remake sold in North America.
But the rpg scene in the 90s was very stacked anyways
Ogre Battle is right up there with Suikoden in "where are they now".
I came back to this video after SE announced officially the TO remake.
Your what happened to videos are really entertaining and educational. I always watch them wether i know the game or not. Its really sad how many of these franchises end
Thank you.
Cool review! I was going to sink into this game again on the WiiU and came to the expert to hear more from it.
Little piece of trivia: the title isn't a Queen song, it is the first time they actually made a subtitle for the game. I don't know about you, but I'm still waiting for "Ogre Battle: We Are The Champions"...!
Ogre Saga is my favorite franchise ever. I did play tactics ogre knights of lodis back then and final fantasy tta, and Ogre won my heart, even FFTTA and other FFs been really good too, the deep and dark lore of Ogre Battle games was so good. The remake to Tactics Ogre let us cling together was a delight to me, so nostalgic, and so sad i knew it was the last one
Tactics Ogre: Reborn will hopefully reignite this franchise. There is definitely a market for these type of games.
Thank you for this! The Ogre Battle series is my favorite series. I was sad as a kid when I found out tactics was never going to come to snes. I remember seeing it in EGM and hoping it would come. I got so lost in the first one. With all its secrets and replay value. We need another ogre battle like the first one. Tactics is well cover these days. Disgaea is probably the best now days imo.
I played tactics ogre on SNES and fell in love with the franchise. Along with ogre battle MOTBQ. My favorite franchise of all time. Very unique games
Squex just announced another remaster
I kinda like Knight of Lodis. Too bad we will never see this series again.
this is a beautiful question that i would LOVE to know the answer to, ogre battle 64 was my childhood and like literally the only, maybe 1 of 2, rpg's on the N64, and i only had a 64
Tactics Ogre will forever be the greatest game I've ever played. The large scale battles and quick pacing simply can't be beat. I literally have a PSP for this game alone.
Really good video, Erick.
Thanks
I find "Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together" while I looking for Interesting rpg games and I completely love it, the game mechanics, the characters, the history, the soundtrack, everything just hit my heart, I played Tactics Ogre day and night until I finally finish the game, I get so impressed and the only thing I can think it's see the next game of tactics ogre, part two I guess... But... Now I know there's no second part of Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together :( 💔💔💔
Ogre battle 64 was one of the best games i've ever played
Thank you for explaining this whole thing. Ogre battle was my favorite game growing up and I always wished for more of it. Sad to see what became of it
i still have in my car the soundtrack of the first game, they released an orchestra version here in Japan
It's coming back!!! Tactics Ogres reborn!!
Love tactics ogre like FFT. it's a toss up for me.
It's FFT like Tactics Ogre* ;)
@@ErickLandonRPG ^ This
I played so much let us cling together on the psx. I watched a playthrough of I don't even know what and I don't care for it with all the changes it had.
Yep both are excellent
Ive only played Ogre Battle 64, played it as a kid back when it came out, and I LOVED it. Recently found it again and started playing it, man it's so good. It's a shame that the series will likely never return
Tactics ogre let us cling together is the best rpg ever. You're wrong, it will be back!!!
Right now I'm playing the version from Psp, I love it
@@thecyphersupreme why do you think I'm playing it in emulator?
Love Ogrebattle 64 and Tactics Ogre.
I have played Ogre Battle 64 for thousands of hours over the years and never once did I recruit Carth
@@mikedusenbery6464 Yeah, the game was full of mysteries, especially since it released when the internet was not so mainstream. I once got to battle against the Zenobians in an extra chapter in the ending, and I didn't know why.
@@carlosandrereis5801 I got that ending many times before I found out how to get the good ending
The only flaw Tactics Ogre LUCT on PSP had, was that it was too easy compared to the original. And on top of that, the "save states" system to make it even easier.
Everything else... PIECE OF ART. It deserves to be ported to PS4.
Thanks for the Queen reference, some friends did not believed me when i said that.
Quest was the developer behind the Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre series so I just need to know what the hell happened on them personally.
Watch the video then.
Coincidentally I just fired up TO:LUCT for the PSP recently and I must say that it is amazing. Around 10 hours in chapter 2 and I am loving it. I wish they bring the series back. I really love the quality of the art in LUCT.
omg same
The Tactics Ogre games were awesome...it's a shame they didn't see very much success. I would have liked to see ports of the TO games on Steam.
Thank you for this info... I really wish they come back with Tatics Ogre, it's a fantastic game, the best I ever played.. I started with it in ps1.. Today I'm playing the same Let us Cling Togheter but the PSP version. I love it so much.
"Ogre Battle 64 was successful, but it was released for the N64, the wrong console, and published by Nintendo, so Quest had to deal with the losses"... WTF? Not only the sentence didn't make any sense, but today Ogre Battle 64 is the most well known game in the series. Most people know the series because of the N64 games. Very few people know about the PS1 game.
Tactics ogre : i am still waiting for the scene where Haborym on board a ship to kill the dark knights with Denim.
I think this franchise might be the most tragic one I know of. Tactics Ogre on the PSP and Ogre Battle 64 are two of the greatest RPGs I've ever played. They are rare in that nearly every element - story, art, gameplay, music, etc - is top notch. I honestly can't think of any real criticisms of them. The fact that Ogre Battle is basically a genre unto itself is also quite tragic, as the gameplay is very fun.
I really hope a new entry releases someday.
It's even worse when you realize Tactics Ogre was also it's own genre with the isometric tactical strategy RPG until a couple years later :/
I always wondered what happened to the other episodes in the saga since they kinda started with 5.
Miss oger battle.
. Ty
Aaah ! So frustrating...but OgreBattle will always be vivid in my mind and heart 🔥🔥🔥
Liberation!!!
I like how all my favorite games intertwine in a way. For example my favorite RPGs of all time are FF and Dragon warrior series (except like I mentioned my fav rpg game ever is tactics ogre Luct remastered for the PSP ) FF12 is my second fav game of all time and of course the 3 stars here influenced that game and of course they went back and remade tactics ogre Luct that's why it's the best game ever, it's a love note to fans. So my fav game ever LUCT and Second FF12 and then FF tactics also a fav of mine all influenced by these guys and how does Dragonquest/warrior come in? Well it's now square enix and enix created the Dragon warrior/quest franchise so like I said the crossroads have lead these Genius creators and companies come together. Magical indeed.
Tactics Ogre from the PS1 was a great game.
Good video, man! ;)
Thank you.
I didnt care for tactics ogre but ogre battle rocks. Its not fair! BAWWWW.
ogre battle 64 and tactics ogre for gba were 2 of my all time favorite games. might look for my gameboy now lol
And here comes the remake of Let Us Cling Together xD
Tactics Ogre is back with a remaster, FIGHT IT OUT!
Finally!!!! I Love ogre saga, i replay it everytime lol
Ogre Battle is a pure masterpiece. They dont make games like they used to, unfortunatelly...
"Person of Lordly Caliber" is not based on a song by Queen, they dropped that and made an original sub-title.
Loved ogre battle, and final fantasy tactics, and games like Suikoden if I spelled it right.
1:02 One of the most unusual ways to spend 5000$. I am surprised it costs that much. With that price it better be the game of the century.
And now we are back with Tactics Ogre: Reborn on PS4/PS5/Switch. Let’s hope it’s successful enough to lead to some new entries.
Get out and buy this game!!!
Honestly, for what it's worth, the LUCT remake was the best selling PSP game during the month of its release, so to call it "unsuccessful" is a bit harsh. Still, when you have the backing of a triple A developer, sales need to be stellar to be considered a "success". It is a shame that new chapters of the story will likely never be written.
Tactics Ogre Knight of Lodis would be episode 3 or 4 in fact. If you finish the game, you discover a Super big secret and it let's you understand it is a prequel to March of the Black Queen. And the PSP version is sad, since it reuse so much of the FFT instead of using the soul of the first Tactic Ogre. At least it gave us a collector edition (in Europe only, but PSP is region free)
Ogre Battle 64 will be my favorite Turn-based RPG ever...
So sad it come this way
I am showing my age but nothing compares to the original SNES Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. My son is 10 and he has fallen in love with the game. Also, the music composition brings back memories of hours spent playing.
I loved Ogre Battle on SNES but that's the only one I played for more than 15 minutes.
im glad games like these are still being made today. Symphony of war is a good example
I loved the GBA released The Knight of Lodis. I replayed it probably like 5 times since I was 9. For me this one and golden sun were the best gba games.
Great video thx.
You have to beat tactics ogre. It's very good.
Ogre Battle 64 is my absolute favorite game in the Ogre Battle series, me and my mom spent most of our time trying to beat the game before the other can, using different classes and units for our characters and funnily enough, I beat the game first even tho I took the time actually recruit some monsters in all the areas and I kept experimenting with different units and whatnot. XD
The Knight of Lodis is one of my favorites games of all time, I play it to this very day.
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together for PSP amazing Shakespearean, dialogue and character designs
Final Fantasy Tactics also dope.
Great Video Erick Landon RPG
Thanks
The best for me was Ogre Battle. Sad story with all the miss step down the road. Disconnect from Tactic Ogre stuff. The game was hard to figure out in that time, so just a few felt in love. I believe remaking this game Ogre Battle could bring shine on the legacy once and for all with native creator for visualizing the story
Thanks for explain this situation, this is Great Saga, i love this games.
I love this Game together with Fire Emblem...
LUCT has one of my favorite stories of all time. Even though Denam was kind of a daddy’s boi.
I started out with the original fft (one of my favorite games ever), then the remake. Then I played the super Nintendo version of tactics ogre which I loved, then the remake of tactics ogre which I felt was the most well balanced and the best of the tactics games, to bad more people didn't know more about it.
Tactics Ogre will rise again. The 3 key figures are geniuses and tactics ogre Luct on the PSP is the BEST rpg ever made. Period. One day it will rise again.
Ogre battle, vagrant story, final fantasy tactics, three of my favorite video games for that generation I wish I still had them!
Ogre Battle was a fantastic game (and yes, I mean everything from the tarot to the UX) and highly underrated. I get it, Fire Emblem and Langrisser exist and the players loved the whole FFT/Tactics Ogre gameplay style.
I just think that it is missing that feeling of army units moving on city states and liberating them. That was a great system and it's a huge shame that they basically threw that in a trash bin because too few gamers could appreciate something so much more historically accurate than the single unit TRPG playstyle for what was supposed to be a strategy warfare theme.
Like I get it, the average gamer wanted an RPG with a different layout, not a war strategy game. For those of us who actually enjoy true war games it's kind of disappointing. Then again the idea of just 5 units in a single battle is sort of limited for that purpose too.
The warfare system from Suikoden would have made for an interesting TRPG with true warfare elements in it though. Sadly that was all but forgotten.
I love the Ogre Battle series
Knight of Lodis was my first Ogre Battle game, and it hooked me. It didn't felt as refined as FFT, but within that clunkiness and general slowness, there's just so much in it.
To my understanding a lot of the dev team actually split to a number of different companies but mostly they got tied up with large projects. One of them is actually making a new tactical series.
I remember reading that work on another game was supposed to start after FF XII was done but obviously that never happened. D: March of the Black Queen is still my favorite console SRPG. I liked Person of Lordly Caliber but only got to play it a couple of times due to not having an N64.
I also love Let Us Cling Together and consider it superior to Final Fantasy Tactics in many ways. It has a branching story, which increases replay value plus a larger maxium battle party which allows more variety in force composition and battle tactics. And it has a multiplayer mode, or rather a training mode that allows multiplayer.
Knight of Lodis was the first birthday present my best friend ever got me and I prefer it to Final Tactics Advance. I find the class and race combination restriction system to be too limiting. Plus I dislike RPGs where I am forced to play as the villain of the story like Marche.
If you liked Ogre Battle/Ogre 64, you should keep your eye on Symphony of War: The Niphilim Saga. It looks like it will be a mixture of Ogre Battle, Langrisser, and Bahamut Lagoon.
