At the start i was like this is gonna be terrible, but it turned out amazing, if i had a garage id defo build this
When I heard "proof of concept" I knew this was going to be a winner 🏆👏
MORE!!! BUILD MORE GOLF STUFF AND FILM IT!!!
My family would never see me again. Great job!
Fantastic work. The best thing is the sound it makes when you make a putt!
Always satisfying
Super clean setup. Awesome job
Oh man, there are so many ideas that are coming to mind!!!!! Thanks for posting.
That came out GREAT! Well done!
Great build - thanks for filming and sharing your work.
Beauty! Gave me some good ideas for the putting green I plan on building
Great job, very impressed
had the thought you could add blocks under the frame, on the hole end to add an up hill slope to the holes! wonderful build mate
Looks great!
You drilled every putt..that is cool man...i wanna make one of these
This is unreal! Definitely gonna have to look into building one of these
Thanks Andrew!
Amazing work! Definitely gonna build this!
Awesome Connor! Thank you.
You killed it on this build. Thanks for the inspo!
Thanks you! I use it often.
This was a hole in one! Great build!!!
Thank you! It was an enjoyable project.
Came out nice. The glue you would want to use is either contact cement (apply on the wood and the bottom of the turf let it get tacky before putting them together. Or the adhesive they use for commercial carpet tiles applied with a glue trowel. I’m gonna build one super excited
Great work, man 👍
Carry on the great work this gonna go big
Perfect! Had the will to do something similar today but more stress on just something that returns balls. Your design made me want to strive for something nicer for my dad. Appreciate it
Glad to hear! Thank you
Great job!
I know it would be a lot of work, but I’m 16 and I’d love for you to make a video of the entire process. Explaining what to buy, how you built it, how you put it together, etc. either way, I loved the video! Awesome work man!
By far one of the best homemade putting greens that I have seen yet. Love the hinges for the angle and the stain looks great. It is almost too nice to keep in the garage! Cheers, keep up the good work! Add a secondary camera on a tripod in the background next time, you can use to capture things you forgot and the time-lapse shots are always great. I hope to see another one of your projects soon.
Thanks Travis! Yes I am planning a follow up project very soon.
@@kevinhanchukTV please link us to fringe and chipping turf for larger builds. also need more details on how to do the slop bcs not wood expert but know plenty enough about contruction if directions. thanks
!
Nice work !!
this looks amazing, I'd be thrilled to have this. One thing I kept thinking of though, is raising the entire surface with 2' 4"s and having each cup roll the ball back if it goes it. Would be able to have a slight downslope funnel with a pvc pipe.
I considered it, that’s on the list of ideas for version 2 🤫
This was awesome!
Thank you Tony, I use it often.
this feels like the start to a big channel in the future. awesome video
You bet! Thank you
@@kevinhanchukTV hey Kevin... I had a not reply to my original comment. It’s a big scam going on right now so if you could please delete their replies to my comment and keep your viewers safe that would be much appreciated. The scam just came out, so many people are falling for it.
Really great project there! Looks fantastic! Nice to have the option to practice break or not. I’ve seen lots of guys build their own putting surface and a lot of them add sand to increase the speed of it.
Thanks Nathan, yes I have seen that as well. I’m pretty happy with the speed of this though. It is a nice balance to what the local courses offer.
@@kevinhanchukTV where did you get the cups and turf from?
Cups were from Amazon. $15 if I remember. And Turf was a local company for about $80.
I know this post is late but for anyone actually wanting to build this… Instead of buying 2x4’s, buy 2x8’s or 2x10’s. You will be able to cut a straighter line and make 2x4’s out of them in case instead of regular bought 2x4’s that will bow and warp on you. Cheers.
Looks good
Genius 👏👏
Thanks Taylor!
Bro just drops an all time DIY video for a dope ass custom putting green & then rides off into the sunset never posting another build. I like to imagine that you started practicing on this ingenious build with the slope adjuster and became so good that you eventually got discovered at your local puttputt golf course by an alcoholic washed up caddie. He sees your potential and eventually gets you a shot at an amateur competition where you are a runaway success. 2 years and 1 masters later (which you won btw on a banked in putt off the left slope) and you can’t be stopped, yet you decide to Retire to bring us another putting green build with a built-in rollback contraption (pleaseeee). Your caddie is back and being hounded by the pros to come back but he is 12 months sober and in a great spot in his life so he politely declines. Life’s changed bc you built the first one so you owe us a 2nd. What a legend
Crazy part is, that’s exactly what happened. I’ve been away too long, time to bring the people another build.
@@kevinhanchukTV ask and ye shall receive!!! I actually drew up my own drawings last night after watching this video. Going to incorporate the roll back but also the sloped green feature from your build. One addition I think would be cool if you intend to use it when you have friends over is a hinged side rail that unlocks and swings open onto the green as another obstacle. Please tag me when you drop it!
You mentioned below you spent $300 CAD on this which is $235 american dollars. Wow, for the price… this is epic. Im sure you’ll be continuing to field 20 questions on this for awhile, thank you for answering those and thank you for filming this awesome build. #PuttForDough
Thank you! It sure is holding up nice
Mate, mind making another of those up for me and ship it off to Australia? 😂 That is super cool!!
That is freaking sweet
Thanks! It has served me well
I did this but used camry golf carpet as the surface. I used two rolls of it to get the speed down to 10.5 speed. Came out as realistic and true. Was actually mind blown lol.
Nice! Glad to hear it worked out well
SUPERB !!!
Quality work! Those hinged slopes are impressive 👏👌. Can you put in a link for the putting pad (turf) please? I'm getting this done asap!
I’m looking for that same turf
Great work. The only things I would do differently is I would have the board hinge on the other side as well for a different or a double break. Rather then cut the turf, make it bigger.
Very nice work. Especially for a first attempt. You’re going to want to get some cup inserts to make those holes a bit smaller the more practice you get on there.
I think these are regulation but a smaller insert would definitely make it a challenge.
I just bought a proputt systems 4x14 putting green. It works great, but it definitely doesn’t look as nice as yours does. You should look at patenting your slope adjustment setup and building and selling custom ones! You could do a video for each one you build... then the buyer would not only get a putting green at the end, but would also be able to go watch THEIR putting green get built!
That’s a cool idea! I’ll definitely consider that.
Brilliant mate! You could sell these!
Awesome video. Would be cool if you could adjust it for downhill/uphill putts too.
I would love to build another version that could adjust for that as well.
Juat add leveling feet to each corner that adjust up and down
Great video! What type of fire pit is that!? Looks pretty efficient with the fan on top. You like it?
awesome idea I might steal. really curious to see how the wedge in side works to give you your slope
Sounds good Jeff. The only thing I would do different is make 4 points of adjustment instead of two. Then you could have a left to right rolling break.
Agree with Jeff, any pics or insights to how you built the wedge/lever piece wood be greatly appreciated!!! Also, where’d you buy the turf?
@@brandonmuir4582 Also curious on this!
That looks awesome, I hope you don’t mind I might hired a carpenter guy to make me one for my new home that is getting built…🤭
Haha awesome! Maybe add some additional cool features
AWESOME GOOD IDEA. WHERE DID YOU ORDER THE TURF?
What thickness artificial grass did you use for this? Looking to design my own soon! Love the concept and the idea to add the sides on a hinge !
Probably about a half an inch thick I would guess
Great video! Is there a certain type of turf that you used/would recommend?
Not overly as long as it is premium putting green turf.
Any picture or video of the shims you use to create the slope? I get that you push in the dowel, but what is it hitting to push up the surface?
Great Job! Where did you get your surface from?
A place called turf Doctor in saskatoon
great job, didn’t see any down the line straight putts does it roll true? and where did you get the matt from
It rolls pretty true other than my garage floor not being level hah
The turf was from a local shop but any premium putting green turf should work
How did you get that curve cut on boarding pieces on side
How did you get the turf to stay in place? Did you glue it or nail?
I would recommend a carpet glue. I didn’t use the correct stuff and I had parts lift a little bit. Had to go around with small nails and fix but with the thickness of the turf you can’t tell at all.
Since the turf is glued down wouldn’t it stop the hinged sheets from lifting? How did you prevent this?
I didn’t glue it 100%. Left a little room where the turf needs to lift a bit.
well done man! how much did it cost to make? wood costs a fortune in NS right now
Thanks! I know it’s very overpriced here too. Probably close to $300 from what I calculated.
well worth it
Any chance there are plans floating around for this? Something that shows the wedge and dimensions and whatnot?? This thing is epic and I want one!!
Hey Sean, I will put some dimensions together and post in the description as a few people have asked. Thanks for watching
@@kevinhanchukTV do you have the plans? or a materials list?
Hey Kevin, checked the description but didn’t see any info on dimensions, etc. anything you can share? Love the build!
This is fantastic! I wonder what is the cost of the materials?
Probably cheaper now with materials going down
You could cut/sand out little wooden wedges. The further you push them in, the more break you get.
Nevermind. I wrote that before finishing the video lol. Well done.
Took me a while to think of a simple way to adjust the break. It’s not perfect, I have a few ideas for improvements to the next one.
How did you get the tilt to work. I'm inspired to build one so thank you but I'm not sure what or how you used the hinge to tilt. I the hole but what have you used to push the hinge up
It’s just a wooden wedge on the other side of the turf so when I insert the dowel it pushes the hinged piece of turf up slightly. There is probably a different/better way to adjust the slope.
What turf did he use?
Since it's been a year or so how is everything holding up now? Is the turf still in good shape or is it starting to buckle? Any suggestions on anything you would have done differently? Thanks
Everything is holding up quite well. Needs a vacuum once in a while but that’s about it. Would be nice to have sections that come apart to make it more portable.
@@kevinhanchukTV Thanks. I'm debating on whether to make one. I've looked at many & yours is definitely the best one I've seen and the most practical for me.
Link to where you got the turf?
could cut those bords smaller add more of thoes angle pegs on the next one
Could you put together a materials list? What is the width and length? Thanks
Agreed!
I’d love to make this, but with the price of lumber in the US I think this one can wait..
It actually isn’t a whole lot of lumber. But definitely more expensive than it should be
How did you do the slope angle wedge, could you please explain
So it’s a wedge of wood similar to a doorstop. So the farther you push in the handle piece the more it pushes the plywood and angle up
Where did you buy your turf? Please respond with company name and/or link. Thanks!
It was a local company called Turf Doctor in Saskatoon. Not sure where they get their supply from.
@kevin hanchuk very nice build. i have a very nice 2 car garage (and an even nicer land lady). This garage floor is about to be converted to office/putting green/target things to practice my game during office hours.
my question is where in the world do i get the fringe turf and the higher chipping turf from? I need something i can easily order as i am not able to go on road excursion anytime soon.
That sounds awesome Todd. In my city here I called a company that does turf for lawns and stuff and they cut me off a section from a massive roll. Depending where you are located you may have a similar company available.
@@kevinhanchukTV you the man buddy. My question is what do we do if we need multiple sections. For example. I estimate the garage to be about 25 by 25 or so. I wouldn't think they have a roll that wide. Length is obv not an issue... but will the creases mess up the put or any clever ways you can think of to eliminate the creases?
Since I have micro noc (network operations center) I'm buil9ng in the garage along with the big driver target and a few other goodies. I'm considering just doing the whole floor in turf so it looks SICK! when you walk in. But again, maybe not because I think it would be good to at least have a reasonable area of exposed slab for the noc and target
I would be willing to buy one of these off you. How much would you charge and where are you located?
Hey Shaun, I would love to build another. I’m in saskatoon, SK, Canada
@@kevinhanchukTV any idea what you would charge? I’m only 4 hours away. And where I live (Cold Lake) everything is atleast 4 hours away so it’s perfect
Can i get an estimated cost for this whole thing?
Right around $300 CAD all said and done.
Quale modello di tappetino hai usato? Marca, altezza delle setole ?
where did you source that high quality turf from?
Locally. Turf Doctor in Saskatoon
@@kevinhanchukTV Thanks! I am in Saskatoon as well! How has the turf held up? I am thinking about using it to put on top of a hitting platform.
It’s held up well but I’m pretty gentle with it. I think they had fairway turf as well that might be tougher
Where did you get that turf?
I found a local company that does backyard putting greens and turf lawns in saskatoon. I would imagine there would be a similar operation in most cities
where did you get the turf from
Just a local turf supplier called Turf Doctor in Saskatoon.
Where did you get the turf from and how much
Hey Wayne, is was a local turf supplier. I don’t know if they ship or not. And around $60 if I remember correctly
@@kevinhanchukTV you wouldn't happen to know the name of the turf????
A year later , anything you’d do different?
Not overly. A two piece design for easier transport would be nice. It’s still holding up well.
This is great! Where did you buy the turf/green? Awesome job once again!
We have a local artificial turf shop in saskatoon here. As long as you are buying actual putting green turf and not the Home Depot type stuff you should be good. Needs to be decently thick to smooth everything out.
Where did you get that turf
Just a local turf supplier called Turf Doctor in Saskatoon. Needs to be thicker than the artificial stuff hardware stores sell
@@kevinhanchukTV the finished product looked amazing with the dark stain. Made me feel like I could do it. I hope you keep making videos.
The second time around would be much faster. You could definitely do it! Just easy straight cuts.
If you want to save a little money you could just use pvc for the holes
Turf link?
Did he get back to you on this ?
Got seasick watching the video, but good information.
