For me the the most irritating thing is when people write or say, "I would of" and not "I would have". It's something people do ALL THE TIME, and is very annoying lol
At 5:44 I think you missed a big pun when Weird Al sings, "You should hire some cunninglinguist"! Come on now, I'm almost 60 and I caught it!! Maybe I'm just a dirty minded old lady!! Hahahaha!!! I love this channel!! So happy I subscribed!!! Thank you!!
I'm sure there are people who pick up on it but don't explicitly call it out because they don't want their own content to go that deep into adult-only territory.
@PegC I'm a 40-year-old man and believe me, I caught it the first time I heard it... before I even saw the video! So you don't need to worry, there's at least 1 dirty minded guy here with you!
Weird Al is, as millions have said before, a genius. The musicality, the lyrics - that are funny, and flow perfectly, the clever digs and asides. Love the reference to Prince. Weird Al really is a "cunning linguist"
It goes without saying that not only did Weird Al define musical parody he is the undisputed champion of this genre, so much so no one attempts to replicate or offer competition to his genius. No one. This mountain he built himself.
I imagine it’’s relatively easy to form a rock band, and yet not sound like Nirvana. Or the Beetles. Much harder to do musical comedy and not sound like “Weird” Al. That said, check out Tim Minchin’s “Rock and Roll Nerd”, “Storm”, and “Three Minute Song”. And the Axis of Awesome’s “Four Chord Song.” There’s even an episode of South Park, when one of them realizes that every joke they’ve tried, the Simpsons did it better, years ago.
The man has made a career over the last 40 years of being able to make some of the best parodies in the business. Not only is he an incredible lyricist but the man is a borderline genius when it comes to his skills at being able to mimic musical styles as he has in his incredible career. And as amazing as all of his parodies are his original stuff and his covers are by far some of the best things he's ever done
My mother (may she rest in peace) was a High School English Teacher. I think she would have LOVED this song! I know I do. In fact, I think it should be MANDATORY in Public School English classes! (Maybe it would help a few of those lessons stick?)
My mom is a retired math teacher, still with us, mostly. She loved this when I showed it to her. She and my dad really enjoyed the presidential debate parodies.
I love how Weird Al manages to not only come up with new lyrics that work, he matches the beat, rhythm, and syllable count (for the most part) of the original song. He's a true lyrical genius.
It's too bad you only react to Weird Al songs that you get a lot of comments on, because Al posted a live concert video of himself performing his original song, Germs. The reason I'd love to see you react to it is because you'd get to see what an amazing performer he is, plus you'd hear what an incredible song writer he is. People focus on his parodies and totally miss what a musical genius he is. Kurt Cobain knew, and wrote in his journal that Weird Al was a genius.
My late husband got me the Weird Al live DVD for my bday some years back. We watched it over and over. We're headbangers and he never failed to mention not only Al's performance, but he never lost sight of Al having a seriously excellent band. Those guys are like a jukebox.
@@gregsteele806 That doesn't make them not original. Heck, Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo has admitted that "Dare to be stupid" is more Devo than his own songs.
@@snorpenbass4196 I never meant to claim that they weren’t original. They are a very specific sub genres of Al’s catalog though. “Mission Statement” being another wonderful example.
Prince was the main reason he started doing polka song collages. He did it to make fun of Prince songs without encroaching on any copyrights. So long as he shows who wrote the lyrics he could poke fun at about a dozen different songs at once
Technically Weird Al does not need permission to do a parody. Parodies fall under fair use as far as copyright laws go. Al asked for permission out of respect.
@@ddraiss That is very true, which is why the song "your pitiful" was never monetized, as I understand it permission was given for it to be on the "Straight out of Linwood" album, but the permission was withdrawn to release it after the video was already shot, so the video was released unmonetized. He felt that while he did not have approval, he still had the right to release it, particularly as the video had been done, he just felt it would be wrong (opinion not law) to make money off it still. There were other famous songs that were refused one of the most famous was Paul McCartney's "live and let die" which Al wanted to do as "Chicken Pot Pie" - McCartney being a vegetarian didn't approve. Ironically Al himself is now actually Vegetarian himself, in fact eats mostly a vegan diet.
I think my favorite part of the music video is the fact that the animator took the opportunity to throw some shade at Alanis Morissette during Al's explanation what is and isn't irony. Al may or may have not had the Canadian singer's notorious song in mind when he penned those lyrics, but when the animator put rain on your wedding day on the Not Irony side, it was shots fired. And since I doubt anyone has requested this one yet, I'm going to suggest Harvey the Wonder Hamster. Out of Weird Al's catalog, this may be the one you can listen to without crying because it's too short to get the tear ducts flowing. Maybe you could do it as a double feature reaction with Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung, which is another short Al original that goes way back to his early days.
OMG I love that you did Word Crimes!! There is so much subtlety in this one. Like hiring a “cunning- linguist”. The more you listen to it, the more you catch something new. That’s what makes Word Crimes so great. The Saga Begins and Foil have to be next, then Trapped In the Drive Thru! You just can’t go wrong with Weird Al!
One of Al's best parodies. This is also extremely on-brand for him. He's been known to tweet about signs that say "10 items or less" instead of "10 items or fewer", etc. This video might also be the perfect one to make one small nitpick: you're pronouncing Al's last name as "Yank-o-vitcH," but it's actually pronounced "Yank-o-vicK". Aside from that, I'm really glad you're enjoying these. I've listened to this song a bunch and I never picked up the little "psych!" in the background. Good ears!
you could make an entire UA-cam channel doing nothing but Weird Al content. his catalog is PROLIFIC! keep going, you'll get washboard abs from all the laughing!
If you want more of Al's amazing Wordplay, go for the song "Bob," written in the style of Bob Dylan. The video will show the genius, see if you can figure it out! My favorite song of his is another Style song, in the Style of Devo, "Dare to be Stupid."
I suggest before watching BOB that you watch Bob Dylan's original video for "Subterranean Homesick Blues" first to see how amazingly well Al copies the set and style.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Weird Al" Yankovic should get a Grammy every year just for being so Awesome. Great Reaction, Man. Hope you can keep on keepin' on. 👍✌❤
Fun fact, Weird Al didn't know "Spastic" was a slur in some countries, so he omits that line when he does it live nowadays. For education purposes, In the UK and UK areas, "Spastic" was used in the 1950s by mean children as a Nickname for someone with Cerebral palsy. It is a word that evolved completely differently in the US, coming to mean "Quick to do without thinking, or Crazy and unorganized" For example, if you were to write a Blog post, and it wasn't very fantastic, you would probably write like a "Spastic"
I have a degree in literature and history, so when I see someone on line write a story in one big word block it drives me crazy, and I hate it when people use abbreviations like BC not knowing they mean because---- not in my world. Weird Al did radio in college while he earned an Architectural degree. He played the accordion as a kid and submitted his song My Bologna (My Sharona) to the Dr Demento radio show. It was made in 1979 and Al became a much played regular on that silly show. There are tons of his parodies to check out.
this song was because of back in the day facebook and following any kind of politics. it actually helped to know what people were talking about. a ton of dictionary words were used so they had to be looked up. now you know some backround weird al was not apart of, but was happy to be involved, we hope!
This song reminds me of a video that Weird Al did for his personal channel about a decad ago. It was titled, "Weird Al teaches grammar." He videoed himself walking up to the "10 items or less" lane in a grocery store and putting a piece or tape over the word "less" and replacing it with "fewer". He then turns to the camera and simply says, "Grammar people." and walks away.
My mom taught 4th-grade English at Abbott on the south side of Chicago many years ago and I think she would love this song. I'm going to show her the next time I see her.
I lov this song and how he included some easter eggs such as the mine sweeper on the desktop when talking about email and the double entendre cunning linguist. I highly recommend tacky as the next review
I can say, for a fact, that at least one English teacher uses this song in their lessons. One of those teachers is a guy I know called, Sam. Only uses it for the older kids (14+). I what, Al say's about the use of the word, literally.... OOOOOOOOH HOW I AGREE! My brother does it nearly every other sentence. I gave up correcting him within a day. Now if it gets bad I just respond to every literally with: "You Literally did that?!? You literally opened the door!" Much love to everyone from here in the UK. LONG LIVE THE AoD, THE SEWER RATS & THE GREAT PYRAMID SCHEME!!!!
During the lockdown, I had the kiddos do breakdowns of songs like this and some other songs that they could talk to my mom and uncles about. Maybe not traditional teaching but it helped keep us engaged.
My English teacher in high-school actually played this in class once, this was around the time it just dropped as well, because I remember talking to my friend about the new Weird Al songs in that moment.
I remember when this came out, I recognized the video style right away. It was made by a guy named Jarrett Heather, and he did an awesome video for a Jonathan Coulton song called shop vac a year or so before this which is just as good
I don't know if you're a Simpsons fan or not, but when he sings "if you don't know how to conjugate", it scrolls up to the top of the page and it says "HR: Mrs. Krabappel". Mrs. Krabappel was Bart's teacher on the Simpsons until the character was retired when Marcia Wallace, the voice actress who did the character, passed away.
No matter what song from Wierd Al you choose it did not miss! And I also has to confess to commit some word crimes here and there but I always can say that english is my second language and I still has to improve it! :D As a recommendation for one of the next reacts I put "Trapped In The Drive-Thru" in the bowl.
😂 Loved this! Reminds me of an old saying my grandma used often: Ilumínalos o elimínalos, pero no los reproduzcas (Iluminate them or eliminate them, but don’t reproduce them). 😅
I remember discovering his songs in middle school (now like 15 years ago) and showing him to my dad all excited and he had already been a fan since college 😂 Al’s been putting out hits since the beginning
DUDE. This is in my top five Weird Al faves (I'm a writer, degree in English writing/lit from waaaaaay back, and an insane book nerd, blah blah blah) and I've listened to this so many times I've lost count. You pointed out something in this song I'VE NEVER CAUGHT BEFORE. I never heard the "psych!" (or, written wrongly back in the 90's, "sike!") after the blog post "it was fantastic.... that was sarcastic" line. I can't believe I've missed that every time, and I pride myself on listening for all of the little bits that he sticks in the background, especially when they're almost in the supertone level or they're matching the kick/volume of the beat and easily could get mixed in. Damn. You're awesome. I love your reactions to Weird Al, but especially to this one. I was a sub the moment I discovered your channel. Oh, and if I was an English teacher, I guarantee you I'd 100% be playing this in my mix on the ride to school.
To be fair, the word literally has been updated in the dictionary to now include being used when meaning "figuratively". Just kind of shows how language evolves, for better or worse
Oh, that's sad to hear... they're antonyms, we need literally to mean "not figuratively". If they mean the same thing... it's the end of the world as we know it. 😉
@@mrkelso Thanks for that. Now I have REM stuck in my head and an overwhelming desire to watch X-Files lol

To be true, the "literally for emphasis" has been used for ages. *Literally* centuries. To quote Merriam-Webster: ""I literally blazed with wit." William Makepeace Thackeray, Punch, 30 Oct. 1847. The figurative use of 'literally' may be annoying, but it is nothing new. […] The use of literally in a fashion that is hyperbolic or metaphoric is not new-evidence of this use dates back to 1769."
I'm 52 and Weird Al was the second concert I ever went to when I was about 13 and will never forget it especially since I was kind of in the front row and the stage at the time revolved and it was so cool!
One of my favorites! Hahaha! These are fun, I’m glad that you’re enjoying them! Love you Cliff💗💕 Oh, and Bob, is an interesting one from Weird Al!😉😀 #AOD #H.O.G.Fam!!💖
Oh. A UA-camr who actually takes suggestions from UA-cam comments. Amazing. Lol. This is one of his best. My other favourites are Amish Paradise, The Saga Begins, Tacky, White & Nerdy, Party in the CIA, Foil, and Perform This Way.
Pretty sure it was just Prince refusing to allow him to parody any of his songs any time he was asked, Al did not need permission but always requested it and if told no he didn't record a parody of their song, and he still hasn't parodied Prince to this day.
Yes!!! Love Weird Al, I remember him being big in the 90’s. Never saw this one before and laughed with you right through it. Thanks for doing this one, can’t wait for more.
My recommendations are Tacky music video that has a bunch of celebrity cameos in it, Jack Black is one of them. Party In The CIA parodies Party In The USA which is an amazing video and song. Lastly I'd recommend The Saga Begins which is a star wars themed parody of Don McLean's American Pie.
I'm so glad you pointed out the fact he said "sike" in this video. I've seen it dozens of times and never noticed it. It gave me a good laugh again. haha
Doubly glad to see this. 1. I always stop for Al videos, and 2. Another reactor had this song and it got ripped down forever to be hidden, apparently. Glad to see this one-while it stands.
I've been watching reaction videos for a long time and I can honestly say you are the first person that I've ever seen immediately pay tribute to the artist you're reacting to and implore people to visit their page and to give them a like and subscribe even if they don't care for you......... That is out f-ing standing 😊 Cheers, sir. I'm only 33 seconds in to the first video of yours that I've ever seen but now you have earned a like, a sub, and a comment just for being pure of heart. Well done. I wish you plenty of success.
This guy has staying power because he's a brilliant word-smith, as you are seeing and reacting to his craft. And he has lot of hit parodies, but he started becoming famous with Another One Rides the Bus. There are videos of him performing it live at the start of his career and it's amazing! Thanks for bringing the man to your channel as much as you do!
There are so many options for Al it really is next to impossible to single out just one recommendation. Pretty Fly (For a Rabbi) is absolutely hilarious with the amount of puns it contains. Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch. Radioactive Hamsters from Outer Space. Another One Rides the Bus… the list is legion. A Complicated Song is one of my personal faves, though. In middle school I was a big fan of Avril and then his parody came out and I swear I was in tears. Truck Driving Song is another classic

Now if it gets bad I just respond to every literally with:
"You Literally did that?!? You literally opened the door!"
Much love to everyone from here in the UK.
LONG LIVE THE AoD, THE SEWER RATS & THE GREAT PYRAMID SCHEME!!!!
The word literally has been updated in the dictionary because of these people lol
Now it includes a second definition meaning "figuratively"
@@ThisGuyDakota I have NEVER been more ashamed of my own language. Please excuse me. I need to go sit in a corner & cry for a bit...
@Andrew Moss That's understandable 😂
Says the guy who uses "say's". Pot, kettle, black, my friend.
During the lockdown, I had the kiddos do breakdowns of songs like this and some other songs that they could talk to my mom and uncles about.
Maybe not traditional teaching but it helped keep us engaged.
Weird Al has ‘Big DICT Energy’! BDE!! 😂😂❤
My English teacher in high-school actually played this in class once, this was around the time it just dropped as well, because I remember talking to my friend about the new Weird Al songs in that moment.
"Word Crimes" lives in my brain for free. That and "Tacky".
Writers / Authors love the song too.(Approximately 6 minutes in, Including unpublished Authors...)
I'm going to keep recomending One More Minute and Weasel Stomping Day. Among my favorites by him.
No matter what song from Wierd Al you choose it did not miss!
And I also has to confess to commit some word crimes here and there but I always can say that english is my second language and I still has to improve it! :D
As a recommendation for one of the next reacts I put "Trapped In The Drive-Thru" in the bowl.
It’s “have” instead of “has” :)
I laughed so hard and I've seen this so many times. But you laughing gets me laughing and makes it hilarious!
This is one of my absolute favorites!!
I never heard of this song before, but it's now officially my favorite song Weird Al has performed 😅
Finally a version of blurred lines i can actually listen to
"Cavity Search", "I Can't Watch This", "Trash Day" and "Ode To A Superhero" are good Weird Al parodies to react to.
I'm 52 and Weird Al was the second concert I ever went to when I was about 13 and will never forget it especially since I was kind of in the front row and the stage at the time revolved and it was so cool!
5:50 "you dumb mouth breather" had me on the floor!!! 🤣
I’m an editor and I absolutely love this song every time I hear it. Your reaction video was hilarious, too.
I yelled at you to do it in your last video lol. Thank youuuuuuu haha. Your reaction was priceless :)
One of my favorites! Hahaha! These are fun, I’m glad that you’re enjoying them! Love you Cliff💗💕
Oh, and Bob, is an interesting one from Weird Al!😉😀
#AOD #H.O.G.Fam!!💖
This has to be one of Weird Al's most catchy tunes. And that is saying something, because he has a butt load of catchy tunes.
This is indeed an educational song in disguise.
Oh. A UA-camr who actually takes suggestions from UA-cam comments. Amazing. Lol.
This is one of his best. My other favourites are Amish Paradise, The Saga Begins, Tacky, White & Nerdy, Party in the CIA, Foil, and Perform This Way.
Weird Al famously had a long running feud with Prince who consistently refused permission to parody his songs.
Loved this ❤️ Thanks ❤️ Much Love ❤️
I love this song. I am a huge fan. You pointed out the “psyche” to me for the first time. I can’t believe I’ve never noticed that before!
All about the pentiums ( all about the Benjamin’s) they had an English teacher who analyzed that song
Saw him live when i was 18, and got to meet him, he is an awesome awesome showman
My favourite Weird Al's song by far! and your reaction to it was fantastic (I'm not a native english speaker)
ALL WEIRD AL SONGS ARE GREAT ! I'LL BE HERE FOR THEM ALL ! #HOGLOVE2UBRO
As a former south-side Chicagoan (went to college there, grew up in Rockford) I love your Sox cap and Chi-town references!
I'm always down for more Weird Al, the man is a genius.
hello dude nice video
