The whitest little Mormon that ever lived. When Al called him and asked him to help him out, Donny jumped at the offer and put his heart and soul into his performance.
Two quick comments....First, the last name is pronounced "Yank-o-vick" Second....the one thing that gets less attention than it should is this isn't just Al doing karaoke over the original tracks. His band is PHENOMENAL. These are completely new recordings made with Al's band sounding exactly like the original. And they don't just work it out in the studio until it's right. They do all of this live, dozens of shows every year or every other year.
The guy dancing with Al near the end is Donnie Osmond. He's probably the opidemy of 'white' but he was a good sport and cameoed in this video as a shot at his perceived image. There are so many meta jokes in this song that you really need to listen to it a few times to even hear most of them. Good stuff!
Word Crimes is great, Whatever you like is awesome, Grapefruit Diet and That's your Hosroscope for today are 2 very great underrated songs but are awesome.
Omg, Grapefruit Diet! I forgot that song! I loved that song! And That's Your Horoscope For Today.. wow, those bring me back to early college. Absolutely had to bring all my Weird Al tapes with me. Really annoyed my roommate with them. She transferred after the first year. However, recently got together with my other college roommates (we had a 6 person suite for the next 3 years) just last week. All still friends and now several have kids going off to college this fall..
That’s Donny Osmond dancing around. The Osmonds were a family group like the Jackson Five. Donny was their Michael. He and his sister Marie(their Janet) had a very popular TV variety show: The Donny and Marie Show.
That's the legendary Donny Osmond dancing behind Al. Al told him to just have at it and improvise to his heart's content. Donny said it was one of the best times he'd had recording on a video.
The lady getting the surge protector is Judy Tenuta. Weird Al's friend in real life. She is a stand-up comedian with an accordian and an attitude. UA-cam has her. I like the one that starts "Hi Pigs".
The guy who was dancing in the background behind him was Donnie Osmond. He was the youngest of a brother singing/dancing group in the 70's and was almost as well known as the Jackson's (Michael Jackson) brother group back then.
For some reasons I don't understand, people tend to pass over his parody of Living on the edge by Aerosmith Wich is called Living in the fridge! Wich I personally think is absolutely hilarious! Love that you finally tumble down this amazing rabbit hole that is Weird Al Yankovic! Love and respect to you from Quebec my human brother!
He also did a cover of Doddy’s “All About the Benjamin’s”. Ack in the 90’s Cale’s “All about the Pentiums”; yes, another nerd rap parody and it’s also pretty great.
Seth Green is funny and all, but it's Donny Osmond dancing through most of the last half of the video that made me laugh until I cried the first time I saw this. When he performs this in concert, he shows the video of Donny dancing on a screen at the back of the stage too. It's magnificent.
I'm absolutely loving your reactions to his music. I had this song on my MySpace page ages ago. Yes, Klingon is a race in Star Trek, and the language is a real thing that you can learn. (Yes, I'm white and nerdy) I'm nearly 50 and I've been listening to Weird Al since I was a teenager. "One More Minute" is one of my old favorites. As far as newer stuff goes, I'd recommend "Word Crimes".
Klingon is an actual language (yes, from Star Trek). Any good nerd is fluent in Klingon! (Full disclosure: I have a first edition version of the Klingon Dictionary in my library). Guess I’m too white and nerdy :) Al parodied Ridin’ Dirty video really well in this one. Using Key and Peele as gangsters and Donnie Osmond as his “backup dancer” is just another testament to Al’s genius.
Someone actually went through and did a mashup of this and Ridin Dirty. Every other beat, the song switches between each version. It’s friggin insane how on point Al was compared to the original lol. Big recommend to either Tacky or Foil next 👌🏽
Chamillionaire actually loved this song. "The multi-platinum artist is happy to hear the new version, and holds no grudges towards Al. Cham said, "He's actually rapping pretty good on it, it's crazy...He's Grammy-nominated, man. He goes platinum. It's really an honor when he does that. I remember when he redid Michael Jackson's 'Bad.' Weird Al is not gonna do a parody of your song if you're not doing it big. You gotta be a big dog. He shot the video, and people will see it pretty soon. It's crazy." Weird Al is highly regarded for his ability to closely mirror the original song, something impressed Chamillionaire as well. "He's spittin' just like Krayzie Bone on the second verse...It's actually very funny if you listen to what he's saying. The way Krayzie is harmonizing, he does the same thing. It surprised me. I didn't know he could rap like that." Im pretty sure he actually thanked Al in his award speech because this version got a lot of people to check out the original. As for Seth Green, he's a huge nerd and into collecting, so he fit perfectly. The guy dancing behind Al was Donnie Osmond, the epitome of white and cringe, so it worked as well.
@@bradturner8552Lol yeah.. came around when he saw how much more attention *his* song was getting because of the parody. That's the effect Al has and why sooooo many artists love when he parodies them. Because it not only means that 'they made it', but they *know* it will also boost the popularity of their original song. Its usually a win-win for the artist and Al.
Check out the green screen video of Donny Osmond doing his dance behind Al. The crew was literally rolling on the floor but Al had no idea what he was doing back there until he watched the playback. It does not get more white and nerdy than Donny Osmond!
Your Star Trek>Klingon>Kirk or Picard knowledge fills me with great joy! You bring honor to your house! ❤️ Detail: Jordan Peele locks the car door, even though they're in a convertible, with the top and windows down. Musically, there's nothing this man can't do!
Eat It and Another One Rides the Bus are two of my dad's favorite ones of Al's parodies. And in the Eat It video, Michael Jackson had loaned Al his iconic jacket from the Beat It video.
I said it (days later) on the first one, but there is an Al song for damn near everything. Whether direct parodies or a style/artist pastiche? He’s got a song for EVERYTHING

"Hardware Store" and "Bob" really shows how good he is at writing lyrics. Both you have to listen carefully and Bob you really have to pay attention to how the words are spelt. Personal favorites would be "Ricky", "Word Crime", "Living with a Hernia", "Eat it", "Jurassic Park" and "Saga Begins".

Hey, bootleg was the only way we could get the Star Wars holiday special back before UA-cam!
Two quick comments....First, the last name is pronounced "Yank-o-vick"
Second....the one thing that gets less attention than it should is this isn't just Al doing karaoke over the original tracks.
Love Weird Al. If you're looking for more recent stuff try "Tacky", a parody of Pharrell's "Happy", or "Foil", a parody of "Royal" by Lorde
Donny Osmond's dance moves throughout crack me up.
Hardware store by weird al is crazy! I think he's faster than emenim.
That's the legendary Donny Osmond dancing behind Al. Al told him to just have at it and improvise to his heart's content. Donny said it was one of the best times he'd had recording on a video.
I can't believe u didn't mention the amazingly white dancing by Donny Osmond in the back.
Weird Al parodies are GOATed!
Seth,... and Donnie Osmond ...Epic! 🤣
this was number 1 in the uk charts back when i was younger lol
yes here in holland too ☺
I write little parody songs for work. I tried to spoof this and i could NOT. This song is so TIGHT it is insane. I am so impressed with Al on this one
Its spelt Donny not Donnie.
Another cover of his that really hits that nostalgia is All About the Pentiums, a cover of All About The Benjamins. One of my favorites for sure.
Weird Al is so freaking talented, love him
For some reasons I don't understand, people tend to pass over his parody of Living on the edge by Aerosmith Wich is called Living in the fridge! Wich I personally think is absolutely hilarious! Love that you finally tumble down this amazing rabbit hole that is Weird Al Yankovic! Love and respect to you from Quebec my human brother!
The song: They see me mowin'
Cliff: NO!
😭
I would recommend foil by him too
you're gonna like weird al's smells like nirvana.
plz vote this up
He also did a cover of Doddy’s “All About the Benjamin’s”. Ack in the 90’s Cale’s “All about the Pentiums”; yes, another nerd rap parody and it’s also pretty great.
Al is the G.O.A.T of parodies. 🐐
Seth Green is funny and all, but it's Donny Osmond dancing through most of the last half of the video that made me laugh until I cried the first time I saw this. When he performs this in concert, he shows the video of Donny dancing on a screen at the back of the stage too. It's magnificent.
I love Word Crimes, Foil, Hardware Store, Saga Begins. The one most people sleep on though is All About The Pentiums.
One More Minute, an original doo wop song. Haven’t heard that in ages. I’m also near 50, but not white Andy nerdy. Asian and autistic.
Classic Al. Even with Donny Osmond dancing in the background!
The next one you HAVE to do is "It's All About the Pentiums" which is a parody of "All About the Benjamin's"
Check out "All About the Pentiums"
if you haven't already.
ooo and "Santa's Gone Crazy" is hilllllarious
Klingon is an actual language (yes, from Star Trek). Any good nerd is fluent in Klingon! (Full disclosure: I have a first edition version of the Klingon Dictionary in my library). Guess I’m too white and nerdy :)
Al parodied Ridin’ Dirty video really well in this one. Using Key and Peele as gangsters and Donnie Osmond as his “backup dancer” is just another testament to Al’s genius.
Like I said Java script is a website coding language. Lol im white and nerdy.
You can learn it on DuoLingo!
Klingon is also a programming language, based on C++, so a bit of a double joke for programming nerds😁
@@thesingingwoodturner2614 I didn’t know that but it’s amazing!
Klingon is a beautiful language, hard to learn but fun to speak.
Someone actually went through and did a mashup of this and Ridin Dirty. Every other beat, the song switches between each version. It’s friggin insane how on point Al was compared to the original lol.
Big recommend to either Tacky or Foil next 👌🏽
The Tacky single shot video is absolutely amazing. Very well done.
It's crazy."
Weird Al is highly regarded for his ability to closely mirror the original song, something impressed Chamillionaire as well.
"He's spittin' just like Krayzie Bone on the second verse...It's actually very funny if you listen to what he's saying. The way Krayzie is harmonizing, he does the same thing. It surprised me. I didn't know he could rap like that."
Im pretty sure he actually thanked Al in his award speech because this version got a lot of people to check out the original.
As for Seth Green, he's a huge nerd and into collecting, so he fit perfectly. The guy dancing behind Al was Donnie Osmond, the epitome of white and cringe, so it worked as well.
Initially he didn't like it but soon came around to really liking it
@@bradturner8552Lol yeah.. came around when he saw how much more attention *his* song was getting because of the parody.
That's the effect Al has and why sooooo many artists love when he parodies them. Because it not only means that 'they made it', but they *know* it will also boost the popularity of their original song. Its usually a win-win for the artist and Al.
And the guest “background dancer” Donny Osmond!
Check out the green screen video of Donny Osmond doing his dance behind Al. The crew was literally rolling on the floor but Al had no idea what he was doing back there until he watched the playback. It does not get more white and nerdy than Donny Osmond!
React to “Couch Potato” - “Weird Al” Yankovic. Parody of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”.
Get this one some more likes!
Donny Osmond is too perfect in this video!
My favorite part of this video is Donnie Osmond going crazy.
There are few artists that DONT see being parodied by Weird Al as a badge of honor
Your Star Trek>Klingon>Kirk or Picard knowledge fills me with great joy! You bring honor to your house! ❤️
Detail: Jordan Peele locks the car door, even though they're in a convertible, with the top and windows down.
Musically, there's nothing this man can't do!
Eat It and Another One Rides the Bus are two of my dad's favorite ones of Al's parodies. And in the Eat It video, Michael Jackson had loaned Al his iconic jacket from the Beat It video.
You recognized Seth Green but not white and nerdy icon Donny Osmond. LOL
I said it (days later) on the first one, but there is an Al song for damn near everything. Whether direct parodies or a style/artist pastiche? He’s got a song for EVERYTHING
Seth Green was the action figure guy, he is a huge collector of them. You need to do Word Crimes by him, parody of Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke
the film U.H.F. is a also a must watch. no reaction video needed, just watch it at one point. you wont regret it
Artists know that when Weird Al does a parody of their song...they've made it!! 😁Its an honor to strive for!!🎶
My poor country music listening husband, absolutely flipped one christmas season suddenly realizing what our 2 very very young daughters were singing. He bellowed at me WTF are they singing!? "Christmas at ground zero" i answered him "Their favorite christmas song, by Weird Al" he huffed and puffed, but he was ignored.
The last guy dancing with him is Donny Osmond. He and his sister Marie Osmond were singers that were seen as extremely goody goody.
there's a point where i noticed: "i can't do this", - then i watched you power through this. i went to a live performance of this 6 years in a row.... it came back and then "pop-pop"....
4:14 this is when Donny Osmond comes in!
The best advice I can give anyone when digging into Weird Al is to do your research on what song he is parodying and watch that video right before you watch Weird Al’s video. Even if you do it off camera, you will appreciate the man 100 times more.
As an older nerd I get all those references, most of which you're missing. And I was actually on the chess team as well as the science club. And played D&D. Damn I was such a nerd.
They don’t know how much goes into Al’s parodies, which is why it’s awesome that you mention the syllable matching required.
~_~
Weird Al is a legend in the art of parodies 💯🤣🔥
how have i missed that that was seth greene?!?!?!?! i've known of this music video since i was in middle school and never noticed
