The genius of this parody is that the R. Kelly song is just SO outrageous already, so Al flipped it by making his version just completely mundane. It's brilliant.

There’s a fan canon that says that when the protagonist suddenly gets a phone call back in their living room (at 3:05) and it’s his cousin *Larry Perkins* calling for the third time that day and the protagonist lets it go to voice-mail, it was Cousin Larry trying desperately to tell him that he’d left his wallet there at his place earlier that day. If only the protagonist had answered the call, or strung-out Larry had thought to text!
If you haven’t done his song Bob yet you should, it’s absolutely brilliant, to do an entire song in palindromes and making them rhyme is nothing short of genius.

This is one of Weird Al's best animated bits as far as I'm concerned. We all know he's a genius, but truly this is a song only he could parody (or even cover in any way). My vote for what's next is split, depending on what you're looking for. If you want another animated, definitely check out "Albuquerque." If you're going back to in-the-flesh Weird Al videos, "Living With A Hernia" is a must.

I think a very strong argument could be made that this is his best pure parady song of all time.
8:41 This is not a sample. That's Al's band covering those iconic Zeppelin riffs, with permission. They finally let him have those few seconds of Black Dog, after years of refusing to let him do a polka medley of their songs.
3:25 "Why does Larry look so strung out, dude?" The Larry in this animation seems to be modeled on a side character of the same name from the 80s sitcom, Newhart. The show was set in a small town in rural Vermont, and Larry filled the stock sitcom role of Weird Neighbor, along with his constant companions, his brother Darryl and his other brother Darryl. Specifically, the three were the backwoods redneck coot version of Weird Neighbor. Of the three, Larry was the only one who ever spoke except for the final episode of the series where the brothers got to shout "QUIET" at someone. And while meth addiction wasn't as endemic in the 80s as it is in contemporary times, Larry, Darryl, and Darryl could easily be interpreted as giving off that vibe.
God I love this one. The music video originally looked more like Al, but he requested that they just make the main character way more average looking. I don’t have much for background trivia here other than that

I think something you should hit up by Weird Al is Skipper Dan. An original and kind of outside his usual wheelhouse, I think it might be his best song. Just something really deep, which is kind of unusual for him.

But the majority are parodies.

My favorite part of this song, and the brilliance of the song writing, is just about anyone who has ever been in a relationship has had this conversation. If I recall correctly, Led Zeppelin gave him owrmission to use their song at a time qhen they gave almost no one permission.

Weird Al, isn't well known here in the UK. But those who do know understand why he's so big in the US.
He's been doing the same stuff since the mid 80s and he's never changed. He took the song parodies and perfected it. His popularity dipped slightly in the late 90s but he just kept on doing his thing.
This RKelly spoof is one of the best things you could possibly hear. You dont even have to know the original and it's still funny.
