Fun fact, lady Gaga loved the ribbing she got in this song and even fought for it to get released even though her team wanted it shut down
They couldn't have shut it down even if they wanted to, because parodies do not fall under copyright the same way a cover does. It falls under 1st Ammendment protection of expression. They do fall under fair use, so the original artist gets paid, but they can't stop it.
@@profanepersonality Not only that, but Weird Al ALWAYS gets the permission of the artists before doing his parodies.
Yep her producers didn't approve of it. he released it for free. and she later saw it and loved it, knowing it's just him saying'' that's how she performs'..
she loved it.
@@profanepersonality that wasn't the point they were making, the point they were was that Gaga herself loves the song, Monsters (Gaga stans aka me)
shouldn't get upset, but ppl are crazy and will always find something to be offended by even when it's on someone else's behalf
Weird Al’s “like a surgeon” is absolutely hysterical 😂. Its originally from medonna I believe
Madonna's song "Like A Virgin" 🤟
@@Sannoz cutting for the very 1st time 😮
It’s one of the only song suggestions he took from someone else - Madonna asked him when he’d be doing Like a Surgeon and he decided he had to write it.
@Steven Taylor: Not only is it a parody of Madonna's "Like A Virgin", it's also the only parody that Weird Al had done5 that was suggested and endorsed by the original artist
That music video terrified me as a kid. I remember seeing when he was on Hollywood Squares 😂
This song is in my top 5 Al songs. Especially the story behind it. Apparently, Al tried to contact Lady Gaga for permission for this video being on his album, but her Managers said no. He then uploaded the video for free and that was actually the first time Lady Gaga saw the video at all and loved it. Her managers never showed her the video.
Her managers had never heard of the weird Weird AL guy. The thing is, AL played this like a pro. He released his heartbroken statement about he cut short his vacation only to be turned down. OF COURSE, Ms. Ha-Ha finally heard of the situation and was livid at her management. So AL comes out the hero with a whole bunch of free publicity. The man is a genius.
yeah he always asks for permission.
He's done a parody of Madonna; so it makes sense for her to be in this video. "Like a Surgeon" (1985); was his take on "Like A Virgin", which the video had a Madonna stand-in as one of the nurses.
Well... Madonna wasn't actually in this video. That was a lookalike named Holly Beavon. But Madonna and Weird Al get along well... IIRC, "Like a Surgeon" was actually _her_ idea.
Excerpt from the Wikipedia article:
"Although Yankovic generally did not use parody ideas from other musicians, Madonna was partly involved during the writing process of the track. An acquaintance of the singer suggested the idea while with Madonna, noting that it would not take long for Weird Al to satirize her 1984 hit single "Like a Virgin". The acquaintance was a mutual friend of Jay Levey, Yankovic's manager, and brought the idea up to him following the encounter. This is the only known time that Yankovic has obtained an idea directly from the original artist, as he "openly discourages people from giving him parody ideas".
Lady Gaga loved this, and forced her lable to play it. Ms. Germanotta knows what she is doing with Gaga, it's a persona, a character and she definitely realizes the absurdity of it.
She went the Marilyn Manson route by letting her bizarre image blast her into stardom while also showing her real musical talent.
Living With a Hernia is a great Weird Al song. One of my favorites by him.
The fact that James Brown taught Al dance moves for that one makes it one of the coolest examples of Al's greatness.
@@TheNeoVid And got him the set, dancers, and lent him his band.
I think he may have reacted to that one already.
Foil song is great, but the Weird Al gold mine runs deep; it is always a good time! ^_^
Thank you for doing what you do 👍
I concur a thousand times😂😂😂
foil is amazing!
totally!!!
Everyone like this quick
@Alyumic i like all of his reactions, but every time there is a Weird Al one, I'm already in a good mood before I can even click on the video!
I think you'd love Germs. You get to see Al sing an original song and you get to see him perform live.
Al is amazing in concert.
Is that the one done in the style of Nine Inch Nails? That one was brilliant.
Especially nowadays! And geez you can crank it up, laugh, and sound absolutely nuts and yet not wrong while your neighbors are wondering what is wrong with you and hope their kids don't start playing it also. 🤔
This man is a national treasure.
A funny fact about this song is that Lady Gaga's agent told Weird Al that he couldn't release this song on an album without letting her know he made this song, so Weird Al released it online for free, and Lady Gaga loved it.
He’s done a couple parodies of Madonna’s songs back in the 80’s. Aging myself big time here, but that’s when I first discovered him - he’s freaking hilarious. And if you think that head shove was a shot at Madonna, you should watch his biopic movie, “Weird”. 😂😂😂
Loving the reactions. I'm hoping for Bedrock Anthem. Looking forward to the next one.
Request WEIRD AL. trapped in the drive thru. PRETTY PLEASE.
Honestly, my favorite Yankovic song isn't a parody at all, but what he calls a style parody which is "Dare to be Stupid" and the song sounds like something Devo would have written.
Dare to be stupid! 🦸
Yes, this is one of my favourite pastiches by Al. And one of his first. Mark Mothersbaugh said he wishes he'd written it!
I believe Devo even called the track a masterpiece.
@@CTTC Yeah, the lead singer, who I thought was mad at Al for the longest time but turns out he’s got that naturally occurring pissed face, really enjoyed it!
He donated all proceeds from this song to the Human Rights Campaign.
"The night Santa went crazy" still one of my favorite Christmas songs
YES!! I'm so excited because I actually suggested this one. It's honestly one of my favorites. If you liked this, I suggest you watch his video 'Foil' or "Handy" both are hilarious.
That's gotta happen! ^_^
Tacky!!
More Weird Al, please more, more , more, please do them all.
Trapped in the drive through! Its little long but so worth it.
Its length is part of its parodonius nature, for sure!
It will be awesome.
YES! Al interviewing Eminem next!
oh yeah, that was awesome !!!....LMAO
Weird Al is a genius. We all love him!!!! His head superimposed on the woman’s body FREAKS ME OUT!!
"Living With A Hernia" is one of my favorite songs of his. It's a parody of Living in America by James Brown.
Good to see Weird Al still making great parodies
There's a video of the behind scenes of the woman from the video before they added Al's face in there, it's so funny seeing the woman doing all the dances and it's clear that she was having a blast recording this video.
Also Weird Al did a Parody of a Madonna song called "Like a Surgeon", you're gonna love it 😂
I think at the time there was a controversy of this song from Gaga sounding similar to Madonnas Express Yourself. So I think that's also part of why that's in the video. You even hear her say Express yourself in the video
Thank you for doing this one! I love it!
Now for "Trapped in the Drive Thru" like so many others have been saying.
Or for something completely different, check out "The Hamilton Polka"!
That is a great one! And yes, I hope he does all the Polka ones as well! Those ones are so fun, like taking a song or songs and playing with the universal dials on them. The Polkafication is an epic ride! ^_^
I love “The Hamilton Polka”!
Yeah, watch the interview. Worth it.
That’s one of my favs - still hilarious! 😂
The concert video of Al singing Germs is a must see.
The song is brilliant and his performance is incredible.
You're as ready as you can be for Albuquerque
You need to do Weird Al's "Dare to be Stupid." It's not a song parody, but a parody of the 80's band Devo. The video is hilarious.
If we keep recommending it, eventually it will come out on top.
I'm hoping we get him through the whole catalog! That will be a very joyous Playlist masterpiece when completed!
He is priceless!
Hey dude, your next Weird Al reaction has to be "Trapped In The Drive-Thru"! You are guaranteed to love it!
Weird al is always music to pull you outta a funk. Smile so hard watching his videos.
Funk to funky in seconds! 🎶 🎵
Really appreciate you bringing awareness to all the layoffs going on and the difficulties working people are facing. Really cool of you.
I truly hope you do all of Weird Al's songs.
😁
you need to do "I Love Rocky-Road" by Weird Al, a parody of I Love Rock'n'Roll by Joan Jett
He was the reason I first tried that ice cream! 🪨
@@thegamesage13 whoever came up with it needs a big reward!
Caught Al in concert a few years back in Dallas and he came out wearing the peacock costume when he did this song.
"Madonna" showing up in this video wasn't just because Gaga was inspired by some of her looks. "Born This Way" sounds similar to Madonna's "Express Yourself," thus "Madonna" popping up in Weird Al's version to sing a quick "express yourself."
How about the classic “Another One Rides the Bus” ?
I believe the women who appears as Madonna was the contortionist. The full body outfits like the turkey was all Al.
Gotta love it
He did his own songs : The Night Santa Went Crazy, Christmas at Ground zero, i love.
I love the Weird Al rabbit hole so much ❤. Gonna request these again: “Foil” (parody of “Royal”), “Trapped In the Drive Thru” (parody of “Trapped In the Closet” - its long but great!), and also “Stop Forwarding This Crap To Me” (a pastiche parody in the style of Jim Steinman/Meat Loaf). You just can’t go wrong with Weird Al!
Foil is one of My favs. And All About the Pentiums. Al's been around 46 years a d sometimes the humor is lost on the age group. But any gen x knows that song was fire bar after bar
@@Sleuth_Squad I also like the ebay song its even better than the original its a parody of want it that away by backstreet boys
I half listen to this channel just because of your outro. Thank you for caring for people.
I'm loving watching these W.A.Y. videos with you! Love & Peace!!!
I don't listen to Lady Gaga's music. But I do have to respect how she came to capture being the face of her own music.
another great reaction. And I second all the other votes for "Your Horoscope for Today," one of his funniest original songs.
been binge watching all videos I could find of you reacting to Al Yankovic because your videos make me smile.
thanks for the joy!
Too damn funny. Al is a genius. I really love Amish Paradise, Like A Surgeon and White & Nerdy too.
Okay, so the story of this song is basically the photo-negative of Amish Paradise. Al wrote this song and sent it to Lady Gaga's people to get her approval. They wrote back with an emphatic 'no.' Well, Al was disappointed, but he took it in stride and did what he usually does in these situations: he released it for free on his website and linked it to a charity the original artist supported, in this case an LGTBQ+ support group. Well, about 3 days later, Lady Gaga was at a party and saw a group of guests huddled around a laptop. One of them pulled her over and played Perform This Way for her. She LOVED it. She immediately had her agent get Al on the phone and asked him why he hadn't let her know he wanted to do the song. See, it turned out that her people hadn't even mentioned Al's interest to her, let alone gotten her response to his inquiry. She IMMEDIATLY granted her permission for Al to officially release it and they were able to get it on the Alpocalypse album with only a day to spare.
This song absolutely fucking slaps
I love his song Pancreas. I actually bought a small toy pancreas because of his song. It’s inspired by the Beach Boys I think
Glad you are back cliff!
I’d recommend any of his polka medleys, which combine like 10 current songs into a single polka-based song. A music time capsule - alternative polka brings you back to the early 90’s when you listen to it.
They are all fun-filled accordion arrangements of the most popular songs when the album it was on was released. They are not parodies, however, and only one was made into an animated video.
Great for the nostalgic time capsule experience.
The Hamilton Polka is AMAZING!
Ya gotta do Weird Al's Foil.
Enjoying the heck out of your reactions to Al's music videos! It's letting me revisit some I haven't seen in awhile, so much fun!
It's a good train to be on. ^_^
I love when something tickles you and you look like a kid that bit into a lemon
I am always looking forward to your videos!!
Great Video Reaction!🙂
I love this one. Polka face, Hamilton Polka and Trap in the drive thru are grat too :)
Weird Al - If that isn't love 🙂
At his live show he actually comes out in the octopus suit to sing this song.
Weird Al - Since you've been gone !!!!
One time in the 80s, Lady Gaga and Madonna had a mock fight on Saturday Night Live!
Glad you are coming back! 🤜 FXCK UA-cam ❤😂
My brain saw Fix UA-cam for a second! Maybe one day, the system can be more fully stabilized. 🤞
Cliff, you will not regret ''Trapped In The Drive-Thru'' - Weird Al. Trust us...
-And then he looked at me.. and then I looked at him...
And then he looked at Me..
And then I LOOked at HIm!
It is not a matter of if, it's when! He's gotta see it! ^_^
Very high up on the list of "Hot body, Weird Face" lol
Tacky is another great one!
What a great way to start Monday. As always love to see you experience the joy of Weird Al.
I wish there were more al for you to react to lol
Great video! You have to do Wolf Totem by the Hu!
Yay I knew you would get to it!😂😂😂😂 I'm going to really enjoy watching this one😂😂😂
There's a fan video for couch potato where the fan is dressed like weird al!
This video is perfect parody of Lady Gaga 🤣 you should do living with a hernia next by weird al. Song and video is hilarious.
The woman who keeps butting in is the actual woman Weird Al put his face on.
When I saw him perform this live he came out wearing the peacock suit for it.
Please 🙏 Trapped In The Drivethru next
You gotta do "Complicated Song" 😃🤣🤣🤣
Your reactions are priceless so this is going to be good.
I love the golden straitjacket scene!
I want that Mad Hatter train hat!
I saw a UA-cam video that had the original footage sde-by-side with the Wierd Al footage.
I love watching your reactions!!
The Saga Begins is my favourite
the madonna dig was due to gaga pulling a rob van winkle with two of madonna's songs
That was more than an attire shot at Madonna. If you notice, this song sounds an awful lot like Express Yourself, which is why the Madonna lookalike says that.
Please do Weird Al “foil”!!! And yes, the Eminem interview is a good laugh!!
Weird Al and Michael Jackson rules all music.
You need to check out Bedrock Anthem. Red Hot Chili Peppers cover…
The Mission Statement and CNR songs are also quite great, you should check them out too
That's too funny! He says in French : Excusez-moi, qui a pété? (S'cuse me, who farted?).
You should check out "Close but No Cigar"! It's a Cake pastiche (not a parody, but an original composition in their style) with a video animated by Jon K. (of "Ren & Stimpy" fame).
I don't know about you but even before everyone else noticed it when Lady Gaga first came out she reminded me of Madonna. But to be fair Madonna and Cyndi Lauper were my favorite singers when I was growing up😂😂
So funny!
Cliff, you might have to si down with a livestream of you watching Weird Al's movie UHF.
I may rewatch this on psilocybin next weekend.
Lol 😂 this was good😅
A little less known, "Yoda" parody of "Lola"
He looks good in a dress😂
During the pandemic Al posted his song Germs and I flipped out.
I'd love to see you flip out.
