It's a random Monday night at 1:47 AM on April 24th, 2023. I just wanted to say I still read everyone's new comments. Thanks for watching still. You're all awesome, and I hope everyone is doing okay. 🙂
Thanks for the video! Love it and it is interesting as a new-ish osrs player
Hope things are going alright for you ❤ this is a legendary documentary and I come back once or twice a year to reminisce.
Still watching every video once in a while, you put so much work into this and I love to watch your amazing work
I've been dealing with anxiety lately (due to some diet changes, nothing dangerous) and randomly found this video in my feed again. Completely melted the anxiety away and helped me get to sleep. Thanks for the video. I would love to see an update, maybe once we get Sailing! Big ask I know, this kind of video must take a ton of work.
Love your content man, I rewatch your videos all the time. It's great to see you uploading again!
Can’t even imagine how long this must have took to make. Thank you for bringing me back in time, so much love for this game
He's been busting his ass for months, i'm so glad he's finished
Thanks man. I really appreciate ya. 🙂 All the best!
Was honestly about to post the same, so many good memories.
Ayeeeeee Torv🔥🔥🔥

Cheers from one who grew up in a broken home, but got to live in a magical world. Thank you for making this incredible documentary. And thank you to Runescape for providing me sanctuary, lifelong friendships, countless hours of fun, and escape from a hellish beginning since '04. I'm lucky I got to grow up in Gilenor.
i’m glad it helped you so much. RS is a lot more than a game to many people. life long friendships form via RS and that game has always been relaxing.
Great comment man. Thanks a lot. :)
You are absolutely bang on, fantastic bro
Love this 🥲 I can relate
I couldn't have said it better. RS is like my hometown.
This game was my escape from reality as a kid struggling…RuneScape was my 2nd life basically..it helped me a lot.
hope you're life has improved, friend.
I guess that's why it's called Run Escape
Mark got so much hate back in the day but literally resigned because of MTX. The hero we didn't deserve
I wish I could go back and be a kid again. So many good memories. The local library stayed open 2 hours after closing just so we all could get together and play runescape.
Whoever ran that library is a bloody legend
@@teaandgames2269 yeah,, wouldnt happen here
Let's all meet up at a library and order pizza, while wearing our home made partyhat and skillcapes irl, and play RuneScape boys.
Did i just step into a looking glass mirror? Me and my friends used to do the same thing lol
Bro, back in the day we would all go to the library and play from open to close, our local library actually added an entire adult section and 2 hour limit because of us. I miss those days so much.
You deserve to be imortalized in the Varrock Museum for creating this historical informative video essay; as a player in 2001~ at the age of 5, now playing since 2019~, there's is almost literally no collected information developed between when I stopped playing in around 2005 (because it was "not cool") and now. Between "Best in slot" gear and huge milestones I have to earn in order to "play the game" I've felt lost as a "new" player and this video really helps someone learn the game literally from the ground up.
Bravo!
That's one of the best comments I've ever received and what I've always hoped videos like these can do for players new and old, returning or still here. Thanks a lot my friend. 🙂
I've played this game since I was 12 (currently 27). Idk why but I almost cried numerous times while watching this video, it just brought back so many memories of my childhood and teenage years, to early and later college times. I remember when so many of the things mentioned in the video actually occurred in real life and I could also think about what all was going on in my personal life at the same time. Imo, this is the best overall game ever made. I have learned so many things from it over the years I have played, and enjoyed every second of it. It is definitely a big part of what has made me who I am today. Was my second time watching this vid just btw 🙂✌
You aren't alone, there are so many people that enjoyed this game for a long time!
🏳️🌈?
Same bro, i’m 25 now, i miss my childhood
I'm also 27 and have played rs since 2007, i feel the exact same way. it brings back so many memories
I am a grown man and I have never almost cried over a game that I played as a kid, because, of course, I am a grown man.
Being a f2p noob back in 2006, with my friend in the computer lab at school, was definitely one of the highlights of my childhood. Those times just don't come back but this video brought all that back and, I won't lie, made me a little emotional.
Joined in 05 and you're right was amazing times
Yeah, I can't believe I remember all those holiday events pretty vividly
That hard disk copy of 2007scape was the most consequential thing Jagex ever did.
We had no idea how lucky we were to get OSRS. Now it's lost to rs3 style updates and updates to promote people playing on their own instead of friends.
@@SAGGING_GUT I'm glad to see someone with the same views as mine. Soul wars, shooting stars, neither of those belong in osrs. And don't even get me started on the ezscape that is tempoross (80k xp/hr?!). :/ also, jagex has been ramping up the frequency and severity of unpolled updates, including content which has nothing to do with game integrity. And that's furthering the feeling of osrs turning into rs3. If you're interested in a video discussing the dangers of unpolled updates including the blowpipe/dhide nerfs, I'll be uploading a video about it on my osrs channel De_Void in a couple weeks.
@@trumpatier 80k xp/hr isn't insane at 90-99 fishing plus this skill is so fucking boring to train so whatever. Soul wars was unnecessary but not adding new content to the game will eventually kill it. I mean imagine the game without CoX or Tob. I hate it when people vote no to everything new without considering it first. Osrs is dying right now due to the lack of new PvM content like raids 3 for example
@@yazan774 osrs is not dying lmao. It's been setting new records. I'm tired of people voting yes to everything because it benefits them, without thinking of the long term consequences. And yes, 80k fishing xp/hr is pretty insane for a non click-intensive method.
@@trumpatier someone needs to make a late 2004scape and keep it that way
That was a ride and a 1/2. I stopped playing runescape in 2008 when I was a kid. Recently got back into OSRS, and wanted to catch up on everything I missed. Little did I knowI checked through one of the coolest documentaries if I've ever seen.
Let’s make a clan for returning players like us
@@ChuckiePdid you ever do this?
Makes me feel like I’m 6 years old again, sneaking into the computer room late at night to play RuneScape while I should be sleeping for school. Thank you for the nostalgia trip!
i loved the computer room haha! my dad would leave for work at 5:30am, and i'd start school 5th grade up the street at 9am... but i'd set my alarm for 5:35am so i could play for hours before school without my dad thinking i'm insane
hope the new player guide give the new player a godly weapon and slain a king black dragon scene, give the new player godly hammer to smith top tier weapon, make a potion give 50% attk, defense, strength, staff of destruction one hit black king dragon, arrow of death one shot everything, all the top tier skills of the game, and the grand exchange. then poof everything is gone. it is all just a dream now new hero start from lvl 1 with junk weapon and 1 last drink potion, and food start on the destination to the top. puff you are now teleport to lumbdrige. lol
Could not imagine how long this took but thank you for the memories and we miss you mote plox, We ALL hope you have been doing good and staying safe and healthy
Thanks Kobi. I hope the same for you. Glad you enjoyed. 🙂
Great vid Mote plox
And Kobi let's play apex together 😂
Legit though add me in game ! Onlyfans-PsyTim im actually not a bot hahah
Hope all is good with you as well Kobi, Apex goat!

"some players still cant kill jad today"
*cries*
Practice against one Jad in the new 6 Jad minigame until you can defeat it. The hardest part about getting a fire cape is not panicking when you get to the final wave
@@katepriest346 Does it have the healers? Because that's what gets me.
@@TheRealerArbor Yeah it does. Just focus on slowly getting the healers to attack you one at a time. They do barely any damage, and it's better to let them get a few heals on Jad than miss a prayer
;_;
@@katepriest346 but you can’t do even 1 jad challenge until you have defeated the fight caves LOL to do rounds 1/2 u need fire cape
You have no idea what this video means to me. Thanks for making this, the game is a fundamental part of my life & always will be. This filled me with a lot of emotions, I've been playing since I was like 8 years old and I'm 25 now. Lots of memories, even more friends, and hours of fun. Grateful runescape exists!
This channel showed me one of my fav childhood games and I can't thank you enough for that mote plox ❤. I have been watching you for 8 years now ever since I was 12. I hope you know how much you mean to so many people in the runescape community👑👑
Really appreciate that man. :) Thanks for being here for such a long time!
@MotePlox I'm geeking out that you replied haha :) I'm starting a podcast and I have a few guests lined up and id love to talk to you
The first time you were able able get the ru results😮 e

Runescape was always a terrible game but for some reasons it was a total success !!
what an amazing retrospective!
Thanks man. 😊 Glad you enjoyed it! Always love how you use the RuneScape font in your thumbnails. Great videos!
You play Ironman TierZoo?
@@Hiedzie1 hes got too
Aaayyyye good man
okay but what if tierzoo uploaded a runescape vid for april fools
Best video of 2021. Nothing will top this. Jagex hand him the golden gnome early.
Hey man, I know this video is your most popular and it's been around for a while but just wanted to say, thank you for putting the amount of effort into this that you have. As someone who's just jumped back into OSRS, this video filled me with so much nostalgia and it was bloody amazing. Good to see you're pumping more content out there too, you've got my sub!
I started back in 2005 - the ending of your video struck me. Since 2005 I have indeed come back when life has been so stressful and hard to take. RuneScape has seen me through some incredibly dark times, and I didn't even realise until I heard you mention it.
Thanks RuneScape!
Such an incredible video, great job on this :)

Damn seeing logdotzip is an even bigger blast from the past than this video

What an amazing job done. The outro was so perfectly said and touched many of our hearts. This honestly made me realize what a big part of my life OSRS has been and how awesome the community is.
This one of the most well put together videos ive seen in such a long time. Great work Mote Plox, love your content!
I legitimately never knew the reason for that memorial hill in the wilderness, I’ve been wondering for more than 10 years who or what that was for, and now I finally know that it was to memorialize a dedicated and loved player. Awesome video, man
It's false, the statue was in the game two years prior to The Old Nite's death.
My friend told me about it back before it happened , he used to talk about how much of a legend The Old Nite was , funny how my 12 year old buddy knew this and wasent even a hardcore player, his cousin was and he probably heard of it from someone in game , nevertheless that was such a good time in RuneScapes history , and I always pay homage to that statue when passing it in the wildly lol.
!!!!!!!
That pub in the wildy at ferox (or however you spell it) They ended up dedicating the name for that player. The statue is female in rs3. Would have been amazing if memorial Hill was dedicated to that player though
@@brandonmcgillis well, let's be real, sometimes statues with vague figures are appropriated by people who recognized a real hero (even if they only ever played the video game) The Old Nite was apparently nice to everyone he spoke with.
It would seem that the statue prveiously deidcated to someone or some piece of lore was retroactively coopted by the players to remember The Old Nite. Legendary.
Mote plox is the only UA-camr i disable adblock for. He's like that best friend you only see once a year, but when you do see him you always have a great time
I really appreciate you Perseus. :) Glad you enjoyed!
@@MotePlox We all appreciate you bro. You've got a lot of talent when it comes to making videos and you got me back into Runescape. Hope you & your family are doing well and staying safe!
Lmao
That monologue at the end actually gave me tears. I used to play a lot in runescape classic and RS2, started in 2001 (9 years old), i remember some of the events shown here. i played until about 2006, mostly in RS2 when it was released. Stopped playing for a long time, but returned every now and then after OSRS was released. this year's january i started my current account, and i never stopped playing since. thank you for the memories! Awesome video!
As an on and off player since November 03, thank you so much for making this. This was a complete walk down memory lane that's irreplaceable. People don't often understand why when I say how important Runescape is and was to me because it taught me most everything I know about macro economics, stocks, programming, and the human condition. Growing up with the childhood and parents I had it was instrumental in forming the person I would eventually become since it was near impossible to develop real world relationships. I listened to most of this video with my fiancee and broke it all down for her too. She played for like 1 year but never got into it like I did. That's enough rambling though, thanks again for putting this effort in and making a solid tour of the timeline that I can share with my old rs friends.
I can relate to a lot of this
Andrew, Paul, and Ian have such supportive parents.
It's so true, my alcoholic father always hated video games but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying thing myself. No matter what I did I was wrong, always put your kids passions first because inspiration goes a long way
yay
The fact that you have actual footage of infamous and notable events is insane. Wow amazing video dude !!! 🤘
RuneScape has been such a major part of my upbringing. I've played the game since 7th grade in 2004, and play to this day (RS3). I listen to this video every couple months while skilling for the nostalgia, and it also calms me down when I do.
Thank you for making this!
I have watched every second of this. At multiple times with tears in my eyes. The past year has been a nightmare for my social life and emotional well-being. I started playing in 2003 and quit in 2013 with short periods of me returning over the last years on oldschool. In the past year oldschool has brought me tremendous pleasure and reliving of feelings from the past. Its amazing howmuch something like a video game can do for a person..
Sorry times have been tough lately DutchClawz! Having a look back at the past is great, but always try to keep moving forward. :)
love you bro
YOOOOO MOTE UPLOADED EVERYONE GET IN HERE
Thanks Adam. :D
not even mentioning the huge nostalgia youve brought me, im jus glad to have a comprehensive timeline of updates up until 2020. it fills in the gaps of the years i didnt play as i come back now. thanks for all your wonderful work, king
The absolute BEST RS video to exist in the world. Simply amazing. Thank you so much for putting this together
It's so crazy that we live in an age where the literal creators of the game have to resign because the game is no longer in their control. Always makes me sad hearing the story, but at the same time happy that they kept their integrity.
Ain't no integrity left when the first version of your game is erased by the people you sold it to
Do they receive retirement or backend percentages on profits still? If not then that was a huge mistake
@@LinguisticSugar are you talking about classic being closed for good?
@@levonschaftin3676 exactly
@@LinguisticSugar yeah, scumbag move that was. I miss that game so much.
Runescape, specifically osrs, gives me a huge sense of calm when I grind for stuff, for example, right now I'm farming pure essence, extremely simple task, repetitive and boring for most of you... but meanwhile I do it, I think of my life, my business, my job, my wife and kids... gives me a very weird head space where I can regroup myself and follow a plan.
Some of you play with the max optimization, some of us just like grinding :) what ever you like, thanks for playing and keeping this game alive!
Grinding in runescape can be sort of a form of meditation.
I find that too, skills are boring. But are needed even for the best PKErs I have to do hunter rn.. god it's boring. But it'll be so worth it
Dude I agree , it’s therapeutic
@Michael been a while since I play, how do you get Pure essence for runecrafting then?
Try
This has got to be de best documentary I’ve ever watched. I remember and can relate to so many things. Also learned a lot. I started playing before the time that cows received their new texture. I’ve never thought of it, but when you mentioned it, I rembered.
Thank you for all the effort and taking the time to make this. You’re the real MVP.
Genuinely appreciate this video. Definitely the LONGEST UA-cam video I've watched. My first time playing runescape was back in 2003 before the over haul. Stopped when summoning came out and came back in 2018.
The community as a whole appreciate this video. ❤️
The return of the king
I was about to complain you quit rs3, turns out I forgot to sub lol
was actually thinking this !! misses you motie
Thank you Hanannie. :)
Lord of the mote plox
My queen?
Think Jagex's biggest Guinness world record is still 'piss off your entire community in the least amount of time'.
To me, the relationship between Jagex and the community is like that relationship between a boyfriend and a girlfriend, when the girlfriend doesn't know what she wants to eat and no matter what Jagex orders, she is still pissed off because it's not what she wanted 😂😂
Poor leadership
Great video bro! I’ve watched/listened to this several times and it never disappoints. So many interesting facts and it always takes me back to when I first started playing
Beautifully made! I would love to see a continuation of this in 2025 for the 2020-2025 period and every 5 years after. Cause, let’s be honest, everyone always comes back to RS. No matter how old we get or how long it’s been since we’ve played, you never truly quit. It’s more than just a game, it’s become our home.
I've been playing this game for just about 15 years now, all I can say is that the emotions I felt watching this are indescribable. Playing osrs itself is very nostalgic but seeing the old videos and hearing about events that happened back in the day was amazing. I cannot thank you enough for the effort and time you put into making this. Glad to see you are back and I hope you and your family are doing well.
Very similar time line here. 14-15 years off and on here
Omg you’re just the right person to ask these questions.
I played it more than 15 years ago but have never logged in since I quit.
Is Zezima still number one? 😄
Are Dragon Masks still worth 300k?
Can you still swap scam people by trading? 🤣
Does the NPC still shout „Senventior Disthine Molenko“?
Can you finally copy paste stuff into the chat or do people still use chatbots to sell their stuff in World 1 by the left bank in Varrock? 🤣
Is there even something like that anymore? 🥹
this video is honestly incredible. being a runescape player since 2003 this video brought back memories I forgot I even had. and really made me realize how much of my life I have wasted on this game lmao! Bravo Mote plox this is one of your best videos yet!
And that's just a solid fact!
Thanks for watching brother. Always love your videos. They always make me laugh. XD
That's it? Wow.. are we grateful? No, we want more
Wow!!!!
Thanks so much for putting this together, the sheer amount of nostalgia is insane!
Just got back into the game, man this was soooo WELLLL made you had me interested the whole 2 hours and 30, actually afk hellhounds rn at work haha, been playing since 2008 and the nostalgia in this hit different. Great job.

some people hated the new combat system then just quit during the eoc which imo wasn’t even that bad lol
@@azureandnoir3274 it was pretty bad when it first came out imo. Nowadays, they polished it a lot. But back when it came out in 2010, it was one of the worse things to happen to runescape considering that the game was very much thriving just the way it was.

This is a video is simply one of the best documentaries of a video game ever.
This is a love letter, not a documentary. Other then the tone shift while discussing the squeal/solomons additions, you can definately feel the true passion put into this project. Thank you mote, looking forward to seeing what else you have in the works.

@@goldieberetta I have another channel with around 195K subscribers that I don't really post on anymore. I might in the future, but it's up in the air. The name of it is called "The Top Tens" if you'd like to check that out. Really appreciate you Goldie. :)
This video was an emotional roller coaster. I started playing RuneScape just over 13 years ago, I'm currently 23 years old. The game has been a major part of my life and I don't regret that one bit. Amazing video!
nice man! I started in kindergarden when I was 6, been playing it every year for holiday items, made so many accounts now due to losing mains, 27 now. imagine playing runescape for 21 years. lol.
@@thelilyoposhow8834 Wait...You were still in kindergarten at 6?? were you held back a few years? :-)))
@@uhtred7860 nah, our school system was just different. I didn't start kindergarten at 5, 3 to 5 was preschool, then a year break and I was six when I started kindergarten
@@thelilyoposhow8834 Wow. Kids start Kindergarten at 3 here, then school as soon as they turn 5.
@@uhtred7860 Jesus. A 5 year old in grade one or 2? That's insane to me lol
Rest easy club penguin never forget 🙌
I usually don't comment on videos. But you sir are a legend for making this video. Thank you for all the dedication!
Not sure if I commented on here before, but I very often(weekly) put this on while I sleep and have done for the last year, love the nostalgia I get thanks for this master piece
Ah yes, the nostalgia trip I needed :) Great video!
Thanks Psivewri. :) I appreciate ya.
@Mote Plox k
I started playing Runescape in 2009 when it was "Runescape 2" about a year or so before Dunegoneering was released. I am now 23 years old and listening to this video while painting my wooden fence in my garden in my apartment that I bought. Real life carries on as you get older but the child within you never fully goes away.
Too bad you missed the real years of RuneScape, which were 2005-2007, it got ruined after the end of 2007.
Such a well-done video! Nostalgia to the max. Thanks a lot for making this.
I have come back and watched this video about 3 times over the last 3 years and every time it eats me up inside. It is truly the best video ever made of our beloved game and thank you so much for keeping this masterpiece rolling. The amount of research put into this and the detail provided is profound. Thank you so much. ❤
I miss the 2004-2007 era everything was great. No GE, Pking was fun, bossing was fun...
The G.E really hurt the game. I loved Merching and interacting with all the players
Hoping for 04scape!
Greats times forsure
Got so many memories from this video
@@bostonnate4024 ah yes, good old merching, when shills tried to swap rare items with logs in trade screen
A+ Mote Plox a little timeline myself I’m older now but me and my wife still play osrs and our eight year old son also started. A new time and generation begins.
That's beautiful man. :) Thanks for watching.
This was such an amazing video, thank you for this! 2.5 hours of pure awesomeness ❤️
I have watched this like a million times. Thanks for making it!
"He knew he couldn't just ignore customer service emails if they were going to start charging for the game"
So, that was a fucking lie.
LOL. XD
well well well, greetings enemy
Yes it’s done!!! Been waiting on this for almost a year! Much love Mote welcome back and you dropped this at the GE on accident 👑
Love ya Josh! 😂 Thanks brother! 🙂
ngl would be rad asf if mote came back to osrs, and joined us in Tan Tan :D haha!
Just watched the entire thing in one go, and I just wanted to say thank you for making this video! As a new player who just started the game this week, this video really explains a lot of what I'm seeing in the game and it's really interesting to also learn how the game and community has evolved through the years. Great job!
This was amazing! Thank you! Hope there will be an updated one in the next couple years
Haven't played runescape in well over a decade. But it's still a big part of my life I always watch video on UA-cam.. this is so great so many feels thanks mote
Yes no other game had so much of my time than RuneScape. My gaming before and after RuneScape has totally changed. I was not a gamer after I was done with RuneScape back in 2000-2005. Many rage quit, frustrating game changes and deleting all my characters at random time I would never play again. I was aware they updated the graphics (now it’s called old school RuneScape or classic). It’s not the same game I used to be obsessed with.
You need to play again its mad fun
hop on bro it’s so fire try mobile !
OSRS has a mobile client now. That's how I got back in to it
@getoffthetip6748 I downloaded it not long after I made this comment. Accumulated 8 days play time over about 2 months hahaha I was on it quite abit. Took a break been on and off last 6 months. Still f2p got all stats over 60 just grinding mining which is soul draining. Once I get 60 mining off to members!! Can't wait!!!
25 years old and wow I’m at my seat like I’m 11 again man have you hit some nerves. This video was beautiful, it’s like I traveled back almost. I’ve had-almost nothing constant in my life except RuneScape. It brings me so much joy, and almost like A sense of security and yet I’m still clowned for playing this game until this day lol - I know only other RS’ers understand but this game really is something special. I’m glad it survived and thrived as it did. It deserved it.
Have watchied this quite a few times, incredible effort to put together all this history and have all the screenshots and older videos of versions of the game. You sir are a legend and thankyou :)
I played this game since 2004 and always get the nostalgic feel to go back to this game once in a while, it never gets old. Your video's helped me bring that sense of my childhood memories back to me. Keep in mind Whenever a bad comment comes your way to always think of the reason that you are making the video's, for the people that will love your video's, keep up the good work👍
I’ve watched this so many times. I just play it in my headphones while working from home. It soothes me and I’m flooded with nostalgia
2012 Was really the end of the original RS feel you got. I remember playing all the way from 2004-2008 and then on and off after that up to EOC.
The golden era was for sure 2005-2008 Legends where made like Zezima. I still remember some of my friends from world 7 top left of Varrock square even though I've not seen them since that. Cola turk michaelababe Rich and many more!
Runescape Truly is a phenomenal game to play. So thank you to the Gower brothers (especially Andrew) for making what essentially was their childhood imagination into a reality I'll never forget anything about Runescape in my life even if its 50 years down the line. I could picture these cities and areas better then I can my own city I live in. Great video and outro, Learned so much I had not known about Runescape history.
2005-2007*
Wow. This brought me waaay back. So many memories!!! Thank you! Well done.
Watching the 2012 portion of the video reminded me why I pretty much stopped playing that year, lmao what an absolute joke that year was. Absolutely beautiful to see how OSRS has evolved over the years though
