I read every single dialogue box of every quest in OSRS on my main. Some of the quests are boring but I think most are pretty good. It is nothing too serious most of the time, but the lighthearted and humoristic way they tell the stories and introduce you to the lore is very entertaining and I think questing is one of the best parts of the game alongside bossing/raiding.

100% agree, the lore is honestly getting better, especially with Grandmaster quests but even the newer ones, i hope they keep at it, and honestly i love the questing cause the rewards are insane compared to 99% of other mmos out there. Other games are just “talk to X” “kill X creature 10 times” until you reach endgame where youve done that for about 30 hours repeatedly

The best way to enjoy RS3, I think, is as an ironman. Account progression is satisfying and attainable for just about all play-styles and you don't have to worry about treasure hunter. And regarding community, most players either find it in a clan or socialize in more heavily-trafficked areas. War's Retreat is usually pretty bumping. And with the new Fort Forinthry update, there's likely to be a lot of players there at all times.

My answer to this question is the same one I've had for years; I genuinely believe that if you enjoy one of these games, you will enjoy the other one too if you just give it a chance. The games have a lot of shared DNA, but are enjoyable for different reasons. In OSRS the grinds can feel more rewarding mentally but in RS3 the rewards are much more tangible. A great example is Sins of the Father vs. Lord of Vampyrium. In both of these quests, you unlock Darkmeyer and a weapon that whoops some vyrewatch ass, but in OSRS the best reward for doing so is a blood shard which requires an amulet of fury to even do anything with. In RS3's Darkmeyer, you unlock one of the best methods for training prayer and combat in the game for ironmen which is also 100% afk, gives enough supplies to replace all of the super restores you use during the method and still profit on them, and on top of all of this gives decent firemaking xp as well. Completing quests in OSRS feels good because you completed the quest, completing quests in RS3 feels good because you get some bomb ass rewards.

    • @christ8048
      @christ8048 Рік тому +4

Im sorry but your assessment of reward in osrs is lacking. Unlocking darkmeyer in osrs opens the path not only to great combat xp, which can make you a great amount of money via said blood shards, but also some of the highest gp per hour money per skill via thieving and agility, with the hallowed sepulcher also being the highest xp rates for agility in the game. It's not nearly as flat as "you can get a blood shard that you cant do anything with" and your comment reeks of bias.

I actually learned last month that Guild Wars 1 not only still is playable through Arena net, they also sorta "upscaled" the game to work with current gen graphic cards, added 4k resolution and greatly increased the render distance.
So I decided to give it a shot.
Miraculously, my Arena net account that I made back in 2006 was still there. I got a new password and bought the "all of the dlc content" bundle box for like 20 dollars or something. I briefly scimmed through a new player (speedrunner) guide on the best class and story to get OP as quickly as possible and away I went.
Its pretty fun, but Guild Wars isn't like other MMOs where you see players everywhere. You only see players in the main town areas, and there are several channels like runescape worlds, and each channel has a cap on how many players can be in there. But when you are out in the field where all the quests and monsters are, you're either solo or with whoever is in your group.
What was shocking was the fact that Guild Wars still has a very healthy player economy, with trading, cosmetics and everything else. I can't believe a game this old that hasn't had a major update in over a decade still has so many players playing.
While I didn't continue playing it, i'd say its worth the 20 dollars to explore the game and get to enjoy some real good internet gaming history.
I played a lot of different MMOs over the years. But runescape is the MMO that I always come back to. I still pay $4.99/mo to this day.

GW1 was the first MMO I played. And I also tried to come back to it a few years ago. And nope it wasn't just nostalgia, they way the gameplay of GW1 works is just so different of any other MMO out there it still feels fresh. Sure the movement feels clunky compared to new stuff but the dual class system with only 8 slots makes such rewarding gameplay sandbox I love.
I tried GW2 but the gameplay is really different, has nearly nothing to do with GW1.
Besides some fun with classic WoW or before that private WoW Servers I didn't found any MMO that hooks me.

At the peak I was the "CEO" of a manufacturing corporation with 112 players. I was never actually any good at the game, but thanks to my disabilities I had the time and motivation to plan logistics and was almost always available to quell issues and manage relations with rivals and allies.
Ended up earning enough trust to get tipped off that an internal power struggle was coming thanks to the integration of a Russian mining corp into our chain of operation, and I liquidated nearly everything silently over a week long period of when many players had IRL obligations with finals.
I made about 5K USD, used that to help solidify my hold after emigrating to the USA, and to this day I cannot leave Jita due to the amount of still active players willing to sui*ide gank me.

With OSRS you should treat it as a lifelong adventure. That may not sound appealing, but I've seriously been playing off and on for years, and to see how far I've come is really heartwarming. While RS3 might give you that immediate dive into end game, you'll lose out on that sense of progression. It's similar with WoW nowadays, where in Classic it took 100s of hours to reach end game, but in retail it takes one session. I am more connected to my WoW Classic character than I am my WoW Retail one for this very reason. I can remember all the little moments and things that happened, areas I explored, but in Retail WoW it feels like a blur of constant shit. RS3 feels that exact same way to me.
Also if you play OSRS on phone, you can easily get 99 woodcutting, fishing, or 99 in bank standing skills, all while you're out at work, on break, etc. Even if it is the slowest methods, you won't really care as long as you reach your goals.

I personally highly recommend both games. Since you're already deep in the world of osrs, starting an ironman on RS3 wouldn't be as daunting. The first big chunk of quests is mostly the same as oldschool's, but once you get to a quest called While Guthix Sleeps, it fully moves into the modern storyline of RS3. And I love the lore in RS3, and if you love lore then you should immediately try digging into Archaeology in RS3 if you try it out.
I played RS3 up until the day group ironman came out in osrs, me and some good friends have been going hard on that since it came out, and I haven't looked back yet. But lately I have been craving starting an ironman on RS3 to play through the game as it is today.

RS3 just went down the route of neglecting everything but end game content, while OSRS adds a lot of content that is irrelevant for the end game. Like the Ruins of Camdozaal.

The high XP rates aren't a strict negative, even though they're a thing many OS players like to bash them for ruining the "accomplishment" of someone who gained 99s 10 years ago. High xp rates lower the barrier of entry
If you want to get into OSRS bossing you need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your combat skills before that.
If you want to slay some low to mid level bosses in RS3, you can take a fresh account and level it up enough in one evening.
I actually asked an OSRS mate of mine to try out RS3, we leveled up his account for an evening in ED3 and went to some entry level bosses the next. It was fun but he decided RS3 wasn't his thing which I respected. Nevertheless, that wouldn't have been possible on OS xp rates

I like that it feels like rs3 actually respects my time in comparison to osrs. The grinds in rs3 are still insane and give a lot to look forward to unless you play 8+ hrs a day for a few years.
The PVM experience in rs3 is phenomenal, and if you can get over the initial aversion, feels great to play

On the achievements and buying capes, I think at least for me even though im not on an ironman my achievements became more personal. I have spent money on mtx but that was only for bank expansions and cosmetic sets never on keys. So when i get a 99 or any other achievement me and my clan have a little celebration, on top of that a lot of accounts on rs3 are older accounts or long term players so 99's become more meaningless on a time frame where high end players push for 200m xp and skills get upgraded to have content up to 120. Overall solid video though.

I can tell you how it feels to see lumbridge for the first time. I have a photographic memory and certain memories or moments in my life which held great significance to me, have an even greater range of memory for the event. I remember exactly the I finally convinced my parents to let me play the game everyone was playing. RuneScape! The year was 2007 and it was a cloudy day on spring break of fourth grade. I sat down and played through the tutorial island with the advice my friends gave me in mind. I was full of excitement and curiosity, every click of the mouse and every word of dialogue pulled me deeper into the world I had heard so much about. Then, as I clicked the final stroke of the mouse button and witnessed my character teleport in that old pixelated animation with the whir and whistle of the magical audio…. I saw it. A castle with gray walls of stone surrounding me, people with strange clothes and dances hollering in the grounds and streets. I took a moment to look around and felt something different than before on tutorial island. It wasn’t the anxious feeling of impatience and excitement. It was a feeling of awe, wonder, truly I was stunned in silence, by the time I had finished simply exploring and observing this incredible place called Lumbridge, I looked to the clock and saw that I had spent the entire 7 hours left of daylight just wandering around a fantasy town. That very moment, I knew that I would play this game for the rest of my life. I’m 26 years old now, divorced, father of 3. My son started his first account yesterday, the looks on his face, the silence (he’s never quiet), I saw the same things in him. Thanks for being so awesome, this story is my gift back to you for the incredible content!

I was f2p back then, but I finished every f2p quest. I logged in last night and I still have full Rune (and scimmy), fancy boots, an anti-dragon shield, and the food my classmate gave me for Elvarg. Dark Age of Camelot I started in 2003. was just an insane game, came out alongside wow and was essentially the same game but slightly different premise. I stopped around 2007 and returned in 2017 and they had essentially streamlined the leveling process because its main focus was pvp. so the equivalent being pking being the only thing keeping runescape alive, so they streamlined the xp rates so everyone could max in less than a week, and the only focus of the game was pvp or high end pvm for BIS gear. was kinda crazy experience coming back and seeing players that never stopped playing from 2001. Most people that play runescape would have loved Dark Age, it just required fairly high end spec pc and a large download with higher monthly subscription fee. Dark Age also mirrored runescape where they had one expansion that decimated the playerbase called "Trial of Atlantis". was the equivalent of EoC update. Playerbase plummeted overnight. Fun looking back and seeing the parallel between the only two games I played growing up.

They chose the "300 million players" tagline mainly for RS3 because despite what it is now, that is the version of the game that has existed, and/or evolved since classic. The OG players accounts are still there and intact, and so are the old items, and things like vet capes and untradable event items that make players feel special for being there from the beginning.
OSRS has a more active and engaged player base for sure, they also have more bots for sure.
Despite RS3 having a lot of issues, it is more accessible and the more modern paint job is more attractive to new players. Players who care about their original accounts and "prestige" or whatever you want to call it, prefer RS3. New players are more likely to be drawn into RS3 because it is not nearly as grindy/time sink, and looks better, and has a more familiar, modern "ability bar" (but IMO an inferior) combat system.
The vast majority of people playing OSRS, are people who played back in the day, and have huge nostalgia, but never acquired or don't care about the legacy items or account cosmetics etc that "main game" players hang onto.
New players are much less likely to be drawn to OSRS, even simple things like walking everywhere with limited run energy, compared to lodestones, practically unlimited run energy etc QOL that RS3 provides.
OSRS players are one of two mindsets. 1. People who correctly recognise that RS3 is barely RuneScape anymore, and they want the old and unique experience they had when they were a kid. 2. People who genuinely love the grind, the game isn't objectively more difficult, in fact of end game PvM RS3 is objectively harder. But things like 99's skills, maxing accounts, diaries, questing etc while mechanically simple, are difficult through being tedious and time gated. The challenge (at least in PvE and account progression, PVP is a different beast.) isn't generally in things like quick reactions or physically demanding mechanical skill, the difficulty is in the players own mind, their endurance and fortitude, their battle against monotony, entropy, or bad RNG, that feeling you get when you finally reach a goal, or obtain a rare drop, that you have spent hundreds of hours grinding for, that dopamine burst, that validation that you rode out the grind, refused to quit, powered through until you succeeded. That is a feeling that is missing in a lot of games these days.
But RS3 is the game where people who started playing in 2001 can flex their "veteran capes" and their discontinued items, the whole 300 million accounts marketing push had two targets. 1. The original players, from classic or RS2, as a flex of longevity rather than popularity. 2. A grab for new players, a disingenuous but technically true statement to create a facade of popularity and activity, to draw in new people.

Ahhh yes, i remember having to decide between the two. The thought of having to start over just to experience osrs was out of the question for me. The rs3 combat system was dog shi, now its not so bad, but I still hate it because its overly complex. Understanding different abilities and figuring out when to use what, and what works well with what. You do these things on top of prayer flicking and increasingly you need to switch items your wearing. Looking back on it. I'm glad I went with rs3, I have a life, spending 6 hours everyday chopping trees is done, those days are done. Thinking back on it Im not sure how I didn't lose my mind doing the same thing for so long. Fishing mining etc. Maybe It was because I was young and had a lot of free time, maybe it was because I had others to play with, idk, but never again.
Rs3 just makes my life easier, I have my old account, and if I want to spend like 2 hours doing one thing I can. But I also get a few lamps to boost my way alittle from treasure hunter sometimes. Idk i think because I play solo, I don't get validation from having others look at my stats in awe. However alot of RS is based on that, the titles and capes that you receive etc. Thats nice if your into that. I had a friend who felt so disgusted that anyone would play anything other than osrs. And it really is a large collective mindset. People who've spent thousands of hours feel highly invested and want others to invest the same, and if they don't its a sin. In short I'm glad the game split, no matter how you intend to play there is a place for you.

@@Onarca I made it through 5 minutes of the video (on 1.5 speed) before commenting and saying it was a great video. You don’t need to watch an entire video to know it’s a good one.

@@RuneScapeRabbi It is a great video, but that's disingenuous to call it that after watching less than 20% of the video in the name of farming likes. :\

@@Onarca I commented it basically immediately after he said he doesn’t want to play another MMO. It was witty, honest, got my attention and deserved an honest response. I’m sorry if you feel I’m being disingenuous, but it was a good video and I’m gonna leave it at that.
