This was absolutely fantastic! I started playing shortly after this event, and I honestly didn’t know the majority of this information! The real reason it happened was pretty fascinating to learn about too, along with the route Durial took that day. Really solid investigating!
Do you still play Runescape at all? I know it's been many years since you've uploaded it but I'm curious as to if you ever play it in your free time these days.
this is really an ode to how raw runescape really was. being a young kid on this game exposed you to armor trimming scams, players emoting as female characters for gp in varrock square, and losing everything you worked so hard for to a boss or if you were unlucky enough... this bug. the golden era was really the trenches and im sure most of us can agree that we learned a lot of life lessons early on due to the nature of this game. thank you for all the research you put in this video could not be any better!
on the other hand, it was a way better community. People just hanging out, having drop parties for no reason, playing the game as intended. Asking to see qpc or rc emotes because they were so cool and it was a BIG deal to have them. Nowadays you can be maxed and worth 11 digits and still be nobody. One of my fondest memories from way back was somebody giving me a guthix skirt out of the blue. It was no small gift (at least on a free world), worth way more than anything I had. I think I lost it in the wilderness and was devastated. Simpler times
Inflation of expectations. Back in the years you really didn't care, you just wanted to have fun. Now first what you do is most likely checking for most efficient build and A-Z walkthrough guide.
I was one of those boys who made a female character for free stuff. What's insane is just how profitable it actually was. I got full rune once for doing the bow emote a bunch and that was back when rune was amazing.
i was convinced into account switching with a random as an innocent 8 year old had to head to school and he wouldn’t get off my account. came back in the afternoon and all my stuff was gone i learnt a valuable lesson that day😂
I started playing RS in 2004 and consider myself lucky I was able to play during the Golden Age. Having my closest friends "sleep over" so we could do pk trips on our mini-pures while playing together in the same vicinity will always be my favorite memory. The nostalgia from watching this video is honestly bitter-sweet, but Runescape will always hold a special place in my heart even though I haven't played in years.
I vividly remember being at my cousins on that fateful day... thankfully, i was enjoying some quality time with family but I remember getting home and logging on and EVERYONE was talking about this on EVERY world you went to... insane memories and still one of the fondest I have even without being there!
I love how you've added in Osrs characters in the current Rs3 world but kind of faded.. it just screams history and brings back so many memories from childhood. Absolute masterpiece of a video!
This was literally one of the most enjoyable RS video's I have ever seen. I love how you pieced together the branching storylines that run parallel to one another.
I'm hyped the event's history will forever be preserved in this time capsule of a video. To anyone else watching this on 6/6 with me, happy anniversary!

The use of the Extinction music when discussing 2006 events was beautiful, truly something only Will seems to do. Absolutely epic. Decades from now this will still be incredible to look back on. Thank you.
Thank you for noticing! The music in this game is so extremely magical. Thousands of tracks, and so many of them are pieces of art. It feels right to use them in these videos, where they truly belong
So glad you commented this. I was scrolling thru the comments looking to figure out what music was playing during the clips of the actual massacre. I don't play RS3 so I didn't recognize it but it was epic. I've found it now thanks to your comment.
This was such a great and easy insight into this small part of gaming history. What was actually heartbreaking was the friendship ending moment with Voodoo.
No matter how many times I see videos like this about Runescape, it never gets old. I was 16 when the massacre happened, and I'll probably remember it when I'm 90. Thank you Runescape, for all the great memories.
Already the opening of the video gives me absolute goosebumps, that was one of the most violent incidents back then. Already 16 years ago, man how time flies...
This was such an amazingly well put together documentary about the whole story. I learned so many things I never even knew about it, like how smart Durial played the glitch! Well done.
I wasn't going to watch ANOTHER video on this, but I just started mid-way through and ended up watching through the end. Best researched and recreated video I've ever seen on it.
This is incredible, all the little details make this legend so much better... the fact that Durial picked up his green phat from a slain victim... my god.
Such a great documentary. I m so glad to have been a part of the runescape community for about 19 years. I have not been playing constantly, more on and off s I was never a serious "super grinder". However I have seen alot in the game. I was introduced to the game when I was only 9, by my friend who was 2 years older, he helped me with quests and stuff as I did not know english at the time. This has truly been my all time favorite game that seem to not let me go, I always come back to the game even after a 1-3 year break from it. I have had the pleasure to have spoken to Zezima once in RS2 and in OSRS the true legend of the game. I hope this game lives on forever.
Bro I don't understand how you don't have millions of subscribers. The effort that you must have put into this. The amount of time and energy that was spent. I hope this doesn't come across wrong but dude what an amazing job you did and I hope that you keep going because I love all your videos. The music is awesome and the research that you've done is outstanding. Thank you for everything you do!
I've never played RuneScape and I never will. But this is a captivating documentary. I'm convinced that I could be entertained by anything of good quality, regardless of the content. Thanks for this great video. I didn't learn anything useful, but it was none the less entertaining and enjoyable.
I love the editing with Old School players and environments layered onto modern RuneScape locations. Great video! Edit: Absolutely incredible that the final player Durial321 attacked, Ghjjf, was the leader of Cursed You's clan. What are the odds.
Wow.. just wow. You have outdone yourself with this one, Will. A huge shoutout to you and everyone involved in making this detailed video about a dark day in Runescape. You have gained my respect.
32:02 it's so creepy to see Durial321 run into the bank, when at that moment he wasn't the centre of attention. It's like one of those "eerie things captured on cctv"
Incredibly well done. You captured the reasons why Runescape was such an amazing game for many of us, while also doing a fantastic job of telling the story of the Falador glitch. This was very well researched as well, thank you for the great watch.
Hi there, I was really impressed with the detail and way this documentary was made. I haven't played runescape for 5 or 6 years but after I saw this, I brought a runescape bond and renewed membership for 14 days. This video definitely had the old skool feels.
This video was put together in such a phenomenal way, no matter how many videos I've watched of this, yours is just that next level. Thank you for this upload!
Fuck. It’s wild how we have such deep memories because of this game. I think it’s because it was our first experience of being a part of change. Having a voice. Thank you Jagex.
This was the best video I’ve seen covering this event. I still remember when this happened since I’m Australian and world 111 was my clans home world. I almost lost my Halloween mask set when my friends told me to come to Fally sq to check it out, luckily I banked everything since I’d always walk around with them in my inventory for the fashionscape and everything used to protect over them. Thank you for the nostalgia ❤️
This was the most beautiful, epic, inspiring, and gorgeous video ever made about a video game bug. You are the JRR Tolkien of ‘Video Game Retrospective UA-camrs’.
i just started playing osrs a couple months ago. 20 years old, so i would've been 3 when all this happened. the size and age of this community and all of the history surrounding it astounds me and is why i put so many hours in as i do.
I just want to say, the storytelling in this video is up with there and even surpasses some of the journalistic content on UA-cam right now. Great work.
So glad I was a player during this monumental day and they're still keeping it alive. Been playing osrs 17 years and still enjoy it. Great documentary man!
It's crazy how significant an event this was. I never played Runescape back in the day, but I was playing Star Wars Galaxies at the time, I would occasionally see ppl say "hey you hear what happen in Runescape?". Even years later, I started playing Clone Wars Adventures and I met this guy I played with for a while, he told me how he stopped playing Runescape after that cuz he was scared of losing his hard work just in case something like that ever happened again
Likely one of the best documentaries that has ever been done on any event this game has ever seen. Extremely well done and it's not hard to tell that a lot of time and effort went into this.
Great Documentary WillMissIt! I remember signing on and being told to go to Fally because crazy shit was going down. Amazing how monumental the Fally Massacre is to this very day!
It's crazy to think that only a couple thousand of us max were actually there for that. I was so young and truthfully didn't even fully understand what I was witnessing or how monumental it was going to be. I was 15 years old in 2006. I can't stress how many hours I've spent looking through footage people have collected hoping to find my original RS name caught in any of it but of course with my luck it wasn't hah. thankfully for me I was poor noob and didn't have alot back in 06. Durial was targetting players wearing gear/rares so people like me who had little to nothing were just following him around with no threat towards us. I remember Jmods and Player Mods warning us over and over to bank our items, Some players were standing right next to me risking P hats who weren't listening to the warnings as it almost seemed like some sort of joke made by Jmods so some of us didn't even think it was actually real until I seen a player die and his stuff appeared then it turned into madness and people started sprinting for the banks. lmao. I'm in my 30's now and there are so many more memories this game has created for me over the years. I play RS3 still and i'm close to Trimm. Thank you WILL for re-creating some of these memories in a production style reminder. I know theres a ton of people like me who have played this game since they were 11 years old who love watching these and love having our brains refreshed. This is a great video and I enjoyed the entire hour. Thanks to jagex for creating a game we all love and have had with us since we were children! Much love from the USA! - Ezle
The dude straight dipped out with his homie and made it look like they were in a fight to cover the trail. Fucking savage. Huge power struggle must have happened in the underground market
This was genuinely an amazing video to watch. Watching Durial do things like trade things to his friend before he even started killing people felt like an actual crime investigation surveillance video. So cool to see!
I got 99 attack at 15 years old with like 70 att and str, I had untrimmed 99 attack at 104 combat... I actually cried. I was being bullied at the which perhaps isn't surprising LOL
I was Durial321s friend. I remember logging in that day to hear what was happening but I didn’t care enough training in the wild at the time. I was in ts and he was so excited to commit the massacre. The good old days
I was 8 when this happened and not there myself, but I was at my friends house with him watching it happen. I dont remember much but I remember being scared that my friend was going to lose his stuff
BRO THIS IS EASILY THE BEST DOCUMENTARY ON THE FALLY MASACRE THANK YOU I WASNT AROUND FOR THIS, I GOT TO RELIVE IT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. SUBBED AND LIKED
I was online during this on another world and news traveled fast! By the time I arrived it was all over. Now as an oldie I no longer play and have not for many years, but this memory will never be forgotten, along with so many others from these days, times where different back then, unless you was around you’d probably never understand rushing home telling all your school friends to log into same world and meet at a certain location. Time flys guys, it really does! Remember that. RIP

@@AntVenom Ah, yes... "You never quit RuneScape, you just take long breaks."
Fucking hell AntVenom you're a throwback to my childhood
this is really an ode to how raw runescape really was. being a young kid on this game exposed you to armor trimming scams, players emoting as female characters for gp in varrock square, and losing everything you worked so hard for to a boss or if you were unlucky enough... this bug. the golden era was really the trenches and im sure most of us can agree that we learned a lot of life lessons early on due to the nature of this game. thank you for all the research you put in this video could not be any better!
on the other hand, it was a way better community.
@@Coco-oy5sm this is why I wont play osrs, its just not the same
Inflation of expectations. Back in the years you really didn't care, you just wanted to have fun. Now first what you do is most likely checking for most efficient build and A-Z walkthrough guide.
I was one of those boys who made a female character for free stuff. What's insane is just how profitable it actually was. I got full rune once for doing the bow emote a bunch and that was back when rune was amazing.
i was convinced into account switching with a random as an innocent 8 year old
had to head to school and he wouldn’t get off my account. came back in the afternoon and all my stuff was gone
i learnt a valuable lesson that day😂
I started playing RS in 2004 and consider myself lucky I was able to play during the Golden Age. Having my closest friends "sleep over" so we could do pk trips on our mini-pures while playing together in the same vicinity will always be my favorite memory. The nostalgia from watching this video is honestly bitter-sweet, but Runescape will always hold a special place in my heart even though I haven't played in years.
Same bro.
I vividly remember being at my cousins on that fateful day... thankfully, i was enjoying some quality time with family but I remember getting home and logging on and EVERYONE was talking about this on EVERY world you went to... insane memories and still one of the fondest I have even without being there!
THE EDITING ON THIS IS INSANE YOU KILLED IT WELL WORTH THE WAIT TOP TOP TIER VIDEO MY GOODNESS
I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE'RE YELLING ABOUT!!.. LOUD NOISES!!
I agree! This gives me hope for Rs UA-cam lol
Coming back again to say this is a world class documentary. You did so well on this
Thank you!
I'm hyped the event's history will forever be preserved in this time capsule of a video.
To anyone else watching this on 6/6 with me, happy anniversary!
This and WoW's plague is so interesting. I first wanted to get a degree in game making but hated it and changed degrees. I have so much respect for coders in times of absolute chaos.
Why did you hate it and what do you study now?
@@chloewinnaa1515 Didn't like the coding part of it. Switch to Sports Management and now I help run a small university hockey program.
@@miccrhaafetl5101 wow actual wow that such a intense shift in the opposite direction I assume, from coding to sports management. So I assume you had feelings of wanting to be in sports mangement before? Or did you find that love by trial and error?

I quit rs a long time ago, but this was suddenly in my feed. I had to click it for old times sakes, and when I saw how long the documentary was, I immediately knew I wouldn't watch the whole thing. Boy was I wrong. This was extremely well made, and kept me engaged all way through. I wasn't there on world 111, I was probably somewhere murdering goblins with my brother, but this is still nostalgic, and a childhood memory i'll never forget. Thank you!
OMG THIS IS SUCH A MASTERPIECE. THE EXPLANATION, THE EDITS, THE STORYLINE, THE THE THE... WOW!
amazing video with incredible editing! Thanks for putting this together!

@@rswillmissit so many great rs3 tracks and extinction so fitting. Definitely noticed it including the raids music used earlier in the video!
So glad you commented this. I was scrolling thru the comments looking to figure out what music was playing during the clips of the actual massacre. I don't play RS3 so I didn't recognize it but it was epic. I've found it now thanks to your comment.
@@pacman_ Glad the music is of interest!
@@pacman_ did you find what music is played at 16:40? thanks in advance!
I had no idea there were clips of players other than Duriel PKing in safezones. This is some deeper lore than I thought
Thank you Runescape, for all the great memories.
ive never been so SATISFIED with such a documentary literally had goose bumps the way this was told luv it.
Got literaly chills when silence dropped and you showed Durial's name. The editing and story telling on this was amazing.

Already the opening of the video gives me absolute goosebumps, that was one of the most violent incidents back then. Already 16 years ago, man how time flies...
It was awesome :)
The intro not the massacre.
@@kylefer The “massacre” was pretty awesome too.
This is incredible, all the little details make this legend so much better... the fact that Durial picked up his green phat from a slain victim... my god.
It makes me physically sick.
I'm so glad WillMissIt goes into actual detail with his videos and not just skimming a wiki article like most rs video makers.
“It had been a night of terror, a night of dread.
A night of murder with countless bloodshed” bars
This is an amazing video. Extremely well made, well paced, I was glued to my screen the whole time.
It's always amazing to think how much this has echoed though the years. You'd think something like this would fade, but here we are.

Absolute masterpiece of a video. Never have I been so glued to an hour long video. Congratulations on the hard work.
The fact the bug was activated via CURSED You's home is crazy. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that synchronicity
For real it's like the whole moments before disaster stuff that's everywhere.
This is definitely the best video so far (next to the Zezima = Mod Mark one)! Thanks for putting in the time and effort to create this, Will!
Your ability for storytelling always brings me such a burst of nostalgia and happiness. Keep it coming!
This video was put together in such a phenomenal way, no matter how many videos I've watched of this, yours is just that next level. Thank you for this upload!
This was really well made man, I love the RuneScape community ❤️
Incredible work man. I was glued to the screen for the entire video. Can't believe it's been just about 20 years since all of these events transpired
Me too I almost lost my party hat
Duriel is a man after my own heart.
It's not about the loot, it's about the legend.
Crazy that this historical moment in gaming history happened when I was 9 months old.
That's insane
Haha that’s cute.
crazy to think a 20 year old game still pulls in new players too, i was almost convinced we were all pushing 30 playing this game at this point.

ANEX I didn’t decide when I was born
Thank you for keeping RuneScape alive people like you are why we love the game.
2 minutes in and this is legendary. Thank you for the effort you give to the community. Excellent music and transitions btw.
Never played RuneScape but was absolutely glued to this video. Good storytelling friend
This is so thorough. The highlighted scene with Durial arriving at the bank was like a security footage from a movie
Someone said this already

I really enjoyed "stalking" his journey, to be honest! It's really interesting that we can track him in that way
Starting the video: How is this an hour long?
Ending the video: Why is this only an hour long?
Getting a 99 at 14 years old is absolutely insane
No kidding, I started playing in 05 at age 12 an didn’t get a 99 till 2018. lol
