Hamish Brayshaw and Schofield have just hammered the journos on this on backchat. Absolutely grubby journalism. They know at any one time that will be 10 to 20 guys unhappy with the coach. Basically anyone not getting a game. These guys are competitive, with big egos and arrogance, fear getting dropped from squad, missing out on big money while teammates get paid more... work hard and think they deserve to get a game every week. Its an unbelievably childish and grubby article. The West then loses all credibility as they deliberately make it sound worse than it is. 3 players including 2 kids not currently getting games currently. So what. I wonder if the club knows of the players and whether it explains why some may not be getting games. ha ha...

@@Rivals96 If the Eagles pick up energy and play competitive footy (and win a couple of games) then he's likely to survive. But if they continue on and get thumped by Dockers then he may be moved on. The fact is that next year is his last year and it also becomes really awkward and disruptive for club if speculation on whether he is coaching or not continues for most of 2025, before he leaves in round 17 say, allowing the club to look aggressively at a new coach. Club may not like the sound of that option.

@@Rivals96 Young players struggle as the year progresses as do older players. We have both in spades. So I think we do need to bring in some youngsters that have played WAFL or missed a bit of footy to bring in a bit of energy. We need players to create frenetic pressure in our forward line. I think that could be catching and may lift the passion and energy levels. Johnston a good selection... as could Culley Rawlinson Hall...Trew needs some games with Culley to reward effort. That's important in a footy club. Experimenting with an all tall forward line is experimentation for the future. May be good long term. But short term its negative as players question why? how can they create pressure in the forward half? Its catching and then no one creates pressure... But clubs planning for the future walk a delicate tight wire trick.

I have never entertained the idea of Simpson being sacked because up until this year I think there is nothing a different coach could have done differently with all our injuries etc. this year though I’ve slowly changed my mind. We were promised prioritising youth and to see hall, Culley and trew performing well in the wafl (more Culley and trew) and to get 1 and 1/4 games between the 3….to see blokes do nothing in the wafl and go straight into the team. To see players in the team underperform week after week and Maric gets dropped…it’s really sending the wrong message to players and supporters that they’re not prioritising youth in a rebuild, they’re not rewarding good performance in the wafl and not dropping poor form in the team even with such a good injury list. Of course that will seep into the playing group as there are no consequences for a bad game, no reward for a good game, no competition to keep your spot…it promotes apathy and that is the word that could sum up the players against hawthorn. Playing such an old team at this stage just seems like a coach who either is stuck with his favourites or trying to win games to keep his job, either way that’s not good for the team. The fact darling hasn’t been dropped once while Jack Williams and Maric who are streaks ahead and are the future of this club really sums it up. I don’t think we are actually better than last year. I think we have about 4 older players and one generational star playing above and beyond and making us look better. Without yeo, barrass, McGovern, waterman and Reid this year the results would look just as bad as they were last year. The worst part is a few of those guys, despite the riches the club keep boasting about, flew themselves at their own expense to get proper treatment from an expert for their injuries because their club kept failing them says it all. We have pumped few games into young players. We have debuted a few, mainly as subs, but I think it’s all show no substance. It looks to me as Simpson has lost the playing group, I have no bad feelings towards simpson, it just feels like things have come to a natural conclusion with this coach and team and it’ll be better for all to just have a fresh start now

Someone on a code footy post on facebook did make a comparison to getting JD to 300, in a similar way to the way Richmond handled Dustin Martin's situation. I don't think we're in a position to engage in such sentimental acts as much as I love and respect everything JD has contributed to this club. It doesn't sit well with me dropping him in that sense, but in terms of what the club needs, he really shouldn't be in the side at present.

The Eagles need to pick some kids to boost enthusiasm and pressure. Some small forward types applying tackling pressure would help. We've hit the wall. Sides worked us out and guys are no doubt suddenly finding the season very long. At the same time club is experimenting in some areas that are costing us victories. That's a club decision that Simmo must buy into. All this is contributing to a drop off, but it must be turned around with more small forwards and players that like to tackle and apply pressure. Kids always bring excitement too. That must occur.

Really annoyed me when Simpson mentioned in the press conference that they are giving young players opportunities. Having the likes of Rawlinson, Trew, Johnson and Dewar play 1 or 2 games as a sub then get dropped in not giving them an opportunity! The sides being selected isn’t the age profile of a rebuilding side. the amount of players 27+ is the profile of a side that thinks it’s a contender! We have 3 more players in our selected side this weekend 27+ than Sydney!!

But attitude reflects leadership. Simmo looks defeated half the time during press conferences - like he's given up already. And telling the boys that winning on the road isn't a priority is baffling. I wonder about the captaincy situation too, whether co-captains were a good idea and whether Oz and Duggo are the right men for the job. I don't think Duggan at least is good enough. Personally I'd prefer Barrass as skipper. Constantly one of our best and gives his all every week.

@@sotiriosnovatsis4529 only if you replace them with something better, and that is very much a variable. Sacking the coach has NOT worked out well for many clubs, who had multiple coaches on a seemingly rotating door basis. The Eagles, historically, have rarely moved on coaches without having a very decent replacement already in line. Which brings me to my question which might be a good discussion topic, who our there worth a damn, is gettable? Because I am seeing relatively slim pickings.

I'm a Dockers Supporter myself and I have all the respect in the world for the West Coast Eagles for everything the club has achieved, but Jesus Christ man there are a lot of toxic people out there, fans, media and possibly people in the realm of the club. please let me disagree my good sir.
i think simmo should stay until the end of his contract.
the game plan we are playing is a simple contest ball. we are building and this years game plan isn't the high possession but build contest. look at it like a long pre season next year or the year after start the possession game.
the 3 players who don't like the selection that should be good. i don't know if its more but if you are not getting picked you should be pissed, they are professional athletes and should think they should be picked. if a player was happy not getting a game then they should be gotten rid of.
as for Maric i think with the addition of J Williams we need someone a bit smaller and hutchy fits that bill.
Maric is listed as 196cm and Hutchey is 190cm.
the other option is Brookman who is 180cm and he is playing for his life in the next 2 weeks.
Darling has been really good if you take into inside 50 delivery Darling has been playing well. he takes a lot of heat off Waterman and Allen.
also also i think Allen said it best in his press conference when asked if you guys are playing for the coach. Allen said yes but not just the coach but everyone at the club. i think to much gets put into are the players playing for the coach. the players should be playing for each other and that is the coaches job.

There are so many things wrong with West Coast atm.
Leadership - McGovern is probably our best leader. No one seems to fly the flag as evident today when Gawn was on top of Harley in scuffle and Tim Kelly does a pretend help and just lets Gawn sit on top of him. When Harley is frustrated there's a lack of assertiveness. Get him off, move him up forward, players should get in his ear. There's no way Harley Reid does that for Sydney, Geelong, Hawks of the past where there's more discipline and leadership.
Players out of position - At this moment there's no point having a tired looking Yeo and out of sorts Kelly who doesn't chase in the midfield. We have more than competent key forwards and key defenders. Putting Yeo down back and Kelly up forward sorts out forward line and backline. Then we play young blokes on the ball and get some games into them. If we're getting thumped each week then we may as well get midfield game time into the future of this team. A young midfield is gonna struggle from time to time but we're struggling now. At least we are solid down back and up forward. Then there's the ruck. Sign a number one ruck already.
Assistant coaches - we've lost some good assistants over the years. Mitchell was here for our last flag. Just look at assistants at clubs like Collingwood, Sydney, Essendon and even St Kilda. The Saints have the likes of Lenny Hayes, Robert Harvey, Corey Enright and Brendan Goddard in there.
    Just my 10 cents

We haven't recruited/traded/drafted well over the past 5 years. Chesser, Ginbey, Long average at best. Hewett, Burgiel and Flynn are injury prone. Brockman hasn't shown much. Then we have young guys like Culley and Maric who aren't getting regular opportunities in favour of underperforming veterans. We have a bevy of kids like Hall, Johnston, Rawlinson, Dewar etc waiting for a proper go. If we're serious about this rebuild, we need to drop some veterans and get some games into our kids. Darling, Gaff, Ryan, Petch, Cripps etc are not the future of the club. These young guys are.

Personally i was disgusted by the coaching effort last weekend. To push all of our players into the back 50 (which was clearly a coaching directive as it happened multiple times) i thought was one of the dumbest decisions i've seen from a coach given the team strengths and weaknesses. Firstly the likelihood that we were going to give up a free kick or a mark was pretty high even with that overcrowding but if we did happen to get a fast break through reid or yeo or ryan who they had running through the middle who are they kicking to????????? thin fkin air. Secondly what sort of message does that send to players? We cant trust the backline or back anyone in to do their role? Its not good for player mentality or bonding. Honestly absolutely disgraceful coaching and he deserves every ounce of criticism he's getting. I have been on simpsons back for years in my circle of friends, i've seen so many questionable things and i cannot wait till we get rid of him. Possibly the worst coach the eagles have ever had. Don't give me any bs about 2018 either, he inherited a good lineup.
