I had tears in my eyes. It is like we are witnessing all the step that led to the discovery of America and all the good that came with it. Or better said all the step that led to the creation of Starfleet and the colonisation of the Galaxy. The first contact need to involve pointy ears

BofA is stupid, Tesla already improved it’s efficiently on building at a lower cost, at the same time the other automakers made 0 change. Another claim they made was lower demand, well (1) Tesla is the only automaker you can fully buy online. They are NOT affected by the virus when it comes to sales OR deliveries of finished vehicles. (2) they have $8.5 Billion in... they have more money than any automaker to shut down All factories for a year and still not go bankrupt... (3) Tesla is already ahead on the EV market and gas’s will go back up.. so what’s gonna happen when all of the other automakers put a stop to their EV transition? They will lag even further behind! And when gas goes back up to $3-4-5 a gallon (because they keep producing it and as soon as people go back to work the demand for oil will spike sending the prices to the sky) Tesla will come out ahead. (4) Tesla is cheaper over 5 years than any car of the same price due to almost 0 maintenance costs, which makes it the smarter value purchase aside from the fact that you don’t get scammed by dealers, everyone pays the same price at the website.! 😅

The coolest thing in my view is; space x rocket ramp-up, space x took 18year to archive ~80 rocket. And now planning 100 spaceship a year. it's model 3 style ramp-up! Betting the entire company on it, going from a 3billion max delivery to space business to a 30+billion in internet provider.

Perhaps it's a testimony to film producers, it's so realistic that those who doubt our space program. Is because some can't tell the real from fiction. Whare I live some absolutely don't believe we've been to space or have a space program. I'm old enough to have watched the Glen launch, Sputnik, Apollo watched the moon walk on TV live. I remember seeing my first Commerical Jet 1959. My first flight from Oakland to Denver DC9 landed in Reno&Salt lake. They rolled a bowl of punch down the aisle. On the runway the plane was on an angle, big wheels up fron little wheel in the back. I was 4 or 5 years old 1957/8 Cheers

Just a note about rocket pollution, Elon talked about a solar farm that would extract CO2 from the air to manufacture methane for Starship. When Starship launches it burns the methane, but it is CO2 neutral. No pollution. Live long and prosper indeed!

Part of me wants to bring this to Chicago. We don't get discussions like these about the future of innovation, and I'm guessing it's because we're kind of disconnected from all of these events geographically. Maybe I'm wrong (so if anyone can tell me otherwise it would be much appreciated) but I definitely want to spread the word about the big changes SpaceX and Tesla are making and possibly many other groups as well.

The only way we are going to save the earth is to get off of it! I am up for the ride. I’ll cover the psychiatric and medical end. We should have a National Tesla rally when Starship goes up! Another thing I’ve noticed in all this is that I have not once heard anyone mention Kim Stanley Robinson’s Red Mars series. Last time I read it was like 23/24 years ago, and have a rough memory of it. This is exactly what we’re going for.

Listening to this brings home once again that we have done a great disservice to our generation and those coming next to have not invested properly in education, especially in math and science.
The things I studied in JHS are things people still haven't studied or know about that have college degrees.
How sad that we would rather sponsor sports (notice how much effort we are putting into getting sports back on line during this lock down), but we willing drag our feet on science projects and programs. Guess which one benefits our lives more.
General ignorance and fear is rampant then add in the complication of having an open platform to be proudly and loudly misinformed.
Being a nerd is only slightly cooler today compared to being a, "sports hero, singer, etc". We have Elon as a role model for how awesome and cool being smart is... and I KNOW there are many more great minds out there (many of them working with him) that we should honor them like we do our "idols".

Tim, since you asked: Yes, I watched your vid on how much rockets pollute. Learned a lot. But truthfully, I don't think the yield was a good return on the amount of time you expended. You got deep into the asymptotic curve of how much further value was obtained for time spent. I know you get fascinated by the deep dives, but would like to see more frequent vids so we can see you cover more topics/stories.

The question of when someone lands on Mars really is a fascinating one right now. So much uncertainty still remains as Tim says with many milestones to be reached successfully on the way. But as Austin so passionately gets across there is so much pace to development in Boca Chica that its definitely making one wonder just what Elon Musk & SpaceX might be capable of pulling off.
My feeling is the answer may lie somewhere between both perspectives in the end. I do think the work required to get to the first manned Starship could be understood by looking at the level of effort and time it took to get to this point with Crew Dragon. Lives may well be lost in the effort to get to Mars but in this day and age you have got to show you have done everything humanly possible to reduce that risk. Hopefully though that experience with Crew Dragon safety margins will inform SpaceX Starship to shorten the time needed to get to human rated flights!
On the other hand I think Starship cargo and fuel variants development will be supercharged & I share Austin's super positive outlook on when one may get to Mars. I think Elon Musk is super focused on achieving that capability within timeframe most others would feel unrealistic. There seems also to be a real confidence within Elon Musk himself and SpaceX that the design is on right track now and orbital Starship tests are going to be happening this year! In my mind if that happens and is successful I can see Elon making a real run at a 2023/2024 window for first flight test to Mars. It will be incredible if he does pull that off, and I personally wouldn't bet against him or SpaceX - if anything it may be economic/outside factors due to Pandemic etc that could unfortunately be reasons more likely to put spanner in the works of that ambitious timeline.
So a lot of uncertainty but also it's a certainty Elon Musk is going all in! :)

I'm afraid death in the space industry pushes the technology further. If the 3 astronauts that died during the Apollo program hadn't died, ( Grissom, Chaffee, White) we almost certainly wouldn't have gotten to the moon. That tragedy made the engineers fix a lot of problems.

With Elon showing the way, we should see things picking up pretty fast. I say that because once Roger Bannister showed the four-minute mile is possible, suddenly a lot of people broke four minutes. Even high school runners. That being the case, if it works for us after Elon showing the way, the future is bright.

Well, if you're gonna spend 8 months on a rocket to Mars, you could do worse than be locked up with these guys 👍🚀

Living on Mars is equivalent to pioneers in early America. Only much better because of technology.

We will terraform Mars by making its moon bigger, directing debris towards it. Cities will be in the canyons and underground.

Next time you interview Elon, could you do a segment on " that is definitely the wrong way to do it". If Elon agrees, he would be talking about things he has done in the past and elaborates on why they were the wrong approach.

The time-line you first mentioned regarding possible humans going to Mars included, I believe, NASA participation or involvement along with SpaceX (hence all the super-critical checks and double checks and triple checks). But if SpaceX pursues Mars exploration more on its own dime, and at its own risk, so to speak, then possibly the timeline might be able to be pushed ahead sooner than it otherwise might be?
