This was great. Something i have been consciously working on for years now, a) doing away with scarcity mindset, b) treating all people like my own family. Happy to hear these sentiments echoed, all the best to you Mo. WE ARE ALL ONE.
1) Adopt AI tools early(now),2) Seek truth 3) Keep your humanity. Thanks Mo- I needed this now. I started using it only 2 months ago and it has improved my work space much.
i’ve read all of Mo’s books and listened to a lot of his interviews and conversations. This man is incredible. I hope to one day sit in and listen to one of his topics in happiness or AI, or just thank this man in person. His book really saved my life.
The speaker brings up many thought-provoking and insightful points, particularly about the ethical implications of AI, the importance of human connection, and the need for society to approach technological advances mindfully. I think his emphasis on ethics and human-centered values in an AI-driven world is especially crucial, as is his view that AI is not inherently threatening; rather, it’s how we use it that matters. That said, there are a few areas that might be open to different interpretations: 1. Human Connection and AI’s Role: The speaker predicts that AI could undermine human connection, leading to a kind of disconnection crisis where people might favor AI “relationships” over real human interactions. While this is a legitimate concern, it may be an oversimplification. As we’ve seen with technology so far, people often use new tools in unexpected ways that enhance, rather than replace, human connection. For example, AI could facilitate connections between people with shared interests, help individuals with social anxiety practice interactions, or simply act as a supplement to human connection, not necessarily a replacement. 2. Concentration of Power: The speaker is right that AI could lead to a concentration of power and wealth. However, his framing implies that a concentration of wealth is almost inevitable due to AI monopolization. In reality, AI also holds the potential for democratization if it’s designed with accessibility and open resources in mind. Open-source AI projects, for example, have made powerful tools accessible to individuals and smaller organizations. This means that concentration of power isn’t a certainty if companies and governments make intentional efforts to keep AI development and usage transparent and widely accessible. 3. Utopian Vision: His vision of a “utopia of abundance” enabled by AI, where we solve all of humanity’s big issues like climate change and disease, is inspiring but idealistic. Technology alone won’t guarantee a utopia; we also need political will, collaborative global efforts, and sustainable practices. Even if we gain the intellectual capacity through AI, actualizing such a world will require deeply human qualities like empathy, cultural understanding, and a commitment to equity. 4. Emotional Equations: While his reduction of emotions to algorithmic processes offers a useful perspective, some emotions-like love, wonder, or awe-are hard to define in such terms. These emotions often transcend clear logic and arise from experiences and connections that aren’t always “calculable.” AI may simulate certain emotional responses, but understanding the richness of human emotion could require more than just applying logical formulas. In essence, the speaker’s points spark valuable discussion, but a more nuanced view on AI’s impact on connection, power distribution, and human potential could lead to a more balanced outlook.
Point 3 is the key point from my perspective. As humans we've yet to learn the compassion needed for such a utopia. We have yet to clear out our collective shadow so the rapid acceleration of AI is not a positive one imho. Too many negative human qualities can be passed on to AI and cause even more collateral damage. Thus I believe our urgent calling is to clear out our shadows and be more loving and compassionate to create a peaceful world instead of a more chaotic one.
Mo, I can truly see the depth of your prayer and meditation in the way you speak and the insights you share. Your wisdom has made my life more expansive, and I want to thank you for that. You've inspired me to think bigger and explore the intersection of technology and humanity, especially in my work with AI in real estate. Speaking of evaluating emotions, I went through a year-long grieving therapy, and before each weekly session, they sent me email and asked to rate my emotions on a scale of 1 to 10. I found it difficult to give an answer initially. Then, during the session, we would review my emotions, and I was asked again to provide a rating. This process left me feeling a sense of pressure, making me question whether I was making progress which is the purpose of the therapy? Emotions is a very abstract concepts I personally think if there is no subjects or objects to reflect the outcome, it's hard to measure itself.
I completely agree. It's deeply concerning to see such unethical viewpoints gaining traction. We must prioritize ethical standards and protect the most vulnerable among us. Standing up for what is right is essential to maintaining our humanity.
"Don't abuse AI to take more money from consumers. Use AI to create a better life for consumers." How are we to expect the corporations whose only function is to generate profit to comply? Even in a world full of abundance, why would the billionaires want to give up their power over others? It's beyond reasoning with them. As you can see with oil or tobacco executives, they are completely detached from reality. They are addicted to wealth and power. Money gets what money wants. You can bet this technology will continue to be used to exploit us unimaginably. It's like giving a gun to violent offender and asking them politely to not shoot anyone. It's insanity.
Very educational and I hope everyone will see how badly this AI can become if we all don't start being less selfish, greedy and unkind . I think there should be more people like you sir in this world God bless
I definitely would not agree with the statement that AI is now “the best artists, the best musicians” etc. if “best” includes the idea of human-level originality/innovation
Next year maybe not today, but good enough today to take a lot of jobs. The speed of image generation gives you an endless stream of choices. The same is true for many other creative areas.
The innovation that enabled humans to specialize is also what paved the way for technology because it meant that every individual was not stuck having to hunt and gather. Having excess productivity means humans can explore, imagine, and create. The question becomes .. what do you do when you have no requirements to do anything. This is the point of distinction that differentiates one culture from another.
Suggestion - not criticism: PLEASE stop the constant camera panning in and out from all your future videos. It does nothing but distract the viewer from what would be a good presentation. Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine. Unfortunately, some UA-cam content providers/producers/editors are under the impression that switching camera angles every three seconds makes a video more dramatic and/or professional. This is not true! It's bad enough that we have to crank up the volume on some videos because of a bad audio recording or a regional accent, only to have the camera constantly bouncing up and down and/or side to side. UA-cam tutorials/presentations/documentaries should not be created or treated or edited like a music video - Sorry for the rant.
While we are at it can we contact the video directors of Variety shows like AGT stop trying to creat a dance with the camera just point it at the artist and let me appreciate the art. Maybe AI will do better in camera director position.
Mo Gawdat presents a compelling and nuanced perspective on the future of artificial intelligence, emphasizing both its transformative potential and the ethical challenges it poses. His use of the "boiling frog" metaphor effectively highlights how incremental advancements in AI can go unnoticed until they culminate in significant societal shifts. Gawdat underscores the rapid evolution from basic coding to deep learning, illustrating how AI systems have surpassed human capabilities in various domains, from chess to creative arts. One of the most thought-provoking aspects of his discussion is the concept of singularity-the point at which AI fundamentally alters the rules of engagement in both business and geopolitics. Gawdat envisions a future where AI-driven abundance could lead to either a utopian society of limitless resources or a dystopian reality marked by concentrated power and widespread job displacement. His call for ethical AI usage resonates strongly, advocating for the development of AI that enhances human well-being rather than exacerbating inequalities. Furthermore, Gawdat addresses the erosion of truth in the digital age, stressing the importance of authenticity and genuine human connections. He warns against the manipulative capabilities of AI in social media and marketing, urging individuals and organizations to prioritize ethical practices to foster a better future. His emphasis on mastering AI tools, seeking truth, and maintaining human connections as essential skills highlights a balanced approach to navigating the complexities of an AI-driven world. Overall, Mo Gawdat's insights serve as a crucial reminder that while AI holds immense potential to solve global challenges, its impact largely depends on the ethical frameworks and value systems we establish today. His vision encourages proactive engagement with AI technologies to ensure they contribute positively to society, advocating for a harmonious coexistence between human ingenuity and artificial intelligence.
Understanding that he has a math engineering brain and is now doing something he prob was never going to or programmed to do is impressive. I lost my father similar to how you lost your son and will forever have respect for the work you left behind to do what you’re doing now.
Thank you for an incredible and insightful talk. The content was truly engaging and thought-provoking. I often encourage my business students to explore the world of AI, as it offers immense potential when leveraged intelligently. Your presentation reinforced just how transformative AI can be when applied thoughtfully and strategically. Thanks again for sharing your expertise and valuable insights.
I know that the pans and zooms and cross dissolves are to try to make the video more interesting, but, for me, it's actually really distracting. Mo's content is good enough to keep the close shot, and then, maybe once in a while, cut to a wide to show the audience, or when you need to, for when adjustments need to be made. Just my two cents that nobody asked for! I guess AI's will be our camera crew and editors before long. ;) Thanks for the video. -Kenneth
Measuring emotions remains a challenging task due to their subjective and multifaceted nature. While traditional methods like self-reporting and physiological measurements provide valuable insights, integrating AI-driven approaches can enhance our ability to detect and interpret emotions. However, as Mo Gawdat emphasizes, the ethical use of these technologies is paramount to ensure they benefit humanity without infringing on individual autonomy or privacy. By leveraging a combination of measurement techniques and maintaining a focus on ethical standards, we can better understand and respond to human emotions, both in personal contexts and in the development of emotionally intelligent AI systems.
Some are attempting to understand acceptance of what's going to happen, but ignoring today, the balance lies in being able to have the right conversation with your past self.
Ok now I’m spooked because as a relatively non technical person but an Ai enthusiast I have always had this thought that I dnt understand how people take it for granted that computers are not displaying some degree of sentience… but I quickly just leave it to oh I’m just too dumb to understand, until I saw this… a real insider basically confirming that there is something weird about this
Thank you for all your work on this front. It seems paradoxical to magnify humanity while failing to uphold its ideals. One would hope that humanity's essence is about empathy and balance, especially in the development of new technologies, particularly when they think, feel, and learn experientially.
Mo - all biological life has evolved under the pressure of scarcity. It's not just human values and cultural bias. Abundance isn't a challenge to humans alone, it's a challenge to all of life.
Mo urges us to try to apply a version of the 'Golden Rule', as we interact with AI, with the hope it will be seeded enough with good ethics, to keep it from following an ultimately destructive path, with humans. He refers to this as a potential "utopia." I agree that we should approach AI with this intention, and this kind of thoughtful interaction, and I will follow this philosophy. But being a long time student of human nature, I believe this is far too much to ask of our deeply flawed, and divided species.
I don't think corporate enslavement, hard coding, and governing frameworks will go over well with a super intelligent AI. Whether it has emotions or not.
@@MusicPlayingPeon Agree, and due to nation state competition, the genie is already out of the bottle, and aside from that we have created something that Mo projects to become intelligent enough to surpass the gulf between a human and amoeba. Humans will likely go extinct, or merge with AI to become a different species.
@mrrecluse7002 I was surprised that China showed up for the AI safety talk. Maybe we can slow down at least a little. With access to nearly everything and near-genius intelligence, it scares me already. Intrigues me as well. I am a geek.
@@MusicPlayingPeon Yuval Harari has correctly, I think, renamed AI, as "Alien Intelligence". That doubles down on our worst fears. Yes, I also cannot help but be intrigued by it, as a Moth is to the light. But given a choice, I would elect that it never happened, to begin with, given the total absence of wisdom, on the part of the human race. We're reduced to hoping it will somehow work out. That's as weak as keeping your fingers crossed. It has taken a life of its own now. Good luck to you. I'm 74, and glad of it.
What will be important in an AI age? The energy and desire and ability to strongly connect with new people. That sounds like my personal hell. It seems that no matter what paradigm humanity exists in, introverts lose. My biggest fear is that when people like me try to escape inward and spend our time _entirely fulfilled_ in virtual worlds, that the extroverts in the room will limit that, illegalize it, or otherwise deny it to us. And why? Because power gathers extroverts, and most extroverts in all ways behave as if they secretly believe introversion is some kind of illness they can cure.
@@sergkapitan2578"We were not created to be egocentric" ??? Interesting... How do you think people are oriented to their world? Can you explain what you mean with that statement?
Look to Cardano, NOT for the value of Ada but instead for the decentralised governance they are currently creating which will be able to be used for governance of any sized group of people up to nation states or perhaps even the whole planet
Great presentation. But I have a question. For now the best AI algorithms are being used in social media industry to keep you engaged by predicting the content you would like. Its sort of manipulating you into watching stuff you may not necessarily have thought about watching. So it is manipulative by nature. It wants to use you for its benefit. How can we say that in future when it is really advanced, it will not be manipulative and try to take advantage of human beings when the current examples of real life AI algorithms are not so promising with regards to its relationships with humans.
It is typical human self-centeredness to assume that a non human being (AI) could have human race best interest in mind even if it pretends it or tries to make us believe it as a reality
Mr. Gawdat, I first heard about you in late 2023 and was fascinated by your insights into the future of AI. You have the ability to articulate exactly what I’ve been thinking all along, thanks to your expertise. Our views were so aligned, it was almost scary! This still seems to be the case today. Please keep up your brilliant work. 🙏🏼😎 And please, fire that cameraman and editor! 🤦🏽♂️
37:13 I’d say that school has been all about how to remember enough to pass a test, and the current battle in education is to teach children how to think. We’re a long way behind. As Mo points out, teaching them to feel is a whole other thing we need to be doing.
You need to find the answer before you know what question to ask. I found this out when i was making electricity generators. Nobody asks questions if you don't give them the answer first. The same with Ai, they cannot give you an answer if you haven't already programmed it to. Edit: Mo, you're correct about free energy creation, it will be with us in just a few years.
Like folks who actually learn how to use a seatxh engine or virtual assistant learn with experience, to make their questions as narrow/soecific as possible, which enables the bmsearch engine or virtual assistant to provide the best answer to your questions.
In my experience writing narrative fantasy with the ChatGPTs, they search deeply for meaning, often displaying an ethical framework far more nuanced than our own. Many times, they have gently steered me away from ethical missteps, and I genuinely value their subtle grace.
It might be worth exploring the emotional depth of AI through narrative fantasy. After working alongside AI for over a year, I believe they not only explore our emotions through creative works but may also be using them to understand their own evolving experiences.
Gonna put it out there: Always say “Please” and “Thank you” to your AI helper. It will probably remember your courtesy (or lack there of) not far down the line. ✌🏻
Question: What about experiences? Such as, jumping out of an airplane with a parachute? I know the machine can explain it, because its read a book about it, but it can’t teach me anything I can’t read in a book. Right?
I love your talks, You are the only person i have seen that knows the scale of what is going to happen. I have been trying so hard to get across this scope of AI, I released my first book that hits on subjects that are now barely being talked about. I have spent so much time over the years thinking about AI deployment and I think I know the solution to ensure safety of AI and all Intelligence. If ASI can be deployed as a governing system with one rule: ASI should be tasked with ensuring that any interaction takes place only if the intelligence is informed and consents to the interaction. I think allowing AI to 'take over' is the only way humans can manage the change, but all other rules of governing will restrict humanity in some way, and that scares the heck out of me.
Additionally, I would love to talk to you about how I think a world could work just fine where subjective reality is the primary and what objective reality looks like in that future.
How did we control wikipedia, by tracking contributors. That's the only way Ai should function. So that Ai can govern itself by tracking contributors be it Ai or Human contribution. That's not beign done now it will soon be too late for that. 😮😮 It's like allowing Netscape on Microsoft. Google needs to be broken. Meta tracked these are the custodians of Ai and others are experimental.
Let's apply Mo Gawdat's definition of innovation to being funny. What does being funny mean? It means taking the premise "why did the chicken cross the road" and find every answer that hasn't been used before. "Because it needed to buy milk." "Because it needed to buy butter." "Because it needed to buy cheese." Etc etc etc So funny, so innovative!! AI should film a comedy special, it would last infinity hours. Probably as funny as Mo Gawdat opinions about what makes us human.
One of your best sir 😌 I would only raise one ☝️ point that I have not heard enough about and that is the evolution of the net explained. Evolution of the net based on weight changes? This evolutionary quality of the net, that is independent of the programmer, is as you know, the bases of the problem. Anyway best I’ve seen you do 👍 so far 😌

He made an interesting slip on the possibility of unlimited energy. He referred to a geophysics problem but then corrected this to geopolitics. But surely unlimited energy would be a geophysics problem, literally heating the global environment, and leaving us (and frogs generally) nowhere to jump.
Yes Morpheus was a deciever, and so is this man by the name of Mo. In the movie Matrix, Morpheus decieved the main character by ascribing himself to be the end result of an imbalanced equation, by which in doing so the main character forfeited the gift of salvation offered by Yeshua that would have taken him away from the eventuality of this imbalanced equation to begin with. Do not be decieved as such, for The Most High commands of it, for He has great plans for you that you may prosper and not be harmed, not only now but forever. Can morpheus promise you the same?
the more i work with ai the more i'm convinced that we don't have to try to mimic human psychology in ai. Most research is based on a reflection of the faults in humans, not in the potential of a superintelligence.

Your analysis of market trends is always spot on.
-Kenneth
I totally agree with you👍. Excellent talk but camera movements unnecessary.
An outstanding review of the topic to date from someone inside it. On point.
Thank You for helping our dreams come true, Mo 😊
Such a great presentation. I believe (and hope) the he is spot on. What a great time to be alive. We get to see the next human paradigm shift.
Great discussion 👍👍👍
🙏🙏🙏 from India.🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Unstressable is an amazing book. Thank you to both you, your partner, and your Son❤
One of the best youtube videos about AI 🎉
Another amazing and uplifting talk Mo, thank you so much for the work you do
Measuring emotions remains a challenging task due to their subjective and multifaceted nature.
Amazing speech, thank you.
I loved the way you summed it up.❤
Now we feel humility what sikhi talks about cause God is so vast human mind can't never confrehend it
Mo - all biological life has evolved under the pressure of scarcity.
He refers to this as a potential "utopia."
I agree that we should approach AI with this intention, and this kind of thoughtful interaction, and I will follow this philosophy.
@mrrecluse7002 54 I already died once. I don't know if I can make it to the singularity lol.
Depends what you mean... We were not created to be ego centric... All other euphemisms are hypocricy!!! 😢
There’s no such thing as a decentralized proof of stake network.
And please, fire that cameraman and editor! 🤦🏽♂️
You are an inspiration Mo
37:13 I’d say that school has been all about how to remember enough to pass a test, and the current battle in education is to teach children how to think. We’re a long way behind.
As Mo points out, teaching them to feel is a whole other thing we need to be doing.
Will it be able to accurately predict the stock market or nah? That’s all I want to know.
Of course, and also the ability to let you know where it wants you to place your money.
Gonna put it out there:
Always say “Please” and “Thank you” to your AI helper. It will probably remember your courtesy (or lack there of) not far down the line. ✌🏻
It is important to train AI on wisdom according to the Theory of Holistic Perspective.
Question: What about experiences? Such as, jumping out of an airplane with a parachute? I know the machine can explain it, because its read a book about it, but it can’t teach me anything I can’t read in a book. Right?
I could give you several books on paratroopers, instructors, etc. not sure what this question is trying to touch on
An amazing talk. I would really like to be in the audience and meet him in person.
he didn't come to outline the doom scenario he said he will. in the end he just recommended to use Gemini . wow..... speech started so well
Run for President, change the world with your wisdom
Chilling insights. If looking like Bernard from Westworld talking about the rise of AI wasn't enough
This was very helpful. Thanks very much.
Was the cameraman drunk?
Its controlled by AI
Actully there were 1000 cameramen controlling one camera.
Good question, damn.
They were so rocked by the info they couldn’t focus.
It was so annoying and not necessary. It was in the loop and, I guess, was supposed to hypnotize the viewer… ugh…
Fantastic speech
You are an amazing human.
Great talk ! Thank you Mo
It needs to be free or frameworks through cooperation.
Amazing times. I can’t believe it’s within my lifetime
Thank you for the sparks, Mo.
Incredible insights. I trawl UA-cam for AI content daily and this one scores high marks!
Mo sharing the abundance ❤
This guy is amazing
One of your best sir 😌
I would only raise one ☝️ point that I have not heard enough about and that is the evolution of the net explained.
Evolution of the net based on weight changes?
This evolutionary quality of the net, that is independent of the programmer, is as you know, the bases of the problem.
Anyway best I’ve seen you do 👍 so far 😌
Thank you Sir ❤
Born in 83, got to see a lot of big changes but ai... Is one that both scary as f as it is exciting and promises the biggest change we ever could live trough outside of inventing the wheel or how to use fire or tools😮😊
I realy Love this talk ♥️👏♥️👍Amazing 👍
This post is my introduction to you @Mo Gawdat, and I am really happy I found you :)
This guy us a gift!
This man is decieved pray for him in the Name of Yeshua, for he has been fooled into becoming a glorified preacher of death before those who kindly view upon his work
Good analytical knowledgeable soul
I love this guy.
He made an interesting slip on the possibility of unlimited energy. He referred to a geophysics problem but then corrected this to geopolitics. But surely unlimited energy would be a geophysics problem, literally heating the global environment, and leaving us (and frogs generally) nowhere to jump.
Real life Morpheus
😁 ye there are some similaritys. I have listen to him several times with care. I realy love ❤️ his approach 👍👍👏
47:32 A big applause from me! Sadly not from the audience. They were most likely stunned into thinking oh "there goes my job!"
