This is the method I use regularly! You get a lot faster at it over time and figure out what size sections work best for you. I typically vary the size of my sections mostly because I'm lazy, but it also adds more variety to the curls. I haven't set a timer, but I believe I'm styling in around 20 minutes and then I let it air dry usually. I love this method because I get a lot more definition and less frizz because I smooth the hair as I go along. It also lasts a lot longer than a lot of other styling methods for me. *Side note- this method is great for looser curls and waves because it helps to get more curl at the root compared to finger twisting.
@@alyssazak4817 Manes by mel does a great side by side comparison that's probably better than me trying to explain it: ua-cam.com/video/DiR92WdNG84/v-deo.html Finger twisting is the same as finger coiling. Not sure which is the term that's most used. Hope that helps! I tried finger coiling/twisting for a while and my results were good, but like Mel explains- it's not as good for looser curls that have harder time curling at the roots.
just a tip for the finger rolling, when I do it I brush the section out smooth first and give it a little shake to see where my curls want to clump together and which way they want to curl. after that I grab a clump and finger roll it they way it was already curling
Believe it or not, I have been dreaming about trying this! I’m new to the Curly Girl community and am having trouble adjusting to the time and effort needed to look goooood! One thing I’d like to see is how you finger roll the hair just above your forehead. My hair tends to fall forward a lot and I’ve been trying to figure out how to lovingly control it! Any demo would be great! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you for sharing an alternative to twisting my wavy hair. I have shoulder length hair, and not as much as you, but it worked great and actually took less time than what I was doing before! Thanks again!
I haven't had the time/energy to finger roll my whole head yet but I've been doing just some pieces that frame my face or look really weird and that's been a really nice and relatively quick way to style for me, and the curls come out GORGEOUS
When I had the patience to finger curl, I had the best curls of my life😫 finger rolling is too exhausting for me and doesn’t bode well with my sensory issues… but the results here are amazing!
Stunning result ❤ such a great heat free technique for a special occasion or when you want your curls to pop. Back in the day I would’ve spent 45 minutes straightening my hair just to spend another 40 curling it with the irons 😂 so I think 45 min to finger roll and 10 mins to diffuse is worth it. Thanks for taking the time to film this 🙌🏻🥰
Beautiful! This is the only method that has worked for me with little frizz! I rarely (very rarely) wear my hair curly because it only last one day. By the time I’ve slept on my curly hair I look like Einstein electrocuted, lol. I always have to start over on Day 2. Also, when I heard it took over an hour to diffuse 😳 I wish someone would invent a cheap sit down dryer like in the 50’s and 60’s….maybe they do??
There are actually hair drying bonnets you can buy! You just put it over your hair and attach your hair dryer to the end and can sit hands free to let it dry - I've never used one but I've always wanted to try!
WOW! I tried this yesterday (on the very crown of my head) and it worked really well! I lost a lot of hair during the pandemic (got vaxxed and didn’t get sick, but anxiety set in BIG time) and it’s been growing back in for several months. I have several spots that looked really pink because of the lost hair AND my hair turned all white - this curling technique helps cover those spots. Cannot thank you enough!!
Your hair always looks so beautiful no matter what you do! You have inspired me to stop straightening my hair! Would you be willing to do a self care routine video?
I used to have beautiful thick curly hair until it started thinning and falling out I started noticing by hair getting thinner when I was 21 come out find out I got diagnosed with PCOS in 2017 and had thyroid problems . Still to this day it’s falling out and getting thinner if it gets any worse I will be wearing wigs it’s awful I always tell people if you have nice thick hair take care of it because one day you might not have that anymore . Its really affected my life so much emotionally because of that I don’t like taking pictures anymore because of my hair looks bad and I have very low self esteem about myself I don’t wish that on anyone it’s a horrible disease. I’ve tried everything nothing has worked so I imagine sometime I will be wearing wigs if it gets any worse 😢
OH WOW I adore it - the curls *and* the fullness!! I can see why u got tired, that is a lot of work -but I'm happy to learn a new technique! I'm doing my hair 2day so I'll try a few in the front lol. I think I'll have to try the glaze over the summer! Have a blessed Easter with your family, in the Hope & Glory of our risen Lord! ✝️ 🐇💕🦋
Thanks for sharing, I used to think that my hair was damaged or something because my waves never lasted longer than one hour and it always ended up frizzy. But I tried this method and my hair was so much more defined, plus, it is pretty fast compared to other methods.
I sooo wanna try this but with two girls I never have the time🙈 did you put all products on before or scrunched it after?? I’m gunna have to try this out xx
Love it! I've been doing this, but with twirling my hair around my finger. It works!! My hair has 3a from the ends to at least halfway up. I have about the same natural texture as you, but 20 inches long.
India, do you still get the same haircut as your last video telling us how Mrs. Joanne cuts your hair? Your cut is stunning and I love the volume that you get!! I'm recovering from the dreaded covid hair (falling out, thin, brittle) and could use a cut to give me some confidence back.
yes ! I still have her cut my hair 💛💛 I’d say my layers are a little less “choppy now” more blended. Maybe choppy isn’t the right word? But not as dramatic of layers. But same haircut essentially (:
That's gorgeous. I do wish you'd shown the back of your head and how you rolled that part because even with a perm, mine's so ugly in the back. I'd like to try this but my arms are rather weak, so I imagine it'll take me a long time. Then again, I've lost a lot of hair back there (I noticed only after trying some "new & improved" DevaCurl products), so it'd be nice if that extra curl disguised that nearly-bald area in the back. Since my hair's never been able to hold a curl very long, what I'd like to do is get some little bobby pins (I have those little alligator clips, but they get tangled my hair too easily) and pin each little roll to my scalp until it's all rolled up. Maybe even sleep with it like that, because I have no hairdryer.
I do finger waves and use small pins and let my hair air dry and omg the curls are bouncy and amazing. It does take time so i do this when i am bored and nothing going on for the day.
I haven't tried this, and haven't heard about it until now. Due to the time maybe this would be a good thing to do on special occasions when you want your hair looking absolutely perfect! Thanks India!
Beautiful. I’m curious if the curl held just as well and if you would do it again? I don’t know that I would have the patience-maybe for special occasions!!
It held well! i think if I could go back I would use a little more gel to make it to 4th day hair. But by the end of day 3 it wasn’t really refreshable Bc then it would just go back to my natural hair pattern if that makes sense?
Next time can you please zoom in on the hand this is the 3rd video where I can’t see exactly what’s going on with the finger for a finger coiling video but other then that good video 🎉
I wanna try this, but also, it takes me a long ass time to dry my hair regularly, so adding on possibly 45 min of rolling + an hour+ of drying, I need to make sure I have enough time 😅
I do not have the patience to do that on my hair but I have so much hair!! I just cut ten Inches off of it, and still have a ton. I should try to do it sometime tho.❤
I hear you; curling your hair for 40 some minutes is a pain and my hair also curls more on one side than the other. In the end, I finger coil (sometimes pin when it's dry if I'm lazy) only the top because I just can't! I gotta save up my patience for my teenager!
Gorgeous results! Worth the effort?Hmmm….How long did the results last? Also, an hour to diffuse?!? If you haven’t tried it, the Shark blow dryer and diffuser are GAME. CHANGERS!
This turned out beautifully! I have been wanting to try but I’m also very lazy and the I know there is a learning curve to get them to look correct. I’m Inspired now!

Yes, use a stronger hold gel or mouse, and don't scrunch them afterwards. Some will scrunch it and for me it all falls our after all that work. Especially in the back. But it's a ton of trial and error. Plus, ur hair probably has different curl patterns. Mine def does. There's an entire layer on the underside and back that will not curl except with an iron. It's frustrating, but the right lightweight gel, with a stronger hold, if that makes sense. Could be too heavy of a product weighing it down. It's so much trial and error. Good luck! ❤️

I think our hair types are similiar. I have always wanted to finger coil my hair but I wasn’t sure if I would have any good results which in end would be a waste of time. You have inspired me! Also, what hairdryer do you use?
If I’m able to get waves/curls in my hair when I scrunch it and it’s wet, does that mean that my hair is naturally wavy? Because according to my hairdresser that could be the case but since my hair is so long and thick it’s not able to keep the waves coz it’s too heavy so it just gets pretty straight. I just wanna know what y’all think 🙃 And I really hope this’ll help my hair stay wavy, thank you!
Yes, same, and I started transitioning. The wave falls less the more you style it wavy/curly. If you want it to hold, use product and pixie diffuse, each time I do it the waves hold just a tiny bit better. But the diffuser is pretty key, years of brushing it straight means it falls flat and funky if I try to air dry. (This is on really damaged fine hair, high density, just past shoulder length. Air drying produces that young Hermione look, but Pixie diffusing gets me close to the 2B/2C that I see when it's wet and freshly scrunched.) Good luck!
Your hair looks great with just scrunching for that beachy look we love but this is a great option for when we want perfect curls. Thx for doing the hard work. Btw been going to your hair stylist in Brookhaven and I noticed we have the same hair cut, love it!
Would it be weird if I tried to schedule an appointment at a salon to have them finger roll or coil my tailbone length curls....after I wash/condition/leave-in etc myself so they don't have to? I'd tip generously for their time, obviously. I don't even want to think about how much time it would take, but the results I'm seeing all over from people trying this out are gorgeous!
Heyyy!!!! I’m so early! Since you might see my comment I just started watching your vids and I decided to stop straightening my hair and now my curls are slowly coming back! Used to be a 2b maybe 2/c now I’m a 2a but hopefully my hair gets curlier again!
Well I did it with pin curls, dry hair with sone curl talk jell! Slept on it! My hair is in a chin length Bob and found my hair was really wavy! It came out great and in the morning I just refreshed it with curl talk curl foam! Btw I am not a young girl!
OK, this is legit the first time I'm around so early. It's hard to leave without dropping a comment. 😂 Your curls look all kinds of Spishaa-like :-p And you've got that signature short hair bounce too. Love this.
I seriously was like “ooh her hair looks like spisha’s” RIGHT BEFORE YOU SAID IT🤣🤣🤣I haven’t finger rolled my hair but I’ve finger coiled and I’ve denman brush coiled my hair and have similar results 😍
Indy will you please do a full product review of the living proof Frias nourishing styling cream shampoo and conditioner and any other stylers that they have on the frizz spectrum please it is a higher brand higher in brand they have a perfect hair day five and one styling treatment but I am really interested in the free is living proof nourishing styling cream line of shampoo and conditioners and mousses and leave in sprays thank you so much hope to see you soon

Dyson or my conair are the 2 I use
(This is on really damaged fine hair, high density, just past shoulder length. hi, what brush do you use?
Omg your hair looks AMAZING!! definitely inspired me to try finger rolling ☺️ I'm also gonna try go blonde next month so this might help keep definition despite the damage
I think if you go blonde this would definitely be helpful to maintain definition 😍
