"OH, I figured it out! OH, I figured it out!!" You are my person and I'm literally laughing out loud.. It's the first video of yours I've seen and I have found my person. Hallelujah.
Finally someone who shows how to start the roll, not just the rolling action! I watched like five videos that claimed to show me how to finger roll and yet they always edit out the part where you get it started. Thank you!!
I’ve been using this method on my hair for years, but I pin the curls in place and let them dry. I basically just do the top layer. I find I get more consistent results this way, rather than putting my hopes on my own waves. Janelle-your hair looks great!
@@cathismith2624 I usually air dry unless I’m very short on time. I use jumbo bobby pins to pin at the base of the curl. Ideally is to pin curl at night and let curls dry overnight. Since the pin curls are on top the of the head only, they are comfortable for sleeping.
@@aprilfoolsbb1 I pin the top section of my hair and the crown. The number of curls depends on how much hair I put in each, but for the top section mentioned there are usually about 9-10 curls. My hair is shoulder length and it takes about 5 min to pin curl that top section. (I’ve timed it. LOL). PS-yes I’ve slept with it this way. It is comfortable because it’s on the top of my head, so I’m not laying on it.
This is called barrel curling, you learn how to do this method in hair school/cosmetology school along with pin curls. You can pin barrel curls by standing them upwards and pinning them at the base of your section or in this case curl, for a wet set and lots of corwn volume. They have special little clips for easy removal when dry at Sally's.
Umm try Looking up double pronged curl clips. They are metal double ponged, and hinged on one end. about the length of a bobby pin. Hope this helps lol.
My grandmother used to do this to me she would put pen curls all over my head and pin them down with bobby pins and I would sleep on them and wake up like curly Sue the next morning 😂😂
This might be a total game changer! Finger coiling has never worked for me. And as someone who's not on IG or TikTok I really appreciate you sharing this. Looking lovely!
My bf has curly hair and over the years without any specific care they’ve gotten looser so I’ve been doing all this research to see how to give him his curls back and this video is super helpful! Absolutely going to give this a try, thank you :)
OMG...this is a game changer! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I stopped coloring my hair just over a year ago and I am mostly salt and pepper with white sections. My greys and whites have never behaved or curled like my natural hair did. I have been struggling to find the right products and techniques to take care of my silvers. I had no idea how difficult this would be. My silvers are dry, unruly and have a mind of their own. The 2 things I tried today upon watching your videos are: damp styling and this coiling technique. I am amazed at the difference. You are the best and I am truly grateful for your postings.
I, like a lot of people, gave myself many a quarantine haircut and I would do this on my bangs/face frame to get it both defined and styled. It totally works and lasts longer when pinned until dry!
I'm not very dextrous but I get similar results using a traditional mini-barrel curling iron (the type with a pincer clip along the length of the barrel) cold... Just rolling the iron horizontally up each curl to the roots, lightly opening the pincer and sliding the iron out sideways.
😊 I can't take credit for it as my mom and grandma did similar when I was little (albeit usually with some heat). It worked then and so when I started to embrace my curls as an adult I gave it a try. I let my hair dry naturally and don't use much products, so sometimes I'll pin a few of the curls up until dry as I find they keep the most definition that way.
@@Dwynfal I love this idea - but as I have never used a curling iron, I don't even own one!! I might have to invest in a really cheap one now!! Thank you 🥰
My favorite technique is doing a hybrid version of finger coiling with my denman brush. So I guess it’s called denman coiling? It creates the most juicy, perfect curls. Highly recommend, y’all.
It’s the same thing to get the same result. It may not come out like a coil because that all depends on your hair porosity. So it’s like the pot calling the kettle black. Literally the same thing.
@@bellagray7974 no not at all it doesn’t give the same result, you should try both and tell me how that works out for u. Coiling gives this dread loc curl effect. Finger rolling gives an actual curl effect.

YES thank you so much for this. I am so excited to try this next wash day! Finger coiling feels like it stretches my curls since they're not very tight OR idk, too "spiraly"? But not like ringlets lol
Yeah these methods elongate the curls which I don’t like either. I use a denman brush after detangling my hair & flip my hair when brushing through from the roots to the ends and that gives tight curls !
Your hair & makeup look so good & I'm loving your grays 🥰 I haven't seen this method before but i haven't had luck in the past finger coiling so I'll give it a try! 😊✌
I have a mix of 3C & 4A curls, and although both of the coiling AND the rolling techniques work for me, I don’t like either, because it elongates my curls and I don’t like that. I’m all for the tight coils my hair naturally gravitates to, so I do the flipping thing with my denman brush from the roots to the ends (after detangling of course) 😁
I have type 2c-3a hair that is also fine like yours... finger coiling could work for you, but with a slightly different technique... Pull the curl firmly with one (probably your less dominant) hand then with the other start finger coiling with an inch or so between your finger and your scalp. Make sure you direct the end of the curl to wrap around your coil ABOVE the finger doing the coiling, almost like you’re folding it in half. The bottom part of the curl gets caught in the coil above your coiling finger and gets winded in. When the end catches, let it go with your one hand while the other continues coiling down until the very end twists through. Not sure if that made ANY sense 😂, but your hair is curly enough that finger coiling can definitely work well for you!
My granny’s hair was a little shorter but she did this every night and used the aluminium clips all over her head and then tied it down with a chiffon scarf and undid it every morning. This video brought me back ❤️
Great to see the result on you. I saw Mell do this on YT but on her hair the coils work better obvi. Your hair is so similar to mine so it was great to see it in action. I'm definitely gonna try it with some of my lazy pieces on the next wash day. :)
