Hello Allie, I've got a chakra system question for you as you are such an expert and explorer. I can't seem to figure out why the chakra teachings in yoga today still don't reflect the fact that since 1781 people are born with 9 energetic centers, not just 7 as it used to be in the past hundreds/thousands of years. I understand the sense of sort of wanting to pass the ancient knowledge in a pure or conservative form, but we physically do evolve as humans, and working with chakras is an applied knowledge that should consider changes in our human "hardware" in order to be really helpful for us on an individual level. Otherwise we're just trying hard to apply the old methods of "cleaning the old big desktop PCs" but are bodies are "updated light portable laptops" already...If you know what I mean. The old 7 chakra method would still work, but I've always felt it's quite incomplete and a little something is missing. Newer teachings like Human Design already work with 9 centers, I feel the yoga world is a little bit behind in this. Did you come across such a thing? What are your thoughts about it?
Thank you for such an insightful question! My personal background and training is with Andoea Judith, who takes the 7 chakra system and pairs it with modern psychology. I feel this approach works best for me, my own personal growth and teaching style as I’m most interested in the psychology tools that yoga can provide. I also believe in not only approaching yoga through the chakras, but holistically by incorporating other yoga systems like the Koshas and Eight Limbs. Yoga is beautiful because of it’s vast and rich history, texts and the lessons these provide. When we approach yoga holistically, it greatly benefits the individual regardless of which approach you take (in my opinion). If the 9 energy centers speak more to you, then I say go that route! I don’t think the yoga world is behind so much as I hope more and more students take a holistic approach, incorporating more of the yoga tradition, into their practice. Yoga is transformative on and off the mat when we dive into more of the teachings it offers. Hope that answers your question, and thank you for being here ❤
