This cover is so true to the original because Anne and Nancy know not to fuck with perfection. Led Zep was a big influence on them, they were why they started playing music
This is actually the edited version, CBS had to fit it into the allotted time slot. There is a video out there of the entire performance, it says “full version” which includes the other verses of the song as well as more reactions from LZ. Ann was 62 and Nancy 58 at this performance, and they’re touring right now at ages 74 and 70!
One thing to remember, the members of Led Zeppelin were in their early twenties when they released this song. So much talent at such a young age. They were probably thinking "I remember doing that in another lifetime".
This song was the last one played at every high school and youth club dance when I was a teenager. (CFB Borden, 1974-78.) I heard it so often, I knew the words by heart before I ever read the lyrics. I fondly remember the awkwardness experienced as the song transitioned from a "slow song" to up-tempo and not knowing whether my dance partner wanted to keep clinched up and just waltz through the whole thing, or move apart and step lively. Then, looking around the dance floor and realizing every other couple was experiencing the same thing. If any one song could be thought of as the background music of my youth, this is it. I never imagined that it could get any better, but then I saw this version on UA-cam. Gets me right in the feels every time.
I dont think he even noticed they started with the small choir then when the song ramped up they lifted the back drop and that huge choir kicked in making this probably the best version anyone will ever see/hear of the song. Heart was always the best at covering Led Zeppelin, they did it all through their career. EPIC PERFORMANCE.
Kennedy center tributes are awesome, famous artists honoring others, some that were honored, sting, billy joel ,elton john, bruce springsteen, paul simon , paul mccartney, all worth listening 👍
Now you know why people suggest this to see and hear. So powerful. Watching the guys get teared up and enjoying every note. Seeing the back choir all wearing bowler hats. Imagine being the guitarist and having to do a Jimmy's solo in front of him, and also looking a bit like Jim Parsons, Sheldon, from Big Bang theory. Such an emotional video for many.
It’s your California grandma, again. I was in tears watching when this was broadcast in 2012. President Obama had selected Led Zeppelin for Kennedy Honors recognition. I was Blessed to see Ann Wilson in her Ann Wilson of Heart Thing solo show in 2017 & 2018 with a backup band of only 4 musicians. She only performed very few Heart songs, but mostly covers of famous songs that held special meaning for her. They were small venues, one only 300 fans. She sounded even more incredible with just these stripped down performances. She just turned 74 and still can slay any song with her one of a kind vocals! I’m finally seeing Heart for the 1st time this December in Sacramento.
You don't have to apologize to not be here all the time. We all have lives outside of you-tube & internet, so it's the same for you. Glad to see you back & have a nice day.

Robert and the guys asked Jason Bonham to join them for this concert not knowing he was going to be IN the concert playing his Dads drums mind you. Jason had to 'decline ' saying he had another engagement he had to attend he couldnt miss. So they were surprised and happy to see him. This was a brilliant performance. Good reaction😊 Get some rest!
Robert & John Bonham were the closest of the band members. They were in band together before Zeppelin. Robert had a son that died from stomach virus in 1977.While the rest of the band stay in Los Angeles during a tour John flew back to England w/ Robert to console the family.Robert tears up because John wasnt there to celebrate with them. Glad you're feeling better
This is THE best tribute to my favorite band Led Zeppelin that I have ever heard. Ann Wilson is THE Rock Goddess. Best female Rock voice still. This was December 2012. Anne was 62, and singing better than almost any young singer of today. Nancy, most known for her guitar playing, is also a great singer. She was 58. Jason Bonham on drums was 46 (John Bonham’s son. John was the drummer for LZ). Imagine playing/singing one of the best known and revered rock songs in history, in front of the guys who actually wrote and performed it in the 1970’s. OMG! Then Shane Fontayne had to play the solo on the electric guitar in front of Jimmy Page, who IMO is the greatest Rock guitarist ever. F*#K! I saw this live on TV and started crying when they started, and was sobbing by the end. The song, the performance, and watching Jimmy, Robert, and John react to it - I’m crying now. Robert has said the tears were because he watched Jason, the son of his best friend and drummer of Led Zeppelin, play this song on his father’s kit. What had been, what could have been had John not died at age 32. Jason had been a baby and little kid during the Zeppelin years. Just simply amazing.
Recommend checking these 2 amazing ladies Live in Seattle. Nancy’s beautiful vocals let her shine in ‘These Dreams’ and Ann blows you away with ‘Alone’ ❤
As much as you can admire her voice, I see that it takes both the Wilson sisters, a rock band, an orchestra & a full blown choir to finally do justice to Robert, Jimmy, JPJ, & John - a mere 4 guys. ❤❤❤❤❤
I have watched that performance over 100 times in the last couple of years, and I well up every time. Spectacular and IMO better than the original. Ann Wilson was about 62 in that show, Nancy Wilson about 59. They are both goddesses. Ann turned 74 this week. The drummer is the son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham who gets a nod with Jason wearing his bowler hat. Apparently the 3 surviving members invited Jason to be their guest, but he said he had prior commitments so it was a shock to them when he appeared onstage. Huge props to whoever arranged this performance. It is incredible, the way it builds. ❤️ You should consider more Heart on this channel. Black On Black II, Crazy On You, Wild Child, Straight On, Alone, Never, and on and on. 😉 Glad you're feeling better ☺️

Jason Bonham on drums, like his dad, and the choir wearing the hats that John Bonham wore
It’s your California
grandma, again.
I cried like a damn fool when I heard this. 😭
You don't have to apologize to not be here all the time. We all have lives outside of you-tube & internet, so it's the same for you. Glad to see you back & have a nice day.
Let the emotion flow, that’s what music is for.
the cut away to Yo-Yo Ma rock’n to Stairway to Heaven says it all. Awesome tribute
I’m 53 and started subscribing to your channel recently. I love seeing younger folks discovering not only the original Stairway to Heaven, but this AWESOME tribute version by Heart. Great reaction, dude!
Good reaction😊
Get some rest!
Jason is Robert's Godson.
Hi Molly the guy on the drums is the son of the original and only drummer for Zeppelin John Bonham whom passed.
Greatest tribute ever. And to have led Zepplin’s original drummer, Jon Bonham’s, son on the drums! EPIC!!!
Heart has done other Led Zeppelin covers. "Rock and Roll" and "Kashmir" come to mind.
Recommend checking these 2 amazing ladies Live in Seattle. Nancy’s beautiful vocals let her shine in ‘These Dreams’ and Ann blows you away with ‘Alone’ ❤
Couldn't agree more. The performance of both songs is awesome. That live version of These Dreams is better than the album version. ❤️
As much as you can admire her voice, I see that it takes both the Wilson sisters, a rock band, an orchestra & a full blown choir to finally do justice to Robert, Jimmy, JPJ, & John - a mere 4 guys. ❤❤❤❤❤
I told you! Heart also covered Zep’s Battle of Evermore. Jason Bonham is the son of the late John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin
You're not wrong when you say its the best tribute of a band ever. Heart nailed it!
Best cover of all time!!! Kennedy center honors are known for the absolutely great performances!!
Bro you gotta check out hearts song with Layne Staley “Ring them bells”
Wow I never knew that existed cool...as a female in her 60's I wasn't a big Heart fan...but add Layne can't go wrong right ? 💚🖤
To be a rock, and not to roll! one of my favorite all time lyrics
I also like the cover of “ Immigrant Song” by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
Check out the vid of Ann Wilson doing it!
EPIC Classic tribute to the greatest rock band ever!!
Led Zeppelin 🎵🎷🎸
The entire ceremony is definitely worth the watch. I think you will love seeing it from start to finish.
You should go listen to the whole tribute!!! It's amazing!!!🎵🎼🎶🎙🎧🎸🎤🎹🔥🔥🔥🥁🥁
You should consider more Heart on this channel. Black On Black II, Crazy On You, Wild Child, Straight On, Alone, Never, and on and on. 😉
Glad you're feeling better ☺️
If you're going to perform that song in public, you want to be an exceptional artist. If you're going to perform that song in public in front of the guys who wrote it, performed it and made it famous, you'd want to be phenomenal. THEY WERE!
Yes, this was an absolutely stellar arrangement and performance. I've watched many times. Ann Wilson also does a great cover of Immigrant Song. Also the drummer is the son of the late John Bonham, original drummer of Led Zeppelin. 👍👍👍
I can't imagine playing a Zep song in front of Zep. Pressure. Amazing tribute.
Ann at 62 and Nancy at 58 when the Kennedy Center honored Led Zeppelin in 2012. Some people have really good genes. Beautiful and ageless… incredible
Bad Wolves does a tribute to The Cranberries song Zombie that is absolutely amazing. Back story, Bad wolves asked to cover her song and the lead singer Dolores O'Riordan was going to sing on it with them but she passed away the night before.
Darlin, I've watched this at least 30 times, cry every frickin time.
❤😊
One of the Best Covers Ever!
