For this award ceremony, Led Zeppelin had invited Jason Bonham to sit in the seats of honor with them, in memory of his father John, but Jason refused, saying he was on tour. That's why when he arrived on stage he pointed to LZ and they responded, the surprise had succeeded perfectly. On this occasion Jason played the drums that his father had played in Led Zeppelin and wore the same hat as the one he wore
Hey Ladies! By far the best cover of Stairway EVER!!! Ann and Nancy are unbelievable! Jason on drums pours his heart into his sticks. Great job by the choir and the other musicians! 5 stars!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍😎
The drummer is Jason Bonham-the son of John Bonham who was Led Zeppelin’s drummer. This was a surprise for,the band as they were told that Jason couldn’t make it. No way he was going to miss this opportunity to honour his late father. He was playing for him.
Heart and Ann & Nancy are Legends in their own right ! And to be doing probably the Best song from a Iconic Legendary band like Led Zeppelin. In front of the remaining band member's. Not to mention the President of the United States ! Heart knocked this out of the park !! Absolutely Amazing !!
You express yourself so well Donna! Indeed, this was most likely the most iconic rock song ever. And hearing Heart, my favorite female rock band ever performing it was awesome!
Heart | Stairway To Heaven ... This my 2nd favorite Kennedy Center video. #1 is when Aretha Franklin surprised Carol King with the song that Carol wrote for her ... Aretha Franklin You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman Kennedy Center Honors 2015 ...
This was awesome. Want confirmation? Look at the tears in Robert Plant's eyes and the interaction with Jason Bonham! Ann Wilson has a fantastic voice and did this justice.
To be able to cover a masterpiece like this before the original esteemed artists, and not only cover it but knock out of the universe. Jason did his daddy proud. The only thing about this is Ann and Nancy will never be able to top this performance.
Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. This is one of the best tributes to Led Zeppelin with Ann & Nancy doing the classic song "Stairway To Heaven". No one else could have pulled it off as well. "Heart" have had so many great hits such as "Magic Man", "Crazy On You", "What About Love", "Never", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams", "Alone" etc.
I'm not sure if this was already mentioned, but Ann Wilson was 62 years old at the time of this tribute, and she was fighting the flu. What a set of pipes!
If you like seeing the honoree being blown away by the performance, you have to watch Aretha Franklin's tribute to Carole King, singing "Natural Woman". Not only is the performance spectacular, but Carole King's reaction is priceless; she can hardly stay in her seat. Even President Obama is wiping tears from his eyes.
when i saw Heart back in the 80s, they did a cover of Zeppelin's Been a Long Time Since Rock and Roll as their encore, and Nancy killed it on the guitar.
In interviews, Ann and Nancy have said that Led Zeppelin was a big influence on them growing up. They've covered a number of Zeppelin songs, in fact when I saw them at Convention Hall in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on August 16th, 1977, they closed the show with "Rock and Roll". In case that date is unfamiliar, it was the day Elvis died, and they did that in honor of the King. We found out while waiting outside to go in. Someone had a transistor radio, and the station made the announcement. In an interview, Ann and Nancy said that they were terrified to do this song in front of the guys. They were the final act and went out and just nailed it p. Afterwards, at a dinner, they were sitting with Robert, Jimmy and John and Robert said he hated people covering this song, but they did an amazing job with it.
Great reaction .. I know you're always looking for awesome live videos .. one band you need to check out is The Who .. specifically Won't Get Fooled Again (1978 shepperton studios)!
This video is Awesome. Ann and Nancy still Rock.Led Zeppelin were proud of Ann and Nancy. Heart is on tour right now. Ann is 73 and Nancy is 70 now. Ann's birthday is June 19th. Ann and Nancy were both nervous and I have their book.
My favorite part of this is when the full choir was revealed and Jimmy says, “Wow! Fvck!” Followed by Robert turning to JPJ with a smile and a nod of pleasure.
No one understood any better than Zeppelin's three still living legends being honored, I.E., Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, & John Paul Jones that this wasn't a cover............it was a compliment! Very nice touch having Jason Bonham, son of the late, great John Bonham, fill his spot on the drums that night.
This is the best cover of Led Zeps famous Stairway to Heaven. Even with these exceptional artists, no match for the real one. But it is propably the greatest and best cover of all Zeppelinsongs ever. And that Bonzos son played the drums is the greatest thing.
From what I understand, the choirs and orchestra had been practicing for weeks, but the Wilson sisters were on tour. They flew up, had one run through that morning, then went on and tore it up!
Yes, and all through the rehearsals it was a different drummer (I believe it was Dave Grohl?), so the surprise was Jason appearing on stage - he had to come up with an excuse, as he was meant to be sitting with LZ, hence their reaction!
I remember thinking, "Out of all the times Led Zeppelin has played this song, I wonder how often they've gotten to sit down and see what a spectacle it really is. And, of course, the Wilson sisters never disappoint.
OMG I am crying. I grew up to this. I have lost friends from Here in Ohio and the U.S. Army. We listened to this together. Heart did this song Justice. I remember drinking beer and listening to Led Zeppelin .
Love your reactions to Heart and this particular song I just wish you could have viewed the full version of the performance. I guess the shorten version is a more widely circulated video for it seems most reactions use this video. Never the less I am glad you were able to watch this legendary performance to honor such a Legendary Band.
Back in the 70's when you tried a guitar out in a music store, many of them insisted you don't play Stairway "and also posted signs" because it was done to the point of overkill, that's how popular the guitar riff was.....
I have been a long time fan of Heart. In fact the first time I saw them they were the opening act to a Canadian group called April Wine. I was so impressed by Heart I started following right then and there. P.S. They did an Awesome job Honoring the remaining members of Led Zeppelin.
This is such a fantastic rendition of this song and you have Jason Bonham on the drums while his father‘s other three band mates are in the balcony is just priceless. Jason is a serious drummer on his own , when Led Zep use to do sound check sometimes Jason as a kid would play the drums wile his dad would listen. Saw & randomly met Jason before a show not knowing who he was about 10 years ago with my daughter. Just thought he was a really nice guy standing next to me who knew a lot about drumming & wanted to talk about music. I had no clue until he got on stage . 😂.
Yeah, but they cut out part of the guitar solo in this 6 min shortened version. Nobody plays the 8 min version, presumably because this one has the most views.
Great response gals, great reaction. In your spare time try to watch the entire tribute to Led Zeppelin, it's worth the watch. Legendary Led Zeppelin and Heart it does get any better.
Great reaction! Nobody ever reacts to the other artists singing the other Zeppelin songs from this tribute. Kid Rock and Lenny Kravitz performances were fantastic too.
The TV special/DVD "No Quarter - Jimmy Page & Robert Plant Unledded" has tremendous reworkings of Zeppelin songs from lean, bare-bones versions to full orchestral accompaniment. Both Page and Plant are at the top of their game, and a lot of the songs top the original recorded versions. Not a bad song in the set, with "Thank You", "Since I've Been Loving You", "The Battle Of Evermore", "Kashmir", and "Nobody's Fault But Mine" all unforgettable. You'll be blown away by any of those, guaranteed.
CBS edited this to fit into the amount of time of the TV show. There’s a full length version that includes all the verses and some additional reactions from both LZ and the audience.
I loved the band's reactions to watching this tribute. Jimmy Page was beaming like a proud daddy. Robert Plant was inscrutable at first, like a professor grading the song. But then he leans way forward and wipes away a tear at the end. John Paul Jones was just grooving along the whole song.
Plant was Jason's Godfather, and helped him a lot after his father's passing, hence the love between them. Also John Paul Jones had worked with Heart on occasion.
Heart | Stairway To Heaven ... The Bowler Hats were a tribute to John Bonham. It was hard for his son Jason to come up with excuses as to why he couldn't be there. It was to be a surprise that he would be taking his father's place on drums. The best version in my opinion will always be the original studio version. They nailed it and that is the reason it became the most requested song in history as of 2005. (Except for Happy Birthday ...Source---> Casey Kasem 2005 year end count down.)
The Kennedy Center Honors are the highest lifetime achievement award in the performing arts given in the US. They're awarded on behalf of the President (Obama in this case, as you saw,) and are meant to be like an American version of awards given out by the Queen or King of England, like the Order of the British Empire. Ironically for a British band, Led Zeppelin has received the Kennedy Center Award but not the OBE.
Some days all you need is a little Ann and Nancy Wilson in your day! And to pay this great of an homage to such a legendary band. Robert Plant always hated when other bands cover their songs but you can see that at the end Robert is in tears. Jason Bonham wearing his dad’s trademark boller hat. Then the choir paying homage with boller hats as well.
Robert Plant and John Bonham were very close friends and he has known Jason since he was born, so it would have been very emotional to see the "kid" drumming in tribute to his dad and his old friends. Stairway was very far from being Robert's favourite LZ song, but he clearly recognised that Heart made a good job of interpreting it.
Woohoo I'm like #110 😮 Done seen my Notifiablee!! So HEART 💖 was a Led Zeppelin cover band back when. Ann freaking nailed it!! Great Channel Ladies!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
To this day seeing Heart in the mid 80s in Sacramento is in my top 3 concerts, I've been to 75 to 80 shows. They are simply incredible. Ann and Nancy Wilson take a back seat to nobody. Ann can raise the roof off of any building she performs, God All Mighty she can sing - WHOA. Ann and Nancy paying tribute to one of the greatest bands of all time, singing prolly the greatest rock n roll song of all time is a treat not soon forgotten.
Nancy has such a beautiful and graceful voice. This is an amazing performance. I think Robert and Jimmy were blown away. Thanks for the reaction ladies. Enjoy the journey - cheers
The word “epic” is likely overused to describe things, especially online, but in this case it’s a total fit. The sheer amount of players and instruments that went into this performance is amazing. Too many great parts to even count. Then to raise the curtain and have an army of a choir on top of Ann Wilson’s awesome singing… yup. Epic.
Awesome reaction 3G But you need to check out some of the other performers that played songs during this honoring of Led Zeppelin although this Heart cover of Stairway to Heaven is what everyone always picks , there were other performers such as Kid Rock , Lenny Kravitz, The Foo Fighters did some killer cover of Led Zeppelin songs just to name a few and they are definitely worth checking out for real 🎯💯 Keep up the good work 👍🏼 3G 🌹👏🏼🔥✌🏼
I sure am enjoying your videos, ladies. You are all such charmers in your own individual ways. I only came across you yesterday, and I've probably watched about half of your videos already, so I guess that means I'm a fan. Or, as Donna says, "I LIKE IT!!" Best wishes!

Led Zeppelin is well known for disliking covers of this song, but when seated with Heart at the dinner after this, they told them that they really liked the performance.
Great reaction... again!!! 🙂 This is such a great version of this song. It took me further into the Kenedy Center Honors songs. One also really, really liked was The Piano Man from Bilky Joel, sung by Rufus Wainright in 2013. You should definitely listen to that one!!! 🙂
The only other 'honours performance' that I personally feel is even in the same conversation is the George Harrison honour performance of 'As my Guitar Gently Weeps' with... well... pretty much everyone including Prince.
I get so emotional nowadays, I suppose it's because I'm in the golden years in my life and these type of performances bring me to tears.
It’s ok Melissa. Me too😢
This has best been described as rock legends singing the music of rock gods in front of the rock gods.... & absolutely nailing the hell out of it.
Hey Ladies! By far the best cover of Stairway EVER!!! Ann and Nancy are unbelievable! Jason on drums pours his heart into his sticks. Great job by the choir and the other musicians! 5 stars!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍😎

The greatest cover version of a song it's utterly amazing

For them to still deliver this monumental cover at that point in their already very long careers is just awesome and I take my hat off for that!
Ann best female voice of rock for me ever. Perfect for this tribute.

You gals will love the whole tribute. All the band did a good job with cover and Jack Black had a great memory montage.

BEST. COVER. EVER. !!!
You're absolutely right about this song being of the most iconic songs of all time. And didn't Heart and the ensemble cast do it justice.
I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHAT ANN WILSON CAN DO❤
Kashmir by Led Zeppelin or Fool In The Rain by Led Zeppelin. Magic Man or Barracuda by Heart.
This was also a low-key tribute to John Bonham because his son and the choir wore the same hat that John often wore.
Heart & LZ match made in heaven.❤🤘🇮🇹

A great reaction to this classic song and moment! Loved it!
Heart is the best to cover Zep to me. Jason is the icing on the cake.
Heart does an amazing cover of Kashmir.

This event/concert was hosted by Jack Black...... The whole concert is worth a listen......
