Congratulations. You just listened to the greatest cover in the history of music.
yeah he listened without hearing... he doesnt know a damn thing on what the words actually mean, which is why this song exists in the first place.
This is the best cover of Simon & Garfunkel…goosebump worthy.
Yes. That part. Goosebumps every damn time. 😊
paul simon said that it is now a disturbed song. no higher praise.
@@julieb.5860 Indeed
Pentatonix does a great sound of silence too
If you only listen to this song one time you don't have a pulse .
i about died laughing when he said " i wont listen again because its to slow"...
I'll bet you'll listen to it again!
Ive listened to it i think about 50 times since first seeing it a month ago!!!! Love it!!!
There is a live version of this song that Disturbed performed on Conan O'Brien's show a few years ago. Check it out, you won't be disappointed! Cheers!
So funny. I’ve listened to this at least 3000 + .
It rare that I prefer a cover over the original but this is by far the best cover I’ve ever heard. This coming from an old school, hardcore 70’s Simon and Garfunkel fan. Fell in love with it when it first came out. Still gives me goose bumps.
Edit for nitpickery: The original artist Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel heard this cover and said it's his song now xD The original was a warning with a hopeful outlook, and disturbeds cover was the rage that warning was not heeded
Simon said that NOT Garfunkel
@@rubyfuselier2925 🤡
@@rubyfuselier2925 Neither said it belongs to them. I wish this piece of gossip would go away..
Agreed, the rumor needs to go away, however the comparison between the two versions was spot on.
The original from Simon & Garfunkel was written and performed as a warning to the world. This version is after it’s gone to shit and is a “told you so”.
Love it
I think the original is an observation; this one is a call to action.
This is the first time ive ever heard this cover, or the band for that matter. Im completely broken. I have to go somewhere and really let this cry out now because it physically hurts to hold it in. PHENOMENAL 🖤
You have GOT to watch them perform this live on Conan O'Brien. It's amazing to see. AND David was sick AF during the performance and was STILL amazing!
YES!!!
Came here to say this!
Absolutely! His playing it on Conan while down with the sickness gave it a nasally quality that seemed to make it even better.
David Draiman... one of the best voices out there. You really can't hear what he can do with his voice unless you listen to this song. David Draiman..... a powerful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which goes straight through you to your very soul! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before........just hauntingly beautiful. An awesome talent.....he can do things with his voice that blows my mind. Loved your reaction and your take on the performance .....David can make you cry or give you goosebumps or BOTH! His voice goes right through you!
David was trained as a cantor in his youth. Also, he continuously takes voice lessons. His voice is incredible!!
Johny cash...Hurt. Cover of Nine inch Nails song
Yes, Yes, Yes
And, another "yes!"
Absolutely. Please react to this.
It’s a moving rendition - very good.
And be prepared for millions of goosebumps while listening and reacting to Hurt by Johnny Cash ;o)
I'm 73 and I love that cover, it sends shivers down my back, I listen to it loads, especially watching people's reactions, I've not heard a bad word for it, except from my friend, he can't stand it...he's got some weird tastes!
When David opens his eyes on the word " vision"....just, wow ! He looks straight into your soul
From the first time I saw the video, I noticed that, and it has stuck in my head so much I watch for it as the song starts.
So powerful.
As for "not listening to it again"...yeah, don't bet on that. Looked like he was going to cry - which is not a criticism at all, it's a testament to the energy and emotion that David put into his voice.
And if that sound punched you in the gut, try Zombie by the Cranberries. That'll also get you.
David Draiman's voice is so damn powerful. Really awesome that you covered this.
They made this their own.. from a light catchy song to a deep dark meaningful anthem.
Light catchy? ok you probably like Aerosmith
@@opencarrier8607 compared to this, the original was
I've always hated the original because the lyrics are so juxtaposed to the sound S&G put out.
It wasnt until this version that the brleauty of the song wroting was evident for me. @opencarrier8607
In every way possible, this is a masterpiece.
That’s possibly the most powerful goosebump inducing vocal ever. The way he builds up to it while giving you goosebumps all the way to the end. Incredible?
When they released this song. Garfunkel ( one of the original artist) contacted these guys and said after hearing their version if this song, it is now his and forever will be. That is how impressed he was with this version.
Paul Simon, not Artie.
Neither, Paul added it to his playlist
Paul Simon contacted them, highest honor from an original artist anyone could EVER get
MollyBoy: His voice is mad!
Me: just wait 😏
it's good to build this respect for david early. he's incredible. it's lost on a lot of people how talented he really is.
This version somehow captures the quiet anger of the lyrics in a way that the original didn't. Its so good that Paul Simon gave it his blessing...and that's high praise. It's just amazing.
I LOVED your face and this reaction! The original is nothing like this. They really can't be compared. Different times. I prefer this one. When I first saw it I was covered in goosebumps and crying at the same time. David's voice is outstanding! I'm SO GLAD you watched this and felt it so hard. Thanks!
Welcome young fella. We love this. And we lived young with the original.
I like this cover. His gravelly voice at the end was great. It is a very emotionally driven song. Goosebumps! 🤘🏼💋
I've never enjoyed someone reacting to music so much! Absolutely obsessed with your reactions. I hope there will be more disturbed soon (The Game, The Animal, Voices would be my personal suggestions)
Keep it up 🔥🔥🔥
Part of the reason he did this was to show people that he actually has a voice & range & not just gravel & scream like he usually does.
Also, I think this song, the way he does it, speaks to the soul. It reaches deeper than most songs. It speaks to the soul even if you don’t understand the words though the meaning is just as intense. It is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard in my opinion. And oh I love his voice & how deep it is. 😊 Great video 😊
I've heard this version hundreds of times and every time, I get goosebumps. Its crazy powerful. My recommendation for next Disturbed song is 10,000 Fists. That is definitely more your style!
I kept wanting to say, Wait For It. I have contributed about 100 of those 900 million views. This is the best cover of all time. Runner up is Johnny Cash's cover of hurt.
Another great cover is also by Disturbed (they include a cover on every album) sounds more like Down With the Sickness. It's called Land of Confusion. The original was a great song in It's own right, by Genesis. Disturbed took it to the next level.
Third for me would be Bad Wolves cover of Zombie by The Cranberries.....
Heart, Stairway
@@dedfishermen985 you're not wrong.
@SotonCueMan part of what made the original so great was the context and experience of the band. They did a great job remaking it though.
I love the cover of Land of Confusion AND I love the original. What a comparison that would be! Please do it!
fascinating song and rendition! The original by Paul Simon (Simon and Garfunkel) was unbelievably iconic in the 60s...so it had a LOT of weight behind it already, but then this version blew up huge and Paul Simon even shouted David Drayman out on Twitter in approval and appreciating after he did it live on Conan O'Brien's show... you owe it to yourself to listen to the original as well even if you don't react to it...both are ASTOUNDING---GREAT REACT!!!!!
one of my top 10 all time faves, one of the best singers on earth!
Another great cover that surpasses the original would be Johnny Cash‘s cover of Nine Inch Nails “Hurt” - It would be awesome to see you do them back-to-back. Keep em coming 🤘
Man i cannot wait to see you react to this......its amazing
This is actually better than the original, and the original was great.
No, it isn't. The original is so vulnerable. But to each his own
@@user-dg4ly6rb5z true
@@user-dg4ly6rb5z I understand the significance of the original,it's not lost on me.
@@user-dg4ly6rb5z Yes, it is by a mile.
Naw homie
Land of confusion. 🔥
Now here is a disturbed cover I can get behind. Device cover of Wish is badass too. Device is Drainmans industrial side band
Yep much better cover than this. This was boring
meh, In Flames covered it better.
@@tubelious didn't know they did a cover of it. Disturbed does a good cover though. Made it their own
@@theOGnokk I like it better, because it preserves the more of the original melody. It is actually rather straight fwd but just inflamesified... ua-cam.com/video/mBxlqbxyJwc/v-deo.html
STRONG EMOTIONAL SONG
In Poland this song have additional meaning... we all know it because it was played as goodbye song for Paweł Adamowicz, president of Gdańsk city who was killed by crazy policical fanatic during biggest polish charity event WOŚP in 2019... R.I.P.
This is one of the greatest songs ever I don't care, masterpiece
I love watching a reaction from a young person hearing this for the first time. It's moving and powerful.
Disturbed's cover of Land of Confusion is excellent. I saw them live earlier this year. They are amazing live.
Another amazing cover
Disturbed makes amazing covers, "Shout 2000", "land of confusion", "living after midnight " all of them are great covers
David Draiman does Not use auto tune.
This is stated in multiple reaction videos by Professional Vocal Coaches.
David is simply an outstandingly talented classically trained vocalist, a virtuoso of the very finest kind.
It’s great watching someone enjoying the music of my youth. My Uncle introduced me to queen in 1971 at 8 and that was it, two decades of the greatest musicians anyone could wish for.
Enjoy your journey my friend.
do the live Conan version - amazing. And then you learn he was ill when he did that performance.
Literally just came to the comments to find this one lol...facts 💯
You should re-watch the video now without the pressure of doing your reaction video and thoroughly enjoy the lyrics, his voice, and the artistic visual of the video. It will calm you. This singer is one of the best human beings walking the planet right now. I've seen how he treats people, how humble he is, I've listened and watched him talk about his trials with drug and alcohol addiction and how honestly and respectfully he treats people dealing with the same issues and his compassion and empathy BLOWS my mind. Truly a wonderful human being. He was trained to be a classical opera singer but became a death/heavy metal singer instead and the Sound of Silence showcases his classical training... AMAZING! and a role model for my sons and daughter.
Imo, the best cover song ever done. This one is fire!
I loved your reaction! Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️ the live version is even better!
Another DISTUBED cover that rocks is PHIL COLLINS "LAND OF CONFUSION". It's much more in their style. The video is also awesome. It's animated by Todd MacFarlane, creator of Spawn and KORN's "Freak on a leash".
This version brings depth and meaning to an airy fairy song - and I get goosebumps every time I hear it!!
Suggestions: 1) The cover of "Zombie" by Bad Wolves (original by The Cranberries.)
2) The cover of "Stairway to Heaven" by Heart, performed at the Kennedy Center Honors. Led Zeppelin--the original artists--are in attendance, and the camera spends a lot of time showing their reactions. Jason Bonham, the drummer for Heart's performance, is the son of John Bonham, the drummer for Led Zeppelin, who died in 1980 (his death is the reason the band broke up.)
I know you get tons of suggestions and it takes time to go through them and react to them. Volbeat is a danish band with a huge catalog of music. Id love to see you react to Still Counting. They are a great band and this song will make you a Volbeat fan for sure.
He's pretty enthusiastic about a song he said he won't listen to again ;)
We just watched this kid grow up a little bit right in front of our eyes.
Good for you, MollyBoy- love you being open to something so far outside your normal genre'
There's a whole wide world of music he hasn't begun to touch.
Maybe Wish You Were Here, or Shine On- live versions? See what a concert was.
I wonder what hip hop/rap songs will still being played in 2065...
Their live performance of this song is actually even better
From 5:10 onwards, you were simply stunned into silence! I'm old enough to remember the original coming out in the 1960s, and hearing this version for the first time had the same effect on me! WTF - Magnificient! Also, I DO believe you will go back and listen to it again, in spite of what you said early on. It's that compulsive. Congratulations on a superb reaction, from the older generation to the younger generation.
I'm 75yo and had the privilege of hearing Simon & Garfunkel live in Natchiotches Louisiana at NSU. 3 foot high stage and maybe 800 young student's sitting on the floor. Couple of years ago I heard Disturbed forcefully rendering S&G's version obsolete.
I absolutely love your reactions. It’s evident you are watching your videos raw. ❤️❤️
Seen him perform it live in Chicago...amazing!!
They have some amazing ballads that show David's range: Hold onto The Memories, Darkness, there are more but I can't think of them.
So other great covers: Bad Wolves' cover of The Cranberries' "Zombie", Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's "Hurt", and I Prevail's cover of "Blank Space".
That was a great reaction! Godsmacked indeed especially knowing what was ahead as I watched you. Blowout!
One of the greatest songs of all time and the cover is sublime
Last Resort (reimagined) by Falling in Reverse. Papa Roach cover (do both)
I second this suggestion.
In an interview about the making of this cover he said something about how he usually puts his own twist on the covers, but this time he decided it sounded better as is. His voice is deeper and a different "texture" to S&G
Hi, MB. Im abt 15 vids behind but going stright to this one first.
Draiman was a Cantor as a child. He had a religious upbringing but moved away from religion early on "rebelling" etc.
Theres an interview with Draiman talking abt how they approached this song. Very good viewing. Draiman hates autotune and insists no autotune be used on any record and the same applies here although some producers have heard the stems of his isolated vocals and claim they hear autotune. Either way, if it is used its very subtle. The live version of this on the Conan show (i think) had very slight autuotune at Draimans disgust. He was ill and the producers of the show put autotune on. It wasnt needed really and he was gutted abt it. Anyway, the original version has its own feel and flavour. Disturbed took it to a newer, almost updated feel. His vox are amazing. Anyway, cheers 🤘🏻
Art Garfunkel who wrote this song says that Disturbed now owns the song. He said that there has never been a cover that is better.
Disturbed The Light and A Reason to Fight are awesome.
I saw Disturbed last fall for the first time. I cried while they played this song.
Seen disturbed in concert they play this l had freaking goosebumps in the arena
you should check out the version that they did live on the Conan show. It was amazing. It will blow your mind. He had the flu when he sang. But the proformance was amazing.
Me again.I LOVED your reaction ! 😊
This rendition is a banger!! Amazing!
Hey saw Disturbed live a few days ago and they had “sound of silence “in there set , there was the most diverse crowd at the concert I’ve seen anywhere, from kids to grannies to head bangers
You will listen to it again.
I've watched a plethora of reactions to this, and still, yes still get goose bumps everytime. I've never listened to anything else by Disturbed, I don't want to ruin this one. I just God damn love it! It gets into your soul!
Great reaction my man. I'll be keeping an eye out for more from you.
Disturbed is just an amazing band all around. One of the very few...
Live version on Conan is a MUST see!!
I just subbed after some review. This journey that your going to go on is going to be an authentic awakening and I am going to be here for it. Disturbed are their own genre of music, they can put out original bangers as well as do cover songs and take their quality to a whole new level, which is not easily done by artists these days or ever in general
GREEN HELL ALREADY!! Mad love from Oklahoma!!
Last Caress
MollyBoy - You got caught up in the vortex and rode the wave in your mind. Hope you enjoyed the journey! For a few minutes, you were on a personal trip and the enviroment around you just disappeared. I love it when reaction channels pause early in the reaction to make some statement like "it is too slow" only to be blown away later beyond their wildest expectations.
Sound of Silence by Disturbed Live tv Conan 03/28/16❤ Amazing
I do looove this version!!! It’s a gritty soulful sound.. it shows the poetry of Simon and Garfunkels music! Amazing!!
When you fully understand the message in the song, it makes this version all the more Epic.
Goosebumps🤘🏼 You got it😁
This is my 2nd fav cover song.
My fav is Nightwish with their tribute/cover of Pink Floyds High Hopes - its fire.
3rd is Bad Wolves cover of The Cranberries song Zombie. Really great.
Love, love his vocals, he made this cover of a iconic classic into a work of art. Alessia Cara & The Warning - "Enter Sandman" Best cover Ive heard. Thanx. Peace
David is one of the best singers in the world IMHO. And a great person
This became my favorite song the first time i heard it, it still is😊
Disturbed are amazing! Definitely watch the Conan performance to see it live! David was hella sick, but absolutely slayed it!! For another epic cover, I highly recommend the cover of Papa Roach’s song Last Resort by Falling in Reverse!! Talk about EPIC!!
DAY 32:
Lorna Shore-The Pain Remains I, II &III Trilogy
And OR....
Lorna Shore-Hellfire
The original was sung by Simon and Garfunkel. Paul Simon wrote it; it's about the growing loss of communication between people. No one listening to each other. Art Garfunkel has the voice of an angel and the songs is soft and sad. But the impact of the lyrics was lost in the beauty of the vocals. David Draiman brought this song to a new level. Instead of soft vocals giving a warning about the darkness of miscommunication; David draws us into the story with the sadness of black/white visuals and melancholy vocals. The erosion of musical instruments on one side of the chasm and the unearthing of written music on the other side. As the story plays on he is getting angrier as the warning is not heeded and the musicians travel to find voices. In the end the musicians find the vocalists and sail across the chasm to bring us music to communicate with. A brilliant story, and to me, the truth behind music.
Definitely check out more from these guys!
Freakin fantastic!!!❤❤ love this version... only one i listen to now. ❤
At the time the original was written by Simon and Garfunkel, neon lights were going up all over, TV's became more important and took up more time, radios could be held in the palm of the hand for the first time. S & G wrote this as a warning about how people were not communicating with each other like before. Disturbed's version is the anger at the warning not being heeded.
David is trained in classical style. It doesn’t show up much in Disturbed’s songs, even though it actually does. We tend to think of the hard rock riffs and flow that Disturbed brings, but David’s vocals truly are the shining moment in their music whether we actually recognize it at first or not.
Best cover I've ever heard (and I'm 77).
I cry every time I hear HIM sing this song. The first time I ever heard “ The sound of silence “ was when I was a teenager 40+ years ago. It was sung by Simon and Garfunkel and was totally different. This is way better
Love your reaction.
Greatest. Cover. Ever. 🔥🔥🔥
You have to compare it to the original. This version captures the true meaning behind the song than the original because of its dark rendition
Yep…the original was a warning to us humans…this song is beyond that…
Good lord... this ones a Beauty!! I apreciate All music, old ,new, in-between and covered!! Most bands have a ballad or two & those were incredible to hear. Some were anthems & some turned into anthems! This song live is absolute fire 🔥 Thanks Mollyboy i truly enjoyed it!! ❤️🔥😊
David Draimen is a trained cantor. His grandfather started his vocal training when David was 3 years old.
Perfect cover of a classic song .
Of all of the songs they have covered this one is my favorite.
Now you MUST WATCH "Amazing Grace" by Dan Vasc. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Classic from Simon and Garfunkel. Yah this is a great song so powerful and many layers of metaphors to the video . Great reaction ! Best of luck buddy , from Texas !
