      Total metalhead and Minnesotan born and raised. I didn't get exposed to music like this much until about 1987. I was 10 years old and heard Prince all the time and liked the music but didn't/couldn't truly appreciate it because I was just a kid. Then metal came into my life and other music faded away for a while. Prince though, is on a completely different playing field when it comes to greatest MUSICIANS of all time. At least for modern music, no one comes close to the level of Prince. Period. It's not even a debate. In my extremely humble opinion...

    Prince was our Mozart, he mastered over 14 instruments by age 17, he could dance, sing any note, rap, he wrote, arranged, performed ALL his music, including wrote hits for other artists, he has covered almost every genre, Metal, Punk rock, hip hop, pop, r&b, soul, jazz, blues, country, ambience, classical, techno, house, instrumental, meditation. The Multi-Genre God. He could play anything, and your favorite artists have been deeply influenced by him. Corey Taylor, Whitney Houston, Steve Vai, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lil uzi vert, H.E.R. , Paul Mccartney, all worship Prince to just name a few.
    Prince recorded his first 2 albums at 16 all by himself, all instruments, lyrics, arrangement, composition & vocals were all by him. He was such a prodigy, that music executives wanted proof, they would fly across country just to see if he could really play all instruments, because it was so unheard of. Prince has over 50 official released albums and when he passed, they found over 10 thousand unreleased Prince music in his vault. He then came into the business and was the FIRST to fight for artists rights, and he WON. He would write "slave" on his cheek and go to meetings protesting against the industry. Prince was also one of the first artists to sell his music on the internet. You are talking about the most talented artist we will ever see.

As well he didn't have the advantage of the guitar technology and guitar body builds of the last 15 years. For his time though Hendrix was obviously incredibly phenomenal....with the tools that Prince and other musicians of our era have had at their disposal Hendrix would have outdone his 60s self.

    Prince was a musical savant. On some of his earlier albums he played every instrument for each song and mixed it for the entire record. For this performance, Rolling Stones had just put out their top 100 guitarist of all time and left Prince off the list. Tom Petty invited Prince to play at this Rock n Roll HOF performance for George Harrison's induction, and this was Prince's way of giving the critics the middle finger.

    Yes, Prince can shred!! He could play 20+ instruments, played every instrument, wrote and produced many of his albums alone (with a recording engineer), could dance his ass off, was a charismatic, energetic, captivating performer, wrote hit songs for other artists, really a genius...and I don't say that lightly.

    This is a performance where every single person on the stage is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame level artist and Prince makes everyone of their jaws drop in awe. It is a phenomenal performance by one of the most prolific songwriters (hundreds of hits for himself and other artists) and most incredible performers of all time.

    This is a performance that everyone should see. A phenomenal song with exceptional performers, and it obviously showcased Prince's virtuosity on the guitar. There was this joke that when Prince got done playing...the guitar needed a cigarette. LOL. He was truly a prodigy.

    Tom Petty is the blonde singer/guitarist. Jeff Lynde from ELO was the with voice you liked. Both friends of George. George's son, Dhani is up there,too.

      Obviously, just from these comments there is a discrepancy in how many instruments Prince could play. I've seen 17 up to now you say 27. I know he played the piano, but he was a master of the guitar.

    • @tracynorman1455
      @tracynorman1455 4 місяці тому +2

      @tootz1950 he could play a lot of instruments. He was a master piano, bass and drum player too. It’s widely printed as 27 because I think that is how many he used in making his first couple of albums which he did all himself. To some people they say piano and keyboards are the same and to others they are different instruments. Then you have the wide range of percussion instruments.

    • @thetruthhurtsu
      @thetruthhurtsu 4 місяці тому

      @@tootz1950in the 80’s it was 21 instruments. By 2016 the numbers could have gotten hire. Also his albums were written arranged composed and produced by #Prince except where indicated.

    Thanks for covering this tribute. Jeff Lynne was the lead singer for ELO - Electric Light Orchestra. A favourite song by ELO is Mr. Bluesky. Prince showboats in true American style and steals the show. RIP Prince, and Tom Petty and George Harrison. - C
