- Hey everyone!
Here is a video of how I troubleshoot my garage door not opening when I hit the remote from my car. Please let me know if you have any questions. Please consider subscribing if you find these videos helpful

This was my memorial day weekend project after our sensors went on the Fritz. I can't tell you how many other UA-cam videos I watched until I found yours on Saturday night. Finally, I just finished fixing ours. The real gotcha was the two wires. Great video! Thank you so much!🙏
Awesome to hear this. Thanks for sharing and glad I could help!
Thanks much for the video as i kept wiring wrong until you said red to black 👌
Glad you got it working!
When replacing sensors, can i replace just the bad sensor or is it necessary to replace both of them in the set?
They really gotta upgrade these things bro. All this wires and everything just makes these things difficult to replace
Agreed!
Super helpful. This is exactly what I need to accomplish tomorrow morning. Red to black/white and white to white. Thanks for sharing! One question -- on the side where you have to attach the new sensor wire to the double set of wires, can you jam all three of the same color into one of those newer connector things (with grease inside) or do I have to use the nut (like you did in the video)?
I like to use a wire but for that side because it fits better, but if you can get all the wires in the connectors that come with it that will work too.
@@handy.ginger Thanks. Mission accomplished. I was able to get everything into the connectors with no issues. Thanks again.
I have no lights in the sensors… I cut the wire for the old sensors and try to replace. My question is would I be able to test with a regular electrical tester if electricity is running thru the wires? Not sure if those wires have enough power to feel them.
There are a few different reasons this could happen. The sensors use low voltage so I don’t believe using a volt meter or something similar would be very helpful. It could be a few things ranging from a pinched/shorted/disconnected wire to a bad board in the opener. Sorry I can’t be more helpful but you basically need to start testing things one by one to isolate the issue.
I have one green and the other one is yellow. The yellow use to be green. Not sure if i knocked them off balance. Do they both need to be equally balanced lined up exactly leveled witg each other?
As long as the green light is on that should be sending a good signal back to the motor and all should be good. Yea they need to be lined up and the green light is the indicator that is happening.
@@handy.ginger the remote allows the door to go up, but the light flashes and it won't come down. I have to do it manually. Not sure how to fix it
My sensors were wired so that the receiver often gets swamped by the afternoon sun. How hard would it be to switch the sides of the light source and receiver?
This shouldn’t be hard at all. Just disconnect the sensors and swap them and the reconnect them.
Does the green have to be on the right side?
No you can switch them as you want to so they can be on either side.
My biggest problem is trying to figure out which wire connects to which wire. I have several colors to connect to the sensors. 3whites,blue, green, yellow brown?
Don't have a red.
It’s hard to say without looking but generally you can hook them up either way. If it were me I’d just twist them together for a test and if you get the green light you are good.
Any person can do it this way , so them how to connect on the unit .
Not sure exactly what you are saying but typically these sensor wires are hooked into the garage door unit and color coded so you would just want to make sure you get them in the correct spots. You will also need to combine wires to make them all fit as you usually will have 4 or 6 total wires on 2 or 4 spots for them in the unit. If I end up making any changes to my unit I’ll make sure and go over that in a video. Thanks for the suggestion.
On my garage both, amber and green led light sensors are off , there is no life to them, what should I do ? Single woman here 🥹
If you don’t have any lights that usually indicates something either isn’t hooked up correctly or you have a cut wire or no power to the garage door opener. If you can confirm that you have power to the opener (the light bulb should light up) then check your wiring and make sure it’s hooked up correctly (this is usually color coded) then I would check all your wires and make sure their aren’t cut somewhere. Sorry it’s hard to troubleshoot without seeing in real life but I hope that helps.
