@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hello Michael! The weirdest thing happened today. When I left for the dentist this morning at 11:15, I used my remote to close the garage door, and it worked fine. Then, when I got back around 1:00 pm, the door wouldn’t close all the way. I tried both the remote and the wall mounted opener. The thing that frustrates me is that the green light isn’t flashing, so the alignment should be fine. I have this garage door opener: MyQ Contractor Series Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener. I’m going to set up an account with my smart phone now. I thinkI should have done it before. Wish me luck!
I would not recommend downloading the app myQ. It wouldn’t let me create an account, even though I followed all the prompts. The only option I had after that was to start over. Ok Mike, I sent you a comment an hour ago thanking you for a troubleshooting tip. Now, I am sending you a really super thank you! The tip worked!!!! I had an orange light but no green light. I had to make an adjustment on the green light side to the height and angle. A few days ago, I took everything out of the garage to clean the floor. I kicked the bracket off on the green side and just stuck it back on. The height was 2 inches higher than the orange light side when I measured it. I made both sensors the same height and tightened up the wing nuts. Also, it is not a good idea to stuff odds and ends on the floor in the corners near the sensors. Thanks again! 😀
Yeah, stuffing stuff in the corners near the sensor. I store my recycle bin next to it and it caught and pulled out the tiny sensors plug upon removing the bin-didn’t know I did so. This video pointed me in the right direction.
Mary here. I’ve been fussing and cussing about my stupid garage door not cooperating with me for months now. Yes...I said months! Why did I not check the sensor? Because, nothing that breaks, fails, or doesn’t work right NEVER turns out to be something so simple. Well, maybe with 2020 slowly (and not a day too soon) coming to an end, things seem to be turning around. I got my old fat butt down on the floor and, sure enough, that dadgum little green light was not there. Loosened the wing nut, which, by the way, is my hubby’s nickname, moved that little sucker around a little, and lo and behold, the green light came on!! Tightened the nut, stepped back, held my breath (but not for long...I’ve got asthma), pushed the button, and my door went up and down like a dream! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! Now, on to lubricating the hinges, etc. (I just watched your video on this.) I’m tired of my neighbor yelling at me and every dog in our subdivision howling every time I go in and out. 10,000 👍👍👍 Keep the DIY videos coming. Troubleshooting: 1. Ensure that the amber light is on, on one side (beam side), and green light or flashing green on the other (receiver side). If either light isn't working, there is most likely something wrong with the wiring to that side. This is what it turned out to be the case with mine. Once I fixed the wire, I was finished. 2. Align the beam and sensor until you get a steady green on the receiver side within 6" of the ground as per the video. After that, it will work.

Thanks for your post. I am having a similar problem with one sensor being solid amber and the other being solid green. When I adjust the positioning of the sensor that is amber in color, I can’t get the amber light to switch to green. In other words, I don’t think that, it is a sensor misalignment problem, in my case, it looks like it’s a wiring problem. I came to that conclusion because regardless of the adjustment that I made the amber light stay solid, and the green light stayed solid green. I don’t know how to fix the wire myself, so it looks like I’ll have to call an overhead door company or an electrician. Any thoughts?
@@mlmiles1 Something doesn't make sense there. Maybe remove both sensors, make some short temporary wires, and connect them to the opener and see if they work right. If not, there is something screwy that involves replacing some parts. If it fixes them, then it seems like it would have to be wiring.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Hi the green and amber lights both are solid and i clean the sensor eyes, etc but I still have the same issue the door tries to close but goes all the way up any thoughts?
@@aurabaron278 Thanks for the follow up. Is the door sliding freely and efficiently while it moving, or is it making a jolting sound, and getting bound up as the rollers guide door through the rails?

That worked perfectly. I accidentally knocked the receiver (green light) loose while I was coming into the garage. I clipped it back on and it seemed to be glowing a steady green but the door wouldn't close. Thanks for watching, were you able to get unit back up and running properly? Some units have learn buttons that don’t light up, it’s rare though. We believe all Craftsmen units have lighted learn buttons. If it’s not illuminating, the light may be burnt out however, it’s unlikely. We recommend disconnecting power cord from ceiling outlet and leaving unplugged for a minimum of five minutes before plugging it back in. This will allow system to reset.
Accidentally knocked off the sensor with the lawn mower, my dad put it back on but the alignment was a bit off. Just had to bring it closer to the bracket and that fixed it. Thanks!
If the amber light is not on, get a ladder and look at the connections on the garage door opener itself. The vibrations from the motor are causing the wires to make intermittent connection to the terminal. I have an old Chamberlin ca 2000 model. There are 3 wires going to the screw terminal in the middle. They are different gauges and should not be forced together under a screw head. Disconnect those 3 wires and twist together with a new 4th wire, approx 6 inches long is fine. Secure with a wire nut. Now attach the other end of the new 4th wire to the middle terminal. Voila. Fixed.

@@inhabitantofearth Thanks for watching, is your unit operating properly with one green light and one amber light? If so, your unit is configured properly. Some units require two green lights while other units require one green light and one amber light.
How did you fix the one that was amber? Did you do the same thing? Ensure there was no obstructions and then aligned it with the other? Or was there something else wrong? The sensor on the left of my garage is fine, steady green light. But the one on the right is amber and the door won’t close. Trying to sort this out
Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Depending on the model of your unit, an amber on one side & a green on the opposite side is normal. You will want to align sensors until lights are illuminated & steady....no blinking. At this point, carefully tighten sensors in place with wing nut & test unit. Keep us posted. 😎👍🔧🔩
So I have a weird problem that my garage door keeps closing even if somebody comes in between the sensor, it will not stop and keeps closing. I see it as a safety issue in case a kid comes in the middle. The door will not stop. I do have sensors and they sent something as I can feel a little hesitation on the door, but it keeps on closing what could be the issue?
Thanks for watching, let’s get this figured out. A few common causes are listed below. 1. Wiring is randomly shorting: The wiring that is held in place with staples eats through the shielding over the years. Do you notice any damaged throughout your wiring? 2. The opener push button: The wall mounted push button has an internal circuit board that can go bad over time. When this happens, it will send sporadic signals to the motor requesting it it open and close when it’s not supposed too. In addition, a few outside items can lead to this. If any of the items below have occurred recently, one of them may be interfering with the frequency of your unit and causing sporadic open and close signals. 1. New internet installed in home 2. New security system installed 3. New power-line or pole installed near home 🧰
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders sorry I may not have explained properly. It doesn’t do it on its own. Let’s say I initiate a close command to close the garage and then I try to put my leg in between the two sensors simulating a person under door and at this moment the sensor should detect and open the garage however my garage door seems as if it senses something but just keeps moving towards close and doesn’t stop.
@@HowToDoitright Thanks for the follow up. It may be best to perform a full system reset. We recommend unplugging the unit from the ceiling outlet/receptacle and leaving unplugged for a minimum of 30 minutes. This will allow your system to perform a full reset. After 30 minutes, plug unit back in and see if it properly reconfigured itself. If not, two things can lead to this. 1. Faulty or dirty sensor: Carefully clean sensor eye-lens so it can properly detect moving objects. 2. Travel system issue: Re-programming your Travel system may reset sensors. Below is a helpful video of us showing this procedure. ua-cam.com/video/M6d9IMjyze4/v-deo.htmlsi=KSoJW4uYEkdnx8NU We recommend performing the steps in the order listed below until it begins working as designed. 1. Full 30 minute reset 2. Clean sensor eye-lenses 3. Re-program Travel system 🧰

You are welcome, you have a blessed day as well. 😁
I’m going to whip this place into shape to the extent a 71 year old woman is able.

Awesome, you are very welcome. A garage door giving you problems on a holiday weekend is no fun. Great job making it a DIY project.
🧰
Mike: what brand of garage opener do you have? Does it matter which brand you work on? Thank you!
Troubleshooting:

Why my learn purple button doesn't blink or lit even when it has power? Craftman Opener!
Thanks!

Thank you! You saved me 85 plus dollars!
Voila. Fixed.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience and advice. 😎👍

1. New internet installed in home
2. New security system installed
3. New power-line or pole installed near home
🧰
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders sorry I may not have explained properly. It doesn’t do it on its own. Let’s say I initiate a close command to close the garage and then I try to put my leg in between the two sensors simulating a person under door and at this moment the sensor should detect and open the garage however my garage door seems as if it senses something but just keeps moving towards close and doesn’t stop.
@@HowToDoitright
Thanks for the follow up.
Below is a helpful video of us showing this procedure.
ua-cam.com/video/M6d9IMjyze4/v-deo.htmlsi=KSoJW4uYEkdnx8NU
We recommend performing the steps in the order listed below until it begins working as designed.
1. Full 30 minute reset
2. Clean sensor eye-lenses
3. Re-program Travel system
