Personally I think when you get into the ecosystem, you get some kind of loyalty towards the brand, and those products you buy from them, generate enough revenue to keep Apple growing and maturing with a fair amount of sustainability. And Handoff, Continuity, AirPlay and iCloud are the glue that keeps the “Apple Ecosystem” together. And think it can get much better and “magical” as my imagination runs wild.

Louis Vuitton (LV) holds a relatively small percentage of the "ladies bag" market compared to let's say H&M, but they still make more money due to the way LV has positioned their brand. Apple is in similar position; Either they start appealing to the broad masses (world-wide) and introduce a wide variety of products, ranging from cheap and simple to high-end and expensive, OR they stick with the expensive high-end products to protect their brand and more importantly, to protect the mark-up (profit) that the Apple brand generates. In other words, world-wide domination will cost at the bottom line.

I'm starting to think that maybe buying locally in a brick and mortar store is a better idea. Not only do you see the product but you can touch it and see how it is and not have to rely on reviews that have recently become more and more of an issue on Amazon because of fake reviews.

I’m born in Germany and I moved to Canada a while ago. In Germany having an iPhone was nothing but the biggest status symbol, in case you had one you where considered rich, over here in Canada it’s nothing but some phone. The huge market share illusion probably applies to North America only.
Come to Brasil where the price of the iPhone is a joke for everyone. You can't buy the higher end model unless you wanna spend all your entire year's revenue, or you are rich. Average monthly income: R$ 2340.00 (546 us dollars).
Base-line iPhone price (iPhone 8 64gb): R$ 3399.00 (793 us dollars).
And that's not even considering the base monthly salary, which would be ridiculous to consider.
Considering the higher end it gets way worse: R$ 9599.00 (2241 us dollars). And base salary: R$1039.00 (242 us dollars)
I sometimes chuckle at the fact that there are far more Apple products in my home than there are humans... and I'm living on my own. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air and a pair of Beats headphones.

One thing I think Apple does great at is making products for specific people, when many other brands focus on mass appeal. In general Mac computers are for creatives (music, video, photo, developers), they're not also for gamers and accountants. They aren't making tablets that function as fully functional computers, they're making something that is specifically its own grey area between smartphone and computer. They aren't making phones with the highest specs all around, they make phones with a simplified layout and incredibly fluid UI and tight integration with their other hardware (although they do have great specs, it doesn't beat other phones in every spec).
They even have a smart speaker device that is basically only usable if you have an iPhone AND Apple Music, which on the surface sounds like a horrible business move, but if you consider the small percentage of iPhone users that also have Apple Music and don't have a smart home device its a PERFECT fit for them.
With their iPhone in particular you can clearly see they don't care about the people saying that say they want endless customization options on their phone, thats not what they're about. They want to give you X experience, and if you don't want X experience you can go elsewhere. But for the people that love X experience, they will continue to invest in the ecosystem because nobody else in the world can give them that experience.
well said. apple gets a lot of unnecessary hate and while I don't agree with all of their practices, I think they have a great business model and make some fantastic products

Glad you brought this up! People are so uninformed it’s annoying. The phones we’re cheaper back in the day if you really think about it. People just didn’t know what they were paying for and the subsidy had people confused.

I bought my Apple shares in 1996--cost basis is now about 60 cents a share. I expected the shares to increase in value but not nearly that much. Still, all good things come to an end. When that will happen to Apple, I don't know, but it does seem they are building a sustainable eco-system. One reason I own Disney too--back to the mid-80's.
I bought Apple common stock in 1996 and have never sold a single shares, Oddly, I never had a I-phone until two years ago and still don't have an Apple computer or watch even though I think the products are great.
I think a huge advantage for Apple is that their iPhones don't go obsolete so easily. Because _Apple_ controls the software upgrade process, an iPhone model as old as the iPhone 6S from 2015 is still viable in 2020 running the latest version of iOS (13.3.1).

I am surprised you didn’t mention that what was it? Two, three years ago, WSJ reported that Apple had something like 86% of the smartphone profits. So basically all those other manufacturers were splitting 14% among themselves. I don’t know if the split is the same now but I know I’d rather have 12% or whatever of the market and 86% of the profits any day.

About the smartwatch thing. The giant market share just shows that iPhone users tend to buy a smartwatch while android user dont. Since the AppleWatch can only be used by an iPhone but the android smart watches can be used by different phones.

Been using Samsung for a long time then switch to one plus. The worst thing you got with samsung flagship (or any android flagship actually) is all their so called advantage is experimental feature, and samsung mid range is big no no better go xiaomi but then again chinese phone has identity problem. With iphone you got the best processing power in a phone. Its the reason why Apple is the leader in video recording. And no, Apple build quality is better than samsung.

I used to despise Apple like you, but then i have the chance to know it better. But i wont buy any apple or any phone for that matters before in display camera is a thing. My one plus 7 pro is an absolute delight with its true full screen display. The only downside is curved screen which i blame to samsung for creating the trend, its an absolute nightmare using it without a case.

Like the iPhone. With other brands and such, you have so many models to choose from and they’re all gimmicky and the product line is so fragmented. With an iPhone, the newest one is just the new west one. They’ve changed that up recently with like one having more cameras and than another mode, but it’s still way better than the multitude of models to choose from when I was growing up. And I hated typing on those teeny tiny keyboards. You basically had to type with your fingernail.

The numbers for me don't really add up. I mean, Apple's iPhone share of the market doesn't match the smartwatch share. Of course, not every iPhone owner has a smartwatch also, but with wearable tech, calorie counters and activity trackers so popular now, it's surpsing to see the data on these not really correlating.
Market share is only valuable for enticing App developers to your platform. App developers at least since the introduction of iPhone have always preferred iOS.
I do not agree with you: It’s not all about Market Share. It’s about how much of that market share is willing to BUY something on that specific platform and how cost-effective it is to build for that specific OS. (How fragmented is the OS)

Perhaps in the past, but it's probably not true anymore. Apple's been trying desperately to grow their services business and become less dependant on hardware (which fluctuate more from market shocks and product cycles), and the only way to do so is the attract more users towards their products in hope they'll buy their subscriptions. This is why we're seeing the $249 iPad (10.2-inches) and $699 iPhone 11 ($50 less than the Xr from last year).
If they sold the most, they’d end up loosing the prestige cause everyone would have one. Same way companies like Rolex don’t sell loads of product, just sell a relatively low amount at a high price tag

Iphones don’t hold large market share because it’s a premium product. Almost everybody around me uses an iphone but since there’re many people don’t have good income, they buy a budget phone for like $200 instead. Also in China and India, two most populated places in the world, the iphone is not really the people’s preference. So that’s why in the end it doesn’t hold large market share.

Apple is running a business. As a business they are amazing. Why? PROFIT as you say. They make more money on low market share with high prices and customer loyalty to purchase again and again.I am off the Apple bandwagon after being a huge supporter of iPhone and iPad and I even bought a Mac back in 2010. No more. I was shocked how bad Excel was for a power user on the Mac. Even basic functions were missing. IOS was great in the beginning and the apps were first and better than Android. Now, the apps on Android are equal.

apple has the highest os market share for mobiles in Canada, US and the UK. They got first world countries on lock. Obviously with India being price out of apple and china supporting their own companies they aren't going to have the highest market share worldwide. That's also why Imessage is so popular in Canada and the US because all my friends use imessage as the default messenger, sms isn't even an option. It's just out of convenience and why I can't be bothered using android especially with their camera qualities on apps being so garbage
