People should learn how statistics work. If you want an IOS device you only have one manufacturer to choose from. On the other hand, Android offers hundreds of manufacturers. In total Apple only has approximately 16% global market share. If more manufacturers could offer an IOS device this chart would look different.

people are losing their brain cells every day. how hard is it to read the chart.
the chart says bestselling phones per model.
there are only 4-5 iPhone models to choose from.
but on the android side, there are over 500 models to choose from.
so even if 80% of the mobile users in the world use android, that 80% is shared by 500 different models.
and the rest 20% is shared by 4-5 iPhone models.
and if you do the math, the 20% will have the bestselling model.

I used to be like you. I was an android die hard. My wife got an iphone 6 in 2014. I got a samsung s7 in 2016. By year 2020, my s7 was crawling slow. I did everything I could to speed it up. I even rooted it and got some roms to help it. My wife's iphone was happily going along. Hers was the bendgate iphone, and the one that was throttled by apple! It was the one that had 2 major media issues!
We can only afford to replace 1 phone a year, so we bought her the iphone 11. I switched from my s7 to her iphone 6 and used it for a year.
Android only looks better if you aren't next to an iphone. Me, being a techy guy, fell for the pitfall. I think that more and more people are realizing this, putting their tails between their legs and accepting this. Her macbook has also outlived my windows PC, but I'm not going that far

why would anyone want to only have one phone platform survive? Imagine having the option of only one car to buy, or one style of jeans from the same company. Having options spurs innovation and competition.
Not sure if I want the company that limits USB-C speeds on the non pro models to USB 2.0 transfer speeds, or the same company that won't display the temperature 69 on it's phone for some reason (maybe they think their buyers aren't mature enough to see that without giggling). More importantly, why would anyone cheer on the demise of competition for devices that we get our information and content from?

If Android is purged, you wouldn't have all the cool software features in iOS being developed as fast, and most apps probably wouldn't exist. If the iSheep wanna be locked down by Apple, let them. So who's gonna tell him that if Apple's market share is 29.27%, Android's market share is over 70%...
Highest selling phone models aren't a good metric, because one company (like Apple) may have very few models, while another company (like Xiaomi) may have very many models. So say people buy a new Xiaomi, maybe a million people, they will all get various phones, so not one phone will have a million from those sales. I'm vendor-agnostic within the Android ecosystem. I've owned multiple different models from HTC, Sony, LG, Samsung over the years. I go with whoever has the best specifications (fastest SoC, most storage and RAM, smallest, lightest in the 6.2"-6.7" range - I believe 6.4"/6.5" is ideal). I can't consider Apple because of how proprietary and locked down they are. I need to be able to customise my home screen to the way I like it and to be able to just plug my phone into any computer and copy files to/from it without any special software.
I am keen to move to a folding phone when they're 8mm thin and a normal screen ratio on the outside that just folds out to a nice small tablet without added thickness when folded in normal use. Apple doens't seem to be doing anything in this space either. Samsung is really pioneering.

Just because of the fact that they are available at $550. Sometimes even lower. This was not the case before. Because we can't get an iPhone for less than $700 or $600 before. And the ecosystem thing you are bringing. I don't think that's a factor here. You won't see a single person here who will buy a iPhone for iMessage and apple watch. I will jump back to Android as soon as I can - which will hopefully be when RCS support comes to iphone. Then I don't have to worry about imessage.
