    I'm glad i found this video, this case was cooking my 7900xtx. I've put Noctua fans on top and some Arctic fans for the bottom and set top intake, bottom exhaust. This has made a 15-20 degree difference which is huge.

    The video presentation first, keeps getting better and better, transition effects, closeup pics, sound quality, background ambience and lighting, voice volume and clarity, background music, you came a long way since the lian li case review. So far the best video presentation in my opinion.
    Then the content, concise and direct to the point with matching presentations, quality content as always 👏💪🍻
    So from my observation, theoretically, conventional gpu fans are better compared to the Founder Editions fan in terms of cooling regardless of case fans orientation for vertical gpu layout. Correct me if im wrong
    More power cheers 👏💪🎉🎊🍻🍻🍻

      Ah, you are too kind! Glad you enjoy the improvements/tweaks here, I’m wrapping up the studio/desk updates so should have an update video to share soon too. For the GPU, it’s not so much that the FE fans/cooler works better, it’s more so that the 6600xt is so meager in terms of power consumption (it’s kind of OP with even the “2-slot” cooler). That lower power, coupled with the headroom from a 280, basically has less of an impact on CPU cooling. The higher power the components draw at load, the more critical this gets. Hope that helps, thanks again for the encouraging feedback! 👊

    Thank you very much. I like the colors of the Max but already built in the NR200. Also, I installed an Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Impact and I used the CPU Cooler Noctua C14S. A lot of reviews said it wouldn't fit but mine had about 5/6mm's of clearance between the two. Worked out fine. And the person who put mine together (yes, I was chicken) had the side flow going OUT instead of in. But it all seems to work. Thank you again for your time.

    I've found with my system which has an R9 5950X and an RTX 4070Ti Super, I can still have slim fans at the bottom as intake if I set them to a static speed of about 40 or 50 percent. They don't clash too much with the airflow being pulled in from the top radiator fans so there isn't as much turbulence. I'm sure having top exhaust and bottom exhaust is probably still better but thermals don't seem too bad where I have them right now. 40-50c idle temps and about 60-65c under most gaming loads. Cinebench R23 seems to be peaking about 70-80, which honestly I can live with quite comfortably.

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  3 роки тому +3

      Yeah… coil whine is a hit or miss issue especially with Ampere, I’m hearing about it more often than not from users. Undervolting can help but won’t eliminate it, but is worth doing for many reasons. A lot of times they (manufacturer) won’t cover under warranty but I would think the store you got it from should at least swap you out and see if the other is better, inventory dependent of course.

    • @jerooski
      @jerooski 3 роки тому

      I had coil whine on my GTX 970 GPU, playing on Vsync removes the coil whine, so I think it is an issue that has to do with power that is a hit or miss in all cards.

    This is a great video. One question.... There are two types of loads that I run. 1) Heavy all core CPU loads (i.e. Handbrake). There is no GPU usage during those task 2) Game loads: heavy GPU, moderate CPU.
    Also, if I add the bottom fans, I want the option to have a zero RPM fan curve where they are on only if the system is under high load. In this video, you ran the top and bottom fans at the same speed.
    Would it be bad to run the system with top intake and bottom exhaust with zero RPM profile where the bottom fans only turn on when the CPU goes above 50C? I want to keep the system as quiet as possible when there is no load.

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, you could do a pull (fans on the outside). I want to say the stock screws have enough thread length for the rad panel because they account for the fan grills, which you don’t need with that setup. Outside of aesthetic concerns (such as with RGB fans) IME there’s no significant cooling difference. That being said, I’d like to quantify that at some point, but yes it can be setup that way.

    There is one config that I'd like to try but it probably needs a custom cut (Or printed) back panel: using the new bracket for radiator on top and the gpu mount *without* the raiser on the bottom (2 slot cards max since the space for 3 slot cards is used to shift down the mobo to accommodate the top rad): This way the GPU would still get the benefit of fresh, intake straight through the bottom of the case and you could still use the glass panel.
    This probably requires a smaller gpu but I've seen some cards like a PNY 3060 that are basically not only 2 slots but single fan and about the length of the itx board: you'd still get at least 120mm fan intake from the bottom and the rear 90mm as well. It's still recycling some GPU hot exaust to the GPU but this config I bet would net even better temps that what we've shown here.
    But this is probably too complicated: I'd rather find a 120 AIO that I can mount at the bottom because I know for example be quiet makes (Or used to make) an AIO that integrates the pump on the houses, not on the cpu block, so that can be optimal bottom mounted.
    I still like the NR200P Max though: it's probably going to replace the NZXT H1 as the best "Barebones without motherboard" solution out there as long as you just mind using a modest GPU along with it.

    Ignoring the cost and effort to install your own fans and AIO..
    Do you think the original NR200 with 2 intake fans on the bottom pushing air through the GPU, the AIO with 2 fans on the mesh side as intake and 2 fans on top as exhaust with 6 fans total, will still be "better" than what can be done with the Max version in terms of thermal performance?

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Tom, so the NR200 with ML280 was the baseline comparison for the mesh panel test, at 9:20 it’s pretty close to the optimized MAX, compared to the top intake bottom exhaust it has slightly worse CPU thermals for slightly better GPU temps, the reason being the side intake does get impacted by the flow through cooler on the 3080 FE. A little rebalancing of fan speeds could get similar overall performance, but more or less it’s lateral in terms of performance. When similarly equipped and properly configured there’s not a real reason they should be different in terms of performance, the MAX just comes out of the box setup with a fan orientation that isn’t necessarily the best for CPU thermals for a combined scenario.

    Hats off to the beautifully and carefully crafted video that convinced me to get this case! However with my setup of two noctua 120x15mm fans as intake, AIO as exhaust, 13700K and RTX4070, I never seem to match the temperatures listed here. Under full utilization with standard bios settings for fan speeds, the cpu package temperature immediately hits 100 degrees, throttling and again immediately falling down to somewhere 40 when stopping the test. This seemed to me like a thermal paste issue, then I switched to ptm7950 and the situation is still the same. Any ideas on what could be wrong; could it be the cpu and gpu combination I have that is requiring much better airflow? Responses are much appreciated!

      @JSHoward187 Рік тому

      The thermals in the graphs in the video show that having both top and bottom fans running as exhaust help alleviate thermals. Also if you are using the glass panel (guessing this is the case with thermals like that) then switch to the mesh panel and that will help even more. If you still can't get the thermals under control you will have to under volt. Is it just the CPU or is the GPU affected as well?

      Please accept my apologies for the delayed response; I thought I had replied to this message already. I never used the glass panel, and my comparison was based on the chart showing bottom intake and top exhaust. Only the CPU is affected. Over the past 10 months, I have tried several workarounds, such as changing the bracket with a frame, reapplying the thermal pad, and activating performance enhancement options in the BIOS, but none of these solutions have resolved the issue.
      The only solution I have found so far is lowering the graphics options in the games. While undervolting seems to be an option, I am reluctant to pursue it. However, to my understanding, the charts shared here do not reflect results from undervolted tests.

    I am very curious how it would perform with GPU fans off. Soely by using the Bottom fans as intake and top fans as exhaust with a tempered glass and the through airflow to cool the GPU. I have a 3 slot GPU with large sideway fins and really curious how it would perform in such a configuration and PC Case.

    lets hope CM releases a version of this case without the psy&aio bundle. it would be intresting to set this case up with a slim 240 rad+regular 280 rad using a 3/4" skirt+feet to place the fans in the underside + the nouvolo cpu pump block to make this custom loop!
