I actually really like this PC building montages. Something different than the usual time-lapse or the "look i'm building this PC imma put in this component now then that component" sort of thing.
So I have a case similar to that one. The fan you put on the bottom just flip it to push air out instead of in and you will get better Temps. That's what I did and it works. Having both bottom and top as exhaust just helps overall to remove the hot air out and the air is being taken in from the side panels.
I've been planning a ITX build myself. My current PC build is Intel 10th gen/3080, but I'm thinking Ryzen 4th gen in an ITX build. Still not sold on Radeon GPUs yet though. But AMD is definitely closing in on Nvidia.

Smoke test it. You'll see that the bottom fan is actually re-circulating hot air in the case. It pushes air up the column directly above it, that then circulates back out of the vents immediately behind the fan and is then pushed back into the case again by the fan. If you put two fans there instead of one, both on intake, this would make a huge difference ;)
Great idea, I would add a high speed camera to record that test so he can see the smoke flow better before it diffuses and obscures the view. (that and the cool content potential)
Also, set the bottoms fan as exhaust! I see everyone assuming that if top fans are exhaust the bottom fans must be intake. That’s only true if you’re using the TG panel. If you want true ultimate performance, use vented side panel and bottom fans as exhaust. It pulls the heat from the gpu out the bottom, and cpu aio isn’t being fed hot air. It’s a win-win for both temps.
@@Crazyates11 Everything you said. Negative pressure everything is the answer. Pull the air from the side of the case and push it out the top and bottom. This is almost the same layout as a Sliger SM580.
12:50 the reason is because the case was negative pressure without the fan all you’ve done by installing a fan on just the right side is prevented cool air from rising from the left side of the bottom of the case stopped cooling air from rising into the left side of the gpu. installing the fan on the left or both would have prevented it.
If you're interested in an ITX case, I would recommend to check out the SSUPD Meshlicious. A cool max airflow case which can fit tripple slot cards up to 320mm and an AiO with 280 rads.
I completely empathize w/ Phil regarding the Shift. I've got a first-gen, glass-paneled Shift case that I've modded like crazy. I tried to get fabric panels for it but they're all sold out. I know I need to get a more thermal-friendly case but I just can't do it yet. It looks too good!
The shift and shift X are weird ones. Shift X at least has space for 240+120mm rad, which is enough to cool a 5700 xt and 5600x, 120mm in Shift is literally only enough for low powered air cooled builds
Fans on the bottom of this case work best pulling air out with the GPU pulling in air from the side. At least that’s how mine work best with a 5950x and a 6800 xt. I never see over 65c on the cpu and GPU never gets above 68c.
A nice little example of how adding a fan can actually be detrimental to cooling efficiency. This is because cooling efficiency is not just about airflow volume, it’s about how you use that airflow effectively.
Man, something about seeing a founders edition 3080 with its flowthrough design being mounted vertically makes me a weird combination of mad and sad. Smad. Such an inefficient direction for the airflow design. A regular mount with two bottom mounted fans would have made so much sense in that case with (i suspect) improved acoustics.
Agreed. The NR200P non-max would be the way to go there, but it has its share of problems too. The only ootb options for an AIO rad+fans are side-plate mounting and floor mounting (the worst possible place for an AIO radiator, yet you routinely see builders on YT chest-pumping about their "pretty" rigs post-build in that exact configuration). It is non-trivial to shoehorn a rad+fans, even low profile, into the roof. That, coupled with no panel USB-C support in any of the NR200 cases, is why I don't have one in my hands already. And I really, *really* like the layout of this case line.
Hey Jay/Phil. In the off chance you haven't seen, on the Cooler Master site the spec sheet says that low profile fans (15mm thick) fit under the GPU riser, which with the two fans under the GPU, it may perform better? Dunno, just a thought is all! I kind of want this case after seeing this vid. Thanks for the amazing content as always!
Nick over at Gear Seekers just released a great follow up video of his review of this case, and among other things he re-tested it with 2 x slim 120mm Noctua's below the GPU. His results showed nice temp improvements with the bottom fans (5 degrees C drop on the GPU with the TG panel) BUT he was using a blower style 3080, so that may be the difference compared to Jays findings.
@@slinkywizard yeah i think in this specific instance the weird temps are due to the way the coolers configured on the founders edition.. if it was more of a standard cooler the extra air going through the bottom of the cooler would probably help.
There is only one thing I would change because of this CPU temps, a would clock CPU to 5Ghz instead 5.1/5.2 and then I would probably be able to lower voltage and temps would be better. I think that 100-200mghz would not impact FPS to much and long-term it would maybe be better for system to have lower temps.
Those new cpu temps are WELL within a good range. Those temps aren't going to lower the longevity of the system so it would be needlessly reducing performance for nothing.
I wonder what 2x NF-A12x15 running at low rpm on the bottom would do to the system. I don't know what rpm the lian-li fan was running at but if it was pushing past the GPU then I guess it was fairly high rpm / pressure. Oh well, yet another build idea that I need to put to test.
That would indeed be interesting to know. Although I do also suspect the orientation of the GPU with that particular Blower-Style cooler would create perpendicular Airflow regardless of the additional Fans Speed, which in turn would hinder the overall Cooling inside of the Case. That would explain why the extra Fan caused the Temperatures to increase instead of decreasing - at least in my addled Brain that makes sense. Not sure if lower Fan Speeds would mitigate that problem in any significant way and preserve any benefit to the Airflow.
This. Along with something to give it another inch of breathing room to pull air in at the bottom. I think part of the reason the 140 bottom intake didn't work very well is just that the case feet aren't tall enough.
@@ryanhauser3014 True. A side- mounted Fan *could* help with the Airflow and not impede too much, but there might not be enough clearance between the side-panel and that teeny-tiny monster of a GPU mounted vertically.

32 GB per stick at 3200MHz CL14 is sick. You are crowding the bottom of the case with a 25mm thick fan, try it with a 15mm fan and a lower speed profile.

I want that lil' case so bad. My current case is just massive and weighs a ton (Thermaltake View 72). I love the case, but it just takes up soooo much room. This lil' case is perfect for me.
Jay, flip that bottom fan over so it's exhausting underneath the graphics card. Remember the AIO fans are working off the pressure differential they're creating. Blowing in additional air, means there's a higher pressure inside the case. Because there's not enough exhaust to fully offset that. So now those fans trying to move air across the AIO have less of a pressure differential between the outside of the case and the inside, and they are moving less air in.
Yes what this fan effectively does is push air where the exhaust fan blows effectively reducing amount of air available to the right hand side gpu fan. Without the extra bottom fan all the air below gpu is available for it.
I built in the NR200P last year with 4 fans, 2 top, 2 bottom and de-shrouded RTX3080. My temps are much lower than this AIO config, like 60 GPU and 50-ish CPU under load.

Oh man, those extra words for that case model is worthit. Nice upgrade for Phil.
I was looking for this case the other day, any chance you could start including what the product is in the description? Especially one with this kind of naming scheme lol?
Same
I think I need one of these cases... I love the look and functionality of it. My next build will go into one of these.
I wake up everyday and think to myself "I'm so glad I didn't panic sell my 2080 ti like a shmuck" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same.
Ive got the shift. Put a fabric panel on the gpu side. Used a stock amd cooler on the top (now bottom) to push more air in. And flipped the case up side down with some mods.
Temps are fine and looks are superb.
I would highly recommend changing the AIO to to arctic liquid freezer II. At least 5C off guaranteed. They also come with RGB now days.
Phil you mad lad, this is insane editing
Imagine if everyone had a brick of gold, but luckily I was able to purchase a rx 6600 xt at only 150 dollars over msrp, I didnt know being this lucky felt this bad ;)
Here i am three years later running in the Shift with no problems with a 3080 FE and 8700K @ 5ghz.
Havent had a failure in my AIO either. Just tap the thing occasionally. And the tubes need to be at the top, not the bottom.
Hi, I'd like to ask. What is the software of the sensor panel? Thank you
AIDA64
I love that my 5900x is double the C23 score at ~23000 without OC, and only 57deg c literally indefinitely, with 280mm AIO in the Meshalisious.
Jayz always finds a way to make everyone's day happier, he inspired me to create my own UA-cam channel❤️💖
Congrats Phil. This case is way cooler. 😎👍🍁🦋🌿
first
I hope the nr200p max will cost around 200/300 euros for the 750/850 watt.
Then, you can get a full build with
250 nr200p max
200 itx board
200 cpu
100 ram
100 nvme
=
850.
Gpu.... X price
Hottest temp in my 3080-3700X rig now hits about 66c. Just added a ML240L V2 with push pull.
I made a nice chimney effect with 8 Sickleflows in a Neo Air case. Kind of small, mesh front, top exhaust.
Four front intakes on the 240, 1 lower rear intake where the io covers go. Pulls in under the triple fan 3080, all up and out through 3 exhaust. Even at full blast, can't hear a thing...over the window AC unit right next to it.
Putting two grey Kaze Flex fans under the GPU would look nice and improve airflow a little bit.
The detriment of the bottom fan I generally found very interested. I really like this case.
I saw a review on cooling on this.
2 120mm 15mm thick fans in bottom exhausting and top fans reveresed to sucking got better temps with glass side panel.
Best with metal side panel was top and bottom exhausting for negative pressure.
Max Master Max to the Max.
Nice to see manufacturers take notes out of Duty Calls's book.
that funky disassembly beat though, good choice of music!
Love that bass! I had to track it down, it's "Gloria Tells - Stays The Same (Instrumental Version)"
haha the song used for the build montage is actually the song used for the jingle of the most watched French Twitch show (called PopCorn)
32 GB per stick at 3200MHz CL14 is sick. You are crowding the bottom of the case with a 25mm thick fan, try it with a 15mm fan and a lower speed profile.
The bottom was leftover from the base NR200 which had a horizontal GPU and as you said the fan would blow straight in there
Loved this episode, the montages are always great and it was awesome seeing a SFF build, more please!
if you ever lose Phil, just know your channel would take a major hit. his video skills are top notch and details are insane. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for the video, I'm way super late but been looking up cases and ideas for a build for my gf and I'm leaning to a small itx build. What first drawn me to the NR200P was the Sakura Edition (I know I'd pay way more than I should) is something that she would love a lot and would give me great brownie points. But this gives me ideas about custom wraps for it.
That is a nice looking grey on that MAX case.
fun mod for cases like these, 3d print longer feet to slap fans on the bottom. Always do exhaust on the bottom and top to help with temps.
That Montage looks great! I really like how the blue reflected off the chrome on the gpu, looks really really good
More air is NOT always more good... You learn something new every day...almost!
Loved the detailed parts cleaning, don't see many others showing that
Phil: You´re frikkin magician man. Love your B-rolls. 👌👏
I rarely comment on UA-cam vids, but this one deserves a thumbs up for Phil's fantastic montages! Love the great synergy of the music, scene cuts, transitions, everything.
This deserves a Chef's Kiss!
You have the bottom fan in the wrong spot should be more in the back and you need to cover the empty spot to prevent the cold air from escaping out the bottom or put in 2 fans at the bottom.
These computer parts was getting an clean spa day, clean build look
Thank you Jay and Phil. I just bought this case.
@@swizzler8053 I bought the regular NR200. Already have an sfx power supply and 280mm aio. I was going to do an ITX build a few years ago but due to case and mobo options that were available it was a little out of my budget.
I live in Canada. It will be longer before it becomes available. If it even comes up here.
Came for the build
Stayed for the montages :)
I want that lil' case so bad. My current case is just massive and weighs a ton (Thermaltake View 72). I love the case, but it just takes up soooo much room. This lil' case is perfect for me.
I love this case. Coolermaster has nailed it recently with their cases.
Absolutely love your review on this particular case. 100% ordering it for the wife. Thanks Jay!
The cable management you have to do in that case is demanding....thanks for raising the bar for us all!
Oh man, i LOVE this mean "reactory" look with the grill-sidepanel !!! Nice 😍
That blue looks sick with that case i like it a lot!
Really liked the new case with the glass side panel over the perforated metal one.
I really appreciate the extra tests with the two side panels and a fan on the bottom. Would not have expected that temperature increase!
I built in the NR200P last year with 4 fans, 2 top, 2 bottom and de-shrouded RTX3080. My temps are much lower than this AIO config, like 60 GPU and 50-ish CPU under load.
@@bronzehd6212 I didn’t see the spec in the video, mine is a 5800X with a curve adjustment for the OC threshold of -15, but frequencies change based on thermal headroom.
