Unfortunately, not everyone can afford high-end products. It would be nice to see a video finding those cheaper products that you would choose if you had to.
Stop buying the cheap crap and buy the better stuff. It will last longer, which makes it CHEAPER. Example: 1 bottle of $7 shampoo that last 1 month vs 1 bottle of $25 shampoo that lasts 4 months because you use less of it. That $25 shampoo is actually cheaper than buying the $7 shampoo every month.
It's not just shampoo and conditioner but styling products. That's not accessible for most people, even if you claim they last four times longer (they usually don't). @@LinnLinnok-fe5tq
Professional products weren't freely available some 15 to 20 years ago and everyone had great hair with Walmart products. So, I disagree with this push for brand products. Abbey Yong reviews a lot of less expensive hair products. Personally, I had amazing curly hair with Supermarket hair products when it was virgin. I only added some professional products when I dyed my hair and even so I mix with my favorite ones, which are Walmart. To me, the advantaged of expensive products is they are essencial if you have chemically treated hair (dye, bleaching, etc) and we can use less product. If the hair is virgin, supermarket/department store products are enough. The only product I do think we should spend is heat protectant.
For the dry shampoo, I was on board until the actual real hair test. Leslie looked down to get her hair to slide back to normal position the second time she used living proof. & you could argue it was on top of the other dry shampoo because it’s the same place as not your mothers. Would not pass a real science experiment due to variance. Then with the heat protectant it was edited so much that it would have been better to see the heat applied & results. Jumping to the end results means we have to trust there was no bread swapping.
Also, why did he choose moisturizing and nourishing drugstore shampoos, but then a volumizing professional shampoo? Doesn't make sense. For a fair comparison, all the shampoos should have a similar promise.
@@RR_9I thought about that too. But he didn’t compare volume but he compared moisture retention. So actually the moisturising shampoo’s should be better. I think he gave the drugstore shampoos an advantage even.
YESSSSSSS….. I totally agree…. After that part of the video I came right to the comment section to see if I was the only one that felt that way….. definitely didn’t give the first 2 a fair shot!!!!
It’s been about 3 months since I switched to all your recommended products, I’m 37 years old and for the first time in my life, not only my hair, but also my scalp has never been in better shape! I can go 5 (sometimes more) days without washing where before I felt like I needed to every day. It’s totally worth buying the products you recommend and I also love your honesty about how with products less is more. A sincere thank you for your help and your honesty it is so greatly appreciated! I’m very thankful for you!!!
Yeah, people are complaining about the price but I have found that I can actually use less product especially with shampoos. I am amazed about how little I actually need to get a rich lather. So when I think my shampoo and conditioner will need to be replaced quickly, it actually doesn't with the more expensive brands. Plus, with my hair type, I can actually get away with washing once a week which makes this even better.
I haven't switched my shampoo and conditioner out yet but after using the leave in conditioner after my shower today I was amazed at how easy it was to brush through my wet hair. I also like the Redken blowout cream too. I felt great after blow-dry. It was hard to get the opalex out of the bottle. I'll need to use more of that. Just purchased the opalex 3 today to fix my hair. Hope it works.
Hey, i have been using the same products he recommends but my hair is greasy the next day. How long did it take you to see the results because girl i have been struggling with this greasy scalp.
Maybe you didn't choose the right cheap products. Batiste's dry shampoo is AMAZING, better than some high end products I've used. The same goes for shampoos (e.g. Tahe is a wonderful, relatively inexpensive brand)Sorry but I don't think that all cheap hair products are worse than the expensive ones.
exactly. i hate this elitism of expensive just automatically equals better. many people, myself included, don’t really have the access to or the budget for high end hair care. and most people i know use drugstore. not all affordable products are just bad by default.
My hair has been transformed since watching your videos and following your recommendations. I used to think I just had weird crappy hair that would never behave or look good but I was wrong. Products and technique really make all the difference! You give the best hair advise on UA-cam, thank you!!
Me too! I had the same exact problem my whole life, but now my DIY platinum blonde hair is even healthier than my natural hair was because of his recommended products! I didnt think that could be possible
I don't style my hair so it still never looks good but it has been as soft as it's never been since switching my shampoo and using the right conditioners. What was an incredible step towards this softness was mixing the Redken conditioner with one from Nature Box I already had before changing my routine. You can't just mix conditioners willy-nilly but I looked it up and these two are fine together and the result speaks for itself. Now running my fingers through my hair is a new comfort I never knew before and am making the most out of, haha.
I love how he gives us advice and it's not just a sales pitch! So many others are like "buy MY shampoo/conditioner/whatever" versus him using his salon experience to recommend tried-and-true products.
I have very fine, almost straight hair. Even an oil heavy conditioner, very well rinsed out, can make my hair look limp and greasy. So I stayed away from oils for years. Then, my ends got really frizzy, and nothing seemed to help. So I bought a small sample bottle of oil ... and it took all the frizz away. I have to be very careful how I use it. Here's what I do. I very, very carefully pump out the absolute smallest drop of oil I can. Not a full pump, just the tiniest drip. I rub it all over the palms of my hands. then gently stroke my barely oily hands over my hair - just until my hair loses the frizz. When I'm done, there's still oil on my hands, so I wash them off. At this rate, I may never need to buy another bottle of oil again. This tiny bit of oil is all my hair needs. Everyone's hair is different, and you may (probably) will need more oil. FYI, I bought an expensive oil for my experiment, as the mini bottles don't cost that much. But I bet the lower cost oils will work if applied this way.
I found you a little while ago and your tips have made SUCH a big difference on my hair. I have wavy hair so have been following the ‘curly girl’ advice mostly. And have always been really protective with my hair. But now, I’m using the right products and have been able to heat style my hair and wear my hair with a beautiful blow out frequently. My hairdresser also commented that my hair was doing really well last time. It’s like the first time in my life I feel like I don’t just have to have waves all the time! I love my waves of course but variability is nice too! Also. Get a silk pillowcase people! Game changer Thank you!
Don't call them Target brands. Target also sells high end shampoo's and conditioners. The Target brand is Up & Up. Pantene and Dove, are not Target brands anymore than Redken is. This is important to get right, considering what you're trying to get across.
The "experiment " is total bs anyway. Nobody is taking this seriously don't worry 😂 it's beyond obvious they set this up for anything they don't endorse to "fail".
Swavy curly courtney has a whole series called One Brand Washdays - she tries many different brands - professional & drugstore, shows the before, after, end of day and the next day for how it looks. Highly recommend.
I am obsessed with this channel and I use every single expensive product in this video but for the first time non of these tests were fair. 1) There was visibly more oil to work with for the market products and they were not shaken well prior to spraying. Not your mothers sprayed no powder so of course it didn’t absorb the oil well. Also I would like to see the test for Batiste dry shampoo as well❤ 2) Yes Olaplex lasts 6 months because it has a dropper mouth and I use 3-5 drops each time. The other two just have a big hole so you easily spill too much product. I agree olaplex is the lightest oil out there cause I’ve used them all having fine hair. BUT they used so much more oil for market products in the video. 3) I hate nourishing market shampoos and they make my hair oily since I have fine hair and I use Redken volume BUT those are not dupes because you used “nourishing” market shampoos v. Volumizing high end shampoo. Instead, two volumizing or two nourishing ones should compete.
I’ve been following your channel and suggested products since October’23. Complete game changer. My hairdresser is SO happy!! My hair is amazing. Thank you!
I bit the bullet and bought your recommendations last May. I've been trying to grow my hair out for years, and it finally is! Also had a bunch of hair loss that persisted for years right until I stopped using cheap products... 🤔
I’ve been using the Garnier Flat Iron Protector for years and always go back if I try another. I straighten and flat iron and it keeps my hair straight better than anything else with fantastic movement to my hair. I don’t need hold from the Redkin because I want my hair to flow and anything with hold makes it stiff. You are curling hair with a FLAT IRON product - you are mixing apples with oranges. Anything with hold, when you are flat ironing, stiffens and dries out your hair because you are fighting the hold to get hair that is soft with movement. I hope I was able to get my point across.
It’ll be a year next month since I had my last haircut (save for two bang trims), and I’ve gone from hair right below my shoulders to hair down to my waist. I always thought I had dandruff, dry scalp, or psoriatic arthritis, but since stumbled on your videos, I’ve realized I was just using products that didn’t work. Thanks for getting me to understand my hair and save money in the process.
He also didn't even test good cheap products that people actually use. It's like he picked the worst cheap products he could find and tested them against products he loves and uses all the time
@@royyyyyyyyyy the point was that you are wasting money with cheap products and with the ammount of dry shampoo you would use with a cheap one you can just but a better one. Like using a 5 dollar one but buyong a new one every 2 weeks versus buying a more expensive one but lasting you months. So if you spend 5 dollars every 2 weekes that is already the same money if you spend 30 dollars on a expensive one that lasts 3 months. Just as an example. Idk how much exactly each would last but that was the whole point.
I have very fine white hair. Since I switched to Olaplex and Redken from my Wenn hair routine, my hair has stopped breaking at the ends, it looks thicker and stronger, and has an amazing shine. I no longer have to wash and style it every 2 days. I can now go a full 4-5 days and it still holds the style and shine. Thanks you for these videos. They have saved my hair.
I love the Redken shampoo and conditioner mentioned in this video. I had to wash my hair whenever I went outside which most of the time meant every day. I have been using it for the past 2 weeks and my hair has improved SIGNIFICANTLY. It is less oily and way shinier than before. Also, I have noticed that my hair looks like it has more volume. Anyway, now I do not have to wash my hair every day anymore which makes me very happy.
Redken volume injection lasts me 6 months, same with all these more expensive it’s actually working out cheaper. Chris saved my hair, so glad I’ve found this channel ❤
Y'all should have done the OGX oil on the hair against the Olaplex one. I've used both. I like both equally 🤷🏼♀️ I'm currently using the OGX one, you don't need a lot at all and it does spread for me just fine. I've been deep oiling my scalp 1-3 times per week (on wash days) and I use the OGX on my ends everyday. I use a small amount. My hair is still bouncy and so soft even on day 3 hair.
OGX first dry oil ingredient is dimethicone, one of the worst, heaviest, hardest to remove from your hair. Imho, anything OGX is garbage. They used to be called Organix until they were forced to change their name because there’s nothing organic about their products. I’d spend on Olaplex or for a de-frizzing oil, a couple drops of pure argan or grapeseed oil rubbed between your hands then smoothed over your hair.
@@chantellewilson9497 don't get me wrong the Olaplex one is great too but I prefer the OGX coconut one. My bottle is 1/3 full now and I've had it since last June. So 6-7 months. The small amount they use of the Olaplex one is the amount I use of the OGX one. Sometimes I forget to use it, but I use it a minimum of 3 times per week.
I just want to start out by saying I LOVE your channel. I was someone who went completely blonde the last 2 years and my stylist never schooled me on how to care for it. YOU did. With that said, I disagree with your dry shampoo part. I only use professional shampoo and conditioner, however I do use dry shampoo to maintain my scalp as I do produce a lot of oil. I do use "Not your mother's" as my professional shampoo does an amazing job and I only need it as a "little touch up" during the week. As I do think the $30 dry shampoo is superior I think there should be a caveat. Thank you for your videos and educating us all!
Totally agree the OGX coconut oil is waaaaaay too heavy to use the way you use it here and the Olaplex oil is much much better as a finishing oil. BUT please have a look at Abbey Yung’s videos where she uses the OGX coconut oil as a pre-wash conditioner and it’s a game changer! Also, would have loved a comparison of the Pantene Volume & Body with the Redken Volume as that’s more like for like and on a par which each other.
I was pretty much thinking all of this. Abbey talks about the chemical contents and how you don’t have to get the spendy product to get the benefits. Also worth noting- there are lots of salon brands with only drugstore ingredients. So it’s all very individual. It’s not that all drugstore brands are bad or that all salon brands are good.
I love drug store hair care tbh. If you have knowledge on ingredients and know what works for your hair , you can find amazing products. You can buy high end but it’s not for your hair type it’s not going to work, and vice versa with drug store. Only high end I use is k18 which Ik he doesn’t like but it really does wonders for myself and has helped keep my hair feeling better to prevent further damage.
Yeah, he talks a lot about saving money with high end products due to the quality. I have really only found that to be true with shampoo. I'm able to wash my hair a lot less frequently, and I actually am usually able to use less product when I do wash. So for me, it's worth it to buy fancy shampoo :). But for other types of products, including conditioner, hair masks, hair spray, heat protectant, etc., I end up using approximately the same amount of product at about the same frequency. I don't really style my hair very often at all, so the only high-end products I buy are regular shampoo and dry shampoo. The dry shampoo I am not saving money on -- it's just the only one that works for me. I've tried just about every other dry shampoo from the drugstore, amazon, etc. I've also tried a number of higher end dry shampoos. Literally none of hworked for me other than one brand lol...I've actually tried all 3 dry shampoos he compared in this video. I found them to all be equally just kind of effective, but not great. Though I would've said the Dove was the worst.

Me being one of those people. That’s why I spent months and months researching this list of products for myself and anyone that took the time to read this. Everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances, deserves to have beautiful healthy hair.
I took the plunge on buying the liter version of the Redken shampoo and conditioner… spent $75 (liter sale at ulta so $35 each down from $50 each!)… they will probably last me the whole year because I only wash twice max a week! Definitely worth it ❤ Edit… I am pretty sure this sale is still going until January 20th?
@@MiniiCitrus -Thanks! I just put together an order. Since I'm a first time buyer with them, they even texted me a 15% off coupon that I could apply to the Moroccan Oil.
Never thought I'd have to re-learn how to wash hair but here we are and thank you for that lesson it saved my head. Also never thought I'd need to put oil in my hair but that also saved my hair. Glad I watch your videos. Thank you for all the lessons and product tryouts so I don't have to.
I love the Moroccanoil shampoo and conditioner and I use Olaplex for damage. My hair is damaged from Lupus but has benefited so much from medication and advice on this channel. Thanks for moving me from the drugs store brands.
Like with most things in life, you get what you pay for! I was always super reluctant to fork out on my hair even though I spend £££s every week on things that I don't need. I finally bit the bullet and started buying salon brand hair products after finding this channel. My hair is SO much healthier and I'm still working my way through the first Redken duo after 6 months as I'm washing my hair less and my styling lasts longer. It's worth it!
Same, I've always been at a loss with taking care of my hair and since a year ago when I started listening to Chris here, game changed! I was always cheap with products but needed more all the time.. Since I started using better quality which is usually more expensive, I don't have to wash it as often and it's finally healthy. It doesn't have to be super expensive, either.. the one thing I go through quicker is conditioner of course, since we need more of it. But we're not supposed to need a lot of shampoo and now I really see/feel the difference:) there are some higher priced products that aren't for everyone's hair though, gotta go through a few sometimes to figure out what's best or even just take notes on all of the advice we get from this channel and it's better right away:):)
@@amyestrada1966Not sure what you meant with the last bit of what you said. But honestly, yes, after just one time of using the right products there is really a difference. I used to cry thinking my hair was messed forever, no one had the right answers and nothing I tried worked.. ended up with way too many products I didn't need, ended up being more expensive anyway.. I found this channel, took notes from all the videos we should listen to, took the advice and instantly my hair was different.. a year later following this advice my hair has come a long way when it wouldn't change for Years.
@@jaloemimoe2319 my hair is medium/fine but it's pretty long too, we shouldn't be using more shampoo than short hair girls! Remember only to use shampoo on your scalp (I used to use it through the ends too) and that's helped me save so much product! Long hair girls shouldn't have to pay more 😂
I started using the redken volume injection shampoo and conditioner after it was recommended on the product list, my hair had never looked better... those two products are SO SO good. I had bypass surgery 2 months ago and my hair is getting quite thin, but you literally can't tell the difference because the shampoo and conditioner make my hair so bouncy and beautiful.
Me and my mother listend to you. My mother was so sad, her hair was dry, breaking, frizzy and not getting long. We are doing everything you ever said, and our hair is so so so so so much better and looks amazing because we are no longer afraid of using heat. We want to thank you for all of your tips❤
I tried the Redken volume injection shampoo and conditioner on my medium weight wavy hair and I love it!Thanks for the recommendation! It smells good and doesn’t weigh down my hair and my hair stays clean for a few days! I like redken products in general. Their full frame foam works perfectly on my losse curls and waves.
Big thank you Chris and Leslie 🙌 I switched to the Redken professional shampoo and conditioner after watching go it videos, and I have oily hair and since switching I can go four days in between washes and that is with me exercising daily as I ride horses for a living and still my hair remains clean. So grateful to have found your channel 🥳
I had to stop following her since every product she recommended that I tried made my hair worse 😢 OGX oil was one I tried in so many different ways and it made my hair feel awful and took weeks to go back to normal. Other recommendations she made just never worked for me.
may I say I love the olaplaex line, I know not every product is for everyone but olaplex 3 is my holy grail, I tried the K18 and the living proof, its literally night and day, the K18 and the living proof are terrible, just weight the hair down and the living proff I followed the instructions to a T and it made my hair feel like plastic and I had a bunch of breakage, like I don't know what to do with that, do I try to use less and maybe it will be ok, its just weird, where as Olaplex 3 is like incredible and never makes you play guessing games and always makes your hair beautiful and feel good like how you want your hair to be feeling, clean and healthy and bouncy and smoothed out, Olaplex 3 is the best hands down for anyone with any level of any damage ever!!! This is amazing to see the difference in these products, Im amazed at the differences, thank you for doing this video Chris, this is really helpful!!!
Olaplex oil smells like nothing from inside the bottle but it actually has a pleasant fruity smell. I use very little two times a week, so those 30 bucks seem like a lot but, as Chris says, it will last you for a long time even if you're using a bit more a bit more often than me.
Thank you for showing the actual difference, I admit to having considered some cheap options vs. the more expensive versions. Ended on happy middle with over 10 years of usage on Head and Shoulders due to having Dandruff, would love to see the middle ground too and not just the cheap vs. expensive options. Admittedly I am hesitant to buy redken due to their price, having natural curls and being a student. You speak very little of natural curls, so it makes me think that it is out of your expertise range, which is fair. I am still learning these things though and it is very interesting to see the differences. I have definitely seen the difference between some higher end products and lower end products where it was not even close. I am still not super good at hairdrying/diffusing, but i'll get there eventually.
If you want to learn how to care for your curls, the best person to watch is Manes by Mel. She is very helpful and gives you full explanations on why you should do what she shows you to. She is a hairdresser for curly hair. Amazing skills, and her playlists incorporate any question you could have with demos.
I ain't even a girl and I enjoy watching these videos because of the honest comparisons and information given by a guy like him who know's the lies in the hair care industry. I personally just shampoo, condition and use oil but the difference is insane.
My hair is 80 cm long and bleached... and I'm very happy to have found your channel. I live in Germany and have just replaced all my cheap products from the supermarket with your better quality products. My long hair will be grateful. Best wishes and thank you 🥰
I love this channel! It's great to have advice from an actual stylist to have the most effective way to improve hair. Lots of influencers just have genetically nice hair while they are promoting time consuming home recipes that may or may not work.
This was exactly the video I was looking for. My hair has been so much better since I switched shampoo based on your recommended product list. I still was hanging on to some of my other drug store brands for other products but now I'm convinced to switch!
I’ve watched probably over a hundred of your videos and yet i continue to learn something new with every video! Keep doing what you do, we (and our hair) are so grateful for you and your consistent content
Chris, I was a lifelong believer in the idea that "drugstore products are just as good" but you converted me to salon products. I switched out our shower head for a fancy one with an in-built filter that filters hard water. And bought the moroccanoil line. And OH MY GOD. My hair is buttery soft. I literally can't believe it. Thank you SO MUCH
omg , i am about to buy that for my hair , cuz of his quizzz i have ALOT of volume wavy and dryness and zero scalp oils, my son has pin straight greasy hair zero volume. LOLL my hair has high porosity , it cannot hold moisture. or oil.
@@melissaverdoni845 that sounds really really similar to mine!!!!! i basically have exactly the same hair. my hairs become A LOT softer since switching to moroccanoil shampoo/conditioner/oil. i also gently blow dry after washing as per chris' instructions. i prob have the nicest hair i've ever had :)
DermaE makes a dupe of the Olaplex oil for about half the price. Similar packaging and texture. I would recommend that if you want to save a little. I don't think the oil comparison was the most informative because there's a huge variety of oils with varying textures, and they can be used differently. OGX is great as a pre-shampoo treatment. There are other oils and serums, too.
I’ve been using the ones you have suggested. Redken. Recently I went out of town and didn’t have my go to poo/conditioner. I used dove damage repair from the dollar store Omg! My hair felt so much better with the cheap stuff. The Redken dries out my ends regardless of how much conditioner I use. I also use the leave in you recommend and the hair oil at the ends. The dollar store stuff along with the leave ins made my hair feel silky and smooth. Not like hay at the ends.
You make a lot of recommendations for Redken products. Do you have recommendations for cruelty free alternatives or perhaps a comparison video to show that the best cruelty free options do not match Redken products?
When I was younger, I only used cheap products. My hair always looked great. In my 30s, it started to get frizzy and stringy. I now only use expensive products (changing them up constantly searching or my holy grail). Nothing makes it look better. I am almost tempted to go back to cheap products since nothing helps.
Try the Redken acidic bond repair or start with the Loreal dupe. It did wonders for my hair after it fell out f4om bleach damage. And maybe a scalp treatment
I did this exact thing. I did buy the Redken shampoo bc I have the flattest roots to ever exist. For conditioner I bought the cheap L’Oréal bond building one. Hair feels much softer for sure
Honestly, why not? Drug store is cheap, there’s not much loss if you want to start trying cheaper options, I have a mix of cheap and expensive products, cheapest is conditioner. I was once traveling abroad at someone else’s house spending the night, and the only hair conditioner available was a super cheap local brand one, BEST I’ve ever used, hair was soft, shiny, and manageable. (I have coarse frizzy hair)
Loved this video! I got all your recommended products for Christmas and definitely notice a difference but it's great to see exactly why they are better. The one downside is they don't smell as nice as my cheap drug store options. Thanks again for this informative video and all your great advice! 😊
You have no idea how your videos have changed my hair. They look shiny and healthy. Thanks for all the efforts you put into making these videos. They really worth it.
I just celebrated 🎉 my year anniversary of following your channel. I am thankful I found you. My hair has been much healthier since following your advice, I’ve still had my ups and downs with my hair, but I believe I’m headed in the right direction. 😊
I tried the Redken shampoo and the Olaplex based on your recommendations, and I absolutely love them! My hair looks and feels so much better. Thank you! If I were trying to describe the scent of the Redken shampoo, by the way, I would say it smells like green tea and powdery flowers. It's a soft scent that is not overwhelming, kinda quirky but I really like it.
Exactly a year since my ‘I’m going to sort my hair out’ New Year’s resolution. My hair was brittle , breaking and falling out, plus curly and had to be cut short as the ends were like pieces of cotton hanging down. Now it’s shoulder length curls which are growing nicely, blunt ish on the ends as it’s a work in progress, it’s so much healthier, bouncy and dare I say has a slight shine😊✨ all thanks to you and the 3 step routine, leave in conditioner mids and oil the ends. Can’t thank you enough for your advice xx
Just noting that that OGX brand is very expensive where I live, in Australia. One bottle of OGX is $23 - so getting both the shampoo and conditioner costs $46. Yes cosmetic products are more expensive here because they're mostly imported, but OGX goes well beyond the rest. That Pantene shampoo is $8 here - so OGX is almost triple the price of other 'drug store' hair care. And it's always been that way. So it's almost genuinely upsetting to see it's "another cheap drugstore brand" in the US, and then see these results... we have been well and truly scammed. Considering Redken is $25 per bottle here, basically the same price.
I've been using your recommended list and it changed my hair. I love the IGK shampoo and conditioner! My hair is growing back and looking healthy. I recently got a haircut and I told my stylist what I've been using and she said my hair looked healthy. I'm so pleased on how it looks and feels.
I started growing my hair in January from a pixie cut. The internet led me to Chris and Leslie. I wish I knew when I started using the redken shampoo and pureology leave in with olaplex oil. It’s unbelievable. Then my 86 year old mom got a perm and burned most her hair off. She reluctantly got a pixie due to damage. 8 months later and her hair has never looked so good. Thank you, Chris. The fuss about you is true. You’ve saved two heads of hair here.
I used to buy shampoo and conditioner every month before I started using Redken. Now I only need to buy twice a year when Ulta has the jumbo sale. I’ve saved so much money!
I bought the Olaplex oil after you recommended it for taming the frizz the second day and refreshing your hair. It works a dream! I would never believe that the oil can make your hair look fresh and bouncy while killing flyaways. Funnily enough, I used the Fructis oil before and while it helps the dry ends, it definitely weighs them down, no bounce. I have been using Olaplex oil on shoulder blade length hair for three months and there is hardly a dent in my bottle.
They aren’t target brands. They are name brands you can get at target and many other stores. They may all be bad products, but they’re not target products.
It's much easier/less redundant to call cheap products that way, it causes less confusion. and as the brands are not omitted or hidden at any time, it is clear to understand the reason for the classification, that is, at least most people can
Yesterday at U L T A I bought the Pureology Color Fanatic leave-in 6.7 ounces for $18.94. It has to be purchased via their app plus use the current coupon. The larger size also had a special app price. I have just below the shoulders length hair and this product will probably last for 2-3 months maybe longer. I have never actually used it before but bought it based on this channel. I read in the comments how the professional products are expensive for some people. But, most products have sales.
I've tried the Redken Volume shampoo and after a couple of months it made my fine hair very dry and my scalp very itchy. I do use leave-in conditioner and hair oil or leave-in hair treatments but they just couldn't make up for how dry my hair got because of this shampoo. It does clean up the scalp very well and now I find if I only use it once or twice a month it's fine but not more than that. So not for me.
Unfortunately, it happened to me too.. I loved this shampoo and I used like 2 bottles and bought the 3rd one (so it’s been months I’ve used it) I noticed that my sculp became more and more itchy. I thought it was caused by something else (allergy, food, a hat, whatever) and only after I stopped using this shampoo I started to see improvements. The shampoo is good but it overdries the scalp a lot
The only professional brad that actually made a huge difference in my hair was the Kerastase one. No other professional brand was impressive enough to continue buying it against drugstore ones.
This was so helpful to see how these different products work in relation to each other. I’ll definitely try to be getting the more expensive products because they work so much better! The Olaplex oil was especially interesting. Especially when you said that it lasts so long for being such a small bottle. Thanks so much for doing these kinds of reviews!
I’ve had a few questions since I started your recommended hair routine. I have long and fine hair but even with the Redken shampoo, I still have to wash my hair every three days because my scalp has always produced oil faster than average. With the Redken volume injection, do I have to blow dry or can I let it air dry? I have trouble finding the air dry shampoo online. I also prefer using a more natural conditioner like Raw Sugar or SheaMoisture and I don’t feel that they weigh my hair down. Also, can I mix and match the shampoo and conditioners, or do I have to use the Redken shampoo with the Redken conditioner? For me, I use what I know works, and I think there are a lot of just as good drugstore products that aren’t on your list.
You can mix and match brands. That's just marketing to get us to buy more. Blow dry your fine hair. Blow dried hair produces less oil. Check out Abbey Yung's channel for more on this topic.
May you do a video on the “curly hair routine” and your opinions/ recommendations for products for all hair density’s on curl creams and curl gels please 🙏🏼
This is amazing. Do this with my favorite drugstore products!!! You should take a poll of what brand shampoo everyone suspects is the best drugstpre based on their experience and do more. Im sure most will bw the same resukts but they make great videos! Im slowly buying your recommendations however i still need budget options and alao i LOVE the smell of L'Oreal Dream lengths(orange and pink bottle) i believe in the US its called Elvive here its something else
I use that exact Redken shampoo and conditioner. A brand was kind enough to send me their new drug store shampoo and conditioner that was supposed to be salon quality. I was really rooting for it to be good, but I only used it the one time. It was a huge difference.
Stayed at my parents' house for a few days over Christmas, and used my mom's Pantene 2 in 1 because it was what was there, and even after using a leave in conditioner and applying oil to the ends, my hair felt so dry. Granted, I'm in the North and it's winter, but man, I guess I'll bring shampoo and conditioner, too.
Oddly, my mom's hair felt just fine after using the same products (I gave her a blowout), but her hair is a lot longer and thicker than mine, as well as having less gray, so I guess I didn't get her hair. Mine could be drier because I color. No bleach, just get my roots touched up every 6-8 weeks because I'm 80% gray at 43.
Never use any all-in-one shampoo and conditioner. It's just a bad idea and doesn't work. I occasionally use some moisturizing Pantene products and really like some of them.
Would love recommendations for fragrance free products that actually work! I find myself needing to buy “natural” products just to avoid fragrances, but they seem to be either super drying or super heavy. Fine and flat, but thick hair.
Curlsmith has a whole line of fragrance free styling items and The Ordinary has a shampoo and conditioner that are excellent and no fragrance. Loma and Seen also have fragrance free options.
@@PandoricaLost I don't feel like the Curlsmith fragrance free shampoo ever gets my scalp clean and the conditioner is very heavy. I like the Necessaire shampoo and conditioner which are both fragrance free.
So I use the fructis oil and I actually use less than that on my whole head on wet hair and it feels light, it's shiny, and smooth, no frizz. I understand you get what you pay for, and that olaplex is the better option, but if you wanna be on a budget, it's nice to have the fructis option Love your vids ❤
I’m curious if you recommend the bonding oil for someone who has thinning hair now that they are in their 60’s, or should we skip that step? You are doing a wonderful service to the community. Thank you
I went so many years without using a hair oil because I thought it was pointless. Finally invested in the Olaplex 7, and wow. Game changer for my hair. It’s the one product I can’t live without!
My hair has been so much healthier since finding your channel. The only problem is that the redken volume injection makes my scalp SO flaky, I use Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo and that kind of helps but I do feel like my hair gets dirtier quicker than it should
Thanks.❤ I buy the pro products nowdays... I know they are more expensive bit I can' t handle my hair anymore. Finally I can brush my hair.... I always used drugstore stuff ( and without silicones) and my hair was a knot nest...
Curious to understand why you chose moisture shampoos for the Target finds, but volume injection for the pro side? Would have thought similar type of products for comparison?
We thought it would be too unfair to the target brands during the oil stripping test. Wanted to show the most drying professional type (volume shampoos) vs the most moisturizing target :)
Redken use to be my favorite until I tried the new line for damaged hair (pre-shampoo bonding treatment and leave in conditioner. It made my hair fall out frizzy fuzzy breakage. I went on Ultra to check out more reviews and wow it’s happed to alot of women. Awesome video!!! And thanks for all the wonderful tips on hair care
Ive been using the redken shampoo for almost a year now and i just wanna say that since ive been using it i dont wash my hair every day so the shampoo last waaaay longer than another other shampoo. ty Chris so being so and all the products you recommend work miracles, and ive never been happier with my hair 👍
I've found using both inexpensive and high end stuff hit and miss. My hair was super healthy using both but also some products with both where it just looked and felt like garbage.
I would love to see on the same type of hair (how fine, medium, coarse) side by side how the Redken Volume injection compares to the Moraccan Oil Moisture Repair. To show how each (shampoo and conditioner) compare on fine, medium, coarse hair and the wear time. Some of us have frizzy hair that's fine and the Redken set gets and keeps the hair clean but not as conditioned, but it's frizzier (even though it's supposed to be fine hair by how many days until it gets icky and greasy, 2-3) And the Moraccan Oil get hair clean but smoother with less frizz, but a bit less lasting time between wash. A demonstration on fine, medium and coarse hair like this (shampoo and conditioner) might helps some of us who find the Redken causes a bit of frizz but the Moraccan Oil less frizz, but less time between washes.
The day I threw out all my old products watching this video. I have so many products that I have tons of half bottles because I kept trying new ones. And nothing worked like I needed it to.😩 I’m so on board with your recommendations. Thanks
I would love to see pricy products go up against each other. Like Kerastase against redken to see what’s worth the price.
This !!!!!!
Yes!
Kerastase against purology
I’ve never been that impressed with Kerastase, so yes I’d love to see that also.
Yes!
Unfortunately, not everyone can afford high-end products. It would be nice to see a video finding those cheaper products that you would choose if you had to.
The high end products do last longer and a small amount goes a long way.
Stop buying the cheap crap and buy the better stuff. It will last longer, which makes it CHEAPER. Example:
1 bottle of $7 shampoo that last 1 month vs 1 bottle of $25 shampoo that lasts 4 months because you use less of it. That $25 shampoo is actually cheaper than buying the $7 shampoo every month.
@@LinnLinnok-fe5tq yeah I just budgeted for the redken shampoo, and it works pretty well.
Yep this one was really obvious! I usually love the content but this made me doubt a little...
@@AnOutLawsMotherme too!!
I swapped out and added products he recommends as well and I can't agree more! I feel like I finally tamed the beast on top of my head
Which products did you use in particular? What’s your hair type?
I agree i love batiste
Totally agree on Batiste!
Or soap and glory's dry shampoo
exactly. i hate this elitism of expensive just automatically equals better. many people, myself included, don’t really have the access to or the budget for high end hair care. and most people i know use drugstore. not all affordable products are just bad by default.
I love batiste but I agree that dove does nothing
My hair has been transformed since watching your videos and following your recommendations. I used to think I just had weird crappy hair that would never behave or look good but I was wrong. Products and technique really make all the difference! You give the best hair advise on UA-cam, thank you!!
Me too! I had the same exact problem my whole life, but now my DIY platinum blonde hair is even healthier than my natural hair was because of his recommended products! I didnt think that could be possible
@@briacabz that's great! 👍
What do you wash your hair with?
12:22 The tester used WAY too much of the Fructis oil for half her hair- not a fair assessment. Chris, you had JUST said 'less is more'!!!
I zoomed in both.. and seemed that she used the same amount on both sides 😰 i use almost this amount from the Moroccanoil oil
@@yaraawad1987 I did as well and would say that she used about 2x the Fructis compared to the Olaplex!
@@yaraawad1987 Try using less, and spreading it REALLY well in your palms before applying
@@LittleMissHoop ok super many many thanks 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Game changer
Thank you!
And a couple bonnets.
I very similar hair! Would you be able to list the specific products you use and love?
Don't call them Target brands. Target also sells high end shampoo's and conditioners. The Target brand is Up & Up. Pantene and Dove, are not Target brands anymore than Redken is. This is important to get right, considering what you're trying to get across.
I didn’t process it like this at all I knew exactly what he was talking about by the title
The "experiment " is total bs anyway. Nobody is taking this seriously don't worry 😂 it's beyond obvious they set this up for anything they don't endorse to "fail".
he knows it, but if you buy them in target he doesnt get a commision like he does when you buy through his amazon link 😂😂😂😂

I'd love to see drugstore/ affordable curly/kinky/thick hair products versus luxury/ high end curly/kinky/thick hair products
Swavy curly courtney has a whole series called One Brand Washdays - she tries many different brands - professional & drugstore, shows the before, after, end of day and the next day for how it looks. Highly recommend.
I have curly mixed w/ kinky hair and I would love love love this too. I've learned so much from Chris, it's unreal💯
I am obsessed with this channel and I use every single expensive product in this video but for the first time non of these tests were fair.
1) There was visibly more oil to work with for the market products and they were not shaken well prior to spraying. Not your mothers sprayed no powder so of course it didn’t absorb the oil well. Also I would like to see the test for Batiste dry shampoo as well❤
2) Yes Olaplex lasts 6 months because it has a dropper mouth and I use 3-5 drops each time.
Agreed, these tests were all so biased. He also needed to pick actual good cheap products like batiste
Thats awesome! Im in the same boat!
I love your videos but theway these "tests" were conducted felt a little off and not fair towards all products.
Yea, like the dry shampoo in hair she was leaning forward for the expensive one…
Which Redken do you use?
which redken do you use?
Thank you, Chris and Leslie! My hair is so soft and smooth since I started watching your videos and buying the high-end products. Huge difference!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching and trusting us! ❤️❤️❤️
@anastasiaalexandra916 Which oil do you use???
@@SG-wq4rm I've used both Olaplex and the coconut OGX as well as the argan oil OGX, currently I use the coconut oil OGX on my ends daily.
Yes I use the argon oil ogx and never have an issue
@@chantellewilson9497 don't get me wrong the Olaplex one is great too but I prefer the OGX coconut one. My bottle is 1/3 full now and I've had it since last June. So 6-7 months. The small amount they use of the Olaplex one is the amount I use of the OGX one. Sometimes I forget to use it, but I use it a minimum of 3 times per week.
Newbie here I just binged watched your videos and started your suggestions and WOW! I have new salon at home! Thank you Chris❤
I also use to the OGX coconut oil before I pre-shampoo so it doesn't matter that it is heavy. It works for me as I don't use that as finishing oil.
I was thinking the same thing about Abbey’s video… remember how she said OBX also makes a spray oil that is lighter?
I tried that. NO bueno. Though it smells good- it’s way too oily. Not buying it.
Prewash conditioning is a complete waste of time and money. Ridiculous. Stop listening to anyone who advises such nonsense.

@@jaloemimoe2319 my hair is medium/fine but it's pretty long too, we shouldn't be using more shampoo than short hair girls! Remember only to use shampoo on your scalp (I used to use it through the ends too) and that's helped me save so much product! Long hair girls shouldn't have to pay more 😂
It was pricey, but I purchased all of the products you suggested for my super thick, unruly hair. I could not be happier. Thanks so much!!!
MYSTERY SOLVED!!! You saved me anguish and time tyring to figure this out myself! Now I know exactly what to do.
Me and my mother listend to you. My mother was so sad, her hair was dry, breaking, frizzy and not getting long. We are doing everything you ever said, and our hair is so so so so so much better and looks amazing because we are no longer afraid of using heat. We want to thank you for all of your tips❤
what do you use :)?
@@cutepoiisonn watch his video's. He will tell you all the stuff you need
In redken which line u r using?
@@abiramipadmanaban3588 volume injection shampoo and conditioner
That ogx oil is amazing!!!! I watch abbey and I love her because she actually tells you what brands work from stores and not just 30$& above
Olaplex 3 is great My other favorite is redken acidic bonding pre treatment and the 5 min treatment mask. Great redken line as well
Olaplex oil smells like nothing from inside the bottle but it actually has a pleasant fruity smell.
You are SO RIGHT about the economics of quality products. My IGK Love bottle is 6 months old and still not empty!
Love IGK!
Absolutely! I bought my professional products all months ago and everything is still almost full
Best wishes and thank you 🥰
I would love to see a review on recommended products for someone who prefers to air dry with curly hair ♥️
His channel is called blowout professor so many other channels smh🤦🏻♀️
I love this channel! It's great to have advice from an actual stylist to have the most effective way to improve hair. Lots of influencers just have genetically nice hair while they are promoting time consuming home recipes that may or may not work.
This was exactly the video I was looking for. My hair has been so much better since I switched shampoo based on your recommended product list. I still was hanging on to some of my other drug store brands for other products but now I'm convinced to switch!
I followed your advice and honestly it's such a drastic change. I'll never look back
Can you please make a budget friendly but effective hair routin????? ❤
@@cerenthekoala thank you !! i got the leave-in conditionner , next is the shampoo and conditionner and mask.
You should try Japanese and korean hair specially Japanese haircare!
Why?
Do they make dry shampoo?
@@pbear7814 they do, Diane has a very famous one
I used baby powder with cornstarch from the Dollar Tree recently as a dry shampoo. It worked great!
My hair has never looked and felt better since I've been following your videos and recommendations! Thank you!!
Wash just your scalp, not the ends. Residual suds take care of mids and ends.
@@JC-ez8nsI never wash my ends.
That comes with age, bond builder really helped my hair.
Did you change your diet? Had pregnancies? Your hormones could have changed
LOL I'm 100% with you on the smells. It's weird right?
Maybe the scents have something to do with the performance of shampoos... Just me thinking
You have no idea how your videos have changed my hair. They look shiny and healthy. Thanks for all the efforts you put into making these videos. They really worth it.
I’ve been using Batiste’s dry shampoo for darker hair (I have brunette hair) for a few months now, so I’d like to see that vs. the Living Proof one.
I second this!😊
Hi! I've been wondering if I should buy that one. Does it have any strong scent?
@@mariaignacialeonorno
Dollar Tree sells a Batiste dupe.
they also have a "bare" version that's a bit less scented 😊@@mariaignacialeonor
Glad to see new content!!! Would love to see Kerastase or purology review
I just celebrated 🎉 my year anniversary of following your channel. I am thankful I found you. My hair has been much healthier since following your advice, I’ve still had my ups and downs with my hair, but I believe I’m headed in the right direction. 😊
WOW! So impressed with your shampoo testing wth the natural hair extensions! Props!
Can't wait to experience Live Love Locks in person! Will be there in a few weeks!
I love the explanation of what makes each hair product better than others.
It's even worse in New Zealand 🇳🇿
Our dollar is weaker that is why
I've been using your recommended list and it changed my hair. I love the IGK shampoo and conditioner! My hair is growing back and looking healthy. I recently got a haircut and I told my stylist what I've been using and she said my hair looked healthy. I'm so pleased on how it looks and feels.
Ogx messed up my hair. Completely trashed it. The irony is that I only started using it because I'd jumped on the 'no sulphate' train 🤦🏻♀️
I found that at first it cleaned my hair and made it soft but now I don't get the same amount of suds anymore and my hair is also like straw
Love Living Proof dry shampoo! I’ve tried many brands but this one is the best. It’s worth the $30 price tag, especially if you have colored hair.
The only professional brad that actually made a huge difference in my hair was the Kerastase one. No other professional brand was impressive enough to continue buying it against drugstore ones.
Which one helped you.
I let it just air dry (my hair is too fragile). It still gives volume at the roots.
If you're not using a blow dryer, you're going to have to wash more
You can mix and match brands.
I've ordered the redkin one and always use ogx, so I'm really excited to see how it'll match up on my hair. Thank you 💕
Would love recommendations for fragrance free products that actually work! I find myself needing to buy “natural” products just to avoid fragrances, but they seem to be either super drying or super heavy. Fine and flat, but thick hair.
Mee to
Curlsmith has a whole line of fragrance free styling items and The Ordinary has a shampoo and conditioner that are excellent and no fragrance. Loma and Seen also have fragrance free options.
@@PandoricaLost I don't feel like the Curlsmith fragrance free shampoo ever gets my scalp clean and the conditioner is very heavy. I like the Necessaire shampoo and conditioner which are both fragrance free.
I really which more beauty and hair care products were fragrance free!!!
So I use the fructis oil and I actually use less than that on my whole head on wet hair and it feels light, it's shiny, and smooth, no frizz.
I understand you get what you pay for, and that olaplex is the better option, but if you wanna be on a budget, it's nice to have the fructis option
Love your vids ❤
Thanks you for helping us ❤
Can you do one with the leave in conditioner? 😊
I’m curious if you recommend the bonding oil for someone who has thinning hair now that they are in their 60’s, or should we skip that step? You are doing a wonderful service to the community. Thank you
Garnier always smells amazing. That’s why I used it for so long.
I went so many years without using a hair oil because I thought it was pointless. Finally invested in the Olaplex 7, and wow. Game changer for my hair. It’s the one product I can’t live without!
My hair has been so much healthier since finding your channel. The only problem is that the redken volume injection makes my scalp SO flaky, I use Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo and that kind of helps but I do feel like my hair gets dirtier quicker than it should
I wonder if you could use some Head and Shoulders only on your scalp once per week or so. I'm concerned about switching shampoos for that reason
Thanks.❤ I buy the pro products nowdays... I know they are more expensive bit I can' t handle my hair anymore.
Finally I can brush my hair....
I always used drugstore stuff ( and without silicones) and my hair was a knot nest...
I am so grateful for your videos! I thought my hair was a lost case, but now it looks better than ever😍
Curious to understand why you chose moisture shampoos for the Target finds, but volume injection for the pro side? Would have thought similar type of products for comparison?
We thought it would be too unfair to the target brands during the oil stripping test. Wanted to show the most drying professional type (volume shampoos) vs the most moisturizing target :)
yeah makes sense @@BlowoutProfessor i wuold be curious to see the morocanoil :)
I’m curious what you think about Living Proof’s newer dry shampoo, the Advanced Clean.
The day I threw out all my old products watching this video. I have so many products that I have tons of half bottles because I kept trying new ones. And nothing worked like I needed it to.😩
I’m so on board with your recommendations. Thanks
