I agree about the grey topper. I only do a balayage once a year and have lots of grey running through most of the time and I have long hair like your mom❤🙏
Thanks. Very helpful. As a fine hair person I have wanted to try a hair topper but don't want the clips to cause hair breakage. Have you had any breakage in the area where the clips are?
@@christinecoleman7232 Hi Christine - that's a very valid worry. Although my hair is thinning, I still have enough that there is a lot for the clips to hold onto. Because the tension is spread out across so many hairs, that seems to prevent breakage - I have not noticed any. But my aunt has the same question you do, so I was looking into other style toppers for her. I haven't tried them, so I can't necessarily recommend them, but it looks like @MilanoWigs offers alternative attachment methods that are safe for those of us with more hair loss. (If you check out their UA-cam channel, you'll see what I mean.) I hope that helps! ❤
@@dewuknowofHyMn I had a family member whose hair became that fine and thin. She ultimately started wearing wigs. I didn't even know she wore them, because they looked just like her hair always had!
Another volumizing tip I do nightly before bed is pull the crown area of my hair up into a small soft scrunchy and sleep that way. When I take the scrunchy out in the morning - Instant Volume! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Well, you certainly knocked this one out of the park! I’m almost 70 and love my long gray hair. But I too struggle with the fine thinness that truly only seems to be more pronounced as time marches on! Uni Wigs!!! Please make a topper for older women with long grey fine hair!!! We are out here needing HELP!!!
Exactly! Time turns all of us grey, and I haven't heard of a lot of people boasting thicker hair as they age. I obviously haven't done the market research that companies do, but based on the response of so many commenters wishing they had longer grey options, I feel like there's a huge market gap. All of my friends who are older women complain that they feel increasingly invisible as they age. I wonder if they're also invisible to the people who do market research. It sure seems that way, doesn't it?
There are other brand names that offer it. Go online but make sure it’s returnable or go to a wig shop and try them on. A good wig shop can cut it, thin it out if needed and style it for you as well.
@@TheStyleStumbler I've started to just put my hair in a bun on top of my head. My hair is long. Many think I look gorgeous! I'm still growing out my colored hair.
@d.g2147 - YES ! Good video. My hair is even finer than this woman’s. You can see through it ! Lol. My hair gets oily by late afternoon, no matter what. Curlers also hold longer for me than a curling iron.
You are so ahead of the curve by trying alternative hair. I've done the same thing after a bout of covid 19 in 22 my previously thick fine hair ...started falling out. I was told it would probably grow back, but sadly it didn't. Now I have thin fine hair but my secret weapon is my toppers!
My hair has definitely started to thin (it looks like it's a family trait) so I'm happy to learn how to integrate alternative hair early on. Then I have time to get used to it. Isn't it great to have such a beautiful secret weapon? Thanks for taking a moment to share your experience!
Please look into collagen peptides (get a brand with all types, grass fed, 2 scoops every day in coffee for first can, 1 soup after) my hsir, after almost 8 weeks into taking this. My hair, at age 72, is better than zI've ever had. Ever. Didn't lose it over Cv & now fighting Long Cv & MCAS..... try 2 1-lb cans. If you don't notice your hair eyelashes, nails are growing like never before & in better health, stop it. But give it two months, 10 weeks.
Lady, if you love using a hand held dryer, then setting it and then running around in curlers for hour that is great, but you might want to dump the hand held dryer and replace it with an inexpensive Revlon one-step. Wash your hair and let it air dry to damp (about 15 mins), then use a Revlon one step dryer (it has a brush on the end) and finish drying your hair. It only takes about 5 minutes and you will have tons of volume you can seal in with your beauty products. I know. I have fine hair. By the way, Amazon sells the Revlon one step for about $36, so it won’t break the bank.
Thanks for the suggestion, Arlene! I actually have the Revlon One Step and you're right: it does do a good job of drying. I use the One Step on days when I want a straight look (because my hair stays straight as a rod when I use it). And when I timed it, drying it completely with the One Step takes equally as long as briefly blow-drying the roots and then curling it (in total, about 10 minutes). It's true that I have to walk around in the rollers for a while, but that has never bothered me. And I like the movement and body it creates in my hair. I appreciate that you took the time to share your fine-haired secret with us! (Especially such an easy and affordable one!)
No hand held dryer (with a brush on the end or not) will ever adequately style fine textured hair like a damp Velcro set that’s dried all over simultaneously with a hood or bonnet-type dryer. It takes way less time in the long run and will last a lot longer. Hand-held dryer styling usually doesn’t last beyond half a day at most, and if there’s ANY humidity outside at all, these sets are typically gone in only a few minutes.
@@LSS495 Thanks. I'm not going to spend the money on one then. I always do a blowout, curl sectrions with hot brush, stick a velcro roller in it, use a couple different types of spray, and have pretty decent hair unless humidity hits. Good tip.
This is a really helpful video, and I want to tell you how professional you are as you explain all the steps you take. You are a very skilled orator and listening to you was a pleasure.
I love your unaffected openness and tips, many thanks! A tip from me - because my hair also gets oily really fast. Years back I nursed a stroke patient and initially used “dry shampoo”… then one day I wondered what was in it and to my great surprise 😮 I saw it was only talc with an accelerant!! Soooo, I started fluffing my oily hair parts (normally the front) with some baby powder, not talc (that’s now been found potentially carcinogenic), but with cornstarch baby powder. It also adds super volume to my hair too!! Just don’t overdo it, or you’ll end up looking much older! 😅 Would love to hear your singing too.
Ooooooo - thank you for taking a moment to share that tip! Dry shampoo is my favorite, and I've long thought about making my own - especially since I started using "poof" bottles instead of sprays. But now I think I'll try the cornstarch baby powder you recommend (once my current stash runs out). If you'd like to hear some music, this is my music channel: www.youtube.com/@StephanieForryan
EAU. MAH. GAWDDD!!! More than six decades fighting this hair, and you FINALLY clue me in that heat isn't the answer! I was born too late for wet-to-dry sets being common, so I never figured it out. MIND BLOWN!
I’m in my 60’s and have fine, thin, straight hair and my mom would have me wash my hair at night then put curlers in and I had to sleep on them. They were foam but it was still uncomfortable. As I grew older, I tried all kinds of curlers, steam, heat, as well as curling iron but got tired of my hair becoming limp and straight. One coworker said she would do French braids and I told her to go for it but don’t expect miracles. About halfway through, she was frustrated with my hair but finished the braids. An hour later she realized that pieces just kept slipping out and so much that after 2 hours she conceded defeat. She never remarked on my hair again.
C'mon, she's selling wigs! So obvious. 😂 If your scalp gets oily, spray some dry shampoo on your scalp to absorb the oils throughout the day. It adds good volume - even on clean hair. But the cheapest you can find. My favorite was the classic original Pssst! but it's impossible to find now, so Not Your Mother's Clean Freak unscented is good. Once dry & styled, flip your hair/head over upside down, move your hair around so the spray can get to the scalp, flip back up & wait about 5 minutes to let it dry & set, reach your hand under your hair & massage your scalp to distribute the product; it will coat your head & hair at the roots, & will absorb the moisture from oils throughout the day to keep it from flattening out on your head & help maintain volume. Finger comb your hair & use a little mild hairspray.
@@susanrunge7455 Hi Susan! Dry shampoo is a grey tool for fine hair and I use it often. And if that's all you need to get the look you love, I am extremely happy for you! And I'm a little jealous. Because if I just use dry shampoo, my hair will still look extremely flat. Which is why I went into so much detail in the video about how I do a wet set and how much of a difference it makes. Some of us just need more "oomph" to get the look we want. Sometimes that just involves knowledge and technique, other times products can help. (But you know that - you even mentioned the brand of dry shampoo that you like - because it's a great tool that works well for you.) But never once did I talk about wigs. 😂
My 93 year old mom and most before her went to the salon once a week, for a set and dry. It lasted a week and was time to relax and visit with other women from the neighborhood.
That reminds me of some of my older family members! Their weekly trips to the salon, and how they would wrap their hair at night to preserve the style - thank you for bringing up those memories. 💛
It's AMAZING how natural it looks. You're lucky you're able to find a good shade match for your own hair colour. I'm sure it saves you a lot of time styling your hair. No one would ever know you were wearing a topper. It's a shame they don't have hair colours for women who are going grey or are already grey. Hopefully, they'll expand one day. Great video!!
I do feel really lucky. And it is a shame that they don't carry grey - although the company wrote to me after I posted the video to let me know they are working on grey toppers. Hopefully they'll have a selection, since grey is quite multifaceted. But even if they came out with just a white grey topper, at least people with darker grey hair could then have it colored to match their salt and pepper. (Going darker is relatively easy with human hair pieces, but going lighter usually ends badly due to the way the pieces are pre-treated.)
Spot on! They're missing out on a huge market not making these for us silver foxes. But also a note that I found with the topper I started out with. Most of us with thinning hair may not have quite enough hair for those clips to grab onto, and when they do, the pressure placed on those precious hairs could cause them to fall out sooner than they otherwise would have. Just sharing my experience. The topper looks great and very natural on you 🥰
Thanks for sharing that experience! I can see how easily that could happen. Although my hair has started to thin out, I still have enough that I can clip it to a different section every time I insert it (preventing breakage), and it has a health number of hairs to latch onto, so no individual hair is holding too much weight.
i do exactly this method and figured it out on my own. the only additional thing i do is when all my curlers are in i spray each lightly with hairspray for a bit of extra lift and hold. works great!
Thanks for sharing your experience, Helena! It makes me happy to see confirmation that it works for others, too. 💛 The tip with the hairspray is great! May I ask what type of hairspray you use (light hold vs strong hold)?
@@CBP5573 It is… BUT: I've worked with a colorist to dye real-hair extensions and she said that it's usually easy to go darker, but not go to lighter due to the way the pieces are pre-treated. I would always consult with a colorist before making a purchase to make sure the desired color change is possible.
this adds like, three hours to my getting-ready time. This is from the 50s or 60s when girls rolled their hair in curlers -and they had to go to sleep on the curlers because it takes hours for hair to dry. this styling tip is silliness.
It's fascinating how beauty standards can be so relative. While you've mastered making fine hair look fuller, I've always felt insecure about my thick hair and have even been told it's like a horse's mane at a salon! Experiences like ours really highlight the beauty in all hair types. By the way, I think your hair looks gorgeous just as it is! ❤❤ P.s.: Your voice is so gorgeous that I found myself watching a video on tips that are the polar opposite of what I usually look for lol
It really is funny how "the grass is always greener" and we always seem to seek the one thing we don't have. Thank you for taking a moment to leave such a thoughtful comment! I'm so glad you stopped by. ❤
Thank you for highlighting the problems us silver ladies have finding colors for our gray hair. I did not even start thinking about extensions and toppers until my hair started to thin with age- and then I found that there is so little for me.
I'm hoping that if we start talking about it publicly, companies will start to make products tailored to grey hair. Thanks for chiming into the conversation here. It was lovely to hear from you. 💛
Many women are going gray very early in life. I've been completely gray for over a year now, I'm 54. I colored my hair for years to hide my gray and now I'm embracing it. Its gorgeous but I do have fine hair. So this video helped soooo much even to know you use a topper, its genius. Maybe there's another company that does gray toppers. I have always wanted longer hair. Mine is just below the shoulder. My hair grows but never grows so to have a topper would be a game changer. I'm going to try the products you use also because nothing has ever worked well enough for me to be loyal to the product. Thank you!!!! 😊
Thank you! I have travelled the same journey all 5+ decades! Heaps of hair, but very fine texture. I gave up hairdressers, and cut and colour my own- yes, I am lucky to have a talent with my hands. But recieve non-stop have compliments on my hair. UA-cam is a great help to give ideas. Hairdressers, don't have the time to listen, or even want to...not interested in paying hundreds of dollars only to come home and fix it!
Ooooooooo - do you have any tips for how to cut your own hair? Or a UA-camr you could recommend? My favorite stylist is no longer close-by, and I've gotten so many bad haircuts that I'd rather just try doing it myself at this point. Thanks for taking a moment to share your experiences - it was lovely hearing from you! ❤
😮 OHMYGOSH!! I'm 70 and FINALLY have a solution?!! Thank you for this video! Thinking back in all those years when I joked that I was going to shave my head and get a hair tattoo! 😂
This video is a bright light for me with the super fine hair. One suggestion for a future post: please show us, if possible, exactly how you put the topper on and then secure it. I feel like your video may have skipped over some of those vital deets! Thank you so so much!
Thanks for taking a moment to write such a thoughtful comment, Rebecca! I'll take that to heart and try to show more detailed views of how I install the topper in the future. Trying to film the back or side of my head isn't easy - there was a lot of footage I couldn't use because I was out of frame or blurry. 😂 Doing my hair generally takes all my concentration as it is: add filming to that and it becomes a real circus. 😂
I was told many times by hair stylist that I had to "damage" my hair to find a lasting curl. Little did they know how much a little damage would do to my baby fine and thin hair. I so appreciate this! Will be trying it out as soon as I can find myself some curlers.
I’ve been told that, too! But with hair this fine, a little damage feels pretty catastrophic. If you have bobby pins or duck clips you could try pin curls. (That’s when you roll the hair into curls yourself and then pin them in place.) It’s a little trickier to do, (especially because getting the curls to stand up away from the scalp - which is what creates volume -takes some practice) but would allow you to try this method without spending any money.
As a teen in high school, the only time I had long hair, I learned the one way to hold some volume in my hair. I would bend over, brush my hair down and put it in a ponytail on the top of my head. Standing up I used only four large curlers. Divided my hair so I had one curler each, for the front, back and each side. Since they were on top of my head, I then could sleep without pain. In the morning I would have curl and body. If my hair was long today, I’d still be using this method.
@mary-patcrewse9353, Thanks for the tip, maybe I'll try that! I've always had thin, baby fine hair and now that I'm soon-to-be 71 it's even more challenging to have decent-looking hair__especially as more of it becomes silvery grey it just looks all the more thin. 😬 💖🙌😺
50 years ago I did the same thing. I only used one roller and it was an orange juice can, if you can believe it! When I released it in the morning, my hair at the roots felt like it was going to break....painful. Before I left home for school, the body and curl was almost gone. To this day, I have struggled with thin hair. The best day I ever have with it is the day I have it colored. I have given up on length and stick to a short layered cut. I've decided to just accept it and not stress over something that I just can't change. This was a great video.
SO DID I do the ponytail on top to a bun or curlers, BUT MY 67-YEAR-OLD FACE IS LIKING SHORTER HAIR. HEAT ALWAYS STRAIGHTENS MY HAIR. NOW I KNOW THAT THE WET TO DRY IS THE MAIN THING TO DO. Oops, I did not mean to yell.
I can relate! So many so-called professionals don't listen or don't' care enough to listen. Even when you're paying them! Glad you found a stylist with the correct knowledge. - plus all those heating irons harm fine thin hair
There are good apples and bad apples in every profession. I was lucky to find several good apples over the years. And at least now I know enough to tell them that I don't want them to use hot irons on my hair.
A super essential volumizer tip from me to you is *don’t forget the cool shot button* on your blow dryer! Heat is used for drying the hair and the cool shot is used for freezing the hair where you want it! I mostly use it while my head is upside down but I also use it at the end while holding the roots up with my fingers. I would be lost without my cool shot button. ☺️👍🏼 Thanks for a helpful video!!! ♥️
Yes! Never forget the cool shot! My hair dryer doesn't have one, but my mom's does, and I use it when I borrow hers. Thanks for sharing another helpful tip! ♥️
I’d have to read all the comments to know whether anyone else has told u abt this solution. Sorry if uv heard it already. I have ur exact hair and issues. I’m now 75. I discovered Caruso steam rollers approx a million yrs ago and have been using them ever since. I live in hot humid Fl so I don’t have curl much of the time but I do have body always. In what passes for winter here I have curl, as much or as little as I want, depending on roller size. Amazon sells these rollers or at least they did when I bot my last 2 sets. I always have a spare cause they die after a few yrs. I truly believe steam rollers which require less than 5 minutes application and 10-15 before removing r the solution for u too.
Thank you for sharing your tip with the Caruso Steam rollers! Since they use steam, that sounds really promising - the best of both worlds: a wet set without the wait. I found them here, in case anyone wants to check them out: go.shopmy.us/p-10689110 I appreciate that you took the time to share what works for you! I'm really curious about these now.
Great video! I have the same type of curl amd perm resistant fine, thin hair. I tried perms several times, but none held. Each stylist told me that the other just didn’t know what she was doing, and then found out for herself. The last person who permed my hair (about 20 years ago) literally burned my hair OFF (about the first two inches from my neckline). Needless to say, never again. Same with styling… NOTHING gives me volume unless I use strong products, blow dry with head upside down and lacquer it…. but even that only lasts a couple of hours, at best and looks like “helmet head”. You are the only person know with the same level of resistant fine hair. I look forward to trying some of your tricks, amd will also consider a topper! Thank you for making this video!
Thanks for taking a moment to let me know you liked it! I hear you - so many stylists just thought the problem was with everyone else. Really, it was just my hair. The wet-set and topper combo has been the best way to finally have lasting volume without having to use a ton of hairspray. I hope that some of these tricks work for you!
I am so glad I found your video. You reminded me of something. Since I have retired I have been washing and blowdrying my hair in the morning, but I realized I had much more volume when I used to wash it at night and set it in velcro rollers while it was still damp. I would let it finish drying in the rollers while I watched tv or read. It would last for days. I am going back to that method. 😃 Thank you!
A fine, thin haired girl (well closer to your mom's age probably), all my life. You perfectly described my hair problems! I can fix it and for ten minutes, maybe, it's great. Humid outside? It goes in a pony or twist. What you said about wet to dry set I used to do back in the 60s. Mom got a hair dryer so I remember drying my hair upside down and noticed when I over-dryed it a little bit, it would last on the walk to school. At night my sister and I slept with foam rollers. (Those left a nice curl but always left a line. Wish there was a way to use those without getting that hair bend.) Today, though, I still color my hair but it is thinning. I've had some really good hairdressers over the years and the couple tricks that work pretty well: I do the root lift spray, tiny little gel, , blow it out with a brush, then do a light hairspray to the roots, use a hot brush on between med and low til dry. Fine comb small sections, gently curl with the hot brush (it is not a blower brush), put velcro roller to set each section. Spray it with a volume hairspary, get ready for the day, take out the rollers, spray again and say a little prayer. I always have bobby pins just in case. A while back I did pick up a bonnet hairdrayer that attaches to a blow dryer and forgot about it. I want to try the wed to dry again. That was such a nice vid! Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your tips! It sounds like you've got a method that works well. I also have a bonnet that attaches to my hair-dryer and use that if I need my wet set to dry quickly. I find that the combination of the wet-to-dry set and the hot-to-cool set makes it stay even longer. If you're looking for foam rollers that don't have that plastic part that leaves a line (I grew up using those all the time, too!) I found some. They're called Cozy Curlers. They're made by a small, women-owned brand with just foam and an attached hair-net attached. They're very soft to sleep on and don't leave the harsh line. They were in my styling tool video, if you want to see what they look like (the link brings you right to that spot in the video): ua-cam.com/video/t8DKLux6TkU/v-deo.htmlsi=3F3_EVSeT7gaRmXb&t=942
Love this video! I too have shoulder length blonde baby fine hair. At 65 I had to start using Rogaine. To style it I have always relied on hot rollers. After shampoo I add gel and blow-dry. I use a water to mist each section before rolling it under. After releasing, I twirl it up at the ends to make a wonderful 60's style flip.
Thank you for taking a moment to share your experiences, Beth! I love a good 60's style flip - it sounds like you've mastered it for your hair. That's great! It was lovely hearing from you. 💛
I have fine hair too that won't hold a curl with a curling iron. Your explanation sounds like it fits me. When I use a scrunchie a night on damp hair it holds well! Thanks! That topper looks great on you!
I'm glad to pass on the information - I was so happy when I finally figured it out. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kim! It was lovely hearing from you.
Thanks for this video__us thin, baby-fine-haired women need all the help we can get. 😋 I just hate the idea of using 'any' product just to have a decent look to go out cuz it ALL weighs my hair down. 😬😢 💖🙌😺
I agree Debra - baby-fine hair is challenging and it's taking me years to figure it all out. You can try the wet set without any product - that works for me, too (although my body doesn't not hold as long without product). A root lift or texture spray ONLY at the roots might give you the foundation you need for some extra volume without weighing your hair down. Or if you don't want to do that, you might want to try a texturizing shampoo - I like ones that have the ingredient rassoul clay in them. My favorite to-date is the Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumizing Paste. The name sounds scary (paste???? AHHH!!! That just SOUNDS heavy.) And it looks like mud in the jar, but it foams up really nicely and doesn't leave any residue in my hair: go.shopmy.us/p-9686695 I like it better than some of the other options I've tried because it doesn't seem to make my hair as staticy. The texture does take some getting used to, though.
Thank you, Susan! I was shocked at how easy it was to wear. The company has since replied to let me know they will be making toppers for silver-haired people. Perhaps they will include white in their next release!
Excellent video! Tons of really helpful & valuable information without all the annoying non-relevant story telling. Lastly I really appreciate your perfect annunciation😉
My hair is fine but thick, esp in the back. I've also discovered the wet to dry set is the only one that works, and I also blow dry and straighten with a brush. I seal with a moisture proofing silicone agent so humidity doesn't sabotage my work. The front hair is very straight but the back has a wrinkly wave now that I'm gray, and I need to pull that straight. It gives me body back there but can also look ugly if the wind blows and reveals crinkles under the surface, so I round brush it in sections. My short cut for you is this, the set. For real bounce on a party night I dry to 85%, and use hot rollers. I style them in the same rolling pattern as you, and bought 2 sets to have enough large ones for my longer hair. I put the roller mid-section, not at the ends, wrapping the hair in a slightly angular way till the ends are on the curler, then trap them as I roll to the head and fasten. I leave these in till completely dry and cool. Using mousse as I curl requires the hair to be 90-95% dry, but helps boost lasting power. If I'm not doing an event but preparing for regular daily wear, i have an even quicker method. I silicon the wet hair to detangle, avoiding the heaviness of conditioner completely and dry to nearly there, use a scrunchy to make a ponytail and curl the ends into a loop and fasten. You could make two or more ponytails with your shorter hair, and mousse the curl. The tricks here are drying high to add volume and curling the ends into a loop with a clip to avoid any crimping or marks on the hair. It can look like a bun and be acceptable in public. When it comes down I use a strong hold gel on the roots on top of my head, low blowing lift into that area with a finger brush (it has soft plastic spikes, no bristles, and is not round). I use the brush to grab hair at the root and blow dry with low setting so I don't wipe out my curl elsewhere with heat and wind. Great volume, shape and hold. I make my style last a week by flipping back into the pony bun for sleeping, dampening the ends before forming my flipped under finger curl. It helps prevent oiliness from spreading through the hair when I sleep. I'm not licensed, but I sent myself to college doing hair, and have always done my own. Thanks for listening!
I too have fine thin hair….yup it dies after an hour or so….I’m 61…..just bought my first topper last week….gotta get my hair done and have them cut the topper to blend in with my own….can’t wait!
Thanks for this helpful lesson on styling fine hair. I have tried a lot of products and different styling tools that didn't result in long lasting volume. And my hair is curly so frizz is a problem. So I have had to go back to using rollers as you do. They make my hair smooth and give the right volume. I was glad to see someone else use them and validate using them in this day and age. 😅
Yes yes yes about the grey hair. I have fine long gray hair and I have been looking for extensions this whole year. No luck yet!!! We should invent one!
I recently started doing this: I use a nylon brush because it causes static and causes the hairs to separate and I brush often which gives my hair shine and volume. I always brush over my head and at night before I go to sleep, I brush it out, spray a bit of conditioner on the ends and twist it up and put clips to hold it in place. In the morning when I brush it out, it has amazing volume and body.
Spraying some conditioner on the ends sounds like it would keep them nice and moisturized - your end result sounds great! Thanks for sharing it with us!
🌿✅ just found your channel & subscribed... another fact is that "alcohol" in hair products will weaken and break fine hair... so when I've been reading labels and avoided it, my hair got healthier, shinier, and grew longer❣️
I am 58 yo, always had very fine hair. It actually started falling out two years ago. My Kinesiologist suggested I take blackseed oil everyday 1 tspn in orange juice. My hair is now three times thicker. I rarely miss a day taking blackseed oil. My daughter was shocked how much thicker my hair is now, I even have regrowth on the sides of my fringe/bangs hairline. I don’t need volumizer products anymore more but I do spray a detangler in. O&M know knott. Also I changed shampoo and conditioner to EverEscents the moisturizer cinnamon & patchouli one works best for me. I color my own hair now, it takes 10 mins onto dry hair before I shower. It called Nova Hair, I use it every 4-6 weeks…brilliant products! I never thought I’d have thicker hair, well it’s not thicker just way more hair now. Super happy with the changes I made. Btw I shampoo and conditioner my hair daily, it never feels like it builds up. I hope my journey helps someone.
Thank you! Isn't it funny how those of us with straight hair want to make it curly, and those of us with curly hair like to straighten it? The grass is always greener, I guess. 😉
Hello from CA & thanks 4 Univigs toppers. I have been looking but so overwhelmed with choices of hair pieces. You could color the gray topper yourself or pay a hairstylist to do it. Love the video!
Thanks for taking a moment to let me know you liked the video, Liz! It was lovely to hear from you! Coloring real-hair extensions and toppers can be a tricky business since they are already color-treated. I took some of my real-hair extensions to a great colorist and we had a VERY difficult time trying to lighten them. (Apparently going darker is easier when it comes to pre-treated hair extensions.) So for now, the search continues.
Brilliant tips, cheers! I’m an 80’s hair gal all the way!! 🤣💚 I have to hold myself back on doing a Mohawk some days at 55!! Our youngest (24f) and I will do our mohawks, go out and have a blast! My husband just shakes his head and laughs.
Yes! I am graying and love longer hair. Fortunately, my once poker straight hair is getting gray curly hair so I now look like I paid for a body wave which is helping with the volume without the hair loss that would happen when I paid for the chemical curls.🙌 Great video!
That's so interesting that the wave pattern of your hair changed with the color! Maybe I'll have that to look forward to. Thanks for taking a moment to share your experience, Sonja!
Great Video Love! Thank you for Sharing. I only wash my hair once a week and I am a personal trainer :) What I do is keep my hair in a high ponytail with ponytail holder that doesn't dent my hair. I am making a video as well and discovered this great tool from conair that gives me great volume. I am 58 and never learned how to style hair so I just let it air dry with combs in my hair. I relate to your advice. In the 80’s it was easy to have plenty of volume that lasted because we’d perm our hair which would hold the curls (easily achieved with heated rollers). I still mostly (not fully) dry my hair upsidedown with a dryer, then comb through some styling mousse and style with hairdryer and round brush, or heated rollers (no perm). If need to wear a hat for a walk, I use bobby pins for pincurls under my hat to refresh or keep the style instead of squashing it.
That tip with creating pin curls to wear under a hat to maintain the style is a great one, Michele - I also have a "hat hairstyle" that I wear to keep the volume intact once the hat comes back off. Thank you for sharing it!
You are absolutely right about the lack of toppers for ladies with greying hair. There are so many shades of grey and, if you get it wrong you can look awful. I have yet to find one that doesn’t clash with my own shade(s). I wear my fine, slightly wavy hair quite long, below shoulders, and it is only white on the thinning crown. The rest is still brown but fades to a cool platinum blonde as it lengthens. I actually love its natural colour and I’m loath resort to colouring it again just to wear a hairpiece that looks discreet. My last touch up was in 2008! I’m also loath to wear it short because, then I would just be a nearly bald little old lady. So I continue to reject all hairpieces except for some brightly coloured braids that I add to my ponytail before making a chignon. My own version of radical. LOL Still, I dream of finding a topper that looks as natural as yours. It looks fabulous on you. As though you grew it yourself!
Amen! I feel like grey is so hard to get right, especially because there are so many shades of it. I purchased some grey extensions for my aunt once (a fake bun for up-dos) and it just wasn't the right shade. We can make it work if we blend it really well with her own hair, but it takes a good deal of effort. This topper really was a good match for me - but I wonder what will happen as I age. I usually get my hair done once or twice a year max, so I won't be trying to cover any greys. Maybe by then AI can make a custom color topper for me. 😂 Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences! It was lovely to hear from you.
You're a wealth of positivity and great information, as well as, stunningly beautiful. My full of body, baby fine hair has been on my head for all of my 63 years, and it doesn't like heat from blow drying or styling wands, it just becomes a static electricity mess. My hair, it's so fine it was impossible to go even a day without shampooing, or it'd be just limp and lifeless. Last year, prior to shampooing, I started spraying my dry... "ready to shampoo" hair with pure Olive oil... in a mist bottle, from my waist long ends to the top of my shoulder, I then wait an hour or two and then shampoo only my scalp and the nape of my neck. The shampoo rinses out and coats the length of my hair on the rinse out. Then I condition with a store body building conditioner, usually Pantene. It turns out that the Olive oil has changed my porosity, and my naturally body filled, extra fine, baby hair is happy at long last. It appears thicker and takes so much longer to air dry and dries full of body and light curls, which is no bother to me at all. I am allergic to isopropyl alcohol, so I don't use products in my hair. Not only does it look better, I don't shampoo it but every fourth or fifth day now, because it looks so awesome. I have applied baby powder to my hands and coated it through my roots for additional body. Who knew that Olive Oil would be so nice for baby fine, thin hair? I am certainly not gatekeeping the cure for baby fine hair from anyone. On the third and fourth day after shampooing, I swear it looks like I stepped out of a salon, partly because of the high humidity in South Carolina. My natural oils build up, and really truly amp up the volume of my long hair. People are actually asking me... who does your hair? I am actually able to pull it up in a ponytail, I was never able to do that in my entire life, it was too fine. If you have thin baby fine hair, I urge you to apply Olive Oil... to everything except your roots, even if you have to rub it in with your hands. ❤ Didn't mean to write a book. 😮
Wow Sherri - it seems like you found the magic solution for your hair! So simple with such beautiful results. Thank you for sharing it with us. When I'm home, I often put oil in my hair a few hours before washing, like you. I feel like it helps my hair deal with the hard water here. But I've never tried olive oil. I'll have to give that a try. And you're the second person to recommend baby powder. Something else I've never tried. Thanks for adding to all these wonderful comments! It was lovely to hear from you.
Ever heard about volume powder? I used to buy the Super Dust Volume and texture powder by L'Oréal. Then, however, I found out that the professional hair products supplier round the corner has her own brand which is much cheaper 😃 It does the trick as well as the more expensive powder. Use with caution and sprinkle it only thinly, since it can matt your hair. I myself like to gently rub it onto the roots and then brush out my hair so it gets evenly distributed. Makes a real difference!
This is a great tip! I have a volume powder in my travel bag. This has inspired me to break it out again. But you're right: thin application is key. I think I originally stopped using it because it was so easy to over-do, especially when I'm frazzled and in a hurry.
Awesome video. Thank you so much. I don’t use the Velcro rollers because they tend to break my hair. I use smooth plastic rollers with Bobby pins 😜(telling my age)
I LOVE my topper! I have been wearing them for years… I use a synthetic hair topper because it’s so much cheaper than real hair although I did buy a wig from uniwig when my daughter was going thru chemotherapy and she loved it
You are way ahead of me then - I'm new to the miracle of toppers. I can also understand why you'd choose synthetic hair - the majority of my extensions are synthetic precisely because of the lower price point. I'm so glad to hear that your daughter loved the wig. I hope she's feeling better now - chemo is so hard.
Thank you! This is the only technique that works for me as well, and it’s worked for decades. 😂 I’ve just enlarged the roller size to modernize and soften my look.
That sounds intriguing! Does it work for straight hair, too? I’ve heard that it’s good for wavy and curly hair, but never even thought to try it on my straight hair.
Instead of mousse, I find a loose setting powder gives my hair far superior volume and texture. I sometimes use my natural cowlick and can create volume with the powder, a bit of back combing and the lift is incredible for a fine hair lady like me! My hair has grip, vs the style falling or sliding out of place. These products don’t seem to be popular but it’s definitely worth it. I currently purchase Kristiness which is relatively inexpensive but the applicator isn’t great. I used Osso Dust It mattifying volume powder, which is in a shaker which I end up putting on the tips of my finger to better control the amount of powder. A sales rep sold me Odele dry shampoo as a styling powder substitute. It’s ok. It’s a bit too lightweight but the applicator is perfect! So when I use it up, I will put the Kristeness product into the empty bottle. This last time Target nor Ulta had Kristiness so I ordered on line. The things we women do to look good. 😊
Thanks for sharing such specific tips! Now I'm quite curious about all those powders. I know how well dry shampoo has worked for me in the past, and these seem like they could be an extension of that. I know it, huh? So much time and effort. 😅
It would be great if the companies that make extensions did hear this and start offering longer styles in grays, silvers, whites. For those of us with fine hair, coloring our hair is not a good option because it can lead to even thinner hair and fallout!
It's so true! Luckily Uniwigs wrote to me after watching the video to let me know they would develop a grey topper. Hopefully it will come sooner rather than later.
I’m so glad you put this video out. I have fine hair, too. No hair loss but just want volume. I have looks at their toppers and nothing is for me for color. I need a lighter blonde/silver color and that would be perfect for me. I also want the Courtney, too. I guess I’ll keep waiting. I’m older too and need the blonde/silver color. Maybe they will eventually hear us older folks eventually who still have longer hair.
It's so hard to find a good grey match. Luckily the company got in touch with me after seeing the video to let me know that they are developing grey toppers. If I find any solutions in the meantime, I'll be sure to let people know.
@@Tess-h9d thanks for that information! 💛 Do you know if she was able to lighten them? My experience with coloring hair pieces is that they are easy to color, but hard to lighten. My colorist says it’s due to the way they are pre-treated.
@@TheStyleStumbler oh yes, she didn't lighten it; from memory it was a blonde topper that was coloured with two shades of grey. I guess this would work for "pepper and salt" hair, not for silver white.
Love these tips! I actually don't have fine hair, but it won't hold heat well either. I've used the strongest styling paste with a mouse...and it helps to keep Some curl for about half a day. I think woman with my hair type can all benefit by your tips. Style while wet. I used to think my hair was straight. Now if I let it dry damp in a high chignon, I have huge s-waves that lasts all day, and at least has volume if I brush it out. It used to feel oily even when I just washed it. It is both slick And frizzy/tangly. Putting it up to finish drying helped smooth any frizz and keep it from tangling. I also learned ( perhaps not a tip for fine hair) to use dry shampoo as a stylant when I Just washed/Clean but dry. Not on the scalp, clogging pores, but around areas On the hair that would feel oily in hours after washing. Front, around ears. Brush in. This keeps it feeling clean , from tangling, and ultimately volumized. The only products I use regularly now are low sulfate shampoo every three days, strong mousse as it air-dries, dry shampoo as stylant when just clean/dry, and hair spray. I actually like the texture hair spray adds, and it can be volumizing if sprayed on and let dry Upside-down. But it might also add weight to fine hair. We each have such individual challenges and potential! I love the topper on you and will pass on your experience to friends. Thanks!
That's so true - we all have such individual challenges and so much potential. Thanks so much for sharing your tips, and in such detail! Despite our differences, there's a good deal of overlap in what works for us. Dry shampoo has been somewhat of a miracle product for me, as well. It was lovely to hear your perspective - I'm glad you took the time to write!
I have the same hair but it's long. I discovered the heatless curls device from another video and I've basically been using it every day since. I start with hair 90% dry then wrap in the curler (about 2 mins worth of work) and sleep in it. Boom amazing long last curls the next day... and even into the next day!
I stumbled on your video and find it very refreshing. But, as a mid length, gray haired lady, I, too, wish it came in a color for me. I have the dreaded huge cowlick on the back of my hair now that my hair has gotten so thin. Thanks for the info tho . At least I now know what to look for in the future when some company finally decides to get on the ball and make it in gray.
Another great tip for you: I’ve been using Velcro rollers for years - people have always asked me who does my hair. The answer is - me! Here’s the tip: use a hood dryer to evenly and thoroughly dry your wet/damp hair after the Velcro rollers are in place. That REALLY locks in the body and curl. Waiting for rolled, damp hair to dry “on its own” is an exercise in futility! Using a hand dryer to try to finish styling your damp, rolled hair is also a waste of time and effort. My stylist (probably like yours) really only colors my hair…she pulls it down while drying it with a brush which mostly knocks all the volume from my too soft hair!!! The lesson here - don’t assume today’s “stylists” know how to make your hair look it’s beautiful best. Most don’t; the goal is usually to get you out the door and on to the next client!!
YES!!!! I didn't want to overload the video and make things too complicated, but when I have more time, this is definitely something that I do (air drying gives me the flexibility to get stuff done. Sitting under my hub takes an extra 20 minutes that I don't always have. Air drying my hair might take four hours, but I can run all over town in the meantime). And you are so right - trying to finish styling damp rolled hair with a hand dryer just makes things messy and the rollers end up getting stuck everywhere. My current stylist does an excellent job with cut and color. But you're right: most stylists either don't have the time or don't know how to really give fine hair a lot of lasting body. My mistake was assuming that the stylists hired by the production companies would know their stuff. Turns out: that is no guarantee. Thanks for taking the time to leave such an awesome tip, Lori! Fine-haired people, unite! 💪
Another tip - don’t use rollers that are too big or oversized. If your roller sets still don’t work well, try smaller diameter rollers all over, or just in places that tend to go limp or straight.
@@LSS495 Another excellent piece of advice. Changing the size can make a huge difference. I don't use the largest size in my set for precisely this reason. The second largest ones are the widest ones that work for me.
I get a perm and wear a curly style for a month or so, but as it grows and drops I can do different styles. Like your content and have thought about extensions and a hair topper.
This is a great video. Very helpful for me with baby fine and thin hair! However, I don't think I'll use a hair topper because I find that they are very difficult to match my bio hair and to put on. Thank you for the useful tips.
Thank you for taking a moment to let me know you thought it was helpful. I completely understand how hard it can be to find a topper that matches - I have been looking for a good match for several friends and family, and it hasn't been easy.
This is a vid I’ve been looking for because I’ve been wondering about toppers. I and my cousin have the same issue with a weird cowlick in the back of our heads. It’s exactly same and we’ve been trying to find solutions. It has become more difficult to deal with as we get older. I think it’s worth a try. A couple of points: as these toppers are made with natural hair I would assume it can be colored. I was a natural redhead ….till I got old😅…so now my hair is artificially colored. I’m going to ask my hair stylist if that’s possible and will post here what I find out. Thanks for this very well-done presentation. I’m going to subscribe to your channel for sure!
Thanks so much for taking a moment to share your experience! It's wonderful to see everyone share their challenges and hopefully find some collective answers. Another commenter suggested checking out @Milanowigs. I don't have any experience with them, so I don't know how they would work, but it looks like they offer customizable options. It's true - because the toppers are natural hair, they can be colored. In my experience, hair pieces can be darkened, but not lightened. My colorist said it's due to the way they are pre-treated. We've been looking for one that's light enough to create the right shade. It was lovely hearing from you! I appreciate that you took a moment to say hello.
Hi, I have been using dry shampoo for my volume and body for years and it's the best thing I've found for my hair and it works great!! Even after just washing my hair I go ahead and blow dry it completely dry then spray my roots in the area's where I want to add volume, wait a minute or so until it's completely dry then just bend over run my fingers thru my hair then style it like I want and that's it!! Just follow the directions on the can. I use Dove dry shampoo most of the time on my hair but I've used a few other dry shampoo's and they all seem to work just as well. Give it a try and see if it works as good for you as it does me....Good Luck!! 😃
I’m not sure if the “hair topper” covers your whole scalp, but a dear old friend of mine used to wear a wig to hide her thin hair and she ended up losing bunches of hair with near bald patches appearing all over because the scalp wasn’t able to breathe. She then only wore it for short periods when she had to go out.. her hair growth was restored when she stopped using the wig continuously.
That's an excellent point. Scalp health is key, and letting the skin on our head breathe contributes to healthy hair. Although I have worn this topper all day, I don't tend to wear it on consecutive days. And if I do, it's usually only for a few hours at a time each day. I also try to attach it in different positions (slightly further forward or further back) each time I wear it. The clips seem gentle, but with fine, fragile hair, I try spread out any wear and tear (and tension) from any hair pieces I might wear.
This is an excellent video. Thank you so much. I'm certain I have the problem with heat styling the way you described so I quit working with the curling iron years ago. I have fine hair but it's wavy and frizzy. It's also extremely oily. What I've been doing that works is to grow it long. It lands below my bra, blunt cut. The weight of the hair pulls it more straight. I use leaving conditioner with a frizz Ease type of syrup on damp hair. Then I use a very lightweight glycerine based hair gel. Together they smoothed down the frizz. To get volume at the roots I use dry shampoo. If I want to accentuate the waves I can loosely braid or French braid it (90% dry). If I want to curl the ends under I have to use super high heat which is not good for the hair but it works. If I want the waves to last all day I have to hear spray it. I hope that helps someone
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your hair tips - especially because you have a different type of fine hair that also struggles with heat styling. (Your hair is lovely, by the way.) And I think we should all start calling hair serum syrup. It makes it styling sound fun and delicious. ❤
@TheStyleStumbler You're welcome and thank you! I would love to try your techniques if my hair were shorter. My husband really enjoys long hair and my girls have long hair also, so I'm not ready to chop it yet. You have such a beautiful voice by the way. My youngest daughter is 13 and in theater, dance and voice lessons. She is a soprano one with a whistle range that we are recently learning about. She's in a huge church choir with adults of 80 people. And we are so surprised that they chose her to sing the highest parts, but it makes sense since she hits those notes easily. It's such a joy to see someone like you making a career out of what you were born to do.
I am 74 and I love your tips also I worked as a singer in Japan where I live My hair is thin and gray , colored lately but it ruins my hair I also used curlers too since 17 years old ! Thank you ❤
Thanks for taking a moment to share your experience with us! Curlers and music: accompanying me since I was a kid, too. ❤ It was lovely to hear from you.
I, like most of these other comments, REALLY love your demeanor and how you talk to us. You seem like a VERY lovely person and have kind “vibes”. Thank you for these great tips. If you do another video using the uniting, I would love to see how you actually put it on. That would really help. Also…..is it very warm? Does your head get hot? Thank you again for sharing this info with us!
Thank you for taking a moment to leave such a kind comment, Barb! I will try to film another video about installing the topper, since several people have asked. As for it being warm: it's a lot cooler than some of the wigs I wear, but I'm sure it holds in some heat. I'm pretty used to wearing hair pieces under hot lights, so I'm not all that sensitive to it. But I am sure that people who run hot or live in hot regions might think these are too hot to wear regularly. Great question!
I call my hair angel hair or baby hair. Learned a long time ago to never ever ride in a convertible or on a motorcycle due to the resulting wind knots which were painful to remove. Great vid. I'm not sure I would go to all that trouble but I might do the velcro rollers for a special occasion. I am the same way with regard to hair spray as I can't stand the way it makes my hair feel. The good news is that once you get older you may find your scalp produces less oil and you can get away with less frequent washing.
I like that you call it "angel hair" - fine hair certainly feels light enough to fly away. I can see how "the whole shebang" would be too much for a lot of people. But like you mentioned, it's nice to have in the toolbox for special occasions. I'm hoping that my oily scalp will calm down with age. Thanks for giving me some hope! And thanks for taking a moment to share your experiences. It was lovely to hear from you. 💛
Thank you for the explanation of why fine hair (at least mine and yours) does not hold a hot curl. I will try the Pureology leave-in conditioner because I've liked their shampoo for thin, fine hair. I have tried cheap hair toppers, but they are too bulky and plastic looking ` might be time to invest in a human hair topper for special occasions. Thanks a million times over, this has been the most informative hair video to date!
Thanks for taking a moment to share your experience, Louise! If you still have the cheap hair toppers, you **might** be able to salvage them. When I first started wearing extensions I also only used the cheap synthetic type. I found that spraying them with dry shampoo or using the tiniest bit of matte styling wax often took down the shine. And if those hairpieces were too bulky, I would strategically pluck some of the hairs out. It might be worth a try. There are also nicer synthetic toppers on the market that may work better and have a lower price point. I have some mid-range extensions that have worked really well for me. This topper was my first piece with real human hair and I have to say I think it might have spoiled me for anything else, because it's sooooooo nice.
Uniwigs did contact me after seeing this video to let me know they're working on a grey topper. Now we all have to wonder if it's just one, what shade of grey they will pick. Another commenter mentioned Milano wigs. They look pricey, but they have customizable grey options.
I appreciate your helpful hints. Thanks! Not sure that I'd go through your whole routine because my back would be screaming in pain at me, and I'm probably twice your age, but I'll try what I can. Every little bit helps with fine hair volume.
Thanks for taking a moment to say hello! It's true that every little bit helps. But having great hair and not being able to go out and show it off because of back pain doesn't help either. 😉 If you're looking for a simpler routine, perhaps you could just do the very crown of your head in the rollers, let the rest hang down and air dry to 90% and then put the remaining hair in rollers. That might break up the routine enough to make it easier on your back. Or you might want to try velvet curling rods for the bottom, since you'd only need a couple, depending on how much hair you have. (That's one solution I often use for overnight sets.) I use the Overnight Blowout rods ( go.shopmy.us/p-6661725 ) , but there's also more affordable alternatives like this: amzn.to/3YYS3Pk
Yes. Wet styling works best and can last longer if done with certain products and methods. I live in a humid environment. So, don't do it often. I use nontoxic products. I used to roll my grandmother's hair on Saturdays. 😊
Love your honesty. And your video. Maybe you might need to buy one of those spaceage cap were you attached your hairdryer to the hose attached to the cap. (A home version of the 60’s / 70’s hairdryer at the salons) to set the curls with curlers on your hair more quicker.
Thanks for taking a moment to let me know you enjoyed it! That's a great suggestion - I actually have one of those caps! It works well, but I only use it when I really need the style to set quickly. Because I find that just putting it in rollers takes 10 minutes max. (now that I'm so used to it). But if I use the hub, I usually have to sit there for an additional 20-30 minutes while my hair dries. Yes, the hub cuts the total drying time WAY down, but I often do my hair before a busy day and don't have time to just sit under the hub for that long.
There is q product from Kenra that you put on your hair near the scalp. You take small sections & pinch it onto the base. It dries quickly & gives you some volume.. dry shampoo is also very useful.
Looks Great! On you. I have thin hair too it sucks but at least I'm not bald but, if I ever become bald I will use a wig 😅 real hair wigs are beautiful the ones with some bangs look natural like it's your own hair I do want to actually purchase one for the winter season and use when it's not raining 😄 or snowing. Our winters aren't bad in NM. Thanks for sharing of your time-good to know what gives volume to our hair I like the roller-idea is something I'll try.
Thanks for taking a moment to share your experience. Yes, thin hair can be a challenge. If I look at my family history, it looks like wigs will be in my future at some point. Maybe it's because I'm a performer, but I've always enjoyed wigs. They feel transformative. So I don't think the transition will be all that difficult for me. Like you said - real hair wigs (and even the right synthetic ones) can look beautiful and let us easily switch up our hairstyles.
😊for gray toppers, the temu site has them in different longer lengths. I saw a 14 inch ash gray synthetic. There were other long lengths in various shades of gray. With that site, if you see something, buy it quickly or it may sell out sitting in your cart. Returns are allowed. Read information about returns first.
Thanks for the suggestion, Judy! The market isn't offering too many options right now, so I'm glad you found one you're happy with. I tend to avoid TEMU since they often steal small artists' designs and sell them for a fraction of the price. As a independent artist myself, that rubs me the wrong way. But if that's one of the only places selling grey toppers, I can understand why people might want to shop there. I'm looking into some other solutions now. Hopefully I can share some good grey ones soon!
this is sooo helpful!! I have very fine and thin hair (but a lot of it). Although my hair holds a curl better than some, it has NO volume. I will definitely be trying this method. Also, the topper looks so natural on you!!
It really is shocking how many hair stylists haven't learned this. It seems like it would be one of the basics. I'm lucky that I found a stylist who is constantly learning and passing on her knowledge to her clients.
Uniwigs gave me a 15% discount code: TSS15 to use here: go.shopmy.us/p-9303781.
(If you check out their UA-cam channel, you'll see what I mean.)
I hope that helps! ❤

@d.g2147 - YES ! Good video. My hair is even finer than this woman’s. You can see through it ! Lol. My hair gets oily by late afternoon, no matter what. Curlers also hold longer for me than a curling iron.
Someone who really understands me.
@@TheStyleStumbleramen!! I've been dealing with the same issues my whole life!!
@@guljasb I feel your pain! It has taken a lot of trial and error to get here, and I'm STILL constantly experimenting.
Hi Arlene, I’ve tried the large barrel one step but it didn’t work so well for me. Which one do you use? They have a paddle brush one now
Does the volume last? I do velcro rollers almost every morning and don't want to cut my graying hair short again.
Thank you for taking the time to give me such a kind compliment, Ann. I really appreciate it.
Would love to hear your singing too.
Ooooooo - thank you for taking a moment to share that tip! Dry shampoo is my favorite, and I've long thought about making my own - especially since I started using "poof" bottles instead of sprays. But now I think I'll try the cornstarch baby powder you recommend (once my current stash runs out).

EAU. MAH. GAWDDD!!! More than six decades fighting this hair, and you FINALLY clue me in that heat isn't the answer! I was born too late for wet-to-dry sets being common, so I never figured it out. MIND BLOWN!
That's the way I felt when the 56th stylist finally figured out what the problem was! The clouds parted and the angels sang. 😂
So obvious. 😂
If your scalp gets oily, spray some dry shampoo on your scalp to absorb the oils throughout the day.
(But you know that - you even mentioned the brand of dry shampoo that you like - because it's a great tool that works well for you.)
But never once did I talk about wigs.
It was a ritual for sure. People had more voluminous amounts of hair back then IMHO
@@cmc6295Had more disposable income for weekly salon visits also.
Godiva’s Secret Wigs carries gray toppers that look natural. I have one & love it!
@@dl7425 Thank you! I will take a look.
YES! Gray hair in lengths! Uniwigs, please listen.
Great video!
Luckily they wrote to me to say they're working on a grey topper now!
@TheStyleStumbler excellent ❤
Is it possible to dye toppers to match your own hair color?
I totally forgot about the wet to dry. Dry 70% wouldn't take as long.
I have made those VERY SAME JOKES!!!! 😂😂😂 It's nice to find other people who can relate.
Me tooo!!! 😂
Why isn't this video more popular?? You're a genius and I love you. Thank you thank you thank you! 🙏❤🎉
You’re so kind - thank you! ❤️
@TheStyleStumbler I really like that idea. Thank you so much!
What a great tip! I'll have to remember this if my hair ever gets longer. Thanks for taking the time to share it!
@mary-patcrewse9353,
Thanks for the tip, maybe I'll try that!
I've always had thin, baby fine hair and now that I'm soon-to-be 71 it's even more challenging to have decent-looking hair__especially as more of it becomes silvery grey it just looks all the more thin. 😬
💖🙌😺
I did the same thing years ago when I was young.
☺️👍🏼
Thanks for a helpful video!!! ♥️
Yes! Never forget the cool shot! My hair dryer doesn't have one, but my mom's does, and I use it when I borrow hers. Thanks for sharing another helpful tip! ♥️
Apply volumizer ar the root.
I found them here, in case anyone wants to check them out: go.shopmy.us/p-10689110
I appreciate that you took the time to share what works for you!
Wish there was a way to use those without getting that hair bend.)
Today, though, I still color my hair but it is thinning.
They were in my styling tool video, if you want to see what they look like (the link brings you right to that spot in the video):

Wow! Your topper looks totally natural. I appreciate all the knowledge you share. My hair is super fine! I’m so happy I found your channel! Thank you🌸
Thanks for taking a moment to say hello, Charlotte! It was lovely to hear from you.
Thanks for this video__us thin, baby-fine-haired women need all the help we can get. 😋
I just hate the idea of using 'any' product just to have a decent look to go out cuz it ALL weighs my hair down. 😬😢
💖🙌😺
No way! Never would have known you were wearing a topper! I have white hair and would love one, but…. You look terrific. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Susan! I was shocked at how easy it was to wear. The company has since replied to let me know they will be making toppers for silver-haired people. Perhaps they will include white in their next release!
Just have the topper bleached and toned to white if it is human hair.
Excellent video! Tons of really helpful & valuable information without all the annoying non-relevant story telling. Lastly I really appreciate your perfect annunciation😉
Thanks for taking a moment to let me know that you liked it! It was lovely to hear from you. 💛
Wow - thank you for such great and detailed tips, Beth! I'll have to try your method!
I too have fine thin hair….yup it dies after an hour or so….I’m 61…..just bought my first topper last week….gotta get my hair done and have them cut the topper to blend in with my own….can’t wait!
I'm so happy for you! Once a hair piece is properly cut to blend perfectly they become so much fun to wear.
Sometimes simple is better. I like my low-tech solution - it works even if the power goes out. 😂 Hooray for the old school crowd!
I’m a gray haired 70 year old and I would never have the old lady haircut. My cut is about the same length as yours.
Thanks for taking a moment to pipe in! We have a LOT of voices saying that longer grey hair is the trend.
I'm a gray haired 72 year old looking for some volume for my long fine hair!!❤
Yes yes yes about the grey hair. I have fine long gray hair and I have been looking for extensions this whole year. No luck yet!!! We should invent one!
We really should. There seems to be such a need!
Thanks for taking a moment to say hello and share what's worked for you, Carrie! I'm glad you've found a way to get healthier, shinier, longer hair!
That sounds great! Thank you so much for sharing what worked for you! Now I'm going to have to find some blackseed oil. ;-)
I love your natural flat hair! Believe it or not! I have fine hair but curly so I like yours;)))))
Thank you! Isn't it funny how those of us with straight hair want to make it curly, and those of us with curly hair like to straighten it? The grass is always greener, I guess. 😉
Enjoyed the video completely. I can relate fully. Will be trying curlers and maybe a topper. I'm 65 and wish I would have known this years ago.
It sounds like you have so much fun with your hair! I wish I could see those mohawks!
Us fine hair girls need to stay together :) New subscriber, glad I found you. I need to check out your music because you have a very soothing calming voice. sending Loving Kindness from Canada's Capital.

On a side note, your video on healing arthritis in the gut is great. I wish more people knew about the relationship between joint pain and gut health.

great tips! thank you for this video. all of us who were born with baby fine hair truly appreciate any help we can get!
Thank you for taking a moment to let me know you enjoyed it! It's so true: those of us with baby-fine hair really do enjoy a good tip!
@ thanks 😊
I appreciate your lovely vocal tone quality. It’s nice to listen to. ❤
Thank you for taking a moment to leave such a kind comment! ❤
@@TheStyleStumbler Of course! I love the tips for fine hair too! ☺️
Agreed. This gal is very good at speaking!
Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences! It was lovely to hear from you.
I love my uniwig. Voila volume. I have aura, a silk top. Agree with curl method for fine hair. Well presented!
I'm so glad you found something that worked for you! Thanks for taking a moment to say hello. 💛
Didn't mean to write a book.
That makes somuch sense! I spent a lot on a hot iron and…nothing that lasts beyond the bathroom where I used it! Thank you!
I'm glad I could help clarify the mystery of the hot iron. :-)
Ever heard about volume powder?
I used to buy the Super Dust Volume and texture powder by L'Oréal.
Then, however, I found out that the professional hair products supplier round the corner has her own brand which is much cheaper 😃
It does the trick as well as the more expensive powder.
That's a great tip for people with more brittle hair.
Thanks for letting me know that you liked the video - it was lovely to hear from you.
Velcro rollers on fine hair is painful.
I’ve just enlarged the roller size to modernize and soften my look.
I'm glad to meet a fellow wet-setter. And that's a great point: the style can be changed simply by changing the size roller.
Flaxseed Gel is great for adding wolume. Easy to make! 😊
Very useful! Thank you!! I have the exact same hair type. Your styling looks lovely and you prove that natural fine hair can be really pretty.
Thank you, Katy!
Thank you for this great video. My hairdresser has successfully dyed human hair toppers and extensions to match her clients' hair - even grey hair.
I switched to rollers a year ago - great result. I‘ve switched to „magnetic“ rollers to reduce pulling out my thinning hair.
Oh, I've never seen magnetic rollers before. That sounds fancy. I assume there's some sort of clip that holds them in place with a magnet?
Where did you buy magnetic rollets?
Magnetic rollers are just smooth plastic. Can use clips & big Bobby pins. Can order on internet.
@@TheStyleStumbler A friend of mine is going to love this info......so I almost felt I had to comment, in shear appreciation. Thank YOU!!!
I have the same hair but it's long. I discovered the heatless curls device from another video and I've basically been using it every day since. I start with hair 90% dry then wrap in the curler (about 2 mins worth of work) and sleep in it. Boom amazing long last curls the next day... and even into the next day!
Heatless curls are THE BEST! So easy and they actually hold!
My mom and I are on the search for a good topper. We've found some options that *might* be ok - I'll report back when I know more.
Holy moly this is way too much work for hair! Mind blowing.
It's not for everyone. But 10 minutes of active styling time twice a week doesn't feel overwhelming to me, so the results feel worth it.
@ you’re welcome. Yes - we need to unite, for sure…😁
The MM mmm
I get a perm and wear a curly style for a month or so, but as it grows and drops I can do different styles. Like your content and have thought about extensions and a hair topper.
That sounds so convenient. Thanks for taking the time to say hello and share your experiences, Rosemary. 💛
Thanks for taking a moment to share your tip with us. Dry shampoo is GREAT!
Your hair looks beautiful! Thank you for these tips and pointers I am anxious to try them out!
Thank you! I hope they help! 💛
I hope that helps someone
serum lol
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your hair tips - especially because you have a different type of fine hair that also struggles with heat styling. (Your hair is lovely, by the way.)
And I think we should all start calling hair serum syrup.
I am 74 and I love your tips also I worked as a singer in Japan where I live
My hair is thin and gray , colored lately but it ruins my hair I also used curlers too since 17 years old !
Thank you ❤
Thanks for taking a moment to share your experience with us!
Curlers and music: accompanying me since I was a kid, too. ❤
It was lovely to hear from you.
@ Hi thank you for the reply and let me know if you come to Tokyo sometime 😃
I love the topper idea and would really like to get one in white hair. I am 63 and getting whiter every year.
Uniwigs did contact me after seeing this video to let me know they're working on a grey topper. Now we all have to wonder if it's just one, what shade of grey they will pick.
Another commenter mentioned Milano wigs. They look pricey, but they have customizable grey options.
Thank you so much for this video, as a fellow fine haired lady, this has some good tips and tricks
I'm so glad you found it helpful! We fine-haired people need to stick together! ♡
That sounds like it must have been a great time to spend with your grandmother.
That Kenra product sounds interesting. Do you happen to know which one it is?
And I agree - dry shampoo can work wonders.
I'm am so thankful I SRUMBLED upon this video! I can't wait to your tips!
I hope you find some helpful info in here, Erin! Thanks for taking a moment to say hello.
I hope it works for you! If you try it and feel like sharing pictures, I‘d love to see the results.
Wow! I love the topper!! I had no idea!! You look fantastic!!! Thank you for sharing your experiences!!!
Thanks for taking a moment to share your thoughts! It was lovely hearing from you. ❤
Ive been looking for a long grey topper forever! Wish someone had one! Thanks for sharing 😊
If I manage to find one, I'll let you know. (I'll probably be shouting it from the rooftops! 😂)
Thanks!
Thank you so much, Sherri! I very much appreciate the support. ❤
I’ve watched a lot of videos on this subject. I haven’t tried your system yet but you’ve given me hope. Thank you 😊
I really hope it helps! As someone who has gone through a lot of trial and error, I know how it feels.
I’m 75 Can’t believe I’m finally learning this. I’m thinking I may show it to my hairdresser. Why don’t they teach this in cosmetology schools!
It really is shocking how many hair stylists haven't learned this. It seems like it would be one of the basics. I'm lucky that I found a stylist who is constantly learning and passing on her knowledge to her clients.
Facts! Exact same problems!! I found that on my own. If I wet set, my curl will stay for DAYS. Curling irons will curl for 5 minutes. Amen
It's SO GOOD to feel validated after so many failed curling iron attempts. Some people were simply made for wet sets!
I'm 65, thin fine hair. A Salt and pepper topper would be Great. Please don't forget us seasoned women❤
Agreed! Seasoning is the spice of life! ;-)
They make gray, or salt and pepper toppers. I own 2. Go to your local wig store and ask. They can also make a gray wig into a topper.
