      I’m 49 and the top recommendations from this video have helped my hair A TON!!! I started using them a few weeks ago and I can honestly say my hair hasn’t felt this good in years! My hair was dry, frizzy, constantly breaking at the crown, and I was finding my hair everywhere so it was also thinning as a result of all the breakage. I’ve been using the garner shampoo and bond repair treatment, along with the L’Oréal bond conditioner and my hair has been so good. I’m no longer stressed about seeing only a few hairs in the shower or around the house because I think my hair is actually stronger and no longer breaking! I recently added Olaplex 3 to my routine 1x per week and it has really leveled up the strength of my hair! Thank you Abbey!

    I really loved the Garnier set, especially the conditioner, but the bottles are an issue. They are very stiff and it’s tough to squeeze out the product, to the point that it’s an accessibility issue for consumers with motor control and strength disabilities. Something I think the Garnier could address and would make the products more popular.

    I’m a chemist! It’s pronounced ‘bis’, the 2nd way you said it with the softer ‘i’ sound.
    Basically bis means that 2 substituents on a molecule are separated by another substituent in between. If a molecule is ‘Bi’ instead of ‘bis’, it means those substituents are right beside each other in the molecule. I hope this helps!!

    Bought the Dove shampoo and conditioner after watching you briefly mention it in another video. I’ve had it maybe 3-4 weeks and I’m very pleased so far! I have naturally fine, straight hair, color treated, but pretty healthy because I have short hair. I’ve noticed my hair has definitely gotten thicker, is smoother, and feels so nice during and after use! My ONLY COMPLAINT is that I don’t like the opening on the conditioner bottle - not enough of an indent to open it easily, I have to use my nail to open. Super happy to have been influenced on this set, and also selfishly pleased that I chose your number one (or at least the last top-tier mentioned) choice hehe

    Before I found your channel this summer, I’d resigned myself to the fact that my scalp would always be too oily and my ends would be dry. I’d avoided conditioning too much because I was afraid it would make my scalp worse somehow. Thank you for educating me otherwise and giving your honest opinions about products. Using the inkey list salicylic acid scalp treatment, Pantene volume and body shampoo and the L’Oreal bond repair set for a few weeks now and my scalp already feels a million times better! I don’t have damaged hair but it breaks so easily. I decided to give dove’s system a try. OMG it’s amazing. Too early to see results but as a very fine, thinned hair gal it’s amazing. If I really take time to cleanse my scalp my hair stays clean almost a week. I also am using the serum but it has zero instructions on how to use it. It’s pretty oily feel but on damp hair sinks right in. I just use it as a last step before drying. I’m so glad I found this system through you Abbey! Would love to hear your thoughts on the serum in doves 4 step system.

    EDIT: Since the weather is getting colder I have started to use the Dove Bond Strength line again. It’s perfect for colder months, absolutely perfect!
    I was a big fan of the Dove, but then tried the L’Oreal and fell in absolute love with it. This channel has transformed my life! I am such a cosmetic dummy (and very influenceable). After using my boyfriend’s curly hair super moisturizing hair system for the last 3 years (I have straight hair and an oily scalp) I was SO FRUSTRATED because my scalp was constantly itchy and flaky and became oily so fast. I’ve been on fluocinonide topical treatment which washes it away for a fee days but I’m sick of this prescription the bottle is literally so tiny and I hate going to the pharmacy. Well I found this channel and brought a clarifying shampoo out of the cupboard, started double shampooing, and my hair feels SO GOOD. I could go days without a wash (if I wanted to) and there is not a flake to be seen. I realized that the medication that I was using was basically just acting as a chemical exfoliant and by scrubbing it into the scalp I was loosening and washing away the buildup lol. I AM NOT SAYING DON’T LISTEN TO YOUR DERMATOLOGIST LOL I just was always suspicious because the treatments for my supposed condition weren’t really working.

    I’m glad you love Not Your Mothers. I’ll be trying that one. I think I may actually need bond repair after all but I’m realizing the reason some brands made my hair feel even drier is because they have coconut oil, which my hair hates. Also sodium chloride can also dry out hair and it breaks me out.

    I hate the new scent from Loreal and decided to try Gariner. While I've been loving the Garnier set, my beef is with the shampoo- I do get a good cleanse but my hair is rough to brush through afterwards because they're are no silicones in it. The conditioner is nice though. I like it enough (and the fresh citrus scent) to continue purchasing
    I love the Dove set as well but not a fan of the scent.
    Thanks for your hard work Abbz 🙏🏾

    Oh my goodness. I have tried so many masks and the Dove mask is amazing. I'm done trying new ones that's how awsome it makes my hair feel. It's less frizzy and knotty. I could actually go 4 days before washing. I wasn't a fan of the shampoo and conditioner. I highly recommend buying it. The best part is that you can probably purchase it in your supermarket and return it if your not happy with it. It's a win win. Thanks Abbey❤

    Thank you so much for the very helpful video! It's great to have hair care options on a budget. I am currently being treated for my hair loss by my doctor, and the hair that I do have is very fragile, so I try to protect it from any damage or breakage. I tried using the Dove Bond Strength, and while I really enjoyed the results, I can't bear the fragrance. I know some people love it, but I prefer to use products that are less heavily fragranced. Abbey, do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you so much for your thoroughly researched work, and the caring behind it. The love for what you do really shines through. ♥

    If you’re using to repair curl pattern: I have used the Garnier pre shampoo treatment and the Lóreal pre shampoo treatment and I FAR prefer the Lóreal for that. I’ve had really great results and I also tried the Garnier filler serum from this line and it actually made my curls straighter and I hated it for that purpose. The Garnier makes ur hair super silky though, so ppl may be looking for that. My hair is fine, 2s and a bit of 3a but easily goes super straight because I naturally have a ton of slip.

    Thank you so much for testing all these products and giving a short and sweet but thorough review on all these products!!! About a month ago, I used the hair dye I have been using for the last 5 years (Schwarzkopf Keratin Color Permanent Hair Color, 1.9 Rich Caviar) and noticed the smell was so strong and the color was more orangey and than red. And it stung my scalp. I knew something was off but didn’t wash it off. It’s been my trusted color for years and my hair always felt healthy and vibrant afterwards. I wish I went with my gut feeling and washed it off. I don’t know if my box was a dud or they reformulated but my hair now feels so dry and my usual it’s a 10 mask that leaves my hair so soft isn’t doing anything. And the color didn’t come out vibrant as usual. I am going to try Doves Bond Strength system and research more of your videos to see what I can do instead of chopping off my long hair. 😢 but thank you for making amazing videos and shorts. 😊

      I had the same question on the 2 Dove products. Out of the ones you used which ones do you recommend? I also have fine hair.

    • @hexaitine
      @hexaitine 3 місяці тому

      @@TexasLyoness I haven't tried the intensive repair one, but I know products with coconut oil and only neutral silicones can be a bit heavy for people with fine hair. Abbey also mentions in this video her hair lays a bit more flat with the dove bond one, even compared to the other brands. The intensive repair one uses amodimethicone (charged silicone) and doesn't have coconut oil from what I remember, so it might not be as heavy. They're probably both good, but if your hair is super sensitive to being weighed down, I would guess intensive repair is better.
      I like the bond repair one personally (I don't have fine hair). I wish it had amodimethicone in it, but I just use a detangling spray with it as the second ingredient instead to supplement. Like she says in the video, the scent really lingers. I don't think I've ever had a shampoo/conditioner where I could still smell it if I sniffed my hair 4-5 days later. Mellows out a bit but still there. So if the repair one is the same, make sure you're ok with the scent lol.
      Depending on how much you're willing to spend, it's not expensive to just try out both - my Target sells them in pairs for $7.50 (shampoo/conditioner). If you like the intensive repair one you could buy the bulk version instead after that. The bond mask is what makes things a bit pricey (but still the set is obviously cheaper than a lot of competitors). Maybe even some sort of combo w the intensive repair s&c + the bond repair mask once in a while would be good for you?

    I have a question about low pH shampoos and conditioners. Low pH shampoos are beneficial because they help close the hair cuticles and reduce the negative charge of the hair, making it shinier and healthier, right? I’m curious if this affects how well positively charged silicones like Amodimethicone and Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone stick to the hair? Will using a low pH shampoo make conditioners with these ingredients less effective?

    • @hexaitine
      @hexaitine 3 місяці тому +6

      The point of charged silicones is that they form a coating and only stick as much as they need to in order to protect your hair, unlike regular silicones which can be more prone to buildup. Hair that is more damaged will have more points where the F-layer is broken down, so it will have a more negative charge compared to the rest, attracting more positively charged silicones accordingly. If your cuticle is able to lay flat enough and the hair is not attractive to the charged silicone just because you used an appropriately pH-balanced shampoo, it didn't need it anyway.

      The reply below is spot on 😊

    • @miles1.0
      @miles1.0 3 місяці тому

      @@hexaitine Thanks for the reply! How about bond repairing ingredients like peptides? Would closing the cuticles with a lower pH shampoo make them less effective? I have a hard time understanding why most shampoos on the market have a too high pH because of the way it affects cuticles. So I wondered if opening the cuticles might actually be beneficial to some extent to give repairing ingredients in conditioners and treatments an easier time getting into the hair (and then the conditioner closes the cuticles again)? Or is it because higher pH shampoos are better at cleansing?

    • @hexaitine
      @hexaitine 3 місяці тому +1

      @@miles1.0 Unfortunately I don't have as strong of an understanding of peptides (only really have heard much about them being good for stimulating the follicle so pH wouldn't matter anyway), but if I had to guess I would think it probably works in that if the peptides are allegedly penetrating your hair to repair/rebuild damaged parts, then they're either small enough to get in regardless of the cuticle, or they work kinda like the charged silicones and penetrate in areas where the cuticle is damaged and too swollen to improve just from the low pH.
      I don't know how true it is but I've heard it's generally never a positive thing for your cuticle to swell/raise. (It isn't possible to prevent it 100% of the time, but I would guess doing it on purpose/exacerbating it with a shampoo probably isn't beneficial)
      Regarding your question about why some use a higher pH, yes it is my understanding that it is easier to make a strong cleanser at a higher pH (but obviously comes with potential issues like frizz and/or damage). Clarifying shampoos for example often have a slightly higher pH than a regular variant of the shampoo in the rest of a brand's lineup, whereas an effective lower pH cleansing requires a more elegant formulation.

I use them all in the same wash other than switching between the masks. Then, I'll apply the loreal 21-in-1 leave in conditioner with the ogx coconut milk serum last. I also love the liasion bond repair line (it's a little more expensive and not drug store) but it really promoted my growth!!! Your top-tier bond repair lines are all on the bathroom shelves, and they're all amazing!!! I have thin/ fine medium hair and none of these products weigh my hair down. My hair gets bleached about every 3 month and my hair dresser is so impressed with the health I was able to get my hair to after going to someone who put 40 volume bleach on my hair and fried it! I do generally like Nexxus products and I love their Color Assure line for keeping my color intact (which is especially important considering I have a lot of stubborn grey to cover; sulfates really strip my color badly), and I grew up in my mom's salon seeing Nexxus used by some of her coworkers. They are a well-priced alternative to a lot of other salon products. These days I tend to stick with drugstore products simply because high-end stuff isn't in my budget.
    That said, I've been thinking about trying their bond repair, but after watching a lot of your videos, I didn't think there was anything unique about their bond repair after reading the ingredients and seeing citric acid.
    I bought the L'Oreal bond repair line a while back based on your videos and I'm thrilled with it. Again, I grew up with my mom using Redken products at her salon booth and at home, so when i saw there was a dupe for their bond repair, I was on board. I do use the Bondbar curl cream for styling after every wash, regardless of whether I use other bond repair treatments, and I can say I've really enjoyed that product enough that I've repurchased.
    Thanks so much for your videos. You've helped save me from a lot of expensive trial and error!

    In cases like these, you have to stay focused on your own actual hairtype. Fine to medium hair reacts different than coarse hair. Thee products which are heavy on her hair can be good for coarse hair but not for her type of hair. Also it’s possible that her hair doesn’t need such heavy products which are made to restore bonds at all. Every hair is different. Just keep that in mind while watching this 😊 and by the way, products made for bond restore can cause that your hair is feeling not as lightweight, shine and smooth as therefore are other products.

    I'm so happy that L'Oreal changed the formula and the scent! I loved what it did for my hair, but had to use a clarifying shampoo as a first cleanse everytime with the old formula and just didn't love the scent. So happy I can go back to it! I do have the L'Oreal Ever Pure Clarifying line and love the smell of that. I'm currently testing out the Garnier Hair Filler Treatment and so far, so good, but I probably won't repurchase unless they change the packaging to an easier-to-squeeze bottle or tube...

    Hey Abbey! I loved this video! I need your help on this, I love the L'Oeal Bond Repair you talked about, and the reformulation makes it more enticing and makes me consider repurchasing when it runs out. However, I was already intrigued by the Garner line and you made me wanna try it! The L'Oreal has more citric acid than the Garnier. If bond repair is my main concern and following that in a close second, dryness, and shine, should I stay with L'Oreal for the higher citric acid content?

    Thank you so much for this video!! I've tried the Loreal system and it makes my hair feel amazing. Also thank you for pointing out the scents and how strong they are, since I'm sensitive to lingering scents (I still probably won't be able to resist trying the Dove line, but at least I've been informed ahead of time about the scent)

    I have coarse, bleach-damaged hair and the L'oreal conditioner has been GREAT for me. I might try some of the Garnier products next from your recommendation!

    I've only tried the L'Oreal, but its so good for me, I don't think I'll try any others. My hair is oily, and the L'Oreal doesnt help much w ith that. I wash twice a week and use dry shampoo on day 3 when necessary.
    But my hair is also long and i used to use box dyes, so the bottom half is pretty damaged... Or it used to be.
    The L'Oreal has completely fixed the frizziness i used to deal with. I don't do any blow drying or heat styling, and my hair is wavy, but it's never frizzy or dull anymore.
    I did try the trick you recommended in another video of using the bond repair treatment between the shampoo and conditioner steps. I didn't like the effect. I felt like it left my hair looking duller and less silky than the method on the bottle. So i went back to using it as pretreat.
    I spritz my hair with water till damp but not dripping, apply the pretreat, put it up in a bun for 15-30 minutes while I have breakfast and brush my teeth, then i take it down, wash and condition as normal.

    I honestly love the repair and protect Pantene over those 4 formulas you showed in this video , Repair and Protect makes my hair so smooth and like silk, I wash with the Pantene classic clean shampoo. I didn’t care for the keratin set my hair felt dry and I was underwhelmed
