He is totally right on new Olaplex products. Olaplex was bought by private equity and that’s when they expanded the product range to increase the ARPU (average revenue per person) but the founding products i.e. No. 3 is the only really innovative product made by the original CEO and team

I like Olaplex but K18 has blown my mind. Whilst it hasn't made my chemically treated hair feel like virgin hair, it feels exponentially healthier than it did before. It makes my hair wash days so easy too. Your hair does actually need to be damaged to actually get something out of K18.

I completely agree! I hate to disagree with Chris. But I used Olaplex for over a year and it’s good. But I bit the bullet and got the K18… and there is no comparison!! K18 blows Olaplex out of the water. I don’t buy Olaplex anymore. It’s truly unbelievable the results you get with K18… they didn’t like K18 bc how it felt on the hair. Tells me they used too much. Too many pumps. I have hair down to my waist and K 18 has made my hair so manageable. It use to take me up an 1hr to detangle my hair even using Olaplex. K18 and I’m like who’s hair is this. It’s insane. I use two pumps on each side of K18 for my waist long hair. Let it set for 4 mins and then I wet my hair again and use conditioner.

    • @astridh1384

I think not using conditioner afterwards is what people don’t like about K18.
Longs story short after seeing feedback from K18, it is actually safe to use conditioner or a mask after waiting the 4 minutes, and that makes a world of difference.
      K18 is superior for sure.

I have been using k18 for over a year and it did much more for my hair than olaplex 3 😅 but K18 has now said that AS LONG AS YOU WAIT THE 4 MINUTES for it to process, you CAN use a conditioner. So I use the k18 mask, wait the 4 minutes and then apply my deep conditioning hair mask over it, wait 10 minutes, and rinse. And it still works (per the company). I feel like your stylists probably didn’t like the feeling of it because they went without conditioner- god knows I CANT skip conditioning!!!! ♥️ but I wouldn’t swear it off- K18 truly has benefited my hair, and I used Olaplex 3 for 1 year prior.

K18 made a massive difference for me and I was using olaplex regularly. I think k18 steers you wrong by telling you not to use a conditioner or leave in after the treatment time is up. Our hair is damaged, you still need to add moisture to your hair. No wonder people felt like k18 wasn’t working.

    • @elin_
      @elin_ Рік тому +2

Same feelings here. I’ve tried all three products- olaplex for at a year, redken acidic bonding concentrate for 3 months and k18 for 5 months. K-18 was the second one I tried and gave me the best results. I went back to it after trying redken. It took me a while to figure out the best way to comb out my very wavy/semi curly hair without using conditioner first but I just go very slowly with a wide tooth comb. I’m so glad I stuck with it. I love it. Olaplex was just okay but I used it for so long because that was the only repair product I knew about back then. redken was okay as well, just not as good as k-18.

I only had to trim my ends after using No.3 for months. dandruff is gone too now that i have my professional moroccanoil and redken dandruff shampoo. Off topic but do not doubt this man! If you have curls I recommend adding gel and heat protectant for your hair type if you diffuse. If you still need more definition I recommend the Redken Curvaceous Ringlet layered under gel and always finish with your oil after diffusing. It’s super lightweight and they have another one called Redken Curvaceous Curl Refiner found on Ulta. I personally don’t like their Full Swirl product, its a bit dryer.

    Maybe I'm using it wrong?
I shampoo then towel dry my hair, add 4 pumps of product to my mid length hair and comb it through. Then I put on a shower cap to keep it from getting wet. After 4 minutes I take off the shower cap, put on the Redken dark purple conditioner and comb it through. Shower cap goes back on for 5 to 10 minutes depending on what else I have left to do. Rinse my hair off, out of shower, and put a t shirt on my hair to dry it and my hair turns out gorgeous - like strangers compliment me on it.

Thank you for this video. I bought the redken months ago and just used it this past weekend for the first time. My hair is extremely damaged and chunks of hair rip off each time I shower or brush my hair (Im surprised I’m not bald yet). I did wash it first but now I know I can wash it after leaving it in. Which makes it easier than sitting in the shower with it. Yes I did that. I’ve been using your recommended products from your quiz as well. Just the video I needed! 👍
I wanted to add that my hair felt SO soft after using the redken repair treatment once. I cannot believe I waited so long to use it.
Also, I have the redken white bottle conditioner from a while ago, I’ve been using the pink bottle shampoo and conditioner but my hair never felt healthy, and while traveling I took the white bottle left over conditioner and my hair did feel much softer with than one over the volume pink bottle. With damaged hair I’d say the white bottle conditioner is better even if it doesn’t actually repair. At least that’s the case for my thin damaged hair.

K18 has saved my hair from damage after it got overprocessed from multiple types of treatments (the pandemic was a problem). I had to dilute the concentrate in water in a spray bottle to get it properly distributed throughout my hair. I find that now that my hair is in pretty good shape it doesn't seem to do as much but it makes tons of difference if I use it right after getting a perm. It also doesn't work if I don't use a clarifying shampoo(neutrogena not theirs). Olaplex seems to work best when my hair is basically healthy. The redken seems to work the same as other products with that same pH range. Each of the products has a different mechanism of action (disulfide bond repair, peptide chain replacement, ionic (pH) bond strengthening) so I alternate use and get really fabulous results. But I definitely notice variability in how a product works, some weeks are great others not and I don't really know why that is.

I've used both olaplex and k18 and I like k18 better. If you put too much in your hair, it will give your hair a weird sticky-like texture. If you don't go too heavy, it's very nice. The oil is great too. I have long wavy hair and only need a couple of drops.

Yes, also a reminder to everyone out there that you can still condition your hair (after those 4 minutes and then rinse it out)! K18 4 minute leave in treatment transformed my hair after just one use! It has saved me from having to chop my hair off and regrow it. Olaplex 4 & 5 were damaging my hair and causing shedding. That stopped when I switched to Redken volume shampoo & the K18. I still use Olaplex 7 on the ends with excellent results, but the K18 in salon spray, K18 at home 4 minute leave-in are the best products I’ve ever used.

K18 works so well for me. I used olaplex no 3 from the beginning and while I saw results from it, never to the extent of k18. With olaplex my hair was still very tangly, even on regular conditioner days. In olaplex wash days, the tangles after were miserable. With k18, I can forgo conditioner(special event hair since mine is baby fine and barely holds a curl) and my hair brushes out with little to no tangling. My hair has never been as healthy as it is with k18. I notice if I use it too much, then it starts to feel not as healthy. So when I get my fresh highlights, I use it after washing for the next few washes and then go back to the every 3 washes schedule.

First time here, thanks! This video was a shock to me. I started using Olaplex & it was the best at the time. I have 3c curly hair darkest brown, & bleached to blonde. Took 2 months to get it to curl individually. & I had a more loose curl. And for me wetting, leaving it in for 30, shampoo, then mask 3-5 min (depending on mask). Absolutely need a mask with Olaplex 3.
2 years later, k18. First time after bleaching hair it looked like two months after Olaplex but better. Curled individually, smoother, still looser then original. Soft, light (needed for blonde). Shampoo & k18, & done. After 2 months k18 not needed (On off as needed.)
I’ve been using for 2 years & Curl is back to original. No special shampoo or mask needed. But still need the right shampoo, mask & hairstyling products for hair.
Once I’m off k18 I use a good shampoo & mask. For me moisturizing. Naturally curly hair is dryer. With virtue shampoo hair grows faster. Ive used about 10 different masks. Bumble&b, Moroccan oil, Olaplex8 my top. Kerastase & others not worth the price or not the best.
K18 overall cheaper, so much less work.
I used k18 before UA-cam started to review it. It was not recommended by anyone in salon.
The L’Oréal acid bond however was always recommended by salons. I may give it a try it now.
I bleach 3 times a year. So for 2 months after I bleach I use k18 & progressive stop using until my next salon date. And use only a mask after shampoo. I style with Moroccan oil. My fav.
I have used many others including Olaplex smoother & oil. Nothing special.
My 4 fav lines are k18, Virtue, Moroccan oilBumble&B. recently tried curlsmith and was pleasantly surprised. But sticking to the above for various reasons. Although it works.
Sorry for the essay. Hope this helps.
Oh, 1 last thing. When choosing products at each step, I try not to overlap. Ex. Using all repair products at every step or hair routine.
I use Virtue shampoo for my scalp/ new growth. Hair grows faster, healthier than ever for me.
I alternate with masks. My goal with masks is hydration, moisturizing.
Love Moroccan for its shine & I can choose between very curly & looser curls. However by the second day hair does become curlier naturally.
Once I stop k18 I focus on mask and alternate between hydration & repair.
But repair masks work differently without having used repair product like k18, acid bond or Olaplex first.

As a fine wavy bleach blonde level 9 (naturally level 6 and the profile pic is really old), I uses hair mask once a week and leave-in conditioner every wash day and while it helps, I still was having issues with damage. K18 made a dramatic difference in just four treatments. But, I followed the instructions and only slightly over applied (by 1/2 pump) the first time. I also didn't use conditioner the first time. It was the only time it felt weird.
There is a certain feeling that is slightly different, but it's not a big deal and is worth the results.
The cost for a 2 pump treatment is $3, and I have medium density just passed my shoulders hair. Seems less expensive than 3-6 treatments for $30. And K18 is needed for less often.
I mean, even Jack Martin uses it, and hair is really taking a beating in his gray hair transformations.
I guess you finally gave a review, and you are entitled to your opinion...
but a lot of us will be sticking to the product that does literally work wonders.

After shampooing your hair and drying with a towel, you then apply K18, you leave it on for 4 minutes as per advised, then you can add conditioner and leave it for 5-10 minutes and rinse! K18 is the best for me. I saw amazing results, and have used all three. But it does have extremely specific directions - it’s not a “once a week two month” system. You have to towel dry, scrunch up from the ends, let sit for 4 minutes, don’t rinse. You use it for the first 4-6 washes, and then only as maintenance. The company has come out and said that you can use conditioner after those 4 minutes, which is where I started to see bigger results, as my hair needed that extra moisture. That said, I do also use the Redken ABC once a week now I am in the maintenance phase with K18. The results have been incredible.

Admittedly, I used a box bleach and it worked fairly well - 2 boxes and I could have used a 3rd. Anyway, my hair felt a little dry so I was looking at options...wanted something before doing toner.
I ran across the Redken and it looked good, but then I read that L'Oreal is the cheap version and they also have this product but at a much, much lower price. I have low-porosity hair that's pretty particular about what I put on it and again, it was dry and not that damaged. I used the L'Oreal product and my hair looks pretty terrific.
Just thought I'd throw this out there for those who can't afford the higher prices of the Olaplex and Redken, at least to see if it works without a big outlay.

Thank you so much for explaining!
I had grown my hair to waist length (a bucket list thing because my mom wouldn't ever let me grow my hair) and eventually cut it off because I didn't know what to do with it. I was about 50% grey then and with menopause, my hair went wavy. Always had dense, baby fine and board straight hair with an oily scalp. When I cut it, it was so dry and damaged I couldn't manage it. Waves only about half way up. The rest sat like a wet rat as always.
5 years later, I'm tired of cutting my own hair (I can because pixies are easy) and tired of paying a pink tax, so I'm growing my hair again.
It's wavier than it was before! Also, about 70% silver (which I absolutely love), but I'm concerned about being able to take care of it so that it doesn't get damaged.
On the hunt for my forever shampoo and have started taking your advice on how to wash and I'm finding I don't have to wash it every day. Still can't get 3 days, but I can get a solid 2.
Are the products you show here good for all hair types? Even very fine but dense silver hair? Even the lightest conditioner I can find is too heavy. Bobby pins and clips won't stay put because my hair is so fine (or at least that's how it went last time). I don't use any heat or any product in my hair.
My hair now has a ton of body. It's growing "big" before it goes long. I'm 56 years old and have NEVER had hair like I'm growing now
    HELP?
    I'll keep browsing your videos.

I like the K18 because its so simple to use. No waiting in the shower for 10 mins or having to get back in etc. I just cant make Olaplex easy to use!
I may try the Redken next.

I lightly shampoo my hair over the tub (without getting in) first and then apply Olaplex while watching TV etc. Then just go shower and rise and wash as normal.

I made the mistake of buying the entire K18 line including the oil and both shampoos thinking it all necessary to repair my very damaged hair (that is now bleached and dyed bright blue) and after a month my hair was in way worse shape than before I started using it. Breaking at the ends horribly. I’m so glad I got it on Amazon and was able to send it back. I’m also so glad I found your channel and I took your hair quiz, I have coarse hair so I used your links and bought the products I needed from Amazon and I already got the leave-in conditioner in the mail and am waiting on the rest! (I also agree hair masks are totally worth it and far superior to traditional conditioner). Thank you for all your expertise and honesty! I can’t wait to begin a new vastly improved routine!

Okay hear me out! I hate to disagree with Chris bc he is my hair god. But K18 blows Olaplex out the water. After using Olaplex for a yr and finally saving the money for the $80 K18, I will never buy Olaplex again. I have waist long hair. I use 3-4 pumps! No more than that. Then after the 4 mins I wet my hair again and use my conditioner. And it’s no comparison. While using Olaplex it would take me over an hour to detangle my hair on wash day. With K 18… maybe 10 minutes. I know Chris is a hair god but I’m thinking the people didn’t like the way their hair felt with K18 because too many pumps of K18 and then didn’t follow with conditioner after 4 mins. I really wanted to hate K18 bc it’s so expensive. But K 18 is the holy grail and in between that Redken is what I do when I take a break from K18 for a few washes. Y’all try K18 for yourself and no more than 4 pumps and conditioner after ❤

i have really long thick hair and also bleached, and i noticed that olaplex wasn’t doing much. i’ve been looking at K18 for a while now, even the instructions on the product say to not follow with a conditioner, do you know why? does the hair still get repaired if i apply the conditioner?

Hi, you shouldn’t rinse K18 out. Wash with only shampoo, then apply K18 on damp hair and leave for 4 min before continuing with styling. If your hair feels dry apply leave in conditioner 🤍

I had my long hair damaged breakage after a horrible highlights. It was a year of sadness. I used Olaplex at salon and the whole line for a year . Then k18 I finally got a hair cut. My hair grew so fast healthy n beautiful. So I have great gratitude to both .

I bought K18 and Olaplex 3 along with redken conditioner. Never used any before. I tried the k18 first and noticed minimal improvement on my very damaged hair. Once k18 was gone, I tried Olaplex 3. Noticeably
    healthier, softer, stronger. Redken
conditioner was used with both k18 and Olaplex 3. Olaplex was best for me.

With your explanations I achieved perfect results. Then overdid with sun and pool and here again to choose a product to support hair again.

Just my 2 cents: I’ve used both olaplex and k18…. Started with k18 because of the hype, and it felt…. Good. Not amazing, but good. I even used conditioner afterwards the way some UA-camrs have suggested to combat the dry crunchy feeling. After a while I switched to the no. 3 and while the first wash result wasn’t as life changing, over time it’s definitely made a much more noticeable difference to the shine and manageability of my hair! My hair is pretty thick, so maybe it didn’t need as much protein and that’s why k18 didn’t do as much, but I think it really does depend on your hair! Can’t get Redken easily where I am so I’ll stick to Olaplex i think!

I agree. I’m going gray naturally, use to have just a bit of a wave and now that it’s gray the middle part of my hair in the back is super curly but my top and sides are flat. Struggling with trying to get use to curly , frizzy , dry hair. Mine is always up except one day a week I straighten it. If it’s humid , it frizzes.

@@esthertjones Depending where you buy the Redken, yes, at least 12€ less. I say this because Sephora in my country sells the Redken for 33🙄 while salons or other professional retailers sell it for 25ish. The L'Oréal is around 10/12€

I'm using the L'Oreal version; being a chemist I always read allllllllll the fine print and realized exactly what you are saying. I'm in Sweden so I'm having the EU bottle, if that helps.
Anyway, I bought the conditioner, using it once a week but have not noticed any major benefits yet - it has been six weeks so far. After watching this video, I'm thinking it might be due to me rinsing it off too soon maybe? I will be switching treatment days going forward, so I can use it when in the sauna after swimming, that will be rad!
Do you want me to give an update after another six weeks, reply here so I know. :-)
