  • Ever wonder how to work the Speed Bag? Let Everlast Nutrition fitness expert Mike Gales walk you through the basic concepts that you need to know.
    Hey there! In this video, we're going to show you how to use the speedbag. The speedbag is a classic boxing training tool that helps improve your hand-eye coordination, speed, and timing. It's a lot of fun to use, and it's a great way to burn some calories too!
    Here's what you'll need:
    A speedbag platform
    A speedbag
    Hand wraps and gloves (optional, but recommended for safety)
    Now, let's get started!
    Begin by standing in front of the speedbag platform with your feet shoulder-width apart and your weight evenly distributed.
    Hold your fists up in front of your face with your elbows bent.
    Start hitting the speedbag.
    As you hit the speedbag, focus on keeping your hands close to your face and your eyes on the bag.
    Keep the rhythm going by bouncing on the balls of your feet and shifting your weight from side to side.
    Remember to breathe and keep your movements smooth and fluid.
    With practice, you'll be able to control the speedbag and incorporate it into your boxing workouts. It's a great way to improve your hand speed and coordination, so give it a try!

    You're the only guy who actually showed which part of the hand to use to hit the bag.

    I just started (about a month) using the speed bag as well and it's really super fun. My bag is already becoming not challenging though because I can't get the bag to come back as fast as I can throw unless I'm really hammering it, so I am thinking about getting a smaller bag. I did find that I can make it more challenging by using (doing) footwork. Do you have a video for teaching how feet could be moving? It really intensifies the workout I'm finding. The closest I found so far was your shadowboxing/speedbag/heavybag/rope workout.
    Overall, thanks for the videos Mike! The speed bag, double end bag, and heavy bag workouts have been the most fun workouts I've ever done. So far I find myself eager to get to it.
    --edit--
    Nevermind, the second I subscribed and saw the workout playlist, I found it. Thanks!

      Thanks for watching the videos and you are definitely right, the size of the bag makes a big difference as far as the speed is concerned. I used a larger bag in these videos that is a little slow, but i also prefer the smaller speed bags as they do travel much faster and increase the intensity of your workout :)

    Why would you hit the speed bag with the bottom part of your hands when you are supposed punch with your fist?

    great video, question what size of speed bag is the best for beginner? n whats the different, thxs

    • @fightyourwayfit
      @fightyourwayfit  7 років тому +3

      The difference is that the larger bags are easier to hit and travel at a slower speed while the smaller bags are a smaller target, travel faster and are easier to miss.
      Something like this 20 cm bag is perfect for a beginner...and it's inexpensive

    Hi Mike, I just got my speed bag set up and the hinge that came with the setup has some up and down slop in it. Do you have a hinge you recommend? I get the rhythm going and then make a bad strike and it really almost stops the bag and causes a re-set.....are other hinges different? Thanks and great video again!

    • @fightyourwayfit
      @fightyourwayfit  6 років тому

      Is this the hinge that came with your bag;

      Mike, that is the one.

    • @fightyourwayfit
      @fightyourwayfit  6 років тому

      That style of hinge is usually pretty good, it could be a defect though. The swivel should have the speed bag easily flowing 360' around the platform.
      I've used this one below as well, I didn't really like the bag but the swivel always worked well;

    Thanks! Great video, but why don't you use your knuckles?

    • @fightyourwayfit
      @fightyourwayfit  7 років тому +3

      Great question, you could but you will find that the flat surface of the heel of your hand will make the speed bag much easier to control

    • @DaveKanyan
      @DaveKanyan 6 років тому +1

      so it's not wrong to use your knuckles? It's just easier to control with the flat surface of the heel of the hand. Once you have the ability to do this like a pro you can switch to knuckles and back to the flat surface of your heal without any repercussions. correct?

  • @verdugosb

    On how average how long would it take someone to use the speed bag properly

      thanks for commenting;
      I would say that it may take you a week to really get the hang of it. The trick is to just keep practicing and before you know it you will be doing it like a pro. It's frustrating at first, but I promise that by using the tips in this video it will get easier.

    Is it anything better to do one bounce, rather than three?

    • @fightyourwayfit
      @fightyourwayfit  7 років тому +5

      cockboy12 the thing is that you want the speed bag to bounce off of the back platform so that you can see something coming towards your eyes ... that will help your brain get use to visualizing incoming punches :)

      I naturally have terrible rhythm. I’ve never been able to dance. But within a few sessions you’ll have the speedbag timing down 😎😎😎

    What should the height of the bag be?

    • @fightyourwayfit
      @fightyourwayfit  4 роки тому

      Having the height of the bag at or slightly higher than your face is ideal. Thanks for watching 🙂🙂🙂

  • @Tobinounet
    @Tobinounet 6 років тому +1

    How should the speedbag be placed? Because the one in the gym I go to is like at the level of my eyebrow and it makes me work my shoulder a lot, but I'm not sure if it's right?
    If it's not anyway, I can't change it and will have to do without it...
    PS : Why is the name on the video in french in the tab name? Do you speak french too since you are canadian? If so, feel free to answer in french if you want to.

    • @fightyourwayfit
      @fightyourwayfit  6 років тому +1

      The center of the speed bag should be at about the height of your nose, it sounds like your bag may be just a little high...but it will definitely help get your shoulders in shape :)
      The reason for the French tab name is because youtube translates the subtitles into different languages. ..you can press the little cc button on the videos.
      Et oui je parle francais, je suis de Montreal...en fait ma femme est francaise :)

    • @Tobinounet
      @Tobinounet 6 років тому +1

      Yeah, that's what I thought about the shoulder, they will burn really quickly and will be awesome !
      I didn't know about that. It seems that it doesn't happen with everything, that's why I didn't know.
      Trop bien! Je savais pas. Désormais je le sais !
