I learned that if you put a paper towel in the bag of spinach, lettuce, cilantro, kale, collards, etc and then squeeze the air out and roll it and seal it well, it will last a whole lot longer than if you don't. Sometimes I even change the paper towel after a couple of days. It absorbs the moisture in the bag and the moisture is what makes it start to go bad.

Mind you, I'm in Tucson, but I'm comparing prices in the video with my local Walmart. Some of them are as much as 50 cents more, Some were actually cheaper, but over all I think it balanced out to be about the same. His prices were for California though. I can only imagine how much they've skyrocketed there. I think for some people this would still be pretty cheap.

We cook the chicken with onions, carrots salt and some garlic for 1 hour, then put it out, dress it with pepper, salt and oil and roast it in the oven for 15 min. That way we have a juicy roasted chicken plus a soup, we add some soup noodles, kids love that.

I am 47 years and went from 275 lbs to 203 lbs in about 5 months, WITHOUT ANY EXERCISE, using only the content from his channel. Side note: I am incorporating exercise into my lifestyle because I think it’s an important component to maintaining good health. I can’t believe he continues to put this content out for free. DeLauer obviously believes in what he is doing, has lived it himself, and cares about humanity. Keep up the great work!

I’m watching this for the second time, a year apart. Now that food is outrageously priced, I’m having to switch more and more to these money saving ideas. I’ve always spent a lot on food (clean organic, grass fed etc). I just can’t afford to eat how I want anymore. I think I’m going to try some of Thomas’ food selections and just learn to live with it for now.
Sadly, every time I go shopping things are worse than the last, even at Walmart. I hope the increases level off soon. My kids are starting to understand that we don’t waste any food and I think they are learning an important lesson.

Don't let that sway you. Since they were bought by Amazon, if you shop smartly, you can find amazing deals. Like 3-4 times a year they have 25% off all vitamins and supplements. They have an amazing Whole Foods Super Omega fish oil in Triglyceride-form. Not on sale it's an insane deal. 25% off nothing comes close. Their meats are also very fairly priced for the quality. If you get the app, you get sales plus another 10% off if you are prime member. I feel like I am a shill for Whole Foods but I get some of my best deals there! Let me know if you want any more.

Nuts! Get out of the snack aisle and go over to the baking aisle. It's always cheaper always. And they usually don't have all of the added nasty oils and chemicals on them. You can toast them in a pan and add whatever spice or flavoring you want to it. It's much healthier and always cheaper. Take the money you saved and buy some dark chocolate. Just a few nuts with some melted chocolate on them is a great treat. You just have to be mindful of portion control.

Thomas you probably don’t realize just how much difference your small “off the cuff” comments can make in someone’s life. I think it was when you were shopping frozen veggies you shared the tip of preserving a bag of salad mix or spinach to make it last. That one tip is going to save me so much money. I’m an older woman and it has never even occurred to me to do that. That one tip “for me” was the most important take away of the entire video although I will probably reflect back on the rest the next time I’m in Walmart. I rinse the whole bag of spinach in a salad spinner, spinning until as dry as I can get it. Then pick through the spinach. Any bad leaves, obviously, throw out. Separate out any okay but bruised or torn leaves and set aside and put the rest - the good leaves - into a big resealable bag with a paper towel and squeeze the air out without damaging the spinach. Those bruised leaves should go into a bag or plastic container and be used first. Sorting through and properly storing the greens will keep them good for about 3 weeks at least and will help you use the whole big bag!

As a now personal trainer, I will always guide my clients in the right direction, even when it comes to food, because how are you supposed to help people if they aren’t already trained in the label-reading process? I was always told this when learning about and coming into the health and fitness industries, and I CANNOT STAND it, because guess what it does? It makes those people still ask the extra question of “what brands are better than others” or something along those lines. Just take the time to guide people, and everything else will be much, much easier. Also, a funny thing happens when you show your clients that you’re willing to go the extra mile, you end up with more clients 🤯. Many trainers just don’t grasp this concept

Commercial eggs look like the hens were sick and malnourished. Meal prep, and cook things and freeze in individual servings so you have variety and you can thaw things quickly. Make soups with less liquid so they take less space in the freezer, and add liquid when you reheat. I freeze servings of soup and chili in quart-size ziplock zipper freezer bags. Once frozen, I can lay them flat or stand them up like books. Get a small tub that fits in your freezer. Label the bags first, then fill them and clean up any drips. Lay them flat in the tub with paper towels in between to prevent sticking together. After they’re frozen, take them out and put them wherever they fit best. Set them in a container in the refrigerator to thaw, in case they leak.
I cook meats and chicken, and freeze individual servings in ziplock bags. Roast vegetables, sauté kale with garlic, and freeze in containers. I put about three servings in a small container.
By doing this, you can have excellent nutrition and variety.
I’m surprised and disappointed foster mothers did not teach you about shopping and cooking. But regular parents don’t seem to do so these days, either.

I would have skipped cottage cheese and just bought a half gallon of some A2 milk, made some yogurt from half of it with an added splash of that heavy cream you just picked up, and then use the other half to make a little fresh cheese and then ricotta. All you need is salt and vinegar or lemon juice and a little bit of time. But so many of us have nothing but time on our hands right now. And it's a great time to learn a basic skill like that, one that makes your food healthier and gives you more control of what you put into your body.

That fresh cheese or farmer's cheese as it's often called, is a healthy delicious replacement for cottage cheese and you can culture the milk a little bit overnight with some of that sour cream before you make it to get rid of the rest of those sugars. When you're done making this cheese just give it a little salt and whatever herb you like, and a splash of that heavy cream. There you have the best cottage cheese you've ever had in your life and by far the healthiest.

Clean doesn't really matter, lost 200lbs doing both ways, felt the best I ever did in my life. Clean or dirty felt exactly the same, maintained the same health. Buying for a month is easy it's eating for a month that's hard. Some days you're hungrier then others, the moment you break discipline your budget changes.

Again, very impressed by what you put into your shopping videos.
Clean Kosher low carb is so very important to me for health reasons and your Kosher shopping and ideas are epic even though it's unplanned.
I think you are a bit more disciplined than my 2 family household, in the way of portion control but today is a shopping day for us. And for the first time on a serious budget in my long life, I will stick as closely as possible to your suggestions here.
Prices have jumped quite a bit in the year since your video, and pay for the self employed has too unfortunately, so, I plan on weighing portions as you suggest to help with stretching meals further.
Thank you for all of your effort put towards every one of your video's!

I think it was very realistic. If he had literally only had the $100, he would have ditched the nuts and some cream and maybe the nut butter. And he might have rethought the beef and switched it out for the other which was a bit less but would add up with that many pkgs. And switch the good eggs for another pkg of the okay ones. But really? It’s an almost impossible task to only spend $100 per month.
