Mmm, did you not listen to the most important part though with not taking the easy way all the time? Not saying diet isn't very important but focusing just on it without being more active just results in the same problems, or worse. I walked 20k steps first time all year in the sun and felt far better than laying off Pizza and McDonalds and adding back in whole foods for a month + now.

Absolutely that and skip the restaurant food since it is anyones guess what they put in it. The problem with that however when when traveling. A carer as a pilot always on the "road", getting decent food became more and more difficult when traveling. Most hotel breakfasts consisted of easy to make/serve carbs and relied less on cooked items such as eggs bacon etc. Lunch was the same, huge bread with a bit of meat and cheese for a "sandwich". Starbucks liquid candy for a snack and dinner, some protein with huge globs of mashed potatoes. About a decade ago, I just had to quit as it was frustrating to find decent food.My problem was just a small portion of what our society faces.
I am flattered, so I must be beyond the top 2% or even 1%. I am 66 and have not had even a sniffle in over 22 Years. I take the stairs and then sprint to the top multiple times. No processed foods. No Meds ever. Cold plunge in 38 degrees. I am healthier now than I was in my 20's.
Same. Except I don't do steps anymore going down. I like hiking trails better. I use contrast(hot cold hot cold) showers every day rather than cold plunge. One thing I think they forgot to talk about to being truly healthy is not just physical challenges, but mental challenges, useful skill challenges, emotional challenges--delve into what are your preconceived operating thought patterns and take them apart to understand if they really hold up to the scrutiny, volunteer to help others, gratitude. etc
We are the only animal that can carry weight for distance...? I think a lot of horses are going to be saying Nay to that.

When I was in my 20s, I was attacked in an empty parking lot. I don't like parking very far away for that reason. It wouldn't surprise me if other women feel similar. Has nothing to do with exercise, I'm an athlete.
@@mockingbirdnightingale7169 By that logic you could be attacked just about anywhere when you're outside, but even though I don't have any such trauma, a parking isn't a particularly interesting area to have a walk in, so if you do plenty of movement anyway, it probably doesn't matter all that much. I also don't park "far away", but I also definitely don't like cramming my car in the busy area in the front parts. It's not just fitness - the parking process itself then isn't that convenient and the risk someone will damage your car is greater.

I live on the 3rd floor and in a month I use the stairs may twice a month when I buy pack of water. Even with my weekly shopping I still use the stairs carrying heavy bags. It’s a lifestyle that brings long term results

I feel so blessed to be here, but I don't want to get used to the abundance here that I forget what being "thrifty" or mindful about what I have, really means. The mindfulness of 'finding our 'point A' is a really crucial starting point we're largely oblivious to. The conversation in the latter part of this interview is one of the most interesting, yet! Interesting, too, Michael's take on 'the relationship with hunger', as opposed to the relationship with food! Who really remembers or knows hunger these days, especially unintentional or unplanned hunger.also, the nition of choosing discomforts beyond your normal accepted or usual domains. Fascinated also Thomas's talk on maximising rather than optimising, & optimisation leading to fragility & compromise elsewhere. Perhaps there is a place of adaptive capacity, & keeping in mind, what are our over arching values & reasons for doing what we do.. are our habits serving our values, or have we become slaves to our habits, or let our habits become obsessions to a point where they become maladaptive🤔
Many ppl from rural areas of SEAsian countries ( where it's hot and humid)where I come from , not only don't appreciate air conditioning, they think it's bad for you.

Yeah, anyone in SE Asia has never had a good night's sleep in their lives if we believe the concept one needs for a room to be 68°F at night if they never had an AC. Many of the common lowland areas of SE Asia have never seen that temperature, outside, in a thousand years or more. My room, growing up years in the States saw nightime interior temperatures of 80-90° during heat waves and near freezing at night during subzero (F) coldwaves. I dealt with the cold better.
A/C is bad for us Americans.. it keeps us fat.. if you have excess weight, you will sweat when outside in a hot day. If a person was to just let them self sweat everyday and ate healthy, eventually they will no longer be able to sweat. I stopped sweating when I lost all my excess weight on the raw vegan diet. There were times when I was yo-yo-ing trying to stay 100% raw and I noticed cheese would cause me to sweat out my arm pits almost instantly.. it was crazy.. literally only took minutes after eating that I’d start sweating. I don’t know if all dairy can cause that, but cheese seemed to on more than one occasion. I also thought meat was guilty of causing it but a lot of times I was eating meat & cheese when backsliding so it’s hard to know for sure is they’re partners in crime 🤔
@@NewKreature517 I grew up in a home that had little in the way of insulation and ventilation, so basically I grew up in not much more than "outdoor temperature conditions" either battling to stay warm or cooler year around, and believe me, AC at night that you keep fumigated from fungus is a nice thing to have if you want to sleep well. I lived in a rural setting near a large wilderness area and farms around. The heat waves would leave your home way too warm overnight, the spring pollen would get you that season. Winter... was winter. The decent season was fall and to leave a window open was hit and miss as it could be stormy, trending colder, or just stronger winds that blew ahead of changing weather systems a few days before they came. Very hit and miss and is all still the same. Interior climate control was the best thing since sliced bread (which you shouldn't be eating for certain 😆) Also, 40 years ago soy was in many things I ate and we ate way too many carbs and for me I was not morbidly obese, but even being pretty active, I wasn't thin either as a teen.
Can't find the bit again, something was mentioned about not wanting to eat when sick? The lack of chapters is hurting this one. Pretty sure I heard you guys talk about that. That's your body's natural response when it needs to heal. It doesn't need to be dealing with healing and digestion on top of that, plus it's part of what healing is: autophagy. When someone says "you NEED" to eat something!" No, no you do not.

Most Americans are very ingrained in the car nation lifestyle, you almost have to be since most places are not bicycle/public transport friendly. With the price for purchasing cars going sky high, eventually out of the reach of many Americans. I think we need to get our cities set up for getting to our jobs, getting to the grocery store….on and on, eventually we’re gonna need this. Europe has it right, people ride bikes to work, take their kids to school in a cargo bike, get their groceries, streets/ bike roads are set up pretty close to car roadways. We’d be healthier if we weren’t handcuffed to cars. Lol
That may work in an urban environment; not so much in a suburban setting, and not at all in Texas….
Blame your city planners for making the car culture. You need a car just to get out of your housing division let alone go anywhere. Sure you can try a bike, people that drive dual cabs and suvs will try and kill you for it.
I'm American but I live in Europe and I don't drive. It honestly surprises me how much people do rely on cars here. My daily commute takes me 1 hour 50 minutes each way on foot, whether to work or to the gym. I do this walk anywhere from 3 to 7 times/week (I carpool with my husband the rest of the time). I live on an island and I have a very good sense of what happens here. I'm the ONLY person on the whole island who does this. We have 4 or 5 cyclists who cover similar distance. No one else walks, and the drivers all know me. It's not set up for walkers. I have to walk on the road itself, I stay over to the side. Considering that gasoline is around $11/gallon here, it surprises me that no one else walks. I assume it's because of the time commitment. My husband can drive the same distance I walk, in 15 minutes. I do walk to/from the supermarket and carry my groceries on my shoulder, it's a 1 km walk each way. To me that is very minimal and everyone should do that. I've never seen a resident do it. I see tourists do it, but that's it.
If you consider that basically EVERY shop here offers free delivery, it's amazing to me that more people don't walk everywhere.
All the negative commenters probably love their comforts (because they pay big bucks for them) and are pissed they didn't get that close parking spot. As a thriving minimalist, I love this guys simple message. It's too simple for most people. "How dare you tell me to eat bland food and give up AC" They'd rather spend thousands on biohacks and stick to their fad diet, all to get the results of that Amazon tribe living the simple poor life. There's a powerful, first principle message here that a lot of smart people miss in the nutrition realm. They can't feel smart if their not plowing through countless mechanisms and details when the answer is so basic. Get outside, stay moving, eat simple whole foods, fast occasionally.

There are 2 more things completely forgotten here,
- 1st Tsimane have much diverse microbes in their guts
- 2nd, Tsimane have lots of worm parasites, which btw stimulate own body to produce more T regulatory cells and not to attack it's own tissues.
I believe this might be the key to their brain and heart health. Diet itself might be less important.

Sounds like your mindset toward exercise may be...'more is better'😃
...and no, as you are finding out - more is not better.
For someone who is starting an exercise regimen- easing into a simple protocol, then gradually increasing the protocol is KEY.
What is of utmost importance is - instead of 'alot' - consistency over time will get you there.
Start out low & slow at a low-stress pace - you do need the protocol to be a challenge but that challenge is at a low bar, to start, (without going all gung-ho and killing yourself in the beginning...and your post sounds like that may be what is happening. You are diving in with alot of enthusiasm- your body is reacting adversely, and then you stop.
The key is to consistently do what you are capable of doing - a small challenge -
Your body will adapt. This is what exercise is all about. You consistently challenge your body. Your body adapts and your protocol becomes very easy. (You are also, during this period, building up the consistent habit of exercising. )
Your body adapts - your protocol becomes essy-peasy. This is when you up the challenge. Increase your protocol to make it more challenging, so that yoyr body will continue to adapt 😃
Rinse and repeat!

Thank you Thomas. I really enjoyed this. A lot to think about. I eat unprocessed but always thinking about the krebs cycle. Am happy to ditch the butter and I am the 20% salt sensitive. I like the simplicity of this diet its like low fat paleo. Wild animals are low in fat naturally.
First of all, It’s pretty amazing that we even need to have this type of discussion. We are so stuck in our heads!
Second, we like every other species is inherently perfectly symbiotic in their natural habitat eating their optimal natural diet.
Where does a lion live and what does it eat?
Hiw about a blue whale or a giraffe or a Gorilla or a Human?
We are just another species like the other 25 million or so we know about. We all have the same natural habitat and natural optimal diet.
Now, to be good for a species is very well stated by long term Raw Vegan of roughly 35 years, living in the tropics, getting 99% of his calories from Whole fruit and soft greens like lettuce
He hasn’t been sick a day in all that time, doesn’t take supplements or drugs of any kind, no “superfoods” no herbs, no remedies, has no need to use soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, cologne, or any other hygeine chemical, because he is body is clean and balanced.
He works with people every day from 5am to 10 or 11 at night everyday helping people fast at his Fasting Center in Costa Rica, the worlds largest water only fasting center in the world and has helped over 10,000 people fast an average of 26 days.
The man is Loren Lockman and the place is Tanglewood Wellness Center.

How about some people that are over work? How can we make sure we’re healthy? My job requires walking and standing 8 hrs/day.
I always take the stairs, it's actually faster than the elevator. And I always park my car at the edge of the parking lot only because it's faster getting out of the parking lot especially when shopping at my Wal-Mart. And I don't eat processed food including hotdogs, sausage, cheese and any fat including butter. All fats are processed. I wear a weighted vest on my treadmill on an incline.
I'm getting a bit tired of hearing people say we eat breakfast because we're "programed to" or because "we're bored". I'm more hungry when I wake up than any other time of day, and I function significantly better after a decent breakfast with some caffeine. On the flip side, I have very small dinners, and sometimes skip them entirely; that's easy.
As someone who usually sticks to a 16:8 intermittent fasting routine, I find it significantly easier for the food-cutoff point to be around the middle of my day, rather than deprive myself after waking up.
Yes.....a good breakfast is called.....front loading! You are doing it right.😊
I agree, it's obnoxious when people act like we're all the same. Whether or not I'm motivated by food early in the day depends on the day and often on what I did the day before. Since I started running, I find my appetite is responding very heavily to my running the day before. If I have a long run yesterday I'm more likely to eat breakfast today. I don't fast but my rule is I don't eat my first meal until I'm actually hungry. Some days that's 6am, some days that's 3pm.
Mediterranean study recently showed people who eat their biggest meal first are the healthiest people on the planet. Not sure what this idiot is even talking about. Check out Dr Rhonda Patrick for someone who isn't full of shit and trying to sell you courses.

The appreciation of hot water brings to mind Tom’s Hanks character in Castaway where after rescue and alone at the facility where there was a celebration of his return begins flicking the lighter over and over and I imagine he’s recalling his ordeal of trying to start a fire on the island.

@@davidneal6920About 7000 sq. ft. of it is on 8% slope I manage to my lunges in on that part of it.
I've always pushed mowed my yard, takes about an hour no breaks. I do it after work as a cool down. :) I push heavy things for a few hours at a time at work instead and get paid for it. My neighbour who is very gigantic, you can set up the rear end as a picnic table, she has always ride mow her yard and can only do it for about 10 minutes at a time before needing a break. That really puts things into perspective.

Its funny but sad, i park all the way out at the end of the parking lot and walk and my brother an sister will fight to park as close to the doors as they can so they dont have to walk. And you can see the difference in my health compared to theirs.

Feeling good that I’m part of the 2%
1. Live in our natural habitat (tropical forests of the world)and gather our own natural species specific food which for us is whole, organic, raw, fragrant, vibrant, juicy fruits and various soft, tender, good tasting raw leaves like lettuce.
2. Stay active outside as much as you want doing whatever you want in a productive or fun way without harming anybody or anything.
3.last but not least surround yourself with people that you love and enjoy and life!
I believe living this way is not only the best way to live, but it’s the way we originally lived in the beginning in our prime, living the longest with the least disease with very little effort.

We are not Carnivores, however we are probably to most able to adapt to the most diverse climates of the world and can get nutrition from a very wide source of foods, including animals.
But anything other than Whole, raw, fresh fruit and tender greens, is a compromise.
We don’t have to be in survival mode living in a modern society with grocery stores, farmers markets or the means to move to the tropics and grow and eat the food right off the trees.

Most humans should be able to beat elevators on the stairs. Waiting for the bloody elevators to sink with your timing is more painful then taking any amount of stairs
I use an escalator because they are always faster, they're centrally located, they don't make you sweat, nor is someone's butt in my face(possible upside, okay...). I park away from others because I want to keep my vehicle in the best condition possible. If you have to do such things for health, you aren't training...

When I was in Basic Training in the military, our billets didn’t have air conditioning. There were others in billets that had air conditioning. They were always getting sick and we didn’t. So there probably is some truth to having modern conveniences ie. air conditioning might be bad for our health.

How difficult is it to understand that chemicular ingredients in excess of four syllables are problematic? EG, my Japanese mother used Ajinomoto for decades... monosodium glutamate's Japanese brand name. They call it Ajinomoto like Kleenex is a tissue or Bandaid is a bandage. It's ubiquitous. Knowing this chemical's effects on synapses and behaviors, I consider it as a contributory factor in her having developed Alzheimer's. Other than that added crap, her cooking was always whole foods. Her body survived 88 years, her mind only lasted 76 years. Take care, Internet people 😘
